D16 Group Announces LuSH-101 - Details and Demos

Launch the player above and read. The top two pics are what it would look like in hardware. Below is the virtual synth in software.

"LuSH-101 is a synthesizer created from modules that can be found in many modern virtual synthesizers, all combined into a single compact and logically intuitive design. However, this basic simplicity combined with its multilayer architecture turns it into an easy-to-use but extremely powerful instrument that can be programmed and tweaked quickly, almost effortlessly leveraging its maximum potential.

The multilayer architecture guarantees that both the sound design possibilities and number of unique situations in which LuSH-101 can be used are virtually limitless..."

As is a module FM oriented, I did a FM patch using another VCO as modulator, and an envelope to control de modulation index. First half is not very musical, just me playing random notes and moving knobs. In the second half I run a sequence and keep moving knobs. I dind't use a filter or any effect."

Hackme ROCKIT digital and analog hybrid synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction
"Rockit is a monophonic, digital and analog hybrid synthesizer. Rockit can make one sound at a time, but it has the capacity to make very simple sounds to very complex and dynamic sounds. Sound generation begins with digital synthesis, moves through analog amplification, analog filtering, and comes out a product of both the digital birth and the analog processing. The digital synthesis is comprised of two oscillators with independent waveform selection. These oscillators can be mixed or played independently and the second oscillator can be detuned from the first in note steps. The analog amplification stage has independent envelope controls for a complete ADSR envelope generator. Rockit’s filter section is an entirely digitally controllable analog filter, meaning all filter parameters are explicitly accessible internally, via knobs and switches, and externally, via MIDI. In addition, Rockit has two Low-Frequency Oscillators for modulating various synthesizer parameters at controllable rates and amounts.

Rockit offers 18 knobs and 8 switches for controlling both the digital synthesis and shaping the analog processing. Rockit is enabled to store and recall 16 patches, storing all knob, switch, and LED settings. Rockit also has a Drone and Loop feature that allows for independent play. For inputs and outputs, Rockit has an audio output and an audio input which routes into the analog filter. Rockit has MIDI In and Out capabilities with all settings accessible via MIDI controller channel numbers. All knob movements are transmitted to the MIDI output on the appropriate MIDI channel number.

MIDI Control Channel Numbers

Every parameter of Rockit is accessible via MIDI. The control channel numbers for Rockit software version 1.01 are listed below. If you find that these are off by 2 numbers, you may have software versino 1.00. The behavior of the knobs regarding MIDI is that if a parameter is set by MIDI, the software will ignore the position of the affected knob until that knob position is changed.

Original EMS Synthi A modular synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

Some history from the listing:

"This is one of the last 40 EMS Synthi's ever to be produced. I've spent more than a decade on the waiting list for it.

New orders are no longer being accepted as the Spartanite briefcases essential to the Synthi design are no longer available.

In other words, according to the manufacturer, this unit is among the last handful of Synthi A's ever.

This instrument was meticulously hand-built and precision-calibrated earlier this year by Robin Wood of EMS himself.

It's in absolutely perfect operational and cosmetic condition. It's also the only truly new Synthi I've ever seen on eBay.

I placed my order for this Synthi with EMS in the UK in 2001. It was finally delivered in early 2012. A few years after placing my order I got impatient and had the chance to buy an older Synthi A, so at the moment I actually have two units. The two are almost identical but the older one has more sentimental value to me, having owned & played it for almost 10 years. After long deliberation I've decided to sell this new one.

In terms of design, compared to the 70's units, the only differences I've spotted are a squarish attack button instead of a round one (the new design is an improvement over the older one, which was much harder to push down), and the fact that the label on the briefcase now reads "EMS Cornwall" instead of "EMS London" (the company moved).

The operating voltage is still switchable between 110v and 220v via a switch inside the briefcase.

In terms of sound, comparing this to my 1970's Synthi I hear no differences in sound character or response: It has all the unique sonic character that Synthi's are legendary for, while at the same time being perfectly calibrated and sounding exactly as its designer intended.

