Ghetto House Music (featuring Anastasia Gera)

YouTube Published on Aug 14, 2012 by MantleSoundCore

"Ghetto House Music - This song is all analog and was created live using a Roland TR-808, TR-606, two SH-101s and a few effects, running into an old Tascam mixer, tracked straight through with no edits. Anastasia Gera's vocals were overdubbed a few months later. The video is also all analog, using an Atari C240 Video Music modded by Switched on Austin and an LZX Industries Visionary for the visual effects, running into old boomboxes and TVs over UHF broadcast channels.

How I Invented Modesty (featuring Former Friends of Young Americans)

YouTube Published on Aug 13, 2012 by MantleSoundCore

"How I Invented Modesty - A slice of poetry meets acid glitch. This song was recorded last week in one day, spontaneously capturing some vocals and faces of guests FFOYA while they were passing through on tour. The video was completed two days later with 40 hours of straight work. Korg MS-20 and Roland SH-101 contribute to the bass and leads, with the LZX Visionary supplying some of the visual effects and Mic Pistol acting as the awesome detective.

Thanks for watching!

"Arp 2601 Synthesizer (Serial Number 2601-0091) with Arp 3620 Keyboard (Serial Number 1677R). Included with the sale is an extra power cord, various mini patch cords and the Manual with different patches for the 2600. The synthesizer is fully functional except the Kenton Electronics Midi Retrofit is no longer functional. With the Kenton Electronics Midi Retrofit you are able to use the Arp 2600 with any Midi Keyboard. I think it is a simple fix but I haven't used it in a while. There is also 2 missing Caps. The controls are perfectly functional, just missing the caps. This is common with these machines. The Lids for the 3620 Keyboard and the 2601 Arp Synthesizer are a 9.5 out of 10.0 as you can view in the pictures. The condition of this synth is excellent but it is about 40 years old so it is sold with no guarantee with no returns..."

Brian Eno 1971-1977: The Man Who Fell To Earth (2011)

re-Published on Jul 10, 2012 Treble Clef

Check out his dual EMS Synthi system at 7:09. Full playlist below.

"Brian Eno is best known for his early involvement with the iconic art rock band Roxy Music, he has done collaborative work with Jon Hassell, Robert Fripp, David Byrne, Harold Budd, Cluster and John Cale among others; and extensive production duties for the likes of David Bowie, James, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Devo, Paul Simon and more. The Man Who Fell To Earth 1971-1977 details Eno's rapid ascent during the excitement of a changing music scene, when electronica was no longer feared, but accepted as a dynamic and bold assault on the senses. This film explores his life, influences and creative output, from Eno's debut with Roxy Music through to his last rock album, Before and After Science. One of the principal innovators of ambient music, his influence and artistry is beyond doubt. Fans are surely to enjoy this...

Use Audio Plugiator Tabletop Desktop Synthesizer with Original Box

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"This auction is for a Use Audio Plugiator. For those of you who do not know what this is, basically you have 8 different synthesizers in one box. Each one of those synths has 100 presets built in. Each one of those presets can be changed using the plugiator software. New sopunds can be downloaded from the plugiator mcommunity forum and installed instead of the the standard presets. Basically you can have every sound you have ever loved from classic analogue synths in one small box. It is made of metal / steel and built to last.

Installed on the plugiator are all 8 plug ins. These are all activated and all work fine. The four extra plug ins (Prodyssey, Pro-12, Fmagia and Drums 'n 'Bass) were all purchased at approx £39 each. The activation keys for all the plugins are written into the section at the back of the manual. If you ever have to reinstall them, the activation keys are all there. The Plugiator is registered to me as are the plug ins, but I will provide you with my log on details to the server so you can change the details to you and download new sounds etc.

"This is a rare and very cool lead synthesizer. The ARP DGX Pro is the second and most sought after version of their soloist series. This one has recently had all the bushings cleaned all the dust vaccumed. Even the original Aftertouch works! Sliders slide great, its nearly impossible to find one in this great of shape. This is a great ride for a real player, and was used in all the early Genesis material as well as Tangerine Dream stuff. It has 1/4" as well as XLR out. and a great Repeat function."

