Synthrotek 8 step CV sequencer demo

YouTube Published on Jul 15, 2012 by noisythang

"New stuff, playing with the demo unit, thanks Steve!. Neat little item, no gate output, but each steps sends a reset, which is useful with Rene. 3 CV outs, 8 CV steps, the 3 outputs have separate Range settings. Plus, semi-odd Random switch! More demos soon.
Tweaking a simple patch, with MakeNoise Maths used for envelopes. Sorry about the sound, need new video camera!"

"Hi - my demo of this awesome and quite rare analogue machine, if you remember the Roland TB303 you'll love it, I've owned it from new but hardly used. It's for sale on Ebay - Check It Out : )

"Welcome to my auction for this awesome FAT FB383 synth module - this is a fantastic TB303 clone but even more - it has a superb filter which lets you use its built filter to treat external sources / synths etc... + a variable waveform (which the Roland TB303 doesn't have). I have owned this from new, it cost me £199 but I've hardly used it (the studio work I have done over the last several years simply hasn't allowed me to really use this). Grab yourself a fantastic piece of Analogue Vintage Kit - (these are quite rare now)."

"Every aspect of it works perfectly..........the downside to this item is

1. My really bad woodwork I did, I am not the greatest working craftsman.

2. Rotary knobs are from a Roland JP8080 and do not match up......you can see a close up of the knobs and see where I painted the matching mark for programming.

3. The slider caps are also from a JP8080, but look really good and have a nicer feel than the cheap slider caps that came with it."

Synare Sensor Finger Drum Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"Up for bid here is a Synare Sensor drum trigger/synthesizer made in 1979 or thereabouts by the late, great Star Instruments Co. out of Stafford Springs, CT. It's a smaller version of the legendary Synare drum synthesizers that was designed to be screwed down onto the rim of a drum. Now it's more often used as a finger-controlled portable analog synthesizer. This thing has a ton of sonic possibilities in a very few ounces of box. And this particular box is in impeccable, sparkly, like-new condition, looks and plays great!

Physically, the front has knob controls for Tune, LFO Frequency, LFO Modulation, Decay, Oscillator Sweep, and Volume. There's also an internal trim pot you can turn to adjust the sensitivity of the unit, accessible either by opening up the case or by inserting a thin non-conductive screwdriver in the little hole between the MOD. and SWEEP knobs. On the back is a 1/4" output jack, a 1/4" footswitch in for silencing the output, and a 1/4" footswitch out for chaining the footswitch to multiple pedals. There's an easily-removable bracket on the bottom for screwing the Sensor down on the rim of your drum. Dimensions are 3" by 4" by 6.25", including the knobs and the attachment bracket, weighs about 11 ounces with the battery installed. Speaking of which, the unit runs on one 9-volt battery, included in this auction.

Sonically, I'll let a couple YouTube videos tell the story. The first one here is a fellow who's attached his Sensor to his drum rim, as Star Instruments originally intended, then run it through a looping pedal as Star Instruments originally never could have imagined:"

YouTube Uploaded by MrRitchieDrums on Jan 14, 2011

"Next one's a guy working it out on his Sensor with just his fingers for a full six minutes. (I think I even hear a bit of the Star Spangled Banner in there in the middle.) (And keep in mind he's just playing it through a simple tube amp. Imagine this going through a nice chain of effects pedals!)"

"Here's an odd video that I've done featuring both the micromac-r and the micromac-d pre factory assembly models. Instead of doing the lead synth stuff that I usually do- I let the micromac-d sample and hold itself. It's gating itself too! The micromac -r sounds almost choir like with a lot of cross mod happening from oscillator 3. And then there's the crappo analogue radio happening in the background on poor reception shortwave!"

"Here is the chance you've been waiting for! For sale is an incredible rare EMS Synthi A with DK1 keyboard, the classic vintage analog synth as used by Brian Eno, Pink Floyd and many more. This Synthi is in great cosmetic condition and fully functional. A few scruffs/sticker residue on the outside case, but the inside looks near mint and very clean. Serviced 5 years ago by the original manufacturers in the UK and barely used since. It's been very well taken care of. Includes the DK1 cricklewood keyboard which adds a whole range of possibilities and control. Also comes with the lid and complete with all the pins plus 9 extra pins, keyboard and power cable. Runs off 220-240v but step up transformer is included to use in 110v countries. Sounds incredible, I have owned many vintage synths and this one is the coolest and most unique. Amazing EMS sound you need to hear to believe, can get very raw, and with the patchpin interface it gets you to come up with sounds you'd never get otherwise. See pictures below for more details. Payment must be made by bank transfer, no paypal. Payment must be made within 24 hours. Can also potentially deliver in person to anywhere in the bay area, LA or San Diego. Don't miss out on this one in a lifetime chance to own a rare classic!"

via eBay UK
"Module comes with box, screws and ribbon cable -

analogue Tom Tom based upon MFB-503
CV-control for Decay, Tune, Pitch and Panorama parameters
Noise and Attack controls
dynamic trigger-input

The DRUM-06 module is based upon the Tom Tom circuit found in the MFB-503. The sonic possibilities have been expanded for extensive editing and modulation capacities.

DRUM-06 is meant to be used in a modular synthesis system. Therefore, most of the Tom Tom’s sound parameters, i.e. Decay, Tune, Pitch and Panorama, can be put under CV-control. This allows sound manipulation from envelope generators, LFOs, step-sequencers and many other modules.

