Rhodes Chroma, Roland TR 909, ARP 2600, RE-201 Space Echo

http://soundcloud.com/loganrice/sets

A few little jams that I did before I end up putting some of these up on eBay. Let me know if you have any interest as I will be adding them up within the next week or so. Check back to this video for links later.

In the first part of the video I have a 909 going through the dimension D into the space echo alone. The next part is the 909 triggering the ARP 2600 with the same beat running. This gives a small idea of some of the crazy sounds a 2600 can add to a mix (everything is pretty rough, however). Finally I did some parts with my Rhodes Chroma (which will not be for sale) and the TR 909.

Keep an eye out for the 909, dimension D, arp 2600, space echo, an an encore expressionist and a jackie profx12 - I will also be listing a roland mpg 80 and oberheim ob 3 soon"

"The latest patch from my weekly sketches. MoogerFoogers MF-107, MF-102, MF-105, CP-251 + TC Electronic Flashback. CP-251's noise into Murf (slow rate) to create ambiance, MF-107 fed its own OCS Out as audio source then fed into Ring Mod. Flashback in the FX loop of a 4-channel mixer. MF-102's Carrier Out into the mixer as well. Hope you enjoy it"

"Here's another patch. This time with MoogerFoogers MF-107, MF-102 & CP-251 + TC Electronic Flashback. I don't have a VCA, so to achieve some kind of separation between notes (as well as a short envelope), I'm using CP-215's triangle wave as audio source for the Freqbox. By turning the Drive knob, I'm able to go from mellow, whistle-like sounds, to short, percussive tones."

• Transcript follows:

MARK MOTHERSBAUGH: So sick! I mean, there are temporary touch-buttons called "DOOWAH!" What does that mean?!

JEFF E. WINNER: It was made for Motown, so we figure he was trying to relate to their vocabulary.

MM: That's great. I don't know — but it really makes you wanna hear this thing. Looks like this was some sort of a — like that was the sequencer part of it. Decay, staccato, envelopes, and chords, but there's just such a mixture of things...

STAN WARNOW: You don't really know that much about what each one of these things did? It's a mystery to all of us, I think.

MM: It's all speculation until you fire it up. Maybe Mister Entenmann... is that his name? He would probably be able to come here and say, 'Here's what they did, and I'll tell you why he bought red Krylon spray paint for this...'

SW: Yeah, he would.

JW: Raymond told this guy what he wanted, and he executed it, on this very model.

MM: That's amazing.

SW: Mitzi said he worked on it from the very beginning, until it was shipped out to Motown.

MM: They made a beautiful cabinet for it. The cabinet's kinda interesting because it's the most retro part of it, in a way.

JW: Yeah.

MM: It looks like an old telephone communications station or something.

JW: An airplane.

SW: My dad valued all that stuff, and he had a complete wood-working shop, when he had that big place…

MM: When he was really going.

JW: He seemed to like this shape, because even his big rooms full of equipment, when it filled his room, was also this same kind of angle.

MM: Yeah, like a cockpit. You're sitting right there and you're like...

JW (to MM): Here's an earlier version, and here's that digital thing you were talking about last night. But he completely rebuilt it.

MM: Look at that room, that's amazing.

JW: See these angles?

MM: That's cool! (laughs)

JW: It used to be whole walls-full, then he shrunk it down, more and more.

MM: (laughs) This one almost fit on the console of your car, you could drive your Honda around town with a...

JW: Do you happen to remember if this is all removable? Does this stuff come off? Is this the base? You don't know? Is there 'guts' in there, or is that mostly empty?

MM: Oh no, there's stuff in there. Let me see... It's pushed up against the wall right now, so we can't... but there is some things inside it.

SW: That's what I was wondering."

ECAL / University of Art and Design, Lausanne Switzerland
Bachelor Media & Interaction Design

Knot (e) is a device that offers a new way of using objects that we connect to our mobile devices. The prototypes, shown in the form of a rope, harness themselves to revisit the new node as input data. As an extension of a conventional listening device, it allows the user to generate visual and sound compositions. The intersection of the rope amplifies the signal. Conversely, the absence of knots and curves restores the application to its original position. Each prototype has its own forms, colours, atmospheres and sound effects.

During the writing of my thesis, I was led by my interest in the theories of John Maeda and Hiroshi Ishii. The former describes the idea of "tangible bytes" and proposes to reduce the separation between digital information and physical space. Inspired by the work of Ishii, one of Maeda’s theories questions the importance of simplicity of language in the human / machine interaction. This project allowed me to explore new types of interactions around a physical object. The research allowed me the opportunity to respond to a critical analysis concerning the increase of already existing technologies, through the use of simple and already perfectly ergonomic objects.

