Manhattan Analog MA35 demo

Manhattan Analog MA35 demo from Equinoxoz music solutions on Vimeo.

"Ok so just got the new MA35 filter in from Jason Coates (Manhattan analog) at my shop Equinoxoz.com, it is based on the Korg MS10 topology. Being a huge fan of the Korg MS series I was very excited to try out this new module as from the demos I had heard it sounded really incredible. So I decided to make a video! ;-) Well.......It did NOT dissapoint, this filter absoutely NAILS that Korgy sound and in my opinion it is because of the fact that not only does it have an authentic filter sound but also the onboard VCA imparts a special characteristic sound to the module overall as well. Ok so for the patch, pretty basic stuff. Just two Analogue Systems RS95E's at various tunings throughout the video running into the two, nicely overdriveable inputs of the filter. I had a Harvestman Double Andore being used as both the Envelope for the VCA and also the Envelope for the Filter. I was playing the notes from an Analogue Systems Demon keyboard controller. The Bubblesound ULFO was conscripted at times to perform som modulation duties such as Filter cutoff modulation and controlling the VC'able HP/LP response. I have to say that (although I may be a bit biased) this filter is incredible, sounds so authentic to my ear and if you were to run two in series it would be an excellent rendition of the classic Korg MS20 topology. The filter is great value as well particularly for small systems with it having the two inputs and the on board VCA. Great work from Manhattan Analog! Hope this video gives you some ideas of the sounds capable with this module."

"Anyware Instruments " Megapole" 4-pole stereo filter

Rackmount 4-pole filter by Anyware Instruments in Germany. Very few of these were actually built, and it sounds fantastic . Great working condition; wall wart power not included.

'4-pole low-pass filters were developed according to the Minimoog model . It's spectrum ranges from gentle pad sounds to smacking filter bass to weird SFX sounds, such as only a fully-analog low-pass filter can provide. With its extensive modulation capabilities, the Megapole is perfect for stereo processing. The two-24dB filters can be used independently, as well as in mono in stereo - can be operated with either-24dB or-48dB (series connection of the two channels).'"

"Up for auction is a vintage Kawai S100-f synthesizer that is a transitional badge casing. It says Teisco on the back and front but Kawai put heavy duty sticky labels over the casing that say Kawai (see pics). I thought that was interesting but the synth is very cool. Primitive modular synth but impossible to duplicate. This synth is in great cosmetic and working condition with no significant issues."

Synare PS-1 Analog Drum Percussion Synthesizer w/Trig In & Noise Mods

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

via the listing: "About a year ago the noise section went out on it, so I sent it to Switched-On Music Electronics in Austin, TX for repairs. While it was in I decided to have it modded with trigger inputs to bypass the pads, so it could be sequenced with an analog sequencer, or by a modular synth. The tech doing the mods also talked me into modding the noise section with a pot that lowers the bit rate of the noise (think NES video game explosions at low rates). The repairs and mods cost $400, so think of that as something you shouldn't have to do anytime soon if you decide to buy this.

Another notable thing about this unit is the amazing condition of the pads. I've never seen one with pads in this good of condition and is one of the main reason I originally picked this up. The pads work great, although some areas on the outside of the pads take a slightly harder hit to respond. That's another good reason for the trigger input mods.

For anyone who hasn't heard one of these, the closest things I can think of that it sounds like is an ARP Odyssey, or an MS-20. Everything is more geared for percussion though, so think weird metallic pings, and massive pink and white noise gongs. The pads can be tuned so that each of the 4 pads have 3 sections and therefor 12 notes. Not particularly easy to play melodic things that way but it might help you come up with things you wouldn't normally play on a regular synth with keys. I find it more useful for percussive clangs and booms. Sounds amazing when mixed and triggered with another analog drum machine like a Korg Rhythm 55."

Chimera BC16 mini modular analogue synthesizer with CV and MIDI

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"On offer is one Chimera BC16 digital/analog mini modular monosynth. One of the coolest pieces of kit to appear in recent years. Used (allegedly) by the likes of Depeche Mode and Throbbing Gristle.

Sadly, the BC16's maker's business acumen was rather less well developed than his inventiveness (to put it mildly), so they were only made for a short while in very small quantities. Rare as the proverbial hen's teeth! Nevertheless it makes some wonderful analoggy (sic.) noises and is great fun to use.

This is from, I believe, the last batch of BC16s made, and has firmware version 3, which is as good as they got, I think. As far as I can tell, it is working perfectly. Midi and CV work as they should, and it makes squelchy, gritty and gnarly bleeping noises! What more could you want? It's actually a very capable little synth when used via Midi.

As you can see in the pictures, I have added labels for the various knobs and patch points. The labels can of course easily be removed if serendipity is your thing, but I have found them rather useful getting to know the beast!

Included are the essential control signal inverter (so the BC16 can talk to other CV gear such as Moogs etc.) and ten mini banana patch cables. I'll include a print of the manual, such as it is. The company went belly up before they got round to finishing the manual, but the essentials are there.

Specs:
1 ADSR
1 LFO
1 VCA
2 linked VCOs
24dB VCF
Noise source
Ring modulator
Headphone amplifier
Arpeggiator
Midi and/or CV control
Requires 6 AAA batteries"

"A 4093 quad-nand synth with added PT2399 delay effect built in.
Also with added line-in to hook up external sources to the delay module."

via this auction

"A lovely macabre square-wave nosie maker based around a 4093 quad nand gate CMOS chip.
Capable of hideously beautiful beepy noise.

The 4 oscillators interact with each other to create a relentless range of synth tones.

The power starve dial adds further modulation and manipulation of the oscillations.

Added to this bleeper is a digital delay circuit, built from a PT2399.
The controls are for delay time and looping feedback.
It's lo-fi, filthy and full of gritty digital artifacts when longer delay times are used.

The skull fits well into the palm and can be enjoyed by anyone with a passion for harsh, grinding noise terrorism.
It's powered by a single 9v battery which is housed in a holder on the back of the skull head.
There's a 6.35mm jack socket for hooking up to your amp/mixer/effects.
There's also a line-in socket too so you can dirty & delay your other instruments.
There's no internal speaker!

The hollow of the skull is illuminated by a flickering red candle-effect LED."

Broken Silicon Patch by Richard Devine

"First experiment using the 'Broken Silicon'- error codes 1 - z-dsp card. The patch was created using all 8 program modes of the 'Error Codes card. ' Master clock from the Intellijel Dixie, then patched to a MakeNoise Brains and two Pressure points. Then clocked to a Doepfer A-160, 161 which triggered the CV program changes and created some very interesting digital noise bursts. Kick drum from the Cwejman BLD, and extra percussion from the SnazzyFX ardcore.

Note: patch is completely modular, no drum machines or computers used here:-)"

"Seven improvised pieces with the Haken Continuum Fingerboard and modular synth. Again, no Midi was used. The Haken's internal sound was routed to the Analogue Systems RS-35 External Processor to generate cv from pitch and volume, with the JAG distributing cv to different modules simultaneously, the Doepfer A-163 Frequency Divider and A-124 Wasp Filter providing bass and the Doepfer A-137 Waveform Multiplier mangling the Haken's sounds.
