Tiptop Audio Featured In Call of Duty: Black Ops II Sound Design

Pictured: Sound designer Shawn Jimmerson with his Tiptop Audio Modular (pic via gameover.gr - Googlish here).

The image below is via VentureBeat where you'll find a full post.

"Brian Tuey (pictured middle), audio director at Treyarch (the Activision Blizzard game studio that is making Black Ops II), said in an interview with GamesBeat that 'going into the near future with this game meant something completely different.' Making new sounds is all part of trying to bring innovation to a game series such as Call of Duty which has had many iterations that took place in the past."

To the right (Brian's left) is Chris Cowell, lead sound designer at Treyarch, and to the left is Shawn Jimmerson.

Regarding the device Brian is tinkering with, "The team was resourceful and relied on cheap creations [Not the Tiptop system! :)]. They created an oscillator (pictured in the middle) that you could touch and short-circuit to produce different kinds of crazy sounds."

Sequera - Next Era Sequencer on Indiegogo

Sequera from juno on Vimeo.
Update: new video below.

via Indiegogo where you can pre-order Sequera and help fund the project.

"This is a post-sequencer project named as "Sequera" the sequencer for the next era that focuses on flexibility of exploring music sequencing and midi processing, plus hint of hardware sequencers.

Started by juno(me) from a year ago as a hidden project partnering with cocoa programmer: Tom Jeffries, graphic, aerosol artist: Sano. Now it’s on the middle way for the first Mac version and keep testing whenever alpha versions come up.

Current alpha-version does or allows...
- entering notes for 32 steps max
- entering notes with computer keyboard
- selecting desired track with computer keyboard
- and a few other short cut key assignments
- displays note entry
- plays notes
- randomizes notes
- changing tempo
- changing number of steps to be loop-played

First Mac version is willing to involve...
- velocity entry / change
- mute each tracks
- midi note number select
- gate time set

Next coming features...
- timing adjustment for each notes by computer keyboard
- more flexibility for the steps to be played or not to be played
- compatible with midi commands all around
- pitch transition
- real-time performance features, midi-effects

The advantage of using Sequera

Entirely, Sequera allows user to work on crating sequence extremely fast like a hardware sequencer. This also means, user can try, explore and modify the sequence as more as and as free as possible with using same working time.

It’s not much focusing on making up entire song, but specialized in short length composition with highest possible scope. Ideal for finding unique melody, experimental grooves, or impressive and comprehensive sound designing."

Alesis Andromeda 2011 Demos & the Custom Alesis Aurora

YouTube Uploaded by JupiterSynth on Feb 27, 2011

"Demo of Alesis Andromeda analog synthesizer. Its power is simply impressive...Andromeda can sound like many of the famous vintage synthesizers and also different from all others. In these 10 minutes I could only cover a very very small fraction of its capabilities. Sound quality might not be very good due to the relatively poor recording equipment. Photos of my own A6 with modified side pannels.Enjoy !"

Alesis Andromeda 2011 Demo Part 2

Uploaded by JupiterSynth on Nov 21, 2011

"Part 2 of the Alesis A6 demo. Most of the patches used this time are made by myself. Hope you like it...Enjoy!"

The custom A6 pictures is the Alesis Aurora. You can find another custom tilted panel A6 here.

Update: Part of me wondered if it was an Elhardt hoax. some of you might remember the SMS 2000: here and here to start, as well as the Bahn Sage. See the Seekers and Bahn labels under each for follow-up posts if interested or the KH label. Yes I actually created a label for his antics.

Update via urge in the comments: "I can guarantee that the Aurora isn't an Elhardt hoax as its sitting in my studio.I purchased it from Khris a few years back; the top panel with the joystick and mixer section doesn't exist...."

Alesis MICRON Analog Sounds

YouTube Uploaded by JupiterSynth on Nov 12, 2011

"Short demo of Alesis Micron showing some "analog" sounds. Al patches programmed by myself. Playing is not that good since I spent most of the time programming and than quickly recorded the audio. This synth sounds awesome and if well programmed it can sound so close to a real vintage analog synthesizer (if this is what you are looking for). Hope you will enjoy!"

Studio Electronics SE1 Demo

YouTube Uploaded by JupiterSynth on Feb 23, 2011

"This is a short demo of Studio Electronics SE1 Analog Synthesizer. Only a touch of reverb added to the audio file. The synthesizer is much more versatile than what I managed to show in this movie. Since there are not many demos of SE1 I hope you'll enjoy it...I'll do my best to find the time to put demos of ATC-X and Alesis Andromeda...."

Kurzweil K2000 Demo

YouTube Uploaded by JupiterSynth on Dec 26, 2009

"Demo of one of the best synths (IMO), with one of the most innovative synthesis architecture. I have selected patches which reproduce the sound of famous analog synthesizers. To me, Kurzweil K2000 has a very warm and rich sound. I own a few analog synths (A6, SE Atc-X and Se-1, MKS 70, Jupiter 4, etc) and have listened to lots of analog synths demos available on the internet and I think that K2000 deserves it's place up there with the best. Enjoy!"

