BX-13-VC 24-to-13 Pin Vintage Roland Guitar Synth Bus Converter with Expanded Control

Published on Jan 1, 2013 WayneJoness·248 videos

"http://www.joness.com/gr300/BX13.htm The BX-13-VC is a revision of the BX-13-VX. The "C" in VC stands for control. The BX-13-VC adds support for the resonance knob on a vintage Roland guitar to be used as a control source with modern Roland guitar synths like the VG-99 or GI-20.

This is accomplished by connecting a tip-ring-sleeve cable from the BX-13-VC to a Roland device with a EV-5 input.

In addition, the BX-13-VC allows processing of the hex fuzz signal from a vintage Roland G-202/303/505 or 808 guitar synth controller."

"This is often called a "Preset" synth, but that is deceiving as pretty much every function (Filter, Envelope, etc) can be overridden and set however you want. It shares the same gnarly diode-based dual VCF (and a lot more, I think) with the legendary mega-expensive GX-1 solo synth section and has Highpass and Lowpass filters, both with resonance. It also has the smoothest, most expressive optical aftertouch I've ever used. This is really one of the best sounding monosynths I've ever heard, and also one of the most characteristic. I'm probably crazy for getting rid of it but am desperate for some cash to fund other projects.

Cosmetically it's in nice, very clean condition with some minor scuffs and wear. One switch shaft (Vibrato Preset/Control) is slightly bent askew but functions 100% properly. The lid is missing one clasp and some of the tolex is starting to come unglued from the lid trim.
Functionally it's perfect, everything works as it should and the CV/Gate mod allows it to be played from a midi-CV converter or analog sequencer. I'm not too into acid, but the filter architecture on this makes it a really unique acid machine when sequenced."

"Synsonics Drum Machine (Model 5450) with Box and Accessories. This Synsonics "Drums" drum machine/synthesizer is in excellent working order and very clean (seems to have been never used). This machine was marketed as a toy, but can produce some really cool sounds with the tone wheel and other features, and has the audio outputs of a upper-level drum machines (1/4 in. headphone jack, stereo jacks, ACC jack, and input for a 9 volt DC power source -- was not originally included, nor included in auction) plus on-board speakers. Comes complete with original stereo cables, users manual, and Synsonic brand drumsticks. Original box with flip open window is included, but has some wear (creases, window is slightly loose, etc). This item, especially this model, is very hard to find with everything here, would be awesome for any collector of 80's/90's toys, but also an amazing instrument for any musician making new but rarely heard vintage beats..."

"A solid & practical metal box. The spacey decals are a tough vinyl.
The base of the unit screws on with 6 screws & if powered by mains is ideally left in place. If you want to power it with a 9v battery, the base can be left off for easy access to change the battery. See the image of the internals from underneath. The base has felt pads on for a soft seating.

A brief explanation of controls etc.. The front panel pots from left to right....1. Sensitivity, adjusts the sensitivity of the trigger pad & determines how hard it needs to be struck.
2. Decay, Sets the length of the phrase/note, from a short sound to a long decaying sound.
3. Sweep, you can sweep the pitch if the vco for hands on effect.
4. Rate, The frequency of the modulation.
5. Mode, The shape of the vco.
6. Nz/Pan, Adjusts the amount of noise to be mixed with the output signal. (Linked to a switch on the rear of the

"This is a handmade Rockit synthesizer designed by Hackme Electronics and built from their circuit board. It is a monophonic digital-analogue hybrid using two 8 bit VCO's through a digitally controlled analogue filter and VCA (with 2 LFO's thrown in for good measure). All parameters are directly controllable on panel (and via midi cc). It is powered by 6 x AA batteries (rechargeables are fine). It weighs 1.8kg.

http://hackmeopen.com/rockit-build-info/

Rather than use the standard Rockit case, I have housed the synth in a wooden box with brass front panel. All controls are securely attached to the panel rather than PCB mounted. Leaded solder was used throughout.

The controls are:

Back row
Drone switch, volume, on/off, midi-in, midi-thru, audio-in (to use filter and VCA), audio-out

Left block of controls (from back to front)
VCO1 waveform, VCO2 waveform, VCO mix, VCO2 pitch
A, D, S, R for VCA
Filter cutoff, filter resonance, filter ADSR depth, low/band/high pass filter selector
A, D, S, R for filter

Magic Ceramic Theremin Lamp Doepfer A-178

Uploaded on Nov 22, 2011 creativegallerysynth·19 videos

"The first test of the Magic Ceramic Theremin lamp. It is developed as a peculiar piece for the opening of the Exibition of several ceramists in Gallery Artibrak. from november until 28th of December 2011.
A theremin is normally stepless, but in this case an A-156 is used as a quantizer..

Small explanation for those who are not familiar:
In this magic piece of ceramic two antenna's are integrated. One antenna for the volume and one for the pitch. The instrument does not have to be touched. The volume can be controlled by your left hand (when approaching it the volume increases), the pitch can be controlled by your right hand (when approaching it, the pitch of the sound goes up). By approaching the antenna's you are influencing the potential difference. Just like the antenna of your transistor radio which functions well or not when approaching it.

The Magic Ceramic is based on the original Theremin invented by Léon Theremin in 1919. That electronic instrument is stepless variable and very expressive. It sounds like an opera voice or violin.

This ceramic version of the instrument has a much more variety than it's original. You can make the sound stepless or let it be quantized, so that you hear a real tonescale/musical scale. The sinus-tone of the Magic Ceramic is quantized (chopped in pieces), and in the way it is presented now only the Minor notes are heard. (like the black keys on a piano) In this way the steps between the notes are bigger and easier to distinguish. Other possibilities are just Major notes or the complete tonescale, quantized or not. There is also a small sampler added, so when you reach the highest note a spoken voice can be heard.

