Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot TT-303 Hardware TB-303 Clone Released

Update 11/28: Update on the price:

UK: £449.00 + VAT
EU: €549.00 + VAT
US: $699.99 + VAT

Update: additional pics & PDF via Lorne/kidtronic via Rhythm Active.

Remember the Bass Bot TT-303 demo videos posted here back on October 18?   Well, it is currently available as of today, and it is the first product from a new company named Cyclone Analogic based in Hong Kong (possible sites not yet live: http://www.cyclone-analogic.com | http://www.tt-303.com).  You will find full details on the TT-303 further below.

Before we get to that, Robin Whittle, who brought us the Devilfish Mods for the original TB-303, will be performing them for the TT-303 as well. You can find details on his page here.

Lorne aka kidtronic wrote in to let us know Rhythm Active in Australia, one of our sponsors, currently has the TT-303 available. I also hear Syntaur in the US has them for $649.95 $699.95 plus $14.95 shipping to the lower 48.  Syntaur adds the following details: "There is a nicely-done printed manual - on real paper, with ink! Just like back in the analog days of yore... Also a power adapter, and a MIDI break-out cable. (The TT-303 has a single 8-pin MIDI jack. A standard 5-pin cable can be used for MIDI In only, and the break-out cable - 8-pin jack to two 5-pin cables - can be used for MIDI In and Out.)" Update 11/28: Modular Square in France (one of our sponsors) will have them in stock soon (via Twitter).

The following details are via Superior Sound London, who currently shows them as being sold out in the UK:

"The Bass Bot TT 303 electronic bass synth features a selectable monophonic analog VCO processed through a 4 pole analog cascading filter. It uses 21st-century transistor technology to synthesize tones from super-crisp self-resonating leads to squelchy rhythms and deep subharmonic bass grooves.

Creating music as simple or complex as you want with the Bass Bot is a breeze. Its ground-breaking InstaDJ OS is an artificially intelligent sequencer and can be programmed in two methods: by a human user or by the computer-controlled Bass Bot.

Humans may program musical patterns manually using traditional step entry with control over pitch, time, length and special characteristics such as octave transpose, accent and slide for each note.

Alternatively let the Bot generate a pattern and use it immediately, tweak it to taste, or mutate it into a new pattern altogether at the touch of a button. The Bass Bot TT 303 includes seven different ‘personalities’ each of which generates its own special style of musical patterns. No two Bots will produce the same patterns. Each is as individual as the user, though the basic personalities are the same for every Bass Bot.

The Bass Bot TT 303 features seven unique preset personality programs, capable to generate up to 224 computer generated presets by the Bass Bot ™.

An additional 224 Editable Patterns can compose up to 7 songs of up to 127 bars. All information is saved to onboard flash (permanent) memory and transferable directly to other Bass Bots via 8 Pin DIN cable (cloning) or to PC / MAC (backup) for storage with a downloadable transfer application available on our website. Other platforms to be supported soon.

Vacoloco Working on Aurora - New Polyphonic Hardware Synth

via Vacoloco

"So, What is Aurora?

Well, my band (Her Dark Embrace) recently went into the recording studio to record our EP. The Engineer was very into electronics and synths and we had some great chats. He asked the question “So, you play keyboards and you build synths, so why don’t you use your own?” Really good question I thought, I replied “Everything I play is chords/pads and I’ve only built monosynths, I’ve never built a polysynth.” to which he asked “why not?“, I had no answer.

So I thought about it and I’d had the basics of a monosynth design on the drawing board so to speak, so whilst on holiday I finished the design and when I returned ordered some PCBs

Over the last month I’ve begun building a single voice board, first an oscillator, then I ported the code from the oscillator chip in Zira and modified the code, so I have two oscillators with 56 waveforms a piece, with hard sync and adjustable mix..."

Mono synths on a single board stacked for polyphony much like the vintage synths of yore. The Oberheim OB series come to mind. Very, very cool.

