Roland JV-880: New programs by Danielle

YouTube Published on Sep 6, 2012 by TheSynthFreq

"Hi! :) Here are some of my new programs for the Roland JV-880!. Every patch was initialized, then saw waves/square waves are chosen then the programming is started from all zero-set parameters. The JV-880 (1992) is very similar to the Roland D-50 (1987) with 4 partials that can be turned on or off, individually programmed. Each of the partial's parameters can be filtered in several ways. There isn't a limit to what is sent through the TVF as there is with the D-50. JV-880 is tricky to program with just one knob and 7 buttons, but its so rewarding! Although the JV is digital, the JV can be very lush if programmed with some diligence and patience as all synths require. :)

Maurice Joshua Roland Juno-106 Up for Auction?

Maurice Joshua on Wikipedia

via the listing: "This Roland Juno 106 Synthesizer is in near perfect condition. I purchased it last year from a friend who had bought it from legendary Chicago house musician Maurice Joshua (It still has his original presets.) Everything works perfectly on the synthesizer with the exception of the LFO rate slider which needs to be replaced. I am including the replacement part. The old slider still works but the knob snapped of and you have to use something like a bobby pin if you want to reach in and move the post to adjust. All oscillators function as they should, all the buttons work and don't stick, all other knobs and sliders are complete and move smoothly and without fail. All six voice chips work perfectly. All of the keys are complete and don't squeak or bind up. Comes with power cord." There's no way to verify of course.

"The main issue is the unit makes one continuous sound and none of the keys/notes trigger sound leading me to believe something ( a cable) is unplugged to the keybed itself. The keybed itself is intact and no keys are cracked or broken but the keybed is loose and angled to the the right side meaning something in the keybed is not aligned/attached properly. The keybed is loose from the bracket that holds the keybed in place..." See the bottom pic.

Buchla 100: Freq Shift Patch 01

YouTube Published on Sep 6, 2012 by djangosfire

"Getting to know the Buchla 100.

All sounds from the Buchla, aside from the Reverb (provided by the Jason R. Butcher VCRV module).

Using a 196 Phase Shifter + 111 Dual Ring Modulator + 158 Dual VCO to patch up a frequency shifter.

The random sequence comes from careful attenuation of the 165 Random Voltage Source.

The steady clock is from the 140 Timing Pulse Generator . . . and the chaotic clock comes from a 160 White Noise Source patched through the 130 Envelope Detector back into the 14"

Synare and WerkBench wake up the neighbors!

Here we are using WerkBench to make a groove using sounds from a late-1970's analog drum synth known as the Synare 3.

The Star Instruments Synare is most famous for its use on disco records as a simple 'tom-tom' sound (the first sound I play in this video). Despite its cheesy historical use, the Synare actually a beastly little analog synth with two oscillators (with noise and LFO modes respectively), a self oscilating low-pass filter, and envelopes for filter and volume. I only scratch the surface in this video.

WerkBench is a tool for crafting rhythmic loops from any source material in real-time. WerkBench is great for grabbing sounds on the fly from analog synths that lack patch memory (like the Synare, Monotron, or any modular rig).

Signal Arts Tetra MAPS III Sequencer Desktop Version with Original Box

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Tetra "Midi Analog Performance Sequencer" (Tetra MAPS) is an extremely versatile and intuitive sequencer. This thing is truly bad-ass & capable of many cool tricks and features. This is the desktop version, which Signal Arts does not produces any longer.

Specs/info about the unit:
The Tetra MAPS gives you infinite virtual tracks, modulations and multiple, real-time versions of each sequence, polyphonic sequencing, as well as four channels of CV output and computer network Open Sound Control. It has an Ethernet port for device networking Ethernet communications using Open Sound Control (OSC). You can control the Tetra MAPS and send real-time data to OSC enabled applications such as iPad TouchOSC, MAX/MSP, Lemur and more. You can also network together multiple Tetra MAPS sequencers using OSC messages.

It has analog voice control with Full-featured four channel MIDI to Control Voltage conversion (MCV) with authentic mono synth emulation with an eight finger note buffer. It also has Low/High/Last note priority as well as Volts/Octave or Volts/Hertz output scaling.

Dynamic sequence triggering with this unit moves beyond the traditional step sequencer. This Tetra MAPS sequencer can have concurrent triggering of each bank of eight sequences, with multiple virtual sequence iterations. Multiple sequences can trigger sources i.e. encoder knobs, external MIDI, & Open Sound Control (OSC signals). It has multiple modes of triggering and can make sequence steps that can overlap each other, which enables the Tetra MAPS sequencer to create polyphonic layers w/ one sequence.

Real time flexibility moves beyond a MIDI sequencer with Real time sequence track control: volume/mute, remote modulation, track patch change, meta linking, meta triggering, record. Sequence step modes: note/scale, detune, velocity, controller, step duration, note duration, slew rate.

Other features: +24,000 note memory. +Analog and MIDI sync."

"I've replaced the tubes with a pair of Eurotubes ECC83S's. The result - far less noise, a smooth, warm increase in gain and compression on the output. If your samples are really hot, you can probably get it to distort, but honestly, I think this swap makes the ESX sound FAR better than stock.

This also comes with a 32MB smartmedia card and Belkin USB card reader. You may need to try inserting the card a couple of times (in either direction, as there are no markings on the reader). It DOES work, and I used the Korg open electribe editor to great success with this."

via this auction

"Our Great Mix Six Mixers are back in Stock! (Who doesn't need more mixers in their system...)

All eight of these pots are of the pull-out variety, which include a switching mechanism to select special features.

On each of the six inputs there is a level knob that pulls to invert the incoming waveform or control voltage, (Yes, these will mix audio signals and/or control Voltages).

