The Music of Richard Lainhart Coming to Tokyo & a New Release

October 13 & October 16, 2012 – Tokyo, Japan

Ambient Dream: The Music of Richard Lainhart

"If you are in Japan or know of anyone who will be in Toyko October 13 or 16, please pass this along. Thanks! — Caroline Meyers (Richard Lainhart's wife)

Richard Lainhart (1953-2011) was one of the seminal figures in contemporary American electronic music, composing more than 150 works over the course of nearly four decades. His distinctive sound was characterized by organic textures inspired by natural phenomena, such as clouds, water and fire, typically arranged in minimalist structures and treated with microscopically observed harmonies. The "listening" concerts October 13 and 16 are retrospectives of his music and a preview of an upcoming vinyl LP scheduled for release December 2012.

For more about Richard and the legacy of his music visit

or email Caroline Meyers cmeyers@otownmedia.com"

Update: you can also track updates at Richard Lainhart Music and Films on Facebook.  Be sure to like the page.

And a new release available at Vicmod Records:

"The Course of the River, a vintage electronic music work by the late synthesist Richard Lainhart is now available.

It includes two parts:

A River on a Cold Mountain 14:21
The Course of the River 31:48

The music was created in 1975 on the Moog CEMS System at SUNY Albany Electronic Music Studio. All proceeds from the album will go to the Lainhart Family."

Click here for full details on the release. Excerpt regarding the CEMS:

"The pieces on 'The Course of the River' were both recorded in the State University of New York at Albany's Electronic Music Studio in 1975, using the Moog CEMS (Coordinated Electronic Music Studio) System developed by my composition teacher Joel Chadabe. Joel worked closely with Bob Moog in developing the CEMS, and Moog developed many custom modules for the system, which at the time may have been the largest integrated Moog synthesizer in the world.

The CEMS System contained an extended array of sound generating and processing modules as well as a unique programming system consisting of an automated matrix mixer, a digital master clock, and a bank of eight analog sequencers with customized logic hardware for running them together, independently, in succession, or in any combination of those modes..."

"Moog Source Analog Synthesizer from 1981 in good mechanical and cosmetic condition. The Source has been used on countless albums. It has an enormous tone that is expressive, rich and vividly alive. This synthesizer extremely versatile as it has an onboard sequencer and arpeggiator as well as the very useful sample and hold feature. This is simply one of the best synthesizers for bass ever created and is extremely close in sound to the notorious Minimoog..."

Rheyne - 10/1/12 - Live Jam #55 (with the MF3D Launcher)

Published on Oct 1, 2012 by RheyneMusic

"A live looping improv jam using the 'MF3D Launcher' created by Tomash Ghzegovsky for the DJ TechTools MIDI Fighter 3D, basically turning the MF3D into an Ableton Live control surface with instantaneous response. Details are at DJTT's website: http://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/664

SoundPrism Pro is wirelessly sending MIDI to an instance of NI's Massive. Animoog is sending and receiving MIDI through an iConnectMIDI. Lemur is wirelessly controlling filters and effects in Ableton Live. Also used is a DSI MoPho keyboard, and an Akai MPD26 controlling NI's Kontakt. All audio is passed through a PreSonus 1818VSL connected to a Macbook Pro running Ableton Live.

Special thanks to Tomash for creating a unique version of this template which turns the clip launch page into a 4x4 grid. I've re-colored the last bank of buttons to four vertical rows to match my own mapping for Ableton's loopers."

"This is a really nice 1979 Vintage Oncor Sound LGS Touch 6000 Guitar Synthesizer. This was one of the first of it's kind ever made, notice the low serial number~000158. Everything works fine, we had a lot of fun testing this out, all those knobs and switches make for endless tone combinations. All features work perfectly just as they should... There's a slight learning curve if you've never played a guitar synth. You touch the notes like fretting a regular guitar. You can pluck the strings or simply touch the round brass sensors at the end of the fretboard (please see Image 16) to sound the notes." [bottom pic below]

"Alright boys and girl. :) This extremely odd audio video, were inspired by Master Modular Builder Dmitri over on Faceboob, posting a video of a bassdrum with him manipulating to a completely bizarre patch on his DIY'd Serge modular. So I went off to make something just as if not oddER, myself and here it be. :)
The first 8 minutes I'm saying what modules I'm using and the next 8 minutes is mostly bizarre knob twisting and grooving to something out of some severe acid laced PCP trip or something. :D
I hope you believe it to be as odd and twisted as I do. :D"

"Corsynth C103 Frequency Divider / Multiplier - Basic Demo

The C103 Frequency Multiplier / Divider includes two frequency dividers and two frequency multipliers, that generates four new signals which frequencies are one / two octaves higher / lower than the original signal.

The module includes a built-in three channel mixer with to inputs per channel. The first channel makes possible to the user to select between the original signal from the divider and from the multiplier. In the second channel the user can choose between the signal divided or multiplied by two. In the third channel the options are, the signal divided or multiplied by four. With this set-up up to eight different mixer options are possible which creates a wide range of sonic possibilities.

"This is a great opportunity to get hold of a unique, rare and classic British Synth.
Cosmetically very clean, this superb synth is Version M2 (MIDI) with sounds that will inspire musicians, synth freaks and sound designers alike!
The synth has recently been beautifully overhauled by James Walker at Synth Repair Services with the replacement of various components including:

1 New OSCar Midi OS EPROM Ver OM2a
1 New Back up Battery
1 New Mains Plug
28 New Pots
1 New Power Supply Parts( regulators and Capacitors)
1 New 40 Way DIL Socket
1 New 40 Way Component Header
1 New 24 Way Component Header
1 New 24 Way DIL Socket
2 New Knob Caps

A fairly comprehensive overhaul I'm sure you'll agree, giving the synth as pretty 'clean a bill of health' as is possible, (receipt available on request). All it needs now is a good home!"

"This auction is for an incredible rare vintage (1970's) Steiner Parker Analog Synthesizer Module in good condition. I believe these were used in guitar synthesis back in the 70s, but they could be used for any modular synthesizer purpose. They have 1/8" mini jacks, like ARP or DOEPFER synths but easy to adapt to 1/4" etc. Simple but powerful features. Oscillator, Filter, Envelope Gen, LFO included. There is a 6-way Cinch Jones jack on it - but I do not know why, as we have no manual for this. It has not been tested. It also has an AC cord, two prong plug, attached..."

Raspberry Pi running Pure Data w/ DR-OM patch from Shawn Greenlee on Vimeo.

"Video from my first session with the Raspberry Pi running Pure Data. I'm running Pd 0.44 (test version) with "-nogui -noadc -alsa" flags + a budget USB audio device, and a Novation ReMOTE ZeroSL as the midi device. Raspberry Pi OS is Raspbian “wheezy.” Note, I'm running from the command line, not from inside the X window system (performance with GUI seems more likely to glitch, at least with my first tests). I did not try headphone jack for audio given initial reports were not good (and presently I'm unable to test HDMI audio).

Pd 0.44 here: http://pure-data.git.sourceforge.net/git/gitweb-index.cgi

I used notes from Miller Puckette sent to the Pd-list (check September 8 & 9, 2012) and some info. from http://log.liminastudio.com/programming/running-puredata-on-the-raspberry-pi to get things going.