I've had the chance to try out several Synthi's over the past 15 years, and this sounds exactly like the older units, but without the inevitable scratchiness of used instruments.

This is a "MkII" Synthi A, with a matte aluminium front panel, and output rows on the pin matrix.

It also has a Prestopatch connector, the only original feature that EMS decided not to fit as standard to this last run of Synthi's, but which I had added by special request. This makes it identical to the majority of the 70's instruments. The Prestopatch connector can be used with the 3rd party expansion modules from Digitana, for example.

For those of you interested in expanding the range of the instrument further, a number of modifications (voltage controlled waveshape, sync, inverter, oscillator range switches, etc.) can be added by EMS later on. I had this done to my other Synthi a few years ago.

The Synthi comes with all the original accessories: a full set of 18 patch pins (white, red and green), the power cord, and the 90-page "Synthi Educational Handbook" manual. Comes in original, incredibly sturdy, packaging as well..."

Dirty Carter Hardwire Mod by A.S.M.O.

"The Dirty Carter Electronic Sound Generating Instrument was designed by John Richards (Dirty Electronics) and Chris Carter from legendary Industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle. It was produced for a special performance by Carter and the 25 strong Dirty Electronics Ensemble in 2010. It was originally designed as a touch controlled instrument with the player's skin resistance completing the circuit. This hard wired modification by A.S.M.O. gives more control and predictability by wiring all to the touch contacts to pots and switches. An additional low pass resonant filter has been added, LFO and an external CV socket for filter modulation. The case is made of stained ply and the front panel is covered with black leatherette."

Audiobus Inter-App Audio on iOS Approved

via Audiobus on Facebook

"This morning, Apple finished reviewing the first version of Audiobus, and it has been approved.

We’ve been working with a small group of third party developers that we already have a close connection with because we want to make sure that those apps can serve as examples for all the other developers (currently more than 400) for how to implement Audiobus.

Once our initial community of developers have finished the Audiobus integration, we’ll be all launching together and opening up the SDK to the public."

For those not familiar with Audiobus, this will now allow the audio of one app to be process by another. You will be able to process your iOS synths with other synths and effects. Until now you could only run them in parallel and you could only sync or control them via virtual MIDI. Audiobus will bridge the final gap.

"Providing complete realtime and hands on control of all the parameters of Ensoniq's ESQ-1 and ESQm synths this controller provides the complete synthesis experience. Bringing the control and user interface of a monster analog synth to the ESQ synths with their modern synth features like memory, polyphony, and stable tuning delivers a throughly powerful and useable synth.

For those of you not familliar with the ESQ synths they are an analog synth with digital sampled oscillators, there are:

3x Oscillators per voice, 32 waveforms, sync and ampltude modulation between oscillators 1 and 2
4x Envelope generators per voice, 5 point with velocity sensitivity and keyboard scaling
3x LFO's per voice, each with integral ramp generators and 4 waveforms
1x 24dB/octave analog low pass filter per voice with resonance

This was a hugely expensive device (those oak end panels didnt help) and after much interest from people wanting to own one I would like to make it clear this is a one off device and will not be manufactured."

Just got this klee sequencer......

YouTube Published on Sep 12, 2012 by brandonrsmith23

"So yeah Got this Klee sequencer back from todd fletcher - I'd built the boards up and gotten all the parts together, but then got to the wiring and chickened out - so much soldering! So Todd did that dirty work and sent it back all calibrated and ready to roll. It's a biggy, kind of huge footprint for my system, a machinedrum is beckoning (again), and thus it is listed. But man, this is a very cool gadget and I kind of hope it doesn't sell and forces me to look at expanding rig size, which I'd kind of not wanted to do. (So why build a klee. I know.) Anyway, neato thing, check it out, first night I've gotten to get hands on with it and I only understand a fraction of what goes where and how, but very fun anyway. We'll see."