There is a main output with master volume knob (pulling it out enables a "Bright Switch" to add a little clarity to a mix in the high end)...

And there is a second parallel output channel with Bass Enhancement, and pulling it engages a Moog mixer type "Pop Filter" and adjustable Lag (portamento) for processing control voltages.

Unlike some mixers in our format, these knobs behave traditionally and thus are are fully-silent when turned to the familiar fully Counter-Clockwise position

You will quickly find these high-quality beauties essential tools for your music!

One week turnaround guaranteed.

"Brand New DUAL SAWTOOTH ANIMATOR Synthesizer Module in Modcan-A Series Format.

Turn the sound of one lone oscillator into seven!

(Your ear or an oscilloscope simply can't tell the difference between this module and a whole rack of seven VCOs tuned in unison!)

This amazing Bernie Hutchins circuit has been admired by Designers for years as a true electronic engineering marvel, (Of course here at Cyndustries we could not simply leave well enough alone, click here for Mark Barton's "Full Story" on what makes this one superior to previous designs).

It's optimized for a sawtooth input, but any single waveform with a slope going into this thing... comes out as a super fat three-hundred pound gorilla of waveforms!

There is even "Voltage Controlled FAT" (Imagine That!)

Many of us have spent years auditioning low pass filters on the quest for that super rich monster powerful sound, well... I believe you will find the Cynthia Sawtooth Animator to be the secret weapon that will push your sound over that crucial edge!

More than simply a chorus circuit, the Animator effects range from creamy lush sounds to totally wacked-out warbling, and as a bonus, there's a cloud of front panel outputs from the six internal LFOs that automatically track the frequency of the incoming waveform. (With two oscillators and two of these new Sawtooth Animator modules, you can spread the cloud of LFOs or bring them into focus together simply by controlling the frequencies of the two incoming oscillators).

The audio output waveforms vary from staircase waves to multiple mountain peaks and add sophistication and raw power to your music.

A slam-dunk "Must Have" Module for any synthesizer!

"It's absolutely clear that this is a world-class timbre fattener"

"Doktor Bob"

"Thank you Thank you Thank you!"

"What a Cool Module! I've tried a few "illegal" patches already--feeding it high frequency modulated triangle waves is pretty cool. Right now the thing sounds VERY much like an actual triangle! (the little metal one, not the waveform.) The other half is being used with Bruce's dual multimode to make creepy vocal noises!"

Cyndustries ZEROSCILLATOR Modcan-A Format

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"Brand New MARK II ZEROSCILLATOR All-Analog Synthesizer Module in Modcan-A Series Format.

Special Modcan Format Introductory Sale - featuring the new slim design with Surface Mount ZO Engine Card!

Only Three Advance Units Available in this Special Sale, (Watch the many Zeroscillator Videos on YouTube)!

Dr. John Chowning first described FM Synthesis technique in 1967. Since that time, no analog quadrature oscillator with through-zero capability and dynamic linear FM control has been commercially available... until now!

We are proud to announce a major breakthrough in analog VCO design, the amazing Zeroscillator.

Liquid Smooth Analog Design

The Zeroscillator is a full-featured electronic-music-quality analog VCO capable of linear frequency modulation through zero hertz and into negative frequencies. This makes it capable of the FM Synthesis stuff, wild and crazy sounds simply not available from traditional VCOs, and timbres not available from digital FM synthesizers. Of course, Zeroscillators also make insane LFOs!

Traditional FM Synthesis oscillator implementations, such as the DX-7, are sine wave only. The Zeroscillator also makes available sawtooth, reverse saw, triangle, pulse (with PWM), and a special set of four quadrature outputs capable of unique bi-phase wave morphing, (more on that later).

Look Ma'... No Aliasing!

FM sounds take on their vibrant life when the amount of modulation is varied dynamically. In the analog world, this requires a special VCA to regulate the depth of frequency modulation, (often called the "modulation index"). Since this is required almost universally for Linear FM patches, the Zeroscillator has this VCA built-in. We decided however, to take this feature one extra step beyond and provide you with a four-quadrant multiplier instead of a traditional two-quadrant VCA to expand your modulation possibilities into the unexplored. The output of this multiplier is available at the panel, so you get a free ring-mod function and an interesting pick-off point for self-modulation patches called Mod Out.

In addition to it's precision 10-turn tuning knob, the Zeroscillator has 1V/octave plus attenuated exponential inputs and can behave just like the VCOs you're used to. You are not forced into any specific modality and are free to use all or any subset of its 7 different modulations:

1-Exponential FM
2-Linear Through-Zero FM
3-Linear FM Dynamic Depth Modulation
4-Bi-Phasic Waveform Morphing in Quadrature
5-Pulse Width Modulation
6-Variable Sync (from none to hard synch)
7-Time Reversal

The through-zero capability may be switched off which bars the oscillator from reaching into the negative frequency netherworld. If the linear modulation goes negative, the oscillator simply stops, restarting when the modulation returns to positive territory. This results in another class of sounds and is also very interesting and rhythmic when used at LFO rates.
Now back to the Quadrature Outputs with Bi-phase Wave Morphing. These four outputs present the oscillator waveform at four different relative phases separated by 90 degrees (0, 90, 180, 270). If the 0 and 90 degree outputs are presented to the left and right speakers respectively, a definite stereo spread effect is obtained, and when the oscillator beats with its modulator, harmonic characteristics shift back and forth across the stereo image. This effect is unique to the Zeroscillator.

At LFO rates, the quadrature outputs can be used to control quad panning or create circular illusions. Remember, when the Zeroscillator is heavily FM'ed, the waveforms fold back on themselves and create patterns that look nothing like the waveforms on the label.

This ain't your Daddy's oscillator!
