"Time Synthis" a tour inside the Ensoniq SQ-80 Hidden Waves

Published on Oct 5, 2012 by Jack Girouard

"An electronic piece called 'Time Synthis' explores some of the hidden waves of the SQ-80 "Cross Wave Synthesizer". Photo slide show of pictures I took showing the steps of the upgrade as well as other shots inside and outside. This is a very special synthesizer, super clean inside too! (its not for sale).

I bought this synth from an ebay member: thomasb93. I don't want to give a source away, but he does a great job refurbing synths! I found this one, and was well worth it!
Here is a description of what he did with this SQ-80: "All buttons, wheels, faders, keys and disk drive work as they should. It has a new 3V lithium installed. The power supply passes the correct voltage at all test points and the CEM 3360 analog filter sounds great. This synth also features polyphonic aftertouch. The insides of the synth look new and the key contacts, foam pads and keyboard pcb look new as well." I feel proud to own this well cared for instrument! Thanks Tom!

This is an improvisation done on two tracks, all SQ-80 with a Lexicon MX-300 doing some effect processing. Note: these are patches I've created, the upgrade to 1.8HW doesn't give you a new set of patches, it just gives you 52 more wave types that can be used for the three oscillators. They simply add to the list of waveforms simply as numbers 75-127. The patches used in this video used hidden waveforms 78, 79, 80, 82, ."

Paia 9700 modular synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The PAiA 9700 Series takes a decidedly high level, systems approach to Synthesizer Module design. Rather than individual elements such as a single VCO, VCA or Envelope Generator, each PAiA module combines multiple elements and a powerful patch-over hardwired normaling scheme behind a single compact panel. Common synth voices can be realized with few patch cords but elements can also be accessed individually for maximum versatility in creating complex, unique timbres. A lot of synth power gets packed into a small space at a low cost. Even a "small" system of only four modules, such as the P9700S, provides the sound generating power of as many as 15 conventional modules, including:

2 VCOs
2 VCFs
2 VCAs
1 Balanced Modulator
1 Noise source
2 AR Envelope Generators
1 ADSR Envelope Generator
MIDI to CV Converter
Glide Processor
CV Scale/Offset Processor
Power Supply

System level design also improves performance and lowers cost. Local voltage regulation and Star grounding on and between modules means a low noise floor and no parasitic modulations or interactions such as oscillator locking. Distributing costs like circuit boards, panels and power connectors across multiple elements dramatically lowers per element cost.

All modules are scaled for 1Volt/octave Control Voltages with standard 100k ohm input impedance. Nominal signal level is approximately +10dB. Modules are designed for ±18V. unregulated bipolar power but ±15V. regulated supplies can also be used.

FracRak accessory kits have heavy duty 1/8" black anodized and screen printed aluminum panels that are 2U high (5-1/4") and provide 1/8" phone jacks for patching. "

Impaktor Drum Synthesizer app for iPhone & iPad with Drum Sticks! - Demo and Looping Jam

YouTube Published on Oct 3, 2012 by iOSMusician5

"Impaktor for iPhone and iPad (universal app) is a drum synthesizer that you trigger with your device's built in microphone. The app is EXTREMELY accurate in perceiving the volume (velocity) of the notes you play, and even can trigger different tones from the synth with different sounds. "The real acoustical impulses from the built-in microphone are used as an excitation source for advanced sound modules that simulates behavior of membranes, cymbals, metallophones or strings. This makes Impaktor a highly responsive and expressive instrument."

TANSU Modular Synth for iOS

TANSU Synth DEMO

TANSU Synth - MUSIC AIRPORT.INC

iPod Touch on eBay

The iOS application - which is named "TANSU (dresser)", is a miniature
version of a Modular Analog Synthesizer. This synthesizer is the same as the
one used and mastered by Hideki Matsutake of LOGIC SYSTEM.

The sounds that were sampled and used for the VCO (Voltage Controlled
Oscillator) come directly from the actual "TANSU" owned by Hideki Matsutake
himself.
In addition, it also contains many original LOGIC SYSTEM recordings. The
application condenses the fun, experience and sound of an actual modular
synthesizer onto the small screen of an iPhone!!

What will the sound be like when using the application? This application is
focused on providing the user with the feeling and excitement of using the
actual synthesizer for which it is based.

Not only for a techno fan, but for any music lover!! Feel what it is like to
create your own music!!
Try this application to experience the "the birth of sound and music."

The main functions

■LOGIC BOX
Sound effects such as Shepard Tone and rhythms from music by LOGIC SYSTEM
have been made directly into the sound source.

■MUSIC
You can use your iPhones own music library as a sound source. (However,
certain tracks which are covered under DRM may not be used).

■Microphone function
You can use sounds which have been recorded with microphone.

■Preset function
You can explore the potential of the TANSU Synth from various demo patterns.
Moreover, it can be utilized as a tutorial for beginners.

■VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillator), VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter), VCA
(Voltage Controlled Amplifier), LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator), EG (Envelope
Generator)

Enhance the basic functionality of an analog synthesizer. (Various sound
processing is possible.)

■It has an 2 channel 8 step analog sequencer!

(We are planning to add a function for converting to a 1 channel 16 step
sequencer)

■You can enjoy connecting and reconnecting the patch cord to creat sounds
just as with a real synthesizer.

■Three sound sources can be mixed by a three-channel mixer!

support:iPhone4S, iPhone5, iPad(Over iOS5.0)

"Moog" Minimoog Donnimoog Synthesizer with Original Box

via this auction

"Here it is, one of the weirdest episodes in synthesizer history. Just Google Donnimoog and you'll get some interesting stories. I met Don Martin a couple times in the 1990's, but I didn't get this directly from him. I was browsing the old Dr. Sound store in NYC when they had just gotten this piece in the door. Believe it or not, it's a good sounding synth. Doesn't sound exactly like an old Minimoog Model D, perhaps because of the age of the components or if there were some design changes. There's probably a thread on some forum about the specifics. To my ears it sounds more like an original Minimoog than the Voyager/Phatty, but it's purely subjective. Other than the slightly different colors of the rocker switches, it's a visual doppelganger. Serial Number 13285, so I guess he picked up where the real ones left off. We actually used it in the studio for a while, but it's been in the closet in the original box for at least 10 years now. Still looks brand new. Spock with a beard."  See the donimoog label at the bottom of this post for more.

Condition: This Korg has some cosmetic wear, but plays great and is full of warm, awesome analog goodness. It is in working condition . VCOs work great independently or together. Envelope generator works fine. All keys are smooth and stick free. Some of the keys have some dings and scratches, but this does not affect playabillity. The panels on the sides of the keyboard are made of wood and have some dings and marks. All the pots are in great shape, and work perfectly. This Korg will provide endless hours of fun to the tweaker inside us all. It is full of amazing sounds perfect for any type of music..."

"Heres the first video of the research I'm doing at STEIM in Amsterdam. this is a simple analog synthesizer which can be patched and modified using a breadboard interface. The visuals are made by setting my oscilloscope to XY plot mode. The X axis is a triangle wave. The Y axis is a ring modulated signal between the same triangle wave and another triangle wave. There are 5 oscillators total which are all inter-modulated. There's also a sample&hold in the mix which gives the visuals a stepped appearance which you can see once in a while."
