Simsynth Live | Subtractive Synthesizer

YouTube Published on May 2, 2012 by imageline

"MiniMoog meets Oberheim

SimSynth Live captures the big multi-oscillator sound of a MiniMoog, and combines it with the warm, fat sound of Oberheim style SVF filters.

The result? Rich strings, wall to wall brass, and fat punchy basses. And we haven't forgotten techno sounds either. SimSynth Live uses a filter technique that gives the EMPH knob a sound you can crank."

Synthrotek DS-8 Coron Space Drum Synth Clone High Def Sound Sampler

The DS-8 was originally designed by Coron in the 80′s to be mounted on to a drum to in order to produce synth percussion sounds. Similar to the DS-7, which contained a VCO +VCA chain. The LFO modulated the VCO and the decay envelope is triggered by a piezz0 cell. The Decay Pot is really a release and the VCA is controlled by the LFO. The DS-8 added a colored noise generator with a balance pot, which allows more hi-hat and snare "sounds" to be achieved. This PCB is MADE IN THE USA and up to Synthrotek's fine specs. PC Board measures 5 & 5/8ths X 2 & 5/8ths inches. The Pots can be through-hole mounted, for an easy build. Kit includes everything you need to build this radical drum synth. Pop it in the case of your choice and you are ready to rip!"

"Most famouly used by E.L.O (Electric Light Orchestra), Italy's "SLM Spectrum" analog string synth.

This one has been serviced by Adventures in Analog in SW Washinton State and has been custom modified as a purely string synth with vintage looking wood panels.

Great alternative to the ARP SE-1 / Solina / String ensemble. Same great analog string synth sound, for a fraction of the price

Very little info on this synth and the company is available online. From what I understand it was made by the same company the Welson String Synth.

Obviously VERY RARE and sounds SUPER COOL!

Individual controls are:
Cello On/Off
Violin On/Off
Cello Volume
Violin Volume
Sustain & Decay Envelope
Stereo and Mono Outputs"

Corsynth C102 VC LFO - New waveforms using self-modulation technique

YouTube Published on May 2, 2012 by Corsynth

Corsynth C102 Demo 2 : New waveforms using self-modulation technique.

This video shows how to get new waveforms from the C102 VC LFO using self-modulation technique.

Corsynth is a company from the Northwest of Spain dedicated to manufacture modules for analogue modular synthesizers in Moog format ( MU )

The C102 VC LFO is a voltage controlled low frequency oscillator with five waveforms available simultaneously.

With three frequency ranges ( L, M, H ) the VC LFO can oscillate from 7 minutes per cycle up to 800 Hz. Using the FM MOD input this range can be extended from 12 minutes per cycle up to 1,3 KHz. With this wide frequency range, the LFO can be used to produce really slow and subtle modulations and audio frequency modulation (FM sounds).

Another important feature is that the oscillation frequency can be voltage controlled using the FM input. You can modulate the frequency with an envelope, other LFO , sequencer etc. Using the FM input, it's also possible to create new waveforms like hyperbolic sine wave, hyperbolic cosine wave and more. Just connect one of the VC-LFO outputs to its own FM input and turn up the FM level potentiometer.

Also the C102 VC LFO has a Sync / Reset input. Every time a trigger signal is detected, the LFO will restart the waveform to the beginning of its cycle.

moog in Tokyo

flickr By lorenzog.

Not 100% sure, but based on the tags in the flickr shot, this one appears to be a Moog modular in Tokyo. Isao Tomita in the background. If anyone can verify where this is at feel free to comment or shoot me an email.

And one of my favorite YouTube videos (don't miss it): Isao Tomita - When you wish upon a Star

Update via the world of next tuesday in the comments: "Yes, this is Tomita's first of two Moog systems, the System IIIP along with a rare Moog Scale Programmer in front (As I understand it the regular Moog keyboard has fixed resistors for the notes, this either replaces or augments them with pots). I believe he is still actively using his augmented System 55. As far as I know this one is on display at a University. Tomita has taught master classes many years and set up a program called The Tomita Method. You can see his other Moog set up for use http://www.tomitamethod.com/index.htm I see that site seems to have stopped being updated in 2009. It is (or perhaps was) a graduate program at Shobi University near Tokyo. I would think he's still teaching there at minimum since Shobi's website continues to mention his 2011 albums under 'what's new'"

followed by: "Oh, while I've been unable to confirm it, I would assume Tomita bought this system since its more or less the one seen on the cover of Switched On Bach. A slight bit of irony because that was not Carlos' actual system for the cover photo shoot. Tomita still tells the story about how Japanese customs impounded his newly bought Moog for a lengthy time as they could not determine what it was."

Eurorack Cases by Lamond Design and Matthew Goike & a Contest

Microscopial is running a contest on Muff's (for members), for a custom 3U or 6U 104hp max case designed by Matthew Goike. Below are some images of Matthew and Lamond's work.

"What the rules are:

There will be a simple multiple choice questions so it is a game of skill to win

One entry is £5 (whatever the conversion rate is on paypal it should still come to £5 into my account as that is the currency I pay for everything)and you can do multiple entries which will be treated as single entries for final picking

Mike and I will pick the winner thru fair means (already thought off)

I will work with the winner on style(3U or 6U 104hp max) and wood (ash, oak, sapele, sycamore, tiger oak, walnut elm, cherry or plywood if you really want)

Power will be included(doepfer or tiptop I'll decide)

Postage to anywhere in the world within reason(I will pay max £50 towards postage as ive just found out that to post it to Azerbaijan/Brazil etc for example is over £100 and whilst I'm not fussed on making money out of this I certainly dont want to be out of pocket.

The competition will run from 1st to the end of the month and Mike will pick a winner within a week after that hopefully and then I will contact the winner and start the process."

ZEROG Modular Beats

"Modular Beats is a labour of love of Roger Grønberg, a sound designer from Norway who specialises in physical modelling and sound invention.

In today's world of routine beats you need something to stick out from the crowd. Modular Beats is full of stand-out beats and kits made from pure analog sources. You will be amazed by the diversity and invention the can be squeezed out of these huge, wonderful machines.

The idea behind the project was to make a usable, unique and fresh sounding drum and percussion library. To do that, no samples or drum machines have been used. The sounds and loops are 100% original and created using only modular synthesizers and analog monosynths. The basis of each sound is oscillators and noise generators. Over 25 GB of raw material and 4000 work hours have gone into this library..."
