Notes on the mods: "it also has the kenton 5 socket mod. which is perfect for you modular owners, have the filter be slowely modulated bu a lfo while sometimes randomly applying extra accents or slides on a different timesignature then the sequence. result: sequence will always sound really subtily different each time around. beautifully implemented by the proffesionals at xtended berlin. also in stead of just the audio in signal being a sum to the output (not anything anyone ever would use these days, useless function) the "audio in" now is modded in a way that it goes through the filter (!) and you can use the sequencer on the filter while processing the external sound (!) imagine you playing your sweet pads from an external source while the filter goes sequenced 303 style over the top end of the frequency spectrum! (while for example also softly modulated by another lfo via the kenton mod) really great mod as well. mind you; without using the mods, it sounds as original as possible, if not better (read later on my opinion of this specific unit)"

"Here is the description from Buchla & Associates:

The Model 210e Control and Signal Router directs the routing of up to eight control voltages and eight audio signals. The two sections function independently.

Originally conceived of as an aid to store and retrieve patch routings, the 210e evolved into a module with some additional capabilities.

In the control voltage section, each of five outputs can be connected to any one of eight inputs. (This is the functional replacement for a bunch of patchcords.) If more than one input is routed to a single output, the result is averaged.

Similarly, the signal routing section allows connection of each of five outputs to any one of eight inputs (patchcord emulation). Additionally, this section provides the possibility for matrix mixing, in which an output can respond to multiple inputs, with each connection independently scalable.

All 210e settings can be stored and retrieved under the direction of the model 225e or 206e preset manager, thus enabling the re-routing of signals for each preset."

Looking through, they mention that the Psych-tone is quite similar to the Triadex Muse. (cue drooling from people perhaps?!). The chips inside seem old-irregulars but they're standard things like flip-flops and logic gates so perhaps someone could make a modern version (no, I'm no putting myself forward)"

Korg MS20 vs. Korg MS50 low pass filter test

"I finally got myself a Korg MS 50 semi modular synthesizer. I bought my Korg MS20 back in 1996 and I have always wanted a MS50 as a side kick. What I lack the most in the Korg MS20 is multipliers and pule wave modulation. Ok, the high pass filter and "ring modular" is great but you need multis in a patchable synth.

I just want to say one thing about the MS series... They are not complete. I thought an MS50 would fix everything I lack in the MS20... It doesn't. Both lack some very important "modules" to work 100% as a team

Anyway... They still sound great. I didn't think the low pass filter would sound that different! The MS20 VCF sounds smooth like cotton compared to the MS50 which is a lot harsher. The PWM on the MS50 is very melodic and nice sounding. I still have a lot to learn how to integrate the MS20 / 50 in my sound palette.

With this video I try to show how different the filter sounds. A very basic test and I'm afraid that youtube messed up the sound, there are some fizzle which is not present in the original file.

This synth is very rare, less than 200 made and you don't see them come up for sale more than a couple times a year. There is a reason for that: they sound incredible! My favorite analog synthesizer, amazing analog sound that's very unique. NOTHING sounds like a Sunsyn. The routing and modulation capabilities are great and it's all very easy to use and hands on with minimal menu diving. The RCO's are fantastic and the variable four pole filter is one of the best I've used. It can do classic analog synth sounds but with the RCO and routing it reaches into new territory. This synth is in near mint shape and fully functional. This is a V1, SN008x. This was a backup unit and lightly used in a smoke free home studio. Only selling it because I have other urgent purchase needs for my studio right now. I would take this over other modern synths like the Andromeda and older stuff like Memorymoog or Prophet 5. It seriously sounds that good, a king for pads and modulation effects..."

"Ken Stone's superb Bi-N-Tic oscillator/filter from a kit build by the Bridechamber. Not just any old filter mind you. I used an SSL/Ian Fritz Double Dekka VCO and an Oakley vco with some sequencers and envelopes to play with this demo. The only filter is the BiNTic. Plenty of external excitations from the DDVCO "A channel" and some exponential FM from an EG modified "B channel" of the Double Dekka.
The Oakley vco is sending a triangle waveform through an Ian Fritz 5 Pulser which is modulated by an Ian Fritz ChaQuO chaos generator & quadrature oscillator. It then goes to the input of the BiNTic.
Octave switching on the Double Dekka is with an STG Soundlabs voltage mini store.
The sequencers (Q119 and Q960) are timed with the SSL Tap Tempo LFO. It's multiplier is modified with one channel of the Q960 for the staggered steps.
The Oakley vco has an LFO modulation (linear FM) from an Oakley VCADSR and MultiMix. The release timing of the envelope is voltage controlled by a row of the Q960."
