Phuture - Acid Trax (highsage remake live performance 2012)

"Recorded straight off a Mackie 1202 with a Machinedrum and a 303. First time in a few years. Will be the encore track in my live hardware set this summer. This time kicked it up to 128 from 120 bpm, and spent a few hours having to (once AGAIN!) re-craft the original pattern on the 3's. I think this time around it came out even closer to the original. Bump it loud! RESPECT goes out to Pierre on this one, MUCH LOVE BRUTHA!"

By this point she had immigrated to the US and befriended Leon Theremin, who had recently developed an instrument that bore his name, the Theremin..."

Three Drum Machines and One cup (and an Amstrad Synth) july 2012

YouTube Published on Jul 17, 2012 by squidfanny

"More fun with Bolt-Bays & DIY Sequencers. This time I get to road test a newly built HR-16 Glitch Machine. . .

So what's going on here then?

Well, firstly the HR-16 Drum Machine has tentacles extended from it's bolt-bay straight into the Amstrad's bolt-bay...... Depending on hows it's patched, all manner of weird , unique and noisy sounds can be generated.
I'm using a computer to drive one of the little yellow drum synths, courtesy of an 'Engineers@work MIDI-TRIGGER converter', using a very basic drum pattern and using mute switches to cut / drop.
The MIDI-TRIGGER is also proving CLICK & RESET tracks to drive DIY sequencer in the synth, and also to Reset the DIY Sequencer in the other yellow drum machine.

The HR-16 Drum Machine also contains it's own little DIY sequencer, which is providing a tempo synced CLICK track to Drive the sequencer in the other yellow drum synth.

Finally, note the REVERSE button on the HR-16 Drum Machine....."

Synovatron's Second Module - The CVGT1

via Tone's aka Synovatron

"The new module is a Eurorack format Eurorack/Buchla translator called CVGT1. It allows Eurorack and Buchla synths to interact with each other, as the name suggest it provides a CV and a Gate/Trigger interface. Not only does it provide the correct format connectors (and adheres to the Buchla color code) but it also deals with the CV scaling and offsetting and the gate/trigger and timing pulse conversion required to allow control in both directions.

The module is in final stages of build and will need to undergo design proving tests before I release it into the world. So far the front panels are complete and all the components are in stock except for the slightly important PCBs which are due in tomorrow (18th July 2012). The intended launch date is Saturday 21st July at the Brighton Modular Meet at the University of Sussex just outside Brighton UK.

Here are some quick photos of the panels and partial assembly. I will follow up in a few days with better photos of the fully assembled module, further details and User Manual download link."

Besides converting between the three connector formats available the Format Jumbler can link four of his five channels in different ways. So you can use it as a flexible signal splitter/multiples. Channel five is not normalised and features an additional grounding banana jack instead of the second 3.5mm socket."

EDP Caterpillar controller keyboard for Wasp, Gnat, Spider

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"EDP Caterpillar controller keyboard, for Wasp and Gnat synthesizers and Spider sequencer.

The Electronic Dream Plant Wasp was a popular and affordable British-built synthesizer sold in the '80s. It featured a flat touch-sensitive keyboard which, though it made it inexpensive, also made it difficult to play. EDP's answer was the Caterpillar, a proper three-octave mechanical keyboard which could be connected to the Wasp and play it via a proprietary cable. The Caterpillar is also compatible with EDP's cut-down Gnat synth, and the Spider digital sequencer.

The Caterpillar has four EDP connectors, so it can play up to four Wasps simultaneously; either polyphonically, or randomly, or cyclically. The effect of this is stupendous - I've seen it done once, but who these days has four working Wasps? The Caterpillar also has a Hold function, and a Voice Select mode which was intended for a programmable synth which never made it to market.

The Caterpillar has a charmingly hand-made looking wooden case and is normally powered by an internal 9V battery. This one is a bit of an oddity in that it's been painted black - not in the factory I think, but by a previous owner. Certainly there's a lot of scratching to the paintwork and the original wooden finish is showing through. There's been a mod made so there's a dangling external connector for a 9V power supply - I haven't taken the back off, but I imagine it would still be possible to connect a battery.

One knob cap is missing, and the other has lost its cover, but they're easy enough to replace and the switches still seem fine.

Points to bear in mind;

1) This is purely a controller keyboard, it doesn't make any sounds. Its sockets may look like MIDI, but they're not; it will control only EDP synths, and you will have to provide the appropriate EDP cables.
2) I haven't been able to test it at all, since my Wasp died long ago. Therefore it's being sold with no guarantee of functionality of any kind, and no possibility of return. If you're interested enough to collect EDP gear, I imagine you're willing to accept the possibility that it may need service or maintenance. It certainly needs a good clean.
3) I don't have any cables or manuals - there are only two switches, so you should be able to manage without a manual if you can't find one on the net; I think Kenton Electronics can supply EDP cables.

