Bassically - Moog Minitaur Track by hungrymedia

Bassically by hungrymedia

"A first run with the new Moog Minitaur. 4 audio tracks, no MIDI (and sloppy playing). I just recorded a track, tweaked the sound and went for another. Very stream of consciousness.

Some observations:

The low end is VERY nice (duh).

There is an upper range limit to the oscillators, which is pretty low. Makes sense for a bass synth. If you tune oscillator 2 up an octave from osc 1 and play in the upper octave, oscillator 2 stops at it's upper limit allowing it to drone a single note, no matter where you play in that octave. Seemed like something was wrong at first, then I understood what was happening. You can hear the effect in the middle range repeating riff above.

While there's no noise generator, you can crank the LFO all the way up and get a "nearly noise" effect (heard in the "drum" sounds above)

I expected this to sound exactly like the Moog Little Phatty. Not so. The filter has a more growly sound. I dig it."

Roland SH-1000 Vintage Synthesizer With Hard Case

via this auction

"The SH-1000 was the first instrument made by Roland, so therefore it is also their first keyboard! It is a monophonic analog synth with a single oscillator feeding a low-pass filter, an A.D.S.R. envelope, and two LFOs. It has 10 preset sounds. While this is a fully functioning keyboard, as you can see from the photos it shows some use. It has 2 plastic control knobs (Pitch and Rate) that are cracked, but each one still rotates completely. Also, the "Noise" and "Tremolo" keys have some side by side action. The wood body shows some wear as well. However, it is fully functional. Every key works and produces a sound, all ten preset sound tabs work. Every knob on the control panel works as intended. "Glide" does not seem to do very much though. All in all, it is a super cool vintage Roland that is easy to play and easy to manipulate sounds on. This Roland weighs 41 pounds and comes in the original hard case..."

"- 8 control knobs: Delay Time, Gain, High and Low Equalizer, Modulation with Rate and Depth controls.
- Record option activated with On/OFF button.

Like most Russian analog gear this signal processor produces sound that differs from well-known processor brands. Unit sounds really fantastic - very wide, warm and clean delay! Soviet technologies in 80's were absolutely different from their western analogs.

- Connectors: Line IN, Line OUT - 1/4" mono jack, Pedal In (5DIN)
- Body made of metal, rack size
- Power : 220/240 V AC."

Skot Wiedmann of Motus Mavis Featured in Yahoo Design Expo

Innovative Tech Design at Yahoo Design Expo

Skot Wiedman comes in at 2:33 with his gestural touch controller. If you are familiar with his work, see the Motus Mavis label below and of course his website MotusMavis.com. He brought us the Star Shaped Modular featured in NAMM 2009 and one of my favorite knob styles that resembles a buzz saw imo. See the label below for more including video of the star shaped modular. Yahoo Design Expo video description: "A handheld cube that lets you browse your Flickr photos. A headset that uses brainwaves to control how fast a bicyclist pedals. And Megaphone, a game that lets users play against each in public spaces with their mobile phones. Those were some of the concepts on display at the recent Yahoo Design Expo. Originally conceived by Joy Mountford when she was at Apple, the event brings together out-of-the-box design ideas by students from around the world. In this video, the Mercury News speaks with Mountford, now vice president of User Experience Design at Yahoo, and demos some of the projects."

Synthorama Synth Museum Switzerland

I visited the Synthorama synthesizer museum in Switzerland in 2008. I ran a number of posts featuring pics and video of the different synthesizer rooms. I just created a new Synthorama Matrix label for the posts. Feel free to check them out. You will be impressed by the museum. The posts remain unedited with the exception of bringing the video embeds up the larger 640 x 480 format.

Rare Clear Gleeman Pentaphonic

This one spotted by Alex on Ricardo.ch. This one is in Switzerland. The Swiss synth museum, Synthorama had one. You can see my pics from a visit here.

There's a black one listed on eBay US here. Note the built in speaker on the black one missing on the clear one here. Pics for that one captured here. See the Gleeman label below for more.

Introducing ADDA701 Voltage Controlled Oscillator

"Note: The hiss at the beginning and end of the video is due to the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) of my 550D camera that boosts the volume when doesn't detect sound. I'm connecting my mixer outputs to my camera through an attenuator cable i made that allows line inputs to be connected to the cannon's mic inputs without distorting the sound, although this does not disable the camera AGC: andregoncalves.info/ag_blog/?page_id=212"

Update:
"In the video you can see 3 ADDAC701 VCO's in action.
it starts with all three in rectangular waveforms with fast pwm modulation through the ADDAC502 Lissajous Curves.
ADDAC501 Complex Random in Quantized mode is used to generate the notes heard at a fixed speed.
The video goes through with all 3 VCO's in Saw waveform, then in Triangle and last with Sine Waveform.

A detailed description of the patch:

Audio Path:
All three ADDAC701 VCO's are connected to ADDAC801 Simple Mixer from their AUX OUT+
Second and third VCO's are also connected to the bottom oscilloscope of ADDAC205 Dual Oscilloscope from their AUX OUT- output.
The ADDAC801 Output is both connected to the sound system and to the top oscilloscope of ADDAC205 Dual Oscilloscope

Control Path:
Each of the 3 ADDAC501 Complex Random outputs is conneced to each VCO, controlling their frequency, ADDAC501 is in Quantized Mode.

3 outputs of the ADDAC502 Lissajous Curves are connected to the PWM of each VCO.

The track is all from the modular with just BD and HH from a TR-808 with the basline from a X0XB0X. I'd like to say that the sounds are all purely from the synth with no external outboard used but I can't as the track has got sh1t loads of compression and effects and crap all over it!"

/16 Channel Analog Sequencer Ratchet & Portamento 16RQSXA4

YouTube Uploaded by pieruixmaster on Mar 5, 2012

"1st video test on the 8/16 Ratcheting Analog Sequencer, Portamento was added to Banks A&B.

The 8/16 mode (Green selector switch) in the down position, will make the sequencer an 8 channel, bank A. Portamento for that channel will adjust that control, the Triggered output will come from "Trig". Control Voltage will be at the CV/Output A & A+B output. The will be no voltage sent to the CV/Output B.

There is a Direction select "Dir", this will allow the sequencer to scan left to right, or right to left. One thing with this option, you will not be able to select "scan and return", this will only operate in the "Forward" direction.

Selection the scan to and return, "Green" control knob, will allow you set what channel you'd like to scan and return.

Portamento control can be for Bank A or Bank B, you'll see two CV/Outputs. Bank A CV/Output is for channels 1 thur 8. Bank B CV/Output is for channels 9 thur 16. This makes it great for expanding to other equipment you might use.

Next to the "Green" control switch there is the A+B CV/Output, this CV output will use all the channels output and send them to this 1/4 inch CV output Jack. Both Portamento's will work, or if you want to use only 1 bank, that is great becuase you have the option to choose.

"Freq" will allow you to set the scan rate. "Ratch" will let you control the ratcheting rate, both completely at your control.

Triggered outputs are: "Trig", complete timing for scanning speed, "Trig/Ra" is the trigger pulse for the ratcheting timing.

This is the 1st design for this model"
