"This particular mini's electronic panel was used in the engineering department to test keyboards and ideas for peripherals and modules.
Keyboard artist of great fame would go through the engineering department to see what sort of "goodies" they were working on.

It was an early build possibly as far back as the Trumansburg, New York era.
It was in the Engineering department when I got there which was the Academy St. era in Williamsville, New York
It has been Professionally cleaned, adjusted and calibrated by one of the premier former Moog Technicians.
Some provenance on this unit:
was in Europe for a time being used by a professional musician.
famous keyboard artists breathed on it and fiddled with the controls when it was at the Academy and Walden St. addresses.
(the keyboard itself is newer and non famous techies and assembly people fiddled with that).

The cabinet is solid walnut and may be from Bob Moog's own walnut.
It has a carefully cut rectangle on the lower left side so techies could "do stuff to the keyboard".

Switch logic for top two mini switches with hand lettered notation:

Osc sync (2 pos) will Sync Osc 2 to Osc 1.
3 pos switch: Sync Osc to Osc 1. Middle pos off
Osc3 reset. When a key is depressed low freq Osc (ie sawtooth) will returm to 0.

3 position slider on bottom left of front panel is press on lettered "Mod RTNG". It stands for moulation routing. In the middle position it is normal and the functions are controlled by the orange rocker switch. To the far right the modulation wheel affects Osc 1. To the far left the wheel affects Osc.2."

Minibrute Monotonous Improvisation

"Quite by chance a Minibrute ended up on my desk the other day. I wasn't really going to order this synth but when one turned up for sale I couldn't resist the temptation to try it out - if only to see if it can do other sounds than the ones that have so far been presented in various reviews. I think I quite like it."

hexinverter.net vcNOIZ Voltage Controlled Noise Oscillator Demo #2

Published on Dec 27, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"vcNOIZ is a voltage controller noise oscillator for analogue modular synthesis. It is capable of generating white noise just like any other noise module, but also features voltage control of the noise pitch and sub-octave outputs which add their own character tone to the noise. The circuitry is entirely analog and uses no microcontrollers. It is a DIY (do it yourself) project as well as a complete assembled eurorack module.

In this demo, I ramble on and on about vcNOIZ, what you can do with it, then I demonstrate a few of the most prominent uses for it by generating pure white noise and then some percussive elements from it as well.

More demo videos to come :)

Korg MicroKorg XL+ Now Available

"MELVILLE, NY, December 2012 - Korg's latest iteration of the popular MicroKorg analog synth, the new MicroKorg XL+, is now available in stores in the U.S. It contains a reimagined palette of analog modeled sounds plus new dedicated PCM for Korg's SGProX piano, the M1 and VOX organs, as well as recognizable "Tape" instruments. A vintage look that includes brushed black panel and knobs completes the package.

"This is a great example of the wonderfully rare and brilliant-sounding mono-/duo-synth that its fans reckon outclassed the Minimoog as soon as it was introduced in 1983 and just got better and better as the Oxford Synthesiser Company tweaked the controls, added MIDI and offered more patch storage. At number 833, this is a relatively late model, which has (as far as I know) all the revisions that matter..."

ARP Pro Soloist Synthesizer SN 059

"The technical specifications of this synthesizer are:

· Monophonic (Plays one note at a time)
· One Oscillator
· LFO
· Analog Subtractive synthesis
· The Filter: 24 dB/oct. Low Pass plus 14 fixed filters (resonators)
· 37-Key Synth action with After Touch Sensitivity

This particular Pro-Soloist is serial numbered 2710-059. It has two outputs for either a ¼’’ low impedance or a RCA-style high impedance, in case you want to plug it into that bitchin’ Kenwood stereo you still have in the garage. There is also another connector on the back that is kind of like an old school midi, although that particular connection port has been somewhat broken apart, but is still attached to the synth and could still be used. The condition of this synth is about 7 out of 10. Unlike other Pro-Soloist that have been played to death, this synth’s after-touch capabilities still work to their fullest ability. The action of the keys is good for an archaic dinosaur, having no keys that stick and that all keys trigger their notes properly when played.

Vintage Korg Lambda Strings SN 230308

via the seller:
"1979 Korg Lambda - fully working, no issues except missing joystick knob. THREE oscillator ranks, 48 VCAs, ensemble, PS 3300 strings in a box!

This is THE string synthesizer to own! Accept no substitutes!

The Korg Lambda is part of the Korg Greek letter series of the late 1970's along with the Delta (strings and a paraphonic polysynth) and the Sigma (preset monosynth). It has a great string section with many options, 3 detunable oscillator sections, and a multiple VCA architecture borrowed from the modular PS 3100/3200/3300 series and the earlier PE 1000/2000 Polyphonic Ensembles. It has a Strings section and a Piano section, each with mixable tabs for multiple settings.

