My Dinner With Spandre from thonkblog on Vimeo.

100% Modular Synth

Farfest 2012 - October 4 - 7 Deleware, USA

A chance to see some vintage gear playing 70's prog rock!

This one in via decaying.sine, also posted on Muff's:

"Hey Everyone,
I wanted to put out a message for a friend who has worked really hard with his colleagues to put a really wonderful event together. It's called FarFest 2012. The website is here: http://www.farfest.com/

Tickets are now on sale.

My friend Gerry has helped organize this event. It is unique because they are having bands coming to play, and his group has offered to locate hard to find instruments for the bands so that when they play at the event they can reproduce the amazing progressive rock sound of the 70's. Gerry and his group went out and FOUND these instruments so that the bands could play them at this event. Basically, the goal of FarFest is to bring these lovely instruments and bands together to produce the sounds that we love, and some bands are reforming just for the performance!

On opening night, the keyboards will be on display in the Ninth Muse - an ample space on the second floor of the Grand Opera House. The exhibit will definitely be interactive, and it's expected that there will be a large variety of instruments on display.

Here is a list of the instruments the bands requested:
Elka Rhapsody 610
Farfisa Syntorchestra
Fender Rhodes Electric Piano
Hammond B3 Organ
Mellotron 400
Mini Moog
Moog Taurus Bass Pedals
Steinway 9' Concert Grand Piano
Yamaha 6' Baby Grand Piano

The last I talked to Gerry they had lined up most of the keyboards they were looking for and were trying to track down an Elka and Farfisa. He offered a free ticket for all 4 days to anyone who provides a needed synth for use by the Farfest performers."

Giant Piñata Midi Controller

"A completely unique midi-controller!

This was made completely by hand as an art installation for a gallery in Maine, and later, The Portland Children's Museum. It has a semi-removeable midi brain built into it's stomach from highlyliquid.com, and 24 piezo microphones embedded in its skin, that when hit/punched/kicked, send a midi signal to any compatible device to trigger a sound. You can think of them like hidden keyboard keys, that play a noise from your computer, synth etc. when you hit them. I want to make it very clear that this is ONLY A CONTROLLER. It doesn't make sound itself. It was built with being beat in mind and is very robust.

Fun possibilities abound with this thing!

ROUGH DIMENSIONS: 8 feet tall, 3 feet wide, and about 5 feet from nose to butt. Weighs about 70 lbs"

Make Noise DPO Dual Prismatic Oscillator Video

Make Noise DPO Dual Prismatic Oscillator. Wave forms and simple sequence. from joseph raglani on Vimeo.

Here's a demo for the Wigglers out there who demand it. The new Make Noise Dual Prismatic Oscillator.
Disclaimer: I'm functioning on about three hours restless sleep. UPS man knocked on my door surprisingly early and well... I couldn't bring myself to go back to bed.
What we have here is a quick demo showing the raw wave forms from both sections of the DPO. Then some tweaking of the knobs and the modes. Then I use the Make Noise Pressure Points/Brains combo to construct a very simple sequence. Only other modules in use are the Make Noise Optomix (Low Pass Gate) and a mixer. There is some wave folding and FM modulation going on during the sequence. I hope it's pretty self-explanatory. I will be doing a proper tutorial when I've had time to spend with the DPO and hopefully borrow a nice HD camera. Until then enjoy!

Make Noise DPO Dual Prismatic Oscillator. Slightly more involved sequence. from joseph raglani on Vimeo.

Another quick demo of the DPO densely patched this time. A lot of control coming from the Doepfer A-149 Source Of Uncertainty module. Sequence is being done by Make Noise Rene.

Same patch as the last video but I think this one sounds better.

Mutronics Mutator

via this auction

"Mutronics Mutator - MIDI, CV-Controlled, Analog, Stereo Envelope Follower, Low Pass Filter, Amp.

The Mutator is a stereo analogue filter and envelope follower with full control facilities. It contains two independent voltage controlled filters similar to those found in analogue synthesizers, which can be used to treat any external sound source. Each filter can be controlled from its own associated low frequency oscillator (LFO) and/or its own envelope follower section, which extracts the envelope contour of an input signal and applies it to control the cut-off frequency of the filter.

Each envelope follower can be switched to track either the envelope of the sound that is being treated by the filter, or that of an independent external control signal. This external control signal can be any audio source , eg. a drum sound, a guitar, a synth, a sampler output, or even a microphone. Thus the envelope characteristics of one sound can be superimposed onto the filtering contour of another.

Another switch on the envelope follower selects envelope follow mode or gate mode - in which the circuit detects whether a signal is above a certain threshold level before switching on.

In gate mode, the device can operate much like a dedicated noise gate unit, with the added capabilities of the analogue filter

The LFO's have four different sweep waveforms each and may be switched via a stereo link to produce stereo panning effects."

SOLTON PROGRAMMER 24 Drum Machine Arranger 1985 | HD DEMO

"(c) 2012 by AnalogAudio1

The Solton Programmer 24 is a programmable drum machine with 8-bit samples and integrated arranger, which uses analog sounds (bass, solo synth). It also has a polyphonic string-ensemble and polyphonic organ.

You can program your grooves with bass line and solo synth! It was produced in Italy in 1985 by Ketron. It has a tight timing, single outputs and MIDI. All you hear in this video is a Solton Programmer 24.

The Solton Programmer is heard on the Italo-Disco single "Fotonovela" from Ivan. A great little box for eighties music!"