"This auction is for a Moog Synthesizer. It is hand numbered #1391, No instruction book, the power supply has been repaired. Also comes with a custom 6ft cord that splits the MONO channel into two separate channels. Case is in good condition without any cracks, one of the jog wheels has a light crack in it, but it doesn't affect usage. It could probably use a cleaning on the inside, but otherwise this is a fine example of this classic synth."

THE MOLECULE SYNTH Kickstarter

"The MOLECULE SYNTH is a unique, utterly new kind of musical instrument. It offers the elemental components of a traditional keyboard synthesizer — a speaker & amp, a sound generator, and a pitch controller — but presents those elements as pieces that you arrange (and rearrange!) in various combinations to create your own musical device. The MOLECULE SYNTH is designed to be intuitive to use: each of its hexagonal pieces is color-coded to indicate what that piece is and does, and each piece is marked to show how it connects to other pieces. With these building blocks, you choose how to configure your instrument, and, later, you can move the pieces and configure an entirely new instrument!"

RIP Hans R. Camenzind - Creator of the 555 Timer IC

via Designing Analog chips

"Hans Camenzind was born and raised in Switzerland and moved to the U.S. after college. He received an MSEE from Northeastern University and an MBA from the University of Santa Clara. After several years doing research in the Boston area, he moved to the West Coast to join Signetics (now Philips) and later started his own company, Interdesign. After heading it for seven years he sold Interdesign to Plessey. Since then he has been an independent design consultant in analog IC design, operating under the name Array Design in San Francisco. During his career at four different companies he designed the first integrated class D amplifier, introduced the phase-locked loop concept to ICs, invented the semicustom IC and created the 555 timer. He has designed 151 standard and custom ICs so far."

via Wikipedia: "Hans R. Camenzind (1934-2012[1]) is an electronics engineer best known for inventing the 555 timer IC in 1970.[2] He has also acquired 20 US patents,[3][4] written numerous books and technical articles,[5][6][7][8] and lectured at the University of Santa Clara.

He received an MSEE from Northeastern University and an MBA from the University of Santa Clara. After several years doing research in the Boston area, he moved to the West Coast to join Signetics[9] (acquired by Philips Semiconductors, now NXP Semiconductors) and later started his own company, Interdesign. After heading it for seven years he sold Interdesign to Ferranti. Since then he has been an independent design consultant in analog IC design.

During his career he has written three textbooks, designed the first integrated class D amplifier, introduced the phase-locked loop concept to ICs, invented the semicustom IC and created the 555 timer. He has designed 140 standard and custom ICs as of 2006.

Camenzind's latest book, Much Ado About Almost Nothing, a general audience book on the history of electronics, was published in February 2007.[10] Other books in publication include Designing Analog Chips."

The Atari Punk Console by Forrest M. Mims III consisted of two 555s. Via wikipedia: "The Atari Punk Console (commonly shortened to APC) is a popular circuit that utilizes two 555 timer ICs or a single 556 dual timer IC. The original circuit, called a "Stepped Tone Generator", was published in a Radio Shack booklet: "Engineer's Notebook: Integrated Circuit Applications" in 1980 and then in "Engineer's Mini-Notebook - 555 Circuits" by its designer, Forrest M. Mims III (Siliconcepts, 1984). It was named "Atari Punk Console" (APC) by Kaustic Machines crew because its "low-fi" sounds resemble classic Atari console games from the 1980s, with a square wave output similar to the Atari 2600. Kaustic Machines added a -4db line level output to the circuit which was originally designed to drive a small 8 ohm speaker."

Free Pussy Riot Rally Friday August 17th Edinburgh

Dean Freidman, the man that brought us the New York School of Synthesis tutorial videos will be participating in the Free Pussy Riot Rally (also see The Klirrfaktor: Free Pussy Riot!)

via Dean's newsletter:

"Hey Folks,

I'm normally a lazy, good-for-nothing, apolitical f*#k, but I've somehow become consumed, in the last few weeks, by the plight of three young women, currently facing severe jail terms in Russia for performing 30 seconds of a song critical of Russia's president Vladimir Putin. The women are members of an all-woman punk band called Pussy Riot.