The Tom Tom parameters in detail:
Decay sets the decay time of up to two seconds for both tonal oscillators.
Tune defines the Tom Toms’s basic pitch between 80 to 300 Hz.
Pitch controls the duration of a pitch-modulation with fixed modulation intensity.
Panorama allows stereo positioning of the Tom Tom because of its dual outputs.
Attack sets the attack sound component when a virtual drumstick hits the drumhead.
Noise adds a noise component to the sound.

Triggering of the Tom Tom is possible through various signal types. Besides analogue and digital trigger-signals, drum-pads, piezo- and dynamic microphones may be used because of variable input sensitivity. Dynamic triggering will not only affect the sound’s volume but also decay and pitch.

The module has a width of 60 mm (12 TE).

NovaDrone v1.3

YouTube Published on Jul 15, 2012 by bubagoo

"This video is of TWO linked NovaDrones WITH REVERB. I don't normally add effects to my instruments for videos but it sounds so good that I couldn't resist. I'm currently looking into methods of building reverb into future models.
This is the third iteration of the NovaDrone I have designed over the past few months. One of the main developments over the last version is the addition of a link port which lets you plug multiple units together to share power and mix the audio to a single output.
The NovaDrone is an analog sound and light synthesizer. It is completely open source and hackable. I will be selling (as of august 2012) PCBs, kits and assembled units or you can just use the plans to build your own. More info here:

Isao Tomita & Hideki Matsutake of YMO Interview on RA

via Resident Advisor where you will find the full interview. A couple of excerpts:

Isao Tomita on picking up the Moog synthesizer:

"How did you come to buy one?

Isao Tomita: At first, I had no idea where to buy it. Back in 1970, when we didn't even have a fax machine, I used a telex machine to contact people in Hong Kong. I found out that the Moog company was located in Buffalo, New York. I flew over there, and was shocked to see that the main office of a cutting-edge company like Moog was located in a simple, storage-shed-type building, in the middle of nowhere. I said to myself, "They make intricate machinery in a place like this!?"

So you went there and asked to buy the Moog III P directly. How much did it cost?

Isao Tomita: Back then, one dollar was 360 yen, and the Moog synthesizer was considered a luxury item, such as a foreign car, so the tariff rate was over 200%. It cost somewhere around 10 million yen (roughly $125,000) in today's value. Also, in those days we didn't have customs brokers like we do now, and if goods had problems clearing customs, the person importing the goods had to actually be there. So at customs, they asked me what this machine was. I told them that it was an instrument, and they didn't believe me. They said, "Then, play it." [laughs]..."

On Isao Tomita meeting Hideki Matsutake:

"And around that time you met Hideki Matsutake?

Isao Tomita: Yes. I was becoming increasingly busy around then, so I had Matsutake manage me at a music production company he was working for back then. When I started to understand which cords to connect to create the right sounds I decided I'd let some younger guys try it, so I invited Matsutake. With Moog, you have to keep the power on all day for it to work properly, so when I wasn't using it, I'd let others use it. I would use it from 8 PM to 4 AM, and then there would be a group using it from 4 AM to noon, and then another group would come in and play around with it until 8 PM.

Hideki Matsutake: I worked during the day, so I would come in and play the Moog at night, and I remember falling asleep under it. Tomita never taught us how to use the thing, so I had to learn it on my own. I've always liked playing with machines since I was a kid, so I understood the functions of the device fairly quickly, but knowing where to connect the cords to render sounds that are listenable was a completely different story..."

Endorphin.es A New Eurorack Modular Arrives

"We, Endorphin.es are a group of synth enthusiasts from Vienna/ Austria, engineering modular synthesizers for sound design and contemporary art.

The summer of love starts today, on Friday 13th.

After a few years of development we would like to announce the first eurorack module from our upcoming product series, the "Furthrrrr Generator".

You maybe know, which famous module our "Furthrrrr Generator" is inspired by. Some of you already had the opportunity to hear plenty fabulous demos by Kent in his "Complete and total teaser thread: New Dual Osc w/waveshaping".

Main features:
* 30 HP width, up to 1" in depth (super slim and therefore skiff friendly)
* All analog signal path inspired by and based on famous west coast synthesis — a module within the idea of harmonic generation based on additive synthesis theory
* 2 discrete OTA triangle-core VCOs both with hard- (resetable) and soft- (inverting) syncs. The cores are self made custom encapsulated circuits with decent results of tracking (up to 6 octaves) as well as fine temperature stability
* Selectable tracking (1 or 1.2 v/oct) by setting a jumper (we believe at last a few wigglers will appreciate that)
* Bolted potentiometers, wobble free for heavy duty
* Multi-turn frequency knobs sweep up to 10 octaves
* Oscillator tuners that simply always work
* Of course, RoHS and cat friendly smile

The harmonical section of the carrier oscillator involves a complex chain of waveshapers, crossfaders, wavefolder as well as the "Mood Index" with amplitude-, balanced-, frequency- and timbre-modulation.
Every parameter is voltage controlled, interacts with and depends on each others position. The whole scheme is a bit complex for immediate understanding. We consider the better way to understand it, is to start with forgetting about the waveforms – just explore it. Here is kind of a starmap for you to imagine the possibilities:

However – you may soon try the "Endorphin.es – Furthrrrr Generator" at some established showrooms – we will announce where and when in this thread. We aim to start selling via the established synth retailers by fall/winter 2012. Video demonstrations will be made in the close future.

A little synth trivia: the first use of Endorphin in the name of a synth as far as I am aware of was with fibra's Endorphin QUAD SID.
