"Here is a quick demo of my Roland TR-808 and Roland Juno-60. No effects were used. They were both mixed on my mixing board and sent straight to my soundcard (Native Instruments Kore). The 808 is doing it's thing and sending a pulse to the Juno's Arp In jack. This video was done mostly to demo the Juno-60's sound while in this mode (Youtube has a suspicious lack of videos demonstrating this). I consider this to be one of the best features of the Juno. It's incredibly fast to build basslines and song structures this way. From start to about 3:40 I am kind of tweaking the 808 to get a drum pattern that feels right. From 3:40 on it is mostly improv lines on the Juno while the 808 rolls along."

An Interview with Ulrich Schnauss on Resident Advisor

"We step into the German producer's studio to chat Voyetra 8s, Hartmann Neurons and other synth arcana."

He touches on the Hartmann Neuron and it's lack of commercial success.

"There was a time when programming was considered to be part of playing synthesizer, and people were excited when new ideas of synthesis came up. Around the mid-'90s I think it switched to this trend where people just wanted to have these so called groove boxes where you can basically just bang out a quick dance track in an hour. I think that the Hartmann Neuron was one of the instruments that really suffered from that development."

The was also the case for the FIZMO in the bottom image (you can always spot the FIZMO in pics). It came out in the renaissance of virtual analog synthesis. Because it was knob laden, people expected it to be a VA. It wasn't of course. It employed Ensoniq's Transwave Synthesis engine which was their version of Wavetable synthesis.

"The Prophet 5 is a five voice polyphonic dual-oscillator synthesizer with a punchy, lush, warm sound that's great for leads, brass, sweeps and pads. The simple, well laid out control panel allows you to produce a broad range of super analogue sounds quickly and easily.

This version is a Revision 2. So, you get the great sounding original SSM chip set.

The synth is in excellent physical and 100% functional condition, having benefited from a professional service earlier in 2012 .

The solid wooden frame is in great shape. It is free of scratches and chips, with only slight wear to the rear left hand corner. The lacquer finish is still very solid and even with no sunfading.

The front panel is in good condition, clean and scratch free. The text around a few of the knobs has started to wear. Early Prophet 5s are notorious for this as the printing was easy to rub off from the black paintwork. The mod wheel panel printing has also started to rub off in places.

All knobs, buttons and switches are present, original and function correctly.

All keys are clean and aligned and contact correctly.

This is a 110v model so a small wall plug style step down transformer is included as part of the sale."

"This particular Odyssey is the Mk1 model with the 4023 filter and a white face. The unit has recently been serviced and sounds absolutely fantastic. There are a couple of cosmetic defects that can be seen in the pictures but there is nothing major and it is in great condition physically and electronically, especially for it's age.

Here is what was done in its recent servicing:

Every circuit board removed and thoroughly cleaned
All sliders cleaned and re-greased to factory specs
Expertly calibrated and re-tuned
New keyboard bushings
Keyboard contacts cleaned
Keyboard bed aligned
Power supply rebuilt
Replacement of capacitors
New slider caps (except the pink ones which are original)"

Control for the equalizer range from 31hz to 16khz at plus or minus 15db.
Overall gain and drive controls for additional strength.
The unit is working perfectly.
All controls operate smoothly with no interruption or static.
The interior shows no sign of modification or burn.
The lights on the front panel that indicate operation are functioning.
All jacks operate and appear original.
The exterior shows signs of wear.
There is some rack wear and the back of one of the mounts is cracked (see photos).
The unit switches voltage from 115 volts to 23o volts for foreign buyers.
I tested the unit with a drum machine.
The overall control was amazing.
Super useful and tons of vintage mojo."

Glorious fully functioning super fun Equalizer.

The unit operates as it should.
All knobs and pots are original, turn and show no signs of malfunction.
All switches and jack are present and working well.
The lights to show the unit is operational are also working.
The interior appears unmolested and no signs of replaced parts or burns.
The exterior is worn.
There are numerous scratches and some rack wear.
There is a crack around the AC power input.
this does not affect the working condition or structure.
The metal rack ears are sound with no cracks.
A bit of tape residue on the top.
There are numerous unoriginal screws holding the unit together.
Photos will tell it all.
I tested the unit with a drum machine.
The control was awesome and super useful.
Fantastic control over the bandwidth.
The unit also will voltage switch between 110 and 220 volts."

Ribbon has a real sound generation section with one oscillator. The sound will be triggered by the position on the 4 octaves ribbon. The ribbon serigraphy offers a chromatic scale of the 4 octaves. In this video, Paul uses his lunch break to tweak some tones in his Jupiter-80 while also doing a photo shoot for Roland."

"A test run for the iConnect midi interface using Tenori-On and TouchOSC on the iPhone to control Tinysizer.

One layer of the Tenori-On controls a bass sequence using one of Tinysizer oscillators. TouchOSC provides a virtual joystick controlling Tinysizer's second oscillator. The joystick needs more work (rescaling) because its really too sensitive at present.

Drum sounds are a custom set I made from the DrumDokta module by Din Sync. No other sound sources involved.

Best on good headphones or speakers."

AudioCubes Featured at Electro-Music Festival 2012 in New York

"The Electro-music festival 2012 has been confirmed, with acts from several electronic musicians from all over the US and Europe, such as Mark Mosher, Lux Seeker, Shivasongster, and many others.

The festival organized by electro-music.com takes place in Huguenot, New York at the Greenkill Retreat Center. Last year over 60 artists performed live at the festival, and this year's edition is expected to be even greater. The event will span 3 days in September (7-9), and alongside the musical performances, workshops, jam sessions, laptop battles will take place.

The Electro-Music festival is also called “the Woodstock of electronic music” by the Philadelphia Inquirer. It is an annual event festival organized by electro-music.com, a “cooperative community where artists and enthusiasts participate and benefit together” as they describe on electro-music.com.

One of the highlights of this event will be the live performances with Percussa AudioCubes. Electronic musicians Mark Mosher, Jeremy dePrisco aka Shivasongster, and John Morley aka Lux Seeker, will bring their AudioCubes to the festival to perform live with the cubes. In addition, Jeremy will demonstrate the AudioCubes during a workshop he's organizing about Reason 6.
