Leon Dewan demonstrates the Dewanatron Hymnotron at Big City Music

YouTube Uploaded by bigcitymusic on Mar 16, 2012

"Here's Leon demonstrating the long awaited Dewanatron Hymnotron at our shop in Studio City, California. http://bigcitymusic.com
The Hymnotron arrived at our shop in late January following NAMM 2012. Now it has a new home with a wonderful customer who loves it, as well he should. There is nothing that sounds like the Hymnotron! We look forward to having another one at our shop as soon as it is ready!"

Catch my NAMM video and pics of both Big City Music and the Hymnotron in my NAMM Megapost here.

Clockwork by The Richard Termini Project 'phase one' circa 1976

YouTube Uploaded by rtermini on Mar 4, 2010

"Termini wrote Clockwork during 1975 and 1976. In 1976 termini got a couple a two three friends together and they recorded it at a proper 2 inch 16 track recording studio in the big city. Daniel Paolillo did a masterful job on Bass, playing a huge custom built Bass and Guitar Double Neck. Marty Steinberg, pal since Junior High was the perfect Drummer. Termini plays Mellotron, Hammond B3, Minimoog and Acoustic piano on this work. Vicki Zollo appears on voice just at the end of this truncated version.
At the time of this recording Termini was 20, Marty and Dan and Vicki all were 19 years old.
Audio was captured by sound engineer William Wittman, AKA Weedy Wet. All the folks involved can be seen in this video. Can you spot them all? Cheers RT

BeatBOX controller config Demonstration

Uploaded by onyxashanti on Nov 11, 2011

"i use my non-existent beatboxing skills to take the alpha beatbox controller software through its paces."

via http://www.indiegogo.com/beatjazzsystem:

My name is Onyx Ashanti. I am an artist/invetor living in Berlin. I have spent the last few years working on a new way to combine improvisation, dance and sound design and i call it Beatjazz. I did my first crowdfunding campaign back in january to, as we put it, "Create the most amazing live music performance system, ever!". And with that campaign, the beatjazz controller was born and it has gone caused a bit of a buzz by way of a fortuitous TED talk presentation and an upcoming feature in MAKE magazine to present it to the world as an open source project.

The project excited the imaginations of thousands of people who shared this vision of "A" future of electronic music. and along the way much was learned! for instance, I only discovered after the controller was built, that the system was so ammenable to performance from the dance floor, within the crowd! further, i have discovered that when a performer has the narrative capacity of their body to make use of, it changes the conveyed message instantly and profoundly.

So, armed with this newfound knowledge from having played the prototype controller for the past 5 months, I feel it is time to build the system properly and fully.

I present the Beatjazz performance system.

A complete live performance architecture designed to enable completely immersive live electronic performance. it represents the intersection of hardware, software and concept."

The Tiny Beatereater 2 - Raw Demo

YouTube Uploaded by elohess2 on Mar 17, 2012

"News from the Beateater. Today I've tried to make some optimizsation of my first publish schematics. I added a "signal flatener" to the output of the amp and I added a passive lowpassfilter before the circuit. Now the beateater has a much better response to bass signals like bassdrum and other bassy instruments.

In this demo we see the raw mode. The ATTINY after the amplifier listen only to the flaten output signal and when a high water mark is reached the LED signal rises. In the next step, the alogrithm must be optimized. But this part every DIYer can implement his own ideas. I'll do a "don't response to base for defined time to supress ghost notes" next.

Working with the ATTINY (here a 85) is fine. It's cheap and the programming with an Arduino IDE is possible."

And then I start a walk through to the features to show how it works. Also the limits are described. The schematics and the software I'll publish during the next week. So come back and look here for a link. When it is published, I'll post the link here."

"This auction is for 2 vintage original EMS modules. Very rare units sold as accessoires to the Synthi AKS and VCS3 synthesizers but can be used with other (modular) synths and studio environments. Creative tools derived from the infamous Synthi 100 studio synthesizer. These 2 work well and have been gone over by a pro tech about a year ago. Super. What I like to mention is that the front panels have been filed off a few milimeters at the left and right ends. Probably to make them fit in better a rack. As you can see in the pictures this is not visible when rack mounted. The case is included."

"4MS Atoner Eurorack module
Construction (from kit) Build video
Haven't seen any videos from 4MS re building their kits.
So why not do one myself. hope this helps others get into building
their modules from the ground up.
Its a great way to learn the basics of Analog Systhesis.

1. Resistors 1st.
2. Resistor arrays then IC sockets, header pins etc.
3. caps, diodes and trimpots. (Careful with orientation)
4. Mount jacks to faceplate,,, then place pots on PCB to orientate with
faceplate. (dont solder to pcb until you have attached the pots firmly to
faceplate). Once you solder its difficult to detach the faceplate from PCB
should you wish to trouble shoot your soldering in the future.
5. make sure you ground the jacks etc to the PCB (I forgot to do this at first.. doh!)
6. Insert ICs into their sockets. ... watch orientation.
7. your done!

Many thanks to Matt from Rhythm Active for supplying the Atoner.

WMD Acoustic Trauma Analog Distortion Pedal

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"The WMD Acoustic Trauma is an all analog distortion unit that is capable of massive sounds, all the while retaining an unmatched clarity of tone and sound.

This is a two preamp distortion box, with some complexity, and is perfect for sonic experimenters. The two preamps are Hot and Cool, and as their names imply, one is low to medium gain with nice clean up and the other is massive and crunchy. There is also a blend knob for further tone shaping. The EQ has three bands: Freq controls frequency adjustment from 40hz to 15khz; the Q controls sharpness and narrowness of the center frequency; the Gain controls amount of signal going to the EQ band. The Noise Gate will act according to the guitar signal, Noise Reduction controls level of noise attenuation when gate is not open, and the LED indicates how open the gate is. There is also an adjustable trim pot that allows you to tweak the speed of the gate. The WMD Acoustic Trauma comes with its own 18v power supply. This is a completely unique and massively tweakable distortion box. The sound coming out of it are only limited by your imagination.
WMD Acoustic Trauma

This all analog distortion box gives you two blendable channels, and incredible control over the EQ, and a noise gate. This pedal was a year in the making from the mad scientists at WMD, and gives you unparalleled and massive sounding distortion as well as rich organic overdrive tones.
WMD Acoustic Trauma Features:

True Bypass
18vdc power supply included
Two Separate, but blendable preamps: Hot and Cool
Three Band EQ with separate Gain, Q, and Freq controls
Noise Gate with adjustable threshold, noise reduction
Output volume controls level of output to amplifier; levels can exceed 10 Vpp, so beware of overdriving your equipment"