If you're not familiar with the story, I urge you to google 'Pussy Riot' to learn more. Essentially, these young women are being punished by a repressive government for singing a song.

Some people think I ought to be in jail for having written 'Lucky Stars' and rhyming 'dumb' with 'glum', ;-) so, as a songwriter, the Pussy Riot trial has made a strong impression.

I suppose, also, that being here at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where the streets are teaming with artists/performers exercising their freedom of creative expression every day of their lives, the issue really hit home.

I'm participating in a Free Pussy Riot rally, tomorrow, Friday Aug. 17th at 11:00am at the Sweet Grassmarket venue, Edinburgh, immediately prior to the anticipated 'guilty' verdict to be issued by the Russian court an hour later.

If you happen to be in the Edinburgh area, you're invited to drop by. Three actors will be reading translated transcripts from the trial of the Pussy Riot women's testimony. It's very powerful stuff.

And if you're halfway around the world, give it some thought, and if it strikes a chord, you're encouraged to spread the word.

Thanks for listening and all the best,

Dean

PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS RELEASE PRESS

Edinburgh Fringe performers to participate in global day of action on behalf of feminist Russian punk band, Pussy Riot, currently on trial, facing 7 year prison sentences for singing a song critical of Russia's president, Vladimir Putin.

Fringe performers will gather at the Sweet Grassmarket this Friday 17th August at 11:00am to read trial transcripts, including testimony by Pussy Riot members, prior to the trial's announced verdict due mid-day (BST).

Pussy Riot band members were arrested, and have remained imprisoned since February, after giving an impromptu performance in Moscow's main cathedral to call for an end to Vladimir Putin's rule.

The three women - Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 23; Maria Alekhina, 24; and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 29 - who have already been in custody for five months, high-kicked and danced as they belted out their "punk prayer" in Christ the Savior Cathedral in February. The youtube video of their performance can be viewed here:

Amnesty International has called the women 'prisoners of conscience'.

The three women were charged with 'hooliganism motivated by religious hatred', which carries a maximum sentence of seven years. The trial has been seen as part of the widening government crackdown on dissent that followed Putin's election in March to a third presidential term.

'With every day an increasing number of people start to realize that if the political machine turned against girls who performed in the Christ the Savior Cathedral for 40 seconds, this means only that this political system is scared of the truth and the sincerity that we bring," Pussy Riot band-member, Tolokonnikova said in her final words, addressing a packed courtroom. "We have more freedom than all those people from the prosecution in front of me - because we can say what we want.'

Defence lawyers have invited activists around the world to show their solidarity with the band by holding a global protest on Aug. 17, the day Judge Marina Syrova is to issue her verdict.

The Sweet performance is part of a global day of action with events planned in dozens of cities around the world. The transcript reading was proposed by poet, Sasha Dugdale and playwright EV Crowe, whose program is to be performed at the same time at London's Royal Court Theatre. The verbatim testimony was translated from Russian by Sasha Dugdale, who has been monitoring live feeds of the trial. She described their words as "extraordinary, poetic, full of passion and innocence".

Director, John-David (JD) Henshaw, Venue Manager of the Sweet Grassmarket (Fringe) Venue remarked, "These three young women - some, mothers with young children - face unconscionable persecution, and severe prison sentences, for merely doing what each and every performer here at the Fringe does every single day of their lives - these women are being punished for exercising the simple basic human right of free creative expression,"

Henshaw continues, "We support them in our modest way by exercising that very same right of creative expression, and in doing so, remind ourselves how much we must always cherish the right of free expression that we enjoy in our own country. We hope for their safe return to freedom and their families, and for their undeniable right to pursue their art."

A verbatim reading of the trial transcripts will commence at the Sweet Grassmarket venue [Apex International Hotel 31-35 Grassmarket, Edinburgh EH1 2HS ] at 11:00 am prior to the Pussy Riot verdict being announced. Attendance is free. Please direct all press enquiries to Lynne Campbell: lynne@sweetvenues.com / phone: 07939-818902.