"As we hit production of the micromac- her's one of the last videos from the prototype units- this video features the desktop version doing baqss lines and the 3U format version doing some strange glide stuff! It's been an interesting experiment- the keyboard controllers are 2 x Korg Prophecies doing the arpegiation thing at different timings! Apart from my own designs featured here- I'd highly recommend 2 x Prophecies as keyboard controllers! I guess all this sound coming from such small units....starts to erase the need for the massive modular...especially if you after this kind of sound! All played live....and yes, the video needs a touch of brightening slash contrast!"

"Canadian duo Orphx have been releasing electronic music since 1993, and while they were best known in experimental/industrial music circles for many years, today they are regarded as pioneers in the fusion of techno and industrial music. Orphx's recent output on Sonic Groove has met with critical acclaim from many of techno's leading DJs. Having performed live with laptops for several years, Orphx's Christina Sealey made the decision to delve in modular synthesizers, hoping it would bring some spontaneity and excitement to Orphx's music, both on stage and in the studio.

Orphx's Christina Sealey will be performing live, as part of Sealey/Greenspan/Lanza, at I Dream Of Wires' 2012 MUTEK showcase.

I DREAM OF WIRES is a forthcoming documentary film about the history and resurgence of modular synthesizers. The film is currently in production. This is the 6th in a series of extended interviews, which will be produced and released in various formats throughout the production, and following the release, of the film. I DREAM OF WIRES extended interview segments are sponsored by MATRIXSYNTH (m.matrixsynth.com).

Catch I DREAM OF WIRES' showcase at Mutek Montreal 2012: Saturday June 2 @ Satosphere, with live performances, all incorporating modular synthesizers, by Sealey/Greenspan/Lanza (Orphx/Junior Boys), Keith Fullerton Whitman (Kranky/Editions Mego), Solvent (Ghostly International/Suction Records), Clark (Warp Records), and Container (Spectrum Spools).

"Rex Probe wrote: The release of our latest M-Class m-odule, the "CRITTER" - my gesture to the "East Coast Synthesis" school paradigm (Mr. Moog, et al), as a stand-alone entity, but it really comes together when partnered with the "CREATURE" for the full gamut meeting of "East & West" stylings featuring:

1 - Precision Oscillator w/ linear FM and 3 simultaneous waveform outputs
1 - VC Time Gen Oscillator w/ variable wave form symmetry, ASR envelope & LFO functions
2 - X-Faders (4 VCAs) for VC Mixing and stereo spatial rendering
2 - Muti-pass Filters - one with VC 'Q' and trigger input and one with VC Slope (18 db cut-off)
1- Smooth & stepped generator for muti-faceted CV and audio generation and processing
1- Dual Timing Generator for AR & ASR envelopes, VC Osc and /or LFO functions, Env follower

Now that's both deep and dense functionality!

Finally getting my brain in to the GENOME Midi Sequencer, by White Noise Audio. It is VERY COOL!

Using network MIDI, I've connected the iPad2 (running Genome/Arctic Keys/BS-16i/NLog Pro), to an iPhone 4 (running Sunrizer) and an iPod Touch (running Arctic Keys).

Also, via an iRig MIDI connector on the iPad, am sending a MIDI signal to a Moog Little Phatty as well. Can you believe this all works! I have a pretty strong WiFi signal, so the iPhone/iPod Touch work well and there isn't any discernible latency.

Presumably I could run my other iPod touch as well, with a compatible virtual MIDI app. I also have a MIDI splitter box, so the idea of sending to more MIDI hardware is also a idea (or by chaining with MIDI THRU).

The possibilities are great with Genome!

Thanks for watching!"

Wildcat Modular Synthesizer System Diy by EFM

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction
"We found this diy kit tucked back in a box in our tech bench when we bought our current studio space. I believe this is the first Wildcat Modular Synth Board and it appears to be semi populated and needs work by a experienced Synth builder. In the box is a zip lock bag of components and a static free bag of programmed chips and a notebook with printout schem and parts list. Their are also 6 Additional single modules From EFM (Electronic for music).

Description From Synthdiy: The Wildcat is a modular system designed to be flexible enough to to build many types of synthesizers as well as remain unique. The most comprehensive system is naturally the most expensive to build. However the Wildcat board can also be used to construct a much less expensive synthesizer. A full blown Wildcat Modular could cost more than $1000. The Wildcat Modular-1 was close to $600. About $100 went for ribbon cable and headerconnectors.

If you want to direct-wire and you already have or build your own case you can cut it down to under $500.

Contents Of This Bid:
* EFM WILD CAT MODULAR SYNTH REV: A
* EFM VCF2F model: H&L-1 1104

modcan frequency shifter 39a, in 2 patches

YouTube Published on May 16, 2012 by shaft9000

"In 2 parts: drum processing begins at 5:10.

The first patch is silly-complicated:
a-155 sequencer combo driving 2 anti-oscillators in FM into a plan b m13 lpg+vca. VILFO modulates the FMop(Anti 1), while cwejman vc-adsr2 moves the m13. output goes to the modcan FS 39a and 59a DDL. (no filtering)

The second patch is a jomox999 into the 45a E-Follower, but using the gate out to drive the 04a EG instead of the 45a's EG. 04a goes to 48 dB LPF then 4vca, and then through the FS 39a and out the 59a DDL.
There's a touch of eventide timefactor at the end for those offset dubby"