Cosmetically this unit is a 7 or 8... a red paint stain on the back panel (I've washed as much of it off as I can without trying a solvent) and some scuffing and damage to the veneer. The controls and logos are all clean and original except for the missing joystick knob (these are really hard to find!) and work. This is a really nice looking piece which is lighter than it looks... great for a band with that retro feel, even in a nice case it is luggable, around 35 lbs on its own. EVERYTHING WORKS, the two chorus buttons on the left take a moment to engage but they stay on. All LEDs work!

Stereo ensemble on both sounds controlled by the left most buttons, when engaged you get a true stereo sound for both sounds. You can also split them out, use a volume pedal to control one or both, and a sustain pedal for the piano. There's a trigger out to control a filter, run this through a Moogerfooger filter and just DROOL. The variable attack and release can be really long, and building up layers of chords is nice when you never get note stealing like on a polysynth! Octave switching affects both sides.

The strings are great, of course, and one of the best features is using the joystick to modulate the chorus as it stays in position once you find your setting. The pitchbend is pretty sweet, too. Settings are Strings I/II, Chorus and Brass and Organ. These last two don't have variable attack and decay... the brass is pretty weak but the organ isn't bad with Harmonics from the Piano section. Remember, 3 detunable oscillators... the chorusing is truly shimmering and you get beat oscillators to show your detuning. Tone controls.

The piano/ep/clav is OK, pretty Casio as opposed to DX7 although you do have a nice Harmonics tab which is like a celeste. You are not buying this unit for the piano sounds, although they do complement the strings and sound nice with the stereo settings. Tremelo affects only this side, and tone controls and a decay knob...

Serial number 230308, uses US voltage, 110 V 60 Hz."

"This is the early 2601 v3 model, said to be the most reliable version of this model, with the 4012 "Moog style" filter. This unit DOES NOT include a keyboard!

Functionally the unit is in great condition, recently serviced, reliable and sounds fantastic. Cosmetically there are a few scratches, the vinyl on the outer case is faded and the voltage processor sliders are missing their caps."

"100% handmade without any sequencer. Recorded 1979 just with two cassette-decks (ping-pong-recording).

Linke Seite trocken, rechte Seite Effekt, bedingt durch o.g. Aufnahmeverfahren und Mono-Analog-Delay. Unverändert direkt von Cassette digitalisiert, keine Rauschunterdrückung, kein EQ. Ausschnitt aus einem längeren Stück. Melodiespiel improvisiert und im Finger-Suchsystem. Klavierspielen habe ich mir erst später autodidaktisch angeeignet."

Roland CR-5000, Roland SH-2 Minimal Synth Demo

Published on Dec 27, 2012 by Jordan Passmore

"Here is a recording of me playing the Roland SH-2 analog synth and Roland CR-5000 analog drum machine. The CR-5000's trigger out is connected to the external in on the SH-2, allowing the synth to sort of pulse with the drum machine.

The drum machine is ran through an analog chorus pedal while the synth is being ran through an analog delay. Both were mixed on probably the "worst" mixer I have ever heard; an early Bogen transformer line mixer. You can hear the distortion very well on the drums but it is also distorting the synth as well. The overall mix was treated lightly through an Ibanez SDR-1000+ reverb."

"New Journey" - Performed entirely on the Korg Krome 73 - ©2012 Andy Barrow

Published on Dec 27, 2012 by MrRidgebackman

"Hello one and all

This is a piece of music I have been working on for a fair few days now. The title is quite appropriate, as it is a hint at what is to come to this channel. There will be a few subtle changes and some more obvious ones (yep, I am going to get lessons on how to play keyboard:-)

All of the five tracks were played and recorded on the Korg Krome and then mixed, tweaked and panned to make this my first real Workstation piece of music. Since this video was completed (waiting for the Slim Phatty to tune up), I connected a MIDI cable to the Slim Phatty from the Korg Krome and had both synths play the bass line (of course the SP won the Bass battle, but sadly never made it to this video). It is not that hard to work with and connect other synths or devices from the Krome and vice-versa.

I have to say that considering I hate menus, the Krome is pretty easy to navigate through and use, even without reading all of the instructions. Just watch a few of the Tutorial vids from Korg and you will be up and running in no time. Yes you need to spend the time, and time does fly by pretty quick, so ensure you are not working the next day before you head off into Sequencing Heaven on a Workstation...They should really warn you, as it does get rather addictive. Thanks Korg for making me so really bloody tired at work!!!! :-)

So this piece created, conceived, produced and mixed all in one box.... Love it, I hope you do to,

Many thanks for watching.

All Photographs, videos and images are my own taken on a Canon DSLR and Sony HD video Camera.