It's not too heavy to post, but collection from St Albans is welcome."

EMS Vocoder 1000 SN 12090

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction
"Product: Vocoder 1000
Manufacturer: EMS
Release date: 1978
Country: England

This very rare EMS Vocoder 1000, from the same company that brought you the Synthi AKS and VCS3. This amazing sounding analog vocoder, perhaps the most intelligible ones out there. It has a very nice tone, and most importantly, you can hear what you're saying without having to keep changing the settings. Jean Michel Jarre, Pink Floyd plus many others in 1970-80's used them extensively, and this model was used as the sound of the robots on Battlestar Galactica and in early Dr Who episodes. The 1000 has a very similar design to the 2000; except for a few changes (they moved some of the sockets to the front panel etc). This unit is in good condition and as far as I can tell, still fully functional. I've used it for recording at home and it works great, mixed with the keyboard and mic, to give you the authentic sound of the 1970’s Vocoder.

There are not many Google entries for this Vocoder, but one of the original team that produced them was still repairing and manufacturing them in Cornwall, England up until recently. sales@ems-synthi.demon.co.uk. I have a PDF service manual that I can send on but no operating manual, but there is a Youtube clip of a Vocoder 2000 instruction demonstration available. I will send on the link if required.

I will courier this item worldwide (please ask for quotes), but I would recommend postal insurance as this will be a costly item to replace,( if you could find one). I will deliver this item up to 50 miles@45p per mile (one way) cash on arrival."

Moog Prodigy SN 5892X

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"The synth has just recently been serviced (2 weeks ago, by JB Electronics near Stanstead), there's also a sticker inside noting it was serviced in 1976! It was originally owned by a school who bought it from new, but put it in 'the back of the music cupboard' when more modern digital synths came along. I have owned it for the last ten years, and loved every minute of it.

It can produce singing string sounds, screaming sync leads, and the most monsterous bass sounds I've ever heard! This is in part due to it having the same 24 dB/octave filters at the famous Minimoog.

Later models (which included CV and Gate inputs) had slightly different filters and didn't sound quite as 'meaty'. This is one of the early pre-CV and Gate models. Serial number: 5892X (see picture)."

"Roland SH-2 Synthesiser, vintage analogue synth in great condition for age (1978-79). This is a classic monophonic unit and is an excellent sounding bit of kit which I have used in my studio for those extra bits and pieces that plugins will only ever fail to deliver in sonic terms."

Jomox Sunsyn Mk1 SN 0163

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"Here is your rare chance to own a Jomox Sunsyn Mk1 eight voice analog synthesizer. This synth is very rare, less than 200 made and you don't see them come up for sale more than a couple times a year. There is a reason for that: they sound incredible! My favorite analog synthesizer, amazing analog sound that's very unique. NOTHING sounds like a Sunsyn. The routing and modulation capabilities are great and it's all very easy to use and hands on with minimal menu diving. The RCO's are fantastic and the variable four pole filter is one of the best I've used. It can do classic analog synth sounds but with the RCO and routing it reaches into new territory. This synth is in MINT shape and fully functional. This is a V1, very late SN 016x. Being a later SN it is a bit more stable than some of the earlier ones. I have never had any bug issues with this one. This was a backup unit and lightly used in a smoke free home studio. Probably the nicest one you will ever find. This is the last one I have and I was planning to keep it. Only selling it because I have other urgent purchase needs for my studio right now. I would take this over other modern synths like the Andromeda and older stuff like Memorymoog or Prophet 5. It seriously sounds that good, a king for pads and modulation effects. Buy it now before I change my mind! See pictures below for more details. Don't miss out!" A few more pics are at the auction.

- 3 x slower CD40106 oscillators used for driving Clock inputs on other things
- 2 x 4 BIT Shift Registers (CD4015)
- 1 x 18 Stage Shift Reigster (CD4006)
- 3 x SPDT electronics switches with external control input (CD4053)
- 1 x Nick Collins / Draal modified / Me modified, with 2 inputs Pitch Tracker (CD4046)

Finally, as you'll hear in this video - pitch changes from the Lunetta 11 start warbling all over the place! :D That is thanks especially to, Nick/Draal's Pitch Tracker. I'll definitatively be building at least 1 more of these!
Note: due to problems with some of the different manufacturers of the CD4046, this one - the Texas Instruments one that Draal and I both use, DOES WORK PROPERLY. :)
