Euro bow interface prototype

Euro bow interface prototype from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"Hollow laser cut MDF enclosure, with a guitar string pulled across two zither pins and a contact mic underneath (connected to the front jack).

Bow is homemade, too (2x4 + horsehair).

Pressure Points and the Wogglebug's Stepped Out (triggered by the Pressure Points) are controlling the frequency and modulation index on the DPO, as well as the pitch shift on the Echophon and opening a QMMG low pass gate channel.

An Interview Tim Blake by Astronauta Pinguim

Timothy Blake of Gong and Hawkwind.  Check out his double EMS Synthi system and Moog System 55.  On his relationship with EMS:

"My EMS relations were mostly with Robin Woob (now the owner) and the technical people, Graham Wood, Graham Hinton, with whom most of the unique modifications to my set-up were designed.

I've met Zinovieff, of course, but not Cockerell or Cary. Peter seemed to look down on those who played the EMS synths, regarding them as toys he sold to finance his huge computer music studio. I have never heard a note of his music!!

I believe I once impressed Peter at an EMS lunch, by enjoying his Cheese with very hottest oh his home-made chutneys!! Strange stuff, Electronic musicians!"

"Skrillex - First of The Year "Circuit Bent Dubstep Caterpillar" Remix !

Ok, before everyone goes off on I like or dislike Skrillex debate like they do on ALL youtube videos.... please realize that this particular piece really has a thing for dubstep and I couldn't think of anyone better to remix with him than Skrillex. That's it, nothing more... nothing less.

There are two kinds of music... good music and bad music, it's up to the listener to decide. This piece is cool... this entire video was done without even using the alphabet speaking features of the circuit bent caterpillar. I might even have to do another version with more features of the piece going. BUT anyway... there is NO AUTOTUNE, this is just a live recording of the piece edited into the Skrillex video.

I will probably put the Caterpillar up for sale on eBay pretty soon.. stay tune for more videos and weird Dr. Blankenstein creations. Thanks for watching :)"

Simmons SDSV (SDS5) classic analogue drum synth brain

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"This is the sound generating 'brain' of the Simmons drum synth system, famous for its punchy synthetic sounds (think 'Eastenders theme') and appearance on many '80s hits. The Simmons brain was usually triggered by the famous Simmons hexagonal pads, but it can be played by many types of acoustic trigger, by synthesizer voltage pulses, or it can be modified to work with MIDI (see the Kenton electronics website).

This system consists of a case/power supply, mixer unit, and five modules, bass (kick), snare, and three toms, tuned high, mid and low. All five modules have four settings; a factory preset sound, a manual setting with controls for pitch, decay and so on, and two programmable settings adjusted using mini-pots.

The case is also fitted with two Simmons blanking plates for the two empty slots.

There are none of the optional fittings such as an external case or rack ears, and no mains lead.

The good news; all five audio modules have been tested in another system, and work well.

The bad news; the power supply doesn't work. It's a 110V system, but because it's fitted with a Europlug socket, I think it has been plugged into 240V mains and has blown..."

Korg Lambda ES50 Vintage Analogue String Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Lambda ES50 is a vintage (1979 / 1980) poly-ensemble type synthesizer with slightly editable preset orchestral sounds. It is divided into two sections: The Percussion set includes preset pianos, clavis and harmonics; The Ensemble section has presets for brass, strings, organ and choruses. Filter and envelope controls affect the different instruments individually. The Lambda has 96 discrete envelopes and VCAs - two for each key - a very unusual design. There are also vibrato and chorus effects.

The Percussion group and Ensemble group each have their own separate volume contols and with the MS -01 controller foot pedal (also included), these can be blended during play as required. A joystick is proveded left of the keyboard for simultaneous control of pitch bends and chorus phase speed.