Kraftzwerg Trance

Kraftzwerg Trance

YouTube Published on Jun 5, 2012 by chisel316

"All sounds are from the MFB Kraftzwerg semi-modular analog monophonic synthesizer. This project presented several new challenges that I never had to face using VSTs or VA synths. It was difficult keeping the synth in tune. I had to make sure I recorded all possible filter sweeps before moving on to the next sound - since it doesn't have any memory to save presets. It was a challenge creating decent sounding drums using only a 24dB low pass filter. Overall though, I had a blast! I hope you enjoy it."

seqSQUARED: The Analogue Pattern Generator

YouTube Published on May 14, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

You might remember the video from this previous post. The following is an update with some additional info via Hex Inverter:

"Technically speaking it is a user-programmable analogue switch. It allows users to plug multiple CV/Gate sequencers in (up to 4 at a time) and generate arrangements of those sequencers.

In other words, it can function on a basic level as a simple module that takes, say, 4 individual 16-step sequencers, and turns them into one seamless 64 step sequencer, much the same way any sequential switch does.

What makes it unique, however, is the fact that you get to actually program the order in which the sequencers are arranged (up to 16 sequences long can make up a pattern). You could in other words go (sequencers A to B): A, B, C, D, D, B, C, A, whatever!

Programming is done via a primarily analogue user interface (potentiometers and LEDs instead of rotary encoders and LCDs), so, while the module technically relies on a microcontroller for this programmability, it feels right at home in an analogue modular environment.

The module also includes a couple of unique features (both voltage controllable). One is that it has a built in clock divider, which selects the length of the sequence you are using. The other is a feature I call "Chaos", which is simply a random chance that on a new note, instead of playing the CV/gate from the sequencer you've programmed for it to play, it selects a random one of the sequencers you have plugged in. So, you could create some interesting musical effects by loading up 4 sequencers and CVing the chaos % chance input!

I am offering this project in:

PCB form: Includes a set of PCBs and a programmed microcontroller. Users source their own components.

Universal Kit form: No pots/jacks, etc. included -- just the logic electronics, so users can select their own format

Eurorack Kit form: Includes a beautiful 26HP panel made by Re:Synthesis and all of the necessary panel-mount components to build your own module

Eurorack Assembled Module form: One hand-assembled, fully tested module in 26HP eurorack format.

With all of these packages I offer, I encourage interested builders to look at the Bill of Materials (BOM), which details what is/is not included in all of the kits to help them decide which one is right for them. The BOM can be found at Google Docs, here, and will be updated automatically if any components change:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AvD8ZRA_UZL8dGNMdWFsQlZDdGlydmZ3NERYR2NKYnc

Once again, it is through the wonderful power of the internet that this is at all possible for me to do. Through the excellent creative project-funding site Indiegogo, I am able to securely collect preorders in order to make this project happen. As you might see, we have already met our funding goal, so this project is more than happening! It is set to begin shipping around the end of July as kits and modules are assembled for folks that have preordered!

Folks that are interested can find the Indiegogo project page here: http://igg.me"

"For auction is a rare late 70ies Eventide Clockworks H910 Harmonizer with the even more rare Keyboard.
The unit is fully functional and recently been serviced by studiorepair.de.

The previous owner did extend the Input/Outputs to Jacks on the backpanel, so this are 6.3mm Jacks.

This unit looks and works great ! Perfect for creating harmonizer sounds from Darth Vader to Chipmunks or even Guitar effects!

Ideal for vocals, guitars and horns, the Eventide H910 was invented by then-engineer, now-chief technology officer, Tony Agnello.

In 1974, Agnello conceived of a harmony processor but had little idea that he was creating a classic tool for the most successful artists of their generation.

Specty Demo (DIY Stringed Instrument) with Monome & Arc

Specty Demo (DIY Stringed Instrument) from Rodrigo Constanzo on Vimeo.

The Specty is the more compact, portable sibling of my larger Specto instrument. The original was built many years ago, and although I still love and use it today, it’s size and weight made it impractical for taking around to rehearsals/gigs. I’ve also been trying to downsize my setup as to make it easier to gig internationally. There is no way I’d be able to take the full sized Specto on a flight. The Specty on the other hand fits in a carry-on suitcase.

Software used is a program I wrote in Max/MSP called The Party Van. It is available for free download on my webpage. The controllers are a Monome, Arc, and Softstep.

"The 1st 29 seconds of this video demos how to upload a patch to the ArdCore Eurorack Module by Snazzy FX
The video is silent till 30 secs....so you dont have to turn your speakers up.

I only got this today.... finall an Arduino in Eurorack form.

An Arduino is a micro-controller ( computer chip ) which can be programmed to act as you wish. So this module has the potential to be a VCO or filter, or ADSR envelope.... they say anything you like..

It all depends on the code ...So I downloaded this bit of random code (Pretty 1a_pot) from "github" just to test it out.
https://github.com/darwingrosse/ArdCore-Code

This code turned out to be a sort of VCO (very different to your classic oscillator) ... or is it supposed to be a random audio source. ????
Anyway, it does respond to CV modulation.
I'm modulating it with the anti-oscillator from Wiard which is a radical VCO in its own right.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully this will get everyone else up and running fast.
There is no manual out as yet however these are the installation instructions

"The Freqbox is a very underrated device.

This is very simple programming, just some slight modulation of the waveshape, to an overdriven 101 LPF. Then a random sequence with most of the pots totally CCW seemed to simulate a two person morse code conversation using the Ringmod as a pitch source.

Oscs sent to a synthesiers.com VCA and to the MF 104z Delay prior to going to the board.

I think the camera's mic input is mono."
