PPG WaveGenerator by Wolfgang Palm Now Available!

It has arrived: WaveGenerator - PPG - Wolfgang Palm (iTunes)

Wolfgang Palm's latest synth comes to the iPad.

"PPG WaveGenerator is the latest development from the inventor of wavetable synthesis, Wolfgang Palm. It is a next generation synthesizer, building on the heritage of the PPG Wave keyboards.

The PPG WaveGenerator comes with a multitude of wavetables. The sound material contains the typical sounds from the original PPG wave models, as well as many new sounds generated by versatile analysis tools and also hand edited waves.

This app enables the user, to create his own wavetables in a playful way, and to hear the result immediately. Also you can construct the waves by adding harmonics very precise.

Another way is to transform a picture into a wavetable. You can load photos from your album or even shoot a picture with the camera.

The waves are collected in a grid of 256 fields, to which the 3 oscillators of the synthesizer have arbitrary and independent access.

In a 3D display you get a visual impression on how the sound evolves. You can turn around the 3D object and zoom in and out,

The Parameters of the synthesizer are divided into modules, which allows easy, yet powerful editing.

It contains 3 oscillators with independent control of pitch and waveform. Each oscillator has its own glide, which gives a very dynamic sound.

With a sophisticated routing system, the diverse modulation sources can be connected to all important control points.

The keyboard is configurable totally freely, so you can setup all well-known musical scales, but also all imaginable custom scales that best fit into your music.

PPG WaveGenerator benefits all advantages of the iPad, like X/Y control after the key on event, or two finder gestures for spectrum control. After a key is hit, the tone may be modified and modulated in various ways, just by moving your finger.

A comfortable browser lets you sort the sound programs; you can categorize and rate them. Also complete custom sound banks may be created.

All significant parameters are controllable via MIDI.

There is a built in context specific help for all pages and modules.

Key Features:

•Creation of your own waves and wavetables.
•Playful sound creation simply by drawing or picking harmonics
•3D page, visualization of the wavetables, transformation from photos into wavetables.
•256 waves assembled within a wave grid
•3 Audio Oscillators
•3 Noise generators, for audio and modulations
•Classic 24 dB Lowpass Filter, combined with an overdrive simulation.

Bach Modular - The art of the Fugue - Contrapunctus 1 - preview

YouTube Published on Sep 4, 2012 by powerofthetruth (click and scroll for more)

"This is a short demo of the art of the fugue, played on YUSYNTH modular and other synths by Daniel Philipp Stotz. I am planning to record the whole art of the fugue. Here in this fugue every voice is recorded 4 times, with different sounds. The original recording is made in 96 KHz and maybe I will try to find a distribution, who is able to publish it on highest quality. More infos please refer to http://www.danielphilippstotz.info/"

This WAS a Kraftwerk Sample. Make Noise Phonogene: WTF Synthesis.

"Make Noise Phonogene and Echophon manipulating a sample from Kraftwerk's "Boing Boom Tschak". Totally insane!

Phonogene output is routed to a doepfer A-119 which extracts the gate signal and then is fed back into the ping input on a 4ms PEG, then those env outs are fed recursively into the phonogene, final out into Echophon then Intellijel Mutamix."

"It needs some work. But it does power on. All voice buttons work. All function buttons switch. One function switch needs some extra attention. It has tape over it. Listed as missing spring. I have tried to get sound from the unit. But have not been able to. The Main out jack is defective. When an amp is plugged into it for nore than a minute or two it causes the keyboard to shut down. Other outputs just output some background noise. This Moog was found with a large lot of Moog gear..."

Doepfer A-190 MCVS MIDI CV SYNC

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"These have the the advantage over the budget A-100 MIDI CV converters as they have user defined CV scaling and MIDI Start/Stop/Continue/clock, and software glide and LFO available...

[Doepfer details]
Module A-190 is a MIDI-CV/SYNC Interface, with which you can control any A-100 Module which has CV and gate/trigger input sockets by MIDI. The A-190 has two Digital-to-Analogue converters (DAC for short), which put out control voltages from 0 V to +5 V, so that you can control not just the pitch, but also another voltage-controllable parameter on the A-100. DAC 1 is 'hard-wired' to receive MIDI note messages and convert them into control voltages available at CV output socket CV 1. The DAC has 12-bit resolution, which gives excellent tuning resolution (in steps of 1/4096th). As a rule, DAC 1 will be used to control VCO pitch. DAC 2 can be assigned to your choice of MIDI controller. This DAC has 7-bit resolution (1/128th steps). Its output is available at CV 2, and can be used for voltage control of any suitable module (eg VCF, VCA, etc.). The Gate output has 0/+12V voltage level.