"Happy New Year everybody!

As usual there was an abundance of fireworks which left the streets littered with the empty shells that used to house the explosives.

So how about using at least the sticks from the skyrockets to something? I haven't come up with something yet. But I have collected a handfull of sticks in various conditions so the materials are there now.

The music is something I recorded back in 1999 and is the old Elton John classic Daniel played on Yamaha HE-8 and Technics SX-C600 organs."

KORG CELEBRATES MILESTONE 50TH ANNIVERSARY

via KORG:

"Dear fellow musicians,

This year, Korg celebrates its 50th anniversary! Since it was founded in 1963, Korg's goal has been to create new experiences in music and performance. That was what drove the creation of Japan's first disc-based rhythm machine, the Doncamatic, and then led to the development of Japan's first synthesizer, the world's first needle-type tuner, followed by numerous unique instruments that have brought the enjoyment of musical performance to many people all around the world.

Korg is resolved to continually create innovative and uncompromising instruments of high quality that inspire professional musicians, yet are still approachable enough for anyone to play.

The musical instruments Korg will deliver are reflections of the ideas and values of the many artists and users who love Korg products - now and into the future.

We look forward to the next 50 years and what the future will bring."

st.erling 'a forest' - an original cover of The Cure on OP-1 (demo)

Published on Jan 1, 2013 djthomaswhite·79 videos

"Introducing st.erling. Here he presents a cover of the classic The Cure song, "A Forest" (original by r. smith and s. gallup). All original production and arrangement by the saint here. Music composed on the Teenage Engineering OP-1 entirely, then dumped into Logic Express and rearranged. Vocals added into Logic and all post effects and production completed in that DAW environment. Movie shot at a park by his house on iPhone 5 and edited in iMovie.

The Cure were one of st.erling's biggest musical influences growing up and this version combines affection for their original song with modern influences by other bands such as The Presets, Cut Copy, LCD, and Radio Department among many others. This all-electronic version clearly pulls from the original while trying to establish a unique direction at the same time. I think he pulls it off.

Stay tuned for more from st.erling and thanks for stopping by to check out another one of my videos.

Note: Song production and final adjustments continue. Mastering not final at this time."

Custom Oberheim "One Voice" Analog Modular Desktop

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This auction is for an Oberheim "One Voice" custom modular synthesizer, which consists of a patched out vintage SEM, Mini-sequencer, 4 Voice output mixer and 4 Voice power supply in a wooden box with laser etched front panel. The power supply is running on 120V North American power and will include the original Oberheim power cable...

If you've been thinking of starting a modular system you could do a lot worse than this as it contains:
2xVCO
2xEG
VCF
VCA
LFO w/reset
2x8 step analog sequencer with both quantized and unquantized outputs
noise source
Sample/Hold with lag
VC Clock
4 channel stereo mixer
headphone amp
4 way multiple
case/power
Add that up in the modular planner and you're talking classic vintage analog for Doepfer prices."

This one was put together by Larry Church. You can find additional details and pics of the inside here.

Some additional details via the auction: "The only thing worth noting functionally is that the individual step trigger outputs for the sequencer, while wired properly, are very low voltage (~1V) and are S-trig (short to ground, normally open instead of closed) so they really need additional amplification and/or logic inversion to work with most things… not so useful in the context of this closed system, but very handy to have if you are using with a larger modular setup that has basic utility modules to handle these functions.

The SEM has had the LED replaced with a cool, non-blinding blue one... and is very clean cosmetically, as is the Output Module. The mini-sequencer has inexplicably had the front panel paint stripped by a former owner (legending is taped on there for reference) and the knobs are missing their inserts. The wood box won't win any furniture craftsmanship awards but it's made well and overall looks nice. The power supply had a recap and has enough juice to drive more SEMS should you choose to expand it in the future. The fuse holder is a bit loose but not in danger of falling out.

I've tweaked the semi-normalizations a bit and have it in what I think is the optimum routing configuration in regards to external CV/sequencing/transposition to the SEM.

The CV1 and Gate1 jacks in the lower right hand corner are where you plug in your external CV (like a keyboard, my Mini-Brute works perfectly) and the toggle switches route it for you. When in the upper SEQ position, the unquantized CV output of sequencer row #1 is routed directly to the SEM oscillators and gates to Envelope inputs so you can play the SEM from the sequencer without any patch cables. If you switch it to the lower EXT position, it transposes the sequencer from your external keyboard. If you want to bypass the sequencer and drive the SEM directly from your external source, you'd use EXT and then set the left routing switch on the Mini-sequencer to "Keyb". I've also run the main audio output of the SEM to input 4 on the Output Module.

Of course any of these semi-normalizations can be overridden by front panel patch points, but these help it become a self-contained, play-and-play from the sequencer, no patch cables necessary for immediate gratification instrument."

Description from ciat-lonbarde.net

Tetrazzi is the newest incarnation of the Organus series, a mandala of analog oscillator circuits that can cross-modulate to form the empire of infinite circuitry known as pure sonic chaos. The tetrazzi boards shall be assembled by machine in Colorado, they will be perfect, and sonde-tested here in the workshop in Baltimore. Electronically, it represents some of the more profound electronic complices that were developed in the 20th century, such as Buchla Source of Uncertainty, U.S. Navy Phantastron Radar Circuit, and Piezoelectric Flex Technology. It is a way to make the touch-sensitivity of human organs into touch-sensitivity on the pipe organ, pipe here meaning "squishing electron flow via ceramic transducer"
