"Yamaha CS 30 Vintage Synthesizer demo - No Music or Tracks - just 8 min of what you can do with the beast...analogue compact mono synth ;-)"

Note this video is not for SN 2484 pictured below. It was linked as a good example in the listing.

via this auction

"The CS-30 is a large, knob infested, analog synthesizer with masses of features. It is a monophonic synth with two oscillators with separate outputs, two multimode resonant filters, two VCAs, two multi waveform LFOs and three envelopes. It also features a ring modulator, external audio triggering and an excellent 8-step sequencer.

Great sounding with a vast range of possibilities for sound shaping and modulation based experimentation. It can be punchy and fast, richly textured or funky as hell. The closest you get to a modular without patch cords.

This machine is a sound designers dream.

"The PMM was built for Mark B, Producer/Owner of International Feel Recordings. A massive gallery is below.

The controller is built specifically for version 2.0 of Arturia’s Minimoog V Virtual Instrument, which is in turn inspired from the original Minimoog. If you’re not familiar with Virtual Instruments, I’m sure this all feels quite “meta,” but it’s pretty common in music technology."

Magic Echo Music PALette V2 Pre-Order Now Open

via Magic Echo Music

"We are thrilled to announce our new PALette V2 semi modular! It is an important addition to our product line as we have greatly refined and improved upon the original design of PALette.

The functions are mostly identical to the original PALette, the synth we love to make.

The changes in V2 are realized through the notable improvements in circuit board design and manufacturing.

We are proud of the improvements, as all PCB mounted hardware are quality parts and the build is durable and reliable for touring. We added internal compensation for room temperature, so that the voltage controlled oscillators are in tune wherever you are.

PALette V2 uses matched transistors so that you get improved tracking with external 1v/octave CV keyboards, and we moved the patch panel to the front, making an accessible interface with 1/4″ cables.

Lastly and importantly, we maintained the original sound design of the PALette that we are passionate about!

(Have you heard some of our demos from V1? They are here on Soundcloud.)

"This is your chance to own a one-of-a-kind piece of music history!!! This is THE Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 vintage analog synthesizer owned and used extensively in studio and touring by Paul Humphreys of OMD during the 1980's. It has been used on many of OMD's greatest hits. The memory patches are loaded with original sounds created by Paul and show the virtuosity of this synth pioneer. You will never see or hear another one like it!

This synth was acquired directly from Paul Humphreys' ex-wife at the Southern California home where he lived and worked during the 1980's. It is version 3.2 and has recently been restored to perfect working condition by Audio Rehab, a top vintage synth repair shop in L.A. Cosmetically, it shows the wear you would expect from a work horse of the 80's OMD sound."

HackMe Rockit Demo

YouTube Published on May 17, 2012 by snolan1990

"This is a demonstration of some of the sounds and features of this HackMe Rockit synthesizer, designed by Matthew Heinz, which I built from kit a little while back. This demo is less about music and more about the technology and functions of the machine so if you are not into synths you will probably find it boring. You can find out all about the synth or order your own kit from this site http://hackmeopen.com/?page_id=474&fb_source=message.

The Rockit is a dual oscillator monophonic synthesizer. The oscillators are 8 bit and each have 16 different waveforms. It has a VCA with full ADSR as well as a multi-mode 2 pole VCF again with full ADSR. Add to this a pair of LFOs with complex routeing options, Full MIDI support and 16 patch memories and you have a nice little package.

Because of the 8 bit wave table oscillators this thing can do a plethora of Atari sound with the VCA and VCF wide open but once you start get them involved then it moves over to more traditional analogue mono sounds.

Just so you are aware I built the little box case for my Rockit from scratch, the designer does have a case for sale from his site but I am planning to rack mount this thing at some point so I built my own cheap case as a temporary method of keeping it dust free."

RIP Donna Summer

Donna Summer - Love To Love You Baby(1975)

YouTube Uploaded by glauciomunduruca on Sep 10, 2006

Donna Summer passed a way today at the age of 63.

"In 1975, Summer approached Moroder with an idea for a song she and Bellotte were working on for another singer. She had come up with the lyric 'love to love you, baby'. Moroder was interested in developing the new sound that was becoming popular and used Summer's lyric to develop the song. Moroder persuaded Summer to record what was to be a demo track for another performer. She later said that she had thought of how the song might sound if Marilyn Monroe had sung it and began cooing the lyrics. To get into the mood of recording the song, she requested Moroder turn off the lights while they sat on a sofa with him inducing her moans and groans. After hearing playback of the song, Moroder felt Summer's version should actually be released. Although some radio stations refused to play it due to its suggestive style, "Love to Love You" found chart success in several European countries, and made the Top 5 in the United Kingdom... In 1977, Summer released the concept album I Remember Yesterday. This album included her second top ten single, 'I Feel Love', which reached number six in the US and number one in the UK."

Happy Nerding Super Sawtor - First Impressions

YouTube ublished on May 17, 2012 by JohnLRice

"This is just some footage of me messing around with the new Super Sawtor module from Happy Nerding. I'll do another video later that describes what is going on in detail.

