"The S3X shares nearly all functions and circuitry with its Synare 3 brother, so the crazy and deep sounds that you can get out of a 3 can be produced with the S3X. In addition to the Synare 3 sounds the S3X includes several key features. The first and most important is the use of an external power supply, so no batteries needed. The unit works with a 12v or 18v 1/8" plug wall adapter and finding one is easy (I can help you locate one if needed). The second feature is a set of presets that allow you to quickly switch to 5 preconfigured sounds (adjustable) with a turn of a knob.

Check out some of my videos of other Synares including an S3X (not the one in the auction but exactly the same model and sounds):" [above]

"Totally goofing around with a new Sputnik VCS build. The module might still need some calibration but overall works pretty well. I'm using a pair of Q106 VCO's and a Q960 sequencer to send one VCO into the input and the other VCO as a modifier. There is a feedback loop between theVCS and the second modifier VCO. The loop goes through a soft sync module. A hard sync from the Moon 563 trigger sequencer and Moon 554 Quad Divider resets the second VCO as well. The 563 is used to send a trigger to the VCS for cycle mode."

"::: INCLUDES: FAEMI-M (s/n 0585183), ORIGINAL CASE, PEDAL, CABLE FOR PEDAL AND POWER CABLE :::

FAEMI-M is a transistor portable polyphonic electromusic instrument produced by Katchkanar radio equipment factory "Formanta", which is the manufacturer of such well-known makes of synthesizers as Polivoks, Formanta, Manual, Maestro etc. Faemi-M is a "young brother" of a very popular synthesizer Polivoks. It bears the same logo on the package and retains some of its most impressive capabilities.

A performer can change the timbre using knobs and the switchers of sound synthesis control. It is possible to mix the sounds of one or several octaves, which enables a performer to change the timbre smoothly and to obtain sounds characteristic for various genres, such as folk, pop, and classical music, and for organ works. Faemi-M provides the possibility of the rapid change of the sound character with the help of such effects as frequency vibrato, tremolo, and release.

Faemi-M can be used both at home and in music ensembles. It can be used as an accompanying or a solo instrument, depending on the will of a performer. The power can be applied from the mains or from the internal battery of dry elements. The volume control is carried out with the help of a pedal and the respective knob on the case of the device. The case is made of light alloys and covered with artificial leather. The upper panel is covered with a coat of enamel.

In the lower part of the case, there are 12 openings, providing the access to oscillator frequency adjustment controls. On the rear panel of the case, there are plug-and-sockets for the following connections:
— of the device to an external amplifier and for recording without a microphone;
— of an external loudspeaker or telephones;
— of a pedal;
— of an external power source.

In the pedal, there is a built-in rectifier, which makes it possible to use AC mains as a power source."

Juno 106 Chorus vs Behringer CC300 pedal

Juno 106 Chorus vs Behringer CC300 pedal by CoolColJ
"Juno 106 onboard analog chorus vs the Behringer CC300 analog chorus pedal. Not a true 1 to 1 comparo as there are level differences, but it gives you an idea.

Juno dry - chorus1, Chorus 2 - Dry again, CC300 button1, 2, 3, 4

Similar effect, but not quite as strong and thick sounding in the lower mids. Some EQ could help I suppose. But it doesn't take over the sound like the Juno chorus, and hiss as much :)"

The Behringer recordings sound a bit distorted. Curious if it is the recording or the pedal.

Inverting this CV add some interesting contrary motion, instead of everything going up and down at the same time. Both synths are run through a Line 6 Echo Pro for MIDI Clock Synced echoes.

Garble Marvel

YouTube ublished on Apr 15, 2012 by sawsquaresine

"Garble Marvel is a free application for synthetically generating a random sequence of voice-like utterances (with an emphasis on vowel-based sounds). It makes a great complement to vocoding, talkbox or ring modulator effects in your music, or you could even wrap a whole song around its output. You can control various parameters such as garble duration, number of voice segments in the garble sequence, frequency range of segments, minimum segment size and shape of the amplitude envelope on each segment. You can also specify various effects to be randomly applied to segments in the sequence, such as filter, chorus, distortion, vibrato etc. These effects are capable of truly contorting the sounds this thing generates."

We both love this "Piano".
Its show that you don't need a heap of money to find great sounds.
Its awesomeness is partly its simplicity.
4 knobs, ranging from left to right... depth/rate, rate/envelope, pitch, volume.

The 2 little wodden buttons on the far right control waveform & mode.
The wooden keyboard is beautiful to feel (although we didn't use it this time).

We synced this to Abelton in minutes.

"Hi All,

A piece of music featuring the Korg Radias and the Yamaha MU90r Synth Module. Best listened to under headphones.

The Korg Radias - A synth I am really starting to enjoy to use. I created a couple of Pad Sounds on the Radias and started Menu Diving. Tweaking the 3 EG's and other features.

The Yamaha MU90r was used for the Choir sound. Its one of many sounds that the MU90r fairs well in for an old style XG Tone Generator. Finally get to use this synth again after so many years

The music was recorded live and layered into Logic Pro Only 3 Tracks were used. Keeping things simple.

I was going to use the Voyager XL on this track, but Sadly the Voyager XL has developed serious Problems and needs to spend some time on the Bench - Or back to the US."

cryptography (study I)

cryptography (study I) from macumbista on Vimeo.

"The "Cryptography Studies" examine the use of simple analog implementations of pseudo-random number generators, akin to those used in encryption algorithms, for the chaotic production of sound patterns. One of the simplest pseudo-random number generators is a three-stage shift register with a non-linear feedback loop, such as that found in Rob Hordijk's "Benjolin" instrument design.

This one was built over Easter weekend 2012 as a starting point for further research on the topic. I have focused on the chaotic zones which occur when new parameters have been set by the controls or feedback patching, before the machine settles into a steady state and predictable pattern.

You can read my extended musings on the relationship of cryptography and music here:
