"DOMINO is a discrete analogue synthesizer with a VCO in the tradition of MS20 and TB303. The VCO, filter & VCA are transistor made. This transistor architecture gives .:.:DOMINO.::: a unique raw sound. Rich and raw at the same time, no need of external effects to give life to the sound. The VCO offers a mix between sawtooth and square. Pulsewidth can be modulated by the LFO. The filter is a low-pass 24dB resonant filter. The analogue envelope range is from 1ms to 10s with attack, decay, sustain/release.The LFO has 8 different waveforms. On waveform 8, the modulation wheel can replace the LFO. MIDI CC 8 to 16 can transform the LFO in a sequencer to modulate pitch, pulsewidth, filter cutoff. The VCA can be modulated by a gate or by an envelope. In the legato mode, playing notes will generate glide between two notes. The glide time can be edited via MIDI CC. Additional features like a 8 steps sequencer, an arpeggiator and an accent recognition capability turns the Domino into a powerful tool

"This one has the earlier Korg 35 "noise" filter on the low pass, which gives it an extra gnarly sound. Amazing for bass, leads, effects and especially great for the external processing and running anything you want through it, drums, mics, guitars. Just got it back from servicing, got a deep cleaning inside and out, tuning/calibration along with replacing all the original caps to ensure it will be functional for years to come. Fully functional and in excellent shape. Includes original manuals."

"toying around with a self written M4L 9 step analog style microtonal (via pitch bend) step sequencer (the lower DIY controller) controlling the vermona mono lancet. the left side ft. pitch/gate/velocity controllers, while the right side is an additional parameter step-seq controlling dry/wet of a reverb. both sequencers can play forwards/backwards/back-forth and have variable pattern length. there is also swing control and interpolation between the steps of the midi parameter seq on the right.
the upper controller which controls the drums is the "sbx 16x4x3" which has its own video in youtube.

this will probably be published one day, so stay tuned."

New 2012 Optigan Discs - CHILTON TALENTMAKER FOUR-PAK #1

YouTube Published on Aug 28, 2012 by optigandotcom

"NOW TAKING PRE-ORDERS! This set will be available in a limited edition of 25 copies. We will go to press with it as soon as we have 15 pre-orders. Thanks for your patience!

In response to requests for the sounds of the Chilton Talentmaker ported to Optigan discs, we're proud to announce our first CHILTON TALENTMAKER FOUR-PAK! These are not simply direct copies of Talentmaker discs, rather we've taken the Talentmaker sounds and put them on Optigan discs, bundled them together in a single printed jacket, and are offering them at a special bundle price. Please note: unfortunately we will not be able to offer any of these titles separately from this bundle.

In this pak, you get these four classic Talentmaker titles: Hawaii 3/4, Bossa Nova, Guitar 4/4, and Cocktail Piano.

Some technical notes: Unlike the Optigan, the fate of the Talentmaker's original studio master tapes is unknown. In all likelihood, they were discarded long ago and are currently rotting away in a landfill somewhere. As such, the only way to get these sounds onto Optigan discs was to simply get the best quality recordings of the original Talentmaker discs that we could manage, and then transfer those recordings to Optigan disc format in the same way we master all of our Optigan discs. Since the Optigan master tapes have keyboard scale recordings very similar to the scales on the Talentmaker discs, we decided to use those instead of recordings from the original Talentmaker discs. But the SFX tabs and chord buttons are all directly recorded from the Talentmaker. Also, since Talentmaker discs have four chords not available on the Optigan (Ebmaj, Ebmin, true Amaj, true Emaj), a compromise had to be made in order to fit the most "useful" of these chords onto the Optigan disc format. First, we managed to keep the Ebmaj chord by putting it on the Optigan's SFX tab #5 (the Talentmaker only has four SFX tabs). We had no place to put the Ebmin chord, so that had to be discarded. Also, we decided to place the Amaj and Emaj chords on the Optigan's Amaj and Emaj buttons, though this also means sacrificing two of the Talentmaker's diminished chords. In other words, you'll get true A and E major chords, but these same chords will also appear on most of the dim chord buttons, rendering those buttons essentially useless. The only true dim chord left available is on the C/A dim buttons.

Assuming this set sells well, watch for the remaining Talentmaker titles to appear in future Four-Paks!"

Jordan Passmore Techno Demo - TR-808, MPC-60, SC-880

YouTube Published on Aug 28, 2012 by Jordan Passmore

"Jordan Passmore demo of the Roland TR-808, Akai MPC-60 and Roland SC-880. SC-880 is playing the rave patches, MPC-60 is loaded full of TR-909 samples and is also sequencing 909/synth, TR-808 is doing 808. All held together by a Garfield Nano Doc Sync/Clock adapter. All sounds are mixed live on an old Studiomaster mixing board; from there they pass through an Electra EQ, then finally into my Native Instruments Kore Audio Interface. The SCC-80 has an analog delay attached to it, which when I'm out of the shot, I'm usually messing with. I also have a Behringer Virtualizer Pro Reverb on an effects send (a bit of the 909 and SC-880 are send to this).

The MPC-60 loaded with 909 samples is pretty hard to beat for completely cutting through a mix. I personally love the 808 so of course I threw that on top as well. The SC-880 is very interesting and totally useful (multitimbral and full of many very usable effects). I found these patches on it and decided to do a short demo from there."

"The fun part is the sequencer section. The color pegs are different notes. If you take the pegs out and plug them in you can make various sequences.
The two sliders on each side control the speed and the pitch of the sequence. It can go so incredibly fast and high pitched. The only thing I can describe the sound to is Pac-Man.
Some cool things about the Muson Synthesizer..
You can see it in Devo's "My Baby Gave Me A Suprise" video. Also, it was used in some early recordings by the synth-punk band Crash Course In Science.

Also here is a demo video of it in action:" Posted here.

They were sync'd together in 16 channel Ping-Pong mode. While transposing the sequences, I'd hit the foot switch to make them both go into random mode. When transposing again, I'd hit the foot switch to bring them back to an ordered sequence."

Please note I'm not a technician at these and I have only done basic tests. I noticed a bit of noise on some of the knobs, probably could do with some simple cleaning/servicing.

An obvious issue with this is that two of the white keys are broken in half as shown. The keys are responding fine however, when you press the remaining part. Other than that, cosmetically its in reasonably nice condition as you can see from my pictures. There are some minor surface marks and wear here and there, some signs of rust on the patch bay, but nothing too major."

OP-1 Acid House Track Demo - Teenage Engineering

YouTube Published on Aug 28, 2012 by djthomaswhite

"In anticipation of the accessory event tomorrow (8/28/12) in NYC I got deep into my OP-1 on the kitchen table tonight. Everything you here aside from my voice came from the default OP-1 synth engines and drum samplers. My voice was sampled into the drum sampler. All music parts were laid down to the 4 tape tracks with a combination of live playing, endless and finger sequencers and some manual control over volume for fades.

This song is dedicated to all of those folks who think smartphones can do the same thing the OP-1 can. Maybe they can, maybe they can do more, but the OP-1 is way cooler to put in your pocket. People always ask me if it is a banana, LOL JK. Sure the OP-1 is $800, but iPhones are $600 or more if you don't sign the service agreement. It is almost the same cost and I have yet to see a smartphone with midi in/out, stereo audio in/out, fm radio, tactile keys, buttons and knobs, and a speaker this loud. It's not for everyone, sure I get it... you like free (cough...pirated) software and PC's. More power to ya folks, but I like it quirky and the if the team at TE get any quirkier we may be playing electric wind chimes with spaghetti noodles and opening and closing filters with kites and string like old benjie franklin did way back when.

This is a humble example of using the OP-1 for what it is good at... having fun with music. It's raw, it's portable, and it is super genius to play with. I speak geek and the op-1 gets that. Buy one, borrow one, or just go to your local music store. No YouTube video does this thing justice. I stand behind it all the way and look forward to sharing ideas and best practices with you at http://ohpeewon.com forums if you dare to get involved and think outside the laptop/phone/pad.

This music piece is inspired by many old house and acid house tracks, particularly Acid Thunder by Fast Eddie but my rendition is way off base from his classic take and my notes are not even the same. As recorded here it is 100% original if not a cover and the creation of me. I give myself permission to use this clip on YouTube as the owner of said recording."