A Few PTG Envelope Patches.mp4

Published on Nov 27, 2012 by SteadyStateFate
"A few PTG envelope patches.
First patch uses the PTG as a VCA that feeds the DMF-2 Filter. The inveretd VCA signal is then used to modulate the filter to create the metallic ZONG!
The rest of the patches utilize the WMDevices Multimode VCA along with the DMF-2 and later with the ProModular CLOQ as a modulation source.
All of the patches are triggered by the Make Noise PP/Brains and in some cases CV from the PP.
Thanks and enjoy!"

Maestro Woodwind

via this auction

"Incredibly rare vintage 60s Maestro Woodwind analogue effects box complete with clarinet pickup and original carry case! I think it's the rarest "W1" model. Not sure where to start with this...

It's primarily designed for playing Clarinet or Saxophone through, then passing it into an amp but can also be used as a guitar effect, synth effect or you can put just about anything through it via the inputs.

You can hear this all over the woodwind on a lot of the Frank Zappa records - infact, it's on the inside sleeve of Hot Rats. Used by Kraftwerk also. It sounds a lot like loads of effects on early Roxy Music/ Brian Eno stuff...

In theory it has settings like "Cello" and "Horn" which transform the woodwind sound via pitch shift/ tracking etc.

BUT, you can also coax various 60s Maestro fuzz sounds out of it (they made very expensive classics like the Brassmaster etc.) by putting whatever you want through it.

The clarinet socket was switched to a 1/4" socket by the previous owner, which makes it easier for feeding signals through. There's a very slight dent where they did it - you can see in the picture. Output is on two 1/4" jacks. This allows you to get really good stereo effects. It also has a tremolo and EQ! You can apply effects to each output.

If you want to run a guitar or signal from a mixing desk/ Pro Tools through the unit then you should use a preamp or signal booster before it so it can track the notes OK. Also, best to run it into a DI box or instrument inputs on your soundcard/ desk.

If you want to use the Maestro with a clarinet then use the pickup/ barrel in place of the usual one on your clarinet. Has fitted every single clarinet I've used it with (Buffet, Bundy etc.)

All in all a very eccentric and unique box, rare as hen's teeth. I was told this one was made in the 60s which would make sense. It's in really good condition and looks amazing. Probably a real collectors piece. Very useful and fun for studio sessions/ mixing.

Only made in the US I think - so you'll have to use a plug adapter which you can get really easily (and cheaply) at Maplin/ most places..."

WATKINS WEM IC 300 COPICAT

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Offered for sale here is this excellent IC300 Copicat: amongst the best-sounding of the tape Copicats - from an echo point of view (the valve Copicats do make great preamps, but don't produce as clear echoes). This is amongst the best examples we've had - it's had a very easy life and is very clean indeed and sounding fantastic.

It is in excellent working order - the heads have been cleaned and demagnetised and it's been fitted with a three-core earthed mains cable to comply with current safety regulations. It sounds as good as a Copicat can. The case is in superb condition, which is increasingly rare and it comes with its original footswitch (see photos below for details). Operationally it's a very good example indeed - all heads replay at an even level and tone - very inspiring to play. All knobs are crackle-free (some crackle may develop over time through lack of use - easily rectified by a few turns or in excessive cases, judicious use of suitable switch cleaner).

It works well with all sorts of sources, and is a great unit for dub delays - sounds lovely when feeding back into self-oscillation. The footswitch socket that is located in the rear compartment carries a wet-only signal enabling this to be used as a send on a mixing desk for dubtastic echo effects.
The echoes are even in level/tone across all four heads, and self-oscillate raucously when the sustain knob is turned up. The repeats are not particularly hifi in nature - they have a pleasing crunch to them which sits well behind whatever you're playing: this is not a digital delay unit!

It's fitted with a new WEM tape - because Copicats only use a short length of tape (compared to Echoplexes or Space Echoes) the tape should be changed regularly for optimum performance. We can supply quantities of tape loops if required. We use and supply both genuine WEM loops (still manufactured/supplied by Charlie Watkins) and loops from MyTape Echo. Usually if there is any overpayment on postage costs, we make up any excess with spare loops, but please get in touch if you require an extra supply.

It is a UK 240v model so will require a step-up transformer for use in countries with 100-110v mains supplies - the UK plug will be removed for overseas sales to countries with a 240v supply (unless otherwise requested).