The Super Sawtor takes a sawtooth wave from a VCO as an input and "animates" it so that it sounds anywhere from slightly modulated to something like many VCOs at once.

With this video I'm often switching back and forth between the straight unprocessed sawtooth wave and the processed Sawtor output set at various degrees of "spread". The video starts out mono and then later I has the second channel. At one point I modulate the top channel with a LFO and also add some delay/echo during the last couple sections."

"All sounds are made using only oscillators and noise as the sound source. No drums, drum machines, no samples. I have stayed clear of multipurpose modules and “drum modules”. The starting point is oscillators, noise, filters and ADSR. Special modules include BBD delays (analog delay based on the bucket brigade chip), frequency shifter (translates every signal feed into it by the same amount of Hz), wave shapers (offset, clipping, overdrive) and uncertainty modules as modulators."

Later on I will add another row of Hordijk modules to eventually get an instrument consisting of two rows of 12 MU each of Mos-Lab modules and two rows of 12 MU each of Hordijk modules. This is still quite "reasonable" in terms of size and cost..."

CRUMAR TRILOGY Analog Synthesizer 1981 | HD DEMO

YouTube Published on May 17, 2012 by AnalogAudio1

"This is a short HQ sound demo of the Crumar Trilogy. I played it dry without any additional effects.

The Crumar Trilogy is a multi keyboard instrument / string machine from 1981. It has 3 polyphonic sections: ORGAN, SYNTHESIZER and STRING ENSEMBLE. The best about the Trilogy is the polyphonic synth section, which has 2 VCOs per voice, 24 dB filters which employ the famous SSM chips... The STRING ENSEMBLE and ORGAN sections sound somewhat cheesy, but hey, sometimes you need some vintage cheesy sounds ;-)

Very impressive looking. It has no patch memory like you might think. The Oberheim-type led buttons just recall presets.

On a Vangelis record (I don't remember the title) you see a picture of the Trilogy.

Parker is planning to sell this to a museum so don't ask about acquiring it at this point. This is just for historical reference and to give a little visual on an instrument that probably doesn't have any youtube coverage otherwise. This instrument obviously used vacuum tubes and no I have no diagram for it. The tilters on the left are for changing various typical parameters of this type of thing. Probably footage mixture and filter controls. As some know it's the instrument used in Del Shannon's 'Runaway'. I do a song by this title also. Mine doesn't use an ondioline :-). It does have great lyrics and a moving beat though. It's found on my myspace site as I recall. enjoy :-)"

Triadex Muse Guitar

YouTube Published on May 17, 2012 by NakagawaGakki

"I have built an interface for using the Acc. Output signals from the Mighty Triadex Muse to drive circuits. In this video I have the 8 Muse outputs switched down to 4 then run through an OPAMP buffer to little motors striking a 4string instrument. The motors have silicon plectrums on them that stretch when spinning but clear the strings when stationary, they strike from the bottom. This way the motors never stall. One motor in this video is faulty...
An infinite variety of sequences is possible with this set up, it gets really interesting when the tempo and theme parameters are altered. Complex harmonics are heard through the individual pickups, rhythmic drones. This video is shot using the low end camera mic. Sorry. A weird querk is when the Muse is shut down... for some reason the motors spindown and drain a voltage.
I plan to use a similar interface as a sequencer for my Modular, but in reality the complex pulses can be used to drive just about anything"

Pittsburgh Modular Filter Introduction Video

YouTube Published on May 17, 2012 by amphonic

http://pittsburghmodular.com/filter/

"The Filter defines the Jekyll and Hyde sound of Pittsburgh Modular. On the one hand, it offers a warm, organic sweep through the full frequency range. The lowpass filter is gummy and relaxed while the highpass is clean and defined. On the other hand, switching into oscillator mode turns theFilter into a howling beast capable of chunky walls of distortion and noise. The goal was to produce a filter that does not have a single sweet spot. We worked to make every turn of a knob or flip of a switch offer something new and musically engaging."

"Quintette is a collective work achieved with a group a four students of Lycée Edouard Herriot, Lyon, France : Laure Varichon, Noé Charmet, Clément Poignet, Kiefer Wiessler. During the year 2011-2010, they joined a course I created about philosophy of aesthetics and electronic music. The result of our work is this composition in five movements for Virus TI, Microkorg and Doepfer, to which we added parts for voices and piano. The voice parts are the free theater like interpretation of two famous texts by Emmanuel kant and Friedrich Nietzsche about the question of genius. The voices and the piano were sometimes transformed with the GRM Tools. The five films were created by the four students and I to illustrate the notion of creation in a free way, through the process of a painting's creation followed until the end of the fifth movement. A bonus consisting in one of my own composition was added to the Quintette. The whole work was shown for the first time in Lycée Edouard Herriot on friday 11 May 2012, to a large audience during the Week of Arts of this high school. I want to thank the four students for their friendly involvement and beautiful work in this project !"