The String sounds are the nicest sounds this synth can create. With three oscillators you can vary and detune them enough to get a nice layered analog string. The piano sounds on their own are limited but they do add 'attack' to the blend of sounds as required. The Lambda is cased in a lovely polished wood that gives it that authentically vintage status. I have built a flight case (included) which has kept the original woodwork in very good condition except for two small chips on the front edge.

- Flight case included

- MS - 01 Expression pedal pedal included with its original manual

- Original sustain pedal included (it's working although this has had some DIY repairs over the years)

- Stereo and mono audio outputs with headphone socket

- On-board Tremolo and Vibrato effects

- The woodwork is original and in good condition except for two small chips on the front edge."

RIP Pete Namlook

Ambient and electronic music producer, composer and founder of the German record label, FAX +49-69/450464 has passed away at the age of 52.  Below you'll find a track he composed with Ludwig Rehberg (E.M.S.) and an interview.  He worked with a Moog modular, pictured, and of course plenty of other synths.  Update: In 2008 he ordered two custom "Blue Meanie" MacBeth M5Ns. Subtractor Meets Creamware ASB

This of course is just a render. I spotted it on Tommy Welsch of Anyware Instruments Facebook feed. What immediately came to mind was a Creamware ASB desktop synth. It's too bad they are gone.  It would have been interesting to see what else they could have come up with.  The Creamware Minimax and Prodyssey ASB boxes are known for sounding incredibly close to the originals and in turn, very, very good.   They also added polyphony, which made them the closest things you could get to a polyphonic Minimoog and ARP Odyssey.
When Creamware folded, Sonic Core and Use Audio were formed. Sonic Core still produces the Scope Platform which features the Minimax and Prodyssey software emulations and well as others. Use Audio released the models in their plugiator desktop hardware synth. Sonic Core also worked with John Bowen Synth Design on the Solaris.

Subtractor of course is part of Propellerhead's Reason.

Gestrument Demo

Published on Nov 15, 2012 by Apps4idevicesMusic

http://www.apps4idevices.com/read/gestrument

"Wahou...!!! I love, love Gestrument! Because you can create a symphonic arrangement with one finger! 128 instruments are available in the built in library (with great sound quality). 8 instruments can play at the same time. Move your finger on the dedicated area to play notes. In the Edit window you can set 2 scales and morph between them by using a second finger on the Pad window. With your second finger you can also change the Pitch, the Rhythm (you can also set the rhythm so the notes play in the Edit window), the Dynamics and the Pulse (Density). You can also control an external Synthesizer with Gestrument. The only drawbacks are that you can't record your Performances (so share them) or import a Backing track. Note that it is only the v1.0 of Gestrument and perhaps that in a future update these features will be added... As I said at the start of this review, I really, really love Gestrument, for its originality, for it's sound quality and I'm sure I'll use it for my personal projects... So, despite what it lacks I rate it as a Killer App"

Published on Nov 15, 2012 by TheAnalogLab

"A Yamaha SY20 that was recently repaired by The Analog Lab in NYC.

The Yamaha SY20 is an analog mono synth that came out in 1982 AFTER Yamaha released the DX7. It is a surprisingly complex and expressive synth. The SY20 is incredibly rare. It was originally intended to be an "educational" synth for use in learning synthesis. It even has a transposition knob with all 12 notes in the chromatic scale that allows you to transpose up to one octave. This allows you to play the same thing in a different key and not worry about transposing. And the filter sounds awesome. Features include:

The Frostwave Resonator itself has now become a classic and is highly sought after. It is no longer made and hasn't been in production for a few years. This amazing filter will only appreciate in value over the coming years.

This will fit perfectly into an analogue synth setup. If you are a guitarist, you can use it as an FX pedal but you'll need to manually sweep the controls or attach a CV pedal to one of the CV inputs to get a lovely analogue sweep.

If you have a modular synth or are just looking to expand your Moog Voyager for instance, this filter will give your synth that unmistakable sound of the Korg. It features 4 CV control inputs at the back as well as the audio input and output jacks. It comes with an Australian power adapter."