The A-190 also has a clock output (0/+5V level), controlled by MIDI clock. This can be divided down to provide a variety of clock outputs, and enable older sequencers or drum machines to be synced to MIDI. A Reset Output (0/+5V level) provides control of the A-160 / 161 Clock Divider / Sequencer or can produce MIDI-synchronised gates (for instance on an ADSR). MIDI START or CONTINUE messages make the voltage at the Reset output go low, and MIDI STOP messages make it go high.

In addition, the A-190 allows for portamento (glide) and pitch-bend, and provides a software LFO. These functions can all be switched on and off or altered by MIDI controllers. All control parameters can be saved in non-volatile memory."

"Strings is a collection of sampled string instruments processed through the incredible features of iZotope Iris to get a wide range of new sounds. This soundset includes synths, pads, soundscapes, drones and various effects derived from strings samples. The instruments sampled were a Tenayo AutoHarp, a Romanian Toy Harp, a Baton Rouge Soprano Ukulele, a Chinese Violin and a Squier Bass. The modulation wheel is assigned to different parameters in each patch. You can also access the original samples to make your own presets."

David Porter - The Man Behind Breaking Bad's Music & His Synths

via Wired

"Dave Porter: My goal right from the beginning of Breaking Bad was to create a soundtrack that captured the unique world of the series. I decided to avoid traditional Western orchestral instruments, but most anything else has been fair game. I employ a lot of ethnic instruments, found sounds and recordings, vintage and modern synthesizers, and a fair bit of electric guitar. All of these sounds get recorded into Pro Tools and then usually processed by plug-in programs or external processors to morph them into something new."

Fairlight CMI Series III For Auction

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"Offered for sale is a very rare, fully functional, vintage classic Fairlight CMI III computer musical instrument workstation in excellent condition. The system is a late model, in a sexy black tower case and as such has the latest and best in technical innovations, whilst still retaining the classic legendary sound of the CMI. This was my own studio system which I'm only selling as I now have a rack series III (see last picture), under the stairs rather than in the spare bedroom, which pleases my wife considerably.

The system has the latest 11.39 software (or I could install revision 9.34. They both have the same features, but the rev 11 is faster – especially given the size of the supplied libraries). It has 16 voices, colour graphics card, and 24 output router. It also comes with a 17” LCD screen. Instead of the usual 14 Mbytes RAM memory fitted as standard from the factory, this unit has a brand new 32 Mbyte card, which is the maximum possible in these systems. It also has a digital sampler module and a Turbo-SCSI card: It is therefore fully optioned with the last and best revisions of both hardware and software. The alpha-numeric keyboard which contains the graphic pad and pen is BRAND NEW AND BOXED. There is no music keyboard, however any MIDI keyboard or external computer/sequencer will work brilliantly.

The libraries supplied with this system are as follows:
Complete Fairlight library, Prosonus Strings, Brass, Percussion, Sound
Genesis strings, plus many libraries collected over the last 20 years
dealing with top producers and musicians. These include libraries from: Pet
Shop Boys, Trevor Horn, Hans Zimmer, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Art of Noise and many, many others. The complete Fairlight IIX library is also included.

An external empty 4 Gbyte hard disc, with spare system softwares can also be supplied for a minimal additional cost.

The system will be serviced, have a full set of manuals, all leads, latest firmware, and come with 3 months warranty.

Please note you’ll see other Fairlight systems advertised, and some might be less expensive. However, do some research before you buy. What may look like a bargain might not look so appealing when its obsolete parts finally give up. This applies specially to earlier systems. This system is complete, fully functional, and will work straight out of the box. I worked as product specialist and studio manager at Fairlight in Sydney during most of the 1980s, and have been involved in re-building Fairlight CMIs for over 25 years. I have sold and supported well over 45 of these classic samplers. If you are in any doubt, please type “Peter Wielk Fairlight” into the worlds favourite search engine and see what comes out.

You might be apprehensive about owning a big piece of older hardware, however the Fairlight CMIs were designed to last – no new technology comes near it for build quality. All the cards and modules of a series III are plug-in which makes servicing a breeze (which also helped push the original price up). In the unlikely event of a board failure, this can simply be swapped out for a replacement, to either repair or replace. I have a huge amount of spares, since I bought most of the factories old stock and spare parts. I also do repairs at board level, and re-manufacture parts when unavailable. I have been supporting these incredible systems for many years, and hope to continue this for many more… There’s also a vibrant Fairlight community of like-minded souls who can offer help and advice..."

akahardoff (RSS)

"Rare and historically significant drum module, with classic vintage sound, and great analogue synthesis capability. There are 4 modules, each triggered by an external trigger input (this can be a dedicated trigger voltage, or just even a simple audio trigger from a drum machine, sampler, or computer. This unit was overhauled last year and all modules are working well. There are 'preset' sounds - hihats, snares, and noise. But then these can also be overridden with synthesized sounds. Great unit, very collectible."
