Orphion for iPad

"The concept of the Orphion results from my master thesis at UdK Berlin supervised by Robert Henke (aka monolake). The topic was to develop an interface for multitouchscreens which allows a maximum of expression."

"Orphion is a musical instrument with a unique sound between string instrument and percussion. Everyone can play expressive, wonderful sounds and easy or virtuosic melodies on it just by moving fingers on virtual pads.

What can I do with it?

• Express the sounds you feel
• Crazy drumming
• Dream and relax
• Create soundscapes and melodies without musical knowledge

Features:

• Different articulations from soft to plucked to hardly slapped
• Natural interaction
• Extend your ways of expression as a percussionist, guitarist, pianist or other musician
• 9 transposable pad-layouts with different tonalities from easy to complex (Five, Bluesscale, Pentawheel, Piano, Guitar Strings, 5ths circle, 3rd Matrix, Bassdrums, Waterdrops)
• 8 individual voices for 8 fingers (4 on iPad 1)

And some comments via Yves Yusson the man himself:

"Thanks guys !

It's been a real pleasure designing this little beast. I hope it will meet its public."

"The enveloppes are analog (Yusynth ADSR based with some improvements) the LFO was analog in the first version but because it was necessary to synchronise it with the arpeggiator, the LFO now is digital. The vibrato is fll analo too."

"First, I want to thank you all for your enthusiasm about the MiniBrute.

Concerning the digital section yes it will be updatable, this is one of the reason why there is a USB plug in it. Note that the USB is also used to set some parameters of the keyboard section such as Velocity enable or disable and choosing the Velocity Curve, same for the Aftertouch. The default setting is Velocity disabled and Aftertouch active. Normally (I don't master the digital section of this machine) the MiniBrute can handle the Polychain mode.

Note that the Arpeggiator can also be used as a basic sequencer. In the Hold mode, you press and hold the first key of the sequence, then you just enter the other notes by pressing the corresponding keys while still holding the first note of the sequence, during this process you can change the octave range of the keyboard between entering the notes therefore you are not limited to two octaves for the sequence. You can sequence a maximum of 12 notes. Unfortunatly once playing the sequence it cannot be transposed by the keyboard because pressing a new key resets the sequence."

Sweetwater at Winter NAMM 2012 - Moog Minitaur Demo

YouTube Uploaded by SweetwaterSound on Jan 21, 2012

"Steve Dunnington, Product Designer Specialist from Moog Music introduces the Moog Minitaur at NAMM 2012, and we can't believe the bass this thing can crank out! The Minitaur packs the sound of Moog's acclaimed Taurus and Taurus III bass synthesizers into an affordable tabletop module. Complete with a pair of voltage-controlled oscillators, an amazing ladder filter, a pair of filters, and other analog goodies, the Minitaur is in every sense of the term a true Moog synth. What's more, it features both MIDI and CV connectivity! Check out the overview, then learn all about the Moog Minitaur right here: http://bit.ly/sw_Minitaur"

NAMM: Arturia MiniBrute Hands on NAMM Floor Tweaking

YouTube Uploaded by genxtargetmarket on Jan 21, 2012

"Noisy inspection of the MiniBrute. As usual, it really is too noisy at NAMM to do proper demos.

In my opinion, the MiniBrute was the standout fixed-architecture synth product at the show. It's a single oscillator synth and is, thankfully, NOTHING like a Moog. They even went with a Steiner filter. Good. There are enough Moog transistor ladder filters out there and the Moogerfooger version is and obvious addition if you really want it.

Well done & congratulations Yves Usson, Nyle Steiner & Arturia."

"David Koltai, Founder of Pigtronix, introduced the revolutionary Infinity Looper at Winter NAMM 2012, and we're pretty impressed. This unique looper pedal offers advanced controls over a pair of stereo loops and features powerful functions such as analog limiting and sample-accurate MIDI sync, which provides guitarists, DJs, and electronic musicians with an easy way to integrate DAW software with their live rigs. It also provides you with an AUX Loop output, ideal for sending looped audio to stage monitors. VSTs for the iPad.

iPads on eBay

Update: a note on the VST support. Aside from the more popular VSTs out there, what comes to mind are all the free VSTs like the one below. If done right developers that offered these for free could make a buck or two per app. By done right, the interface can make or break an app on the iPad. Small knobs can be hard to turn unless they act more like a selector for horizontal slider editing, meaning your "grab" a knob and then move horizontally up and down to turn it.

The best moments with Roland paraphonic string machines

YouTube Uploaded by AnalogyGuy on Aug 24, 2010

"This is my sort of tribute to one of the best paraphonic string machines: Roland VP-330 and RS-505 and the best artist who used VP-330 at best: Vangelis.

Both VP-330 and RS-505 are using exactly same basic sounds for strings but there's only subtle differences at chorus circuits.

This musical compilation is compiled from some of the best excerpts of Vangelis' VP-330 sounds that are also my favourite... from the dreamy soundscapes of antarctic echoes into dark and dramatic movement of soil festivies. The very first song is just absolutely stunning... who said that there's no place for electronic sounds in classical music? The excerpts are from the songs:

1. Mask - movement 1
2. Mask - movement 2
3. Mask - movement 6
4. Antarctica - Antarctic echoes
5. Soil Festivies - movement 4

Please enjoy! I certainly did!!!

P.S. Sorry that many pics twisted a bit because of the video editing which shrinked the pics into specific size."