""UglyBetty" MicroMoog Serial # 5511

This was purchased recently in non-working order and just went through an extensive and total overhaul on my tech bench:

All pots & switches thoroughly cleaned and lubricated
Keyboard cleaned and leveled but not rebushed
Defective IC's, caps, transistors replaced (Oscillator, Envelope Gen, and Filter circuits)
Re-calibrated and tuned
All interface ins/outs tested per service manual specs
All surfaces inside and out cleaned up from 35 years of grime and bugs

This is a very ugly MicroMoog in used yet UN-attractive condition; Not the girl you would take to the Prom, but she has a beautiful personality. Very stable and reliable operation now.

Random Knobs are from a MiniMoog and other odd resources

Two pics of the inside below.

"If you have been waiting to find the perfect T8, this is the one you have been waiting for.

Often described as the "Rolls Royce of Analog Synths," there is nothing quite like it and it is quite a rare find, especially in this condition.
There were only a few hundred made, estimates range from 350-600. This one is Serial Number 282.

The Prophet T8 had many groundbreaking features such as 76 full-size, weighted keys, with velocity and polyphonic aftertouch. It is regarded by many as the best keyboard ever used on an analog synth. It also has a full MIDI implementation, including transmission of the velocity and aftertouch data, so it makes for a wonderful-feeling MIDI controller. Dave Smith is said to still use one as his main controller.
The sound comes from an 8-voice synth with 16 analog oscillators.

The Prophet was bought new in 1983. Everything is clean and in perfect working order. I even made sure the inside was perfectly clean, and have just serviced the Mod/Pitch wheels. Usage has been very light throughout its lifetime. It has not been played since the mid-90s, except when I fired it up this month and spent a morning playing to make sure everything works (it does!)

Everything is bone stock; software is 3.3 as it came from the factory. All the factory programs are still in memory.

Includes the original pedals (hard to find!), 3-ring bound instruction manual in perfect condition, and I can throw in some original advertising materials for free if you're interested (see pics).

Again, all the keys work, I believe all the voices work. I spent a morning playing it recently and it sounded beautiful. You will not find another T8 in such excellent condition, complete, and one-owner kept."

"This tune by Jarre is one of the most joyful tunes in the world and always makes me smile. Therefore, I picked this one as of the very few covers I performed at my mini-tour in May 2012. This video was recorded live at my show in Doo-Bop Club, Vaasa, 12th of May 2012.

The song was performed using only analog synthesizers, either played live or sequenced. The performance was recorded line in to one of the cameras. The ambience in the club was recorded using the built-in microphones on two of the remaining cameras and mixed together with the line signal.

Equipment used in this song: Arp Odyssey Mk II; Korg Polysix, Poly 61, Mono/Poly, Micro-preset M500; Roland TR-808, Juno 60, Alpha Juno 1&2; Moog Source, Touched-by-sound DRM1, Oberheim Matrix 6R, Yamaha RM1x (only for MIDI sequencing), Behringer DDX3216, Lexicon MPX500, as well as a midi patchbay and additional preamps for my mixer. Cameras: Canon HF100 (x2), HF200 and HF406.

Many thanks to Doo-Bop Club and Magnus Nordström for arranging the concert and giving me a hand with roading the equipment!

Big thanks to Heidi Väisänen for roading, assistance, support and filming the whole show!

Kommander E350

YouTube Published on Aug 2, 2012 by ISOTROPOSPHERE

"Testing out the new Koma Kommanders to control my modular synth.

Please note that Koma elektronic has mentioned that Doepfer cables are 100 percent able to utilize all four jacks on the Kommanders as the jacks are quite closely spaced together. I am only using the four cv jacks here, no gate jacks.

CV from Kommander B, if you can see the label stickers in the video, is going to the Intellijel HEXvca and controlling two channels there with cv I and cv II.

CV from Kommander A is going to the E350 Morphing Terrerium and cv I is for X/Y waves and cv II is for Z wave control.

CV for the 1 v/oct input on the E350 frequency is coming from the Flame knob recorder which turned out to be very useful as the E350 range in it's three modes is kind of narrow and all the random voltage sources I have kept pegging the range to it's high point. The knob recorder I was able to control the cv in the range and record a little cv sequence to be used here in the video.

I was surprised to see that my camera actually picks up the infrared lamps on the Kommanders and shows them as little white circles on the Kommanders. These things are FUN!!!"