“This 2600 has seen NO touring work and came out of a Studio where it was maintained in original excellent condition. There are 5 small 1/4in tears in the tolex. Two of them still have the rolled tolex intact, 3 are missing the fabric. One seamed corner on the keyboard case has a straight line tear at the crease. A SUPER easy restoration to perfect. The pictures show a no BS condition of the instrument. There are a few light scuffs and some dirt here and there. The left side metal re-inforced corner pieces have some rust. Again, easy to restore. The panels, pots, sliders, jacks and electronics are PERFECT. It sounds great, it looks great and we have TWO...make this one yours for a fair price.”

Not much more to say about this 2600. It works perfectly. The sliders and parts are all original and work without scratching. It has the NON-potted modules (read: can be repaired), Duo-phonic keyboard. Original cables are included. No manuals. The only thing keeping the case from being perfect is some cleaning and the vinyl repair of a few VERY small tears. The hardware looks great, nothing bent, nothing caved in. The left side has some rust on the hardware that would clean up pretty easily with some scotchbrite. The panels on both the keyboard and the synth are flawless.

"Serial number 5555, and has the original service tag from 1974. Here is some info about this particular model:

Minimoog D Moog Music (1972). These ones are the "famous" old osc. board but these osc board are not at all the same as the RA & Musonic. This is the common version of the Mini D. Their tunning was better than the first models (RA & Musonic). All serial numbers until SN 10175 were issued with this "original" oscillator board. If you remove the back metal cover (few screws) you'll find the completion date of your Mini. First Moog Music models have metal panel (not only the RA and the Musonic). The later one (but before SN 10175) have full plastic panel. Modulation wheels are smooth white and perhaps the last models (but before 10175) the white ribbed plastic. Inscriptions around knobs are different than on the RA & Musonic models."

"Before you read the App Store description, I would like to say 1 or 2 things... (Perhaps 3... or 4...!) First, a big thanks to the developer for creating uPhase+. Secondly uPhase is really unique on the App Store! (I think that Musicians who don't use an iDevice miss out big time... there are so many foolish developers in this world who create so many foolish Apps... and for a such a small price...!). Thirdly: to use uPhase+ for the first time, you have to learn the basics of how it works. So take get a glass of milk a chocolate cigarette and sit down and read this post (or go straight to the of developer's website)... Please make this small effort because this will enable you to enjoy uPhase+ fast... Fourthly, uPhase works really well, I had the honour to work on it for a whole week and didn't find any bugs. The App is really steady, so "bravo" again to the developer. Fifthly, Recording and AudioCopy are already in the works and will come in a future update. In conclusion, uPhase+ is a Killer App and is the kind of App which shows how important it is for a musician to own an iDevice in this day and age!

'Developped by a composer, uPhase+ is a virtual instrument geared towards live play. It focuses on giving the player total control over phasing patterns that can be spatialized on up to seven devices.

A "Solo Mode" acts as the app's lab, allowing the player to refine and save patterns before setting up a networked session.

uPhase+ is a door to Interactive Minimalism.

-12 Video tutorials on uPhase.wordpress.com help you to make the most of uPhase+.

-Conceived from the ground up for iPad, fully multi-touch interface.

-Beautifully recorded piano samples, modifiable in real-time via an in-app sample editor (all samples by Bluemorfo).

-Network up to 7 devices via wifi to spatialize patterns.
When networking devices, only one of them needs to run uPhase+. The others can connect via the free companion app, uPhase Client.

-Example Session included to get you going.

-Crisp graphics take advantage of the New iPad's retina display.

-Optimized to require very little bandwidth, even when networking 7 devices.

-Depending on demand and feasability, future updates will add requested features. WAV output is for the moment at the top of the list.'"

Elektron Analog Four - Processing Machinedrum

Published on Nov 27, 2012 by MrDataline

"Wanted to show how you can make use of the inputs on the Analog Four. All drum sounds are made by the Machinedrum and it is being fed into the Analog Four, using filters, overdrive and FX. I tried to 'abuse' the FX so you can get a feel how 'nice' sounding these new algorithms are, especially when after assigning LFOs to FX parameters...

This machine feels so 'right' to perform on. Total hands on control for those squelching synth lines!

Would like to show more, but all in good time!
