DSI Tempest and Cari-Lite Custom Case

flickr By mattpdunphy (leviathant)

"After playing a few gigs with my Tempest, my wife insisted I get a hardshell case, but I was reluctant to pull the trigger on a Pelican or otherwise suitable case. Instead, we were at a thrift shop in Philadelphia and came across a $9 suitcase that happened to be just about the right size. We spent a few hours cutting foam, spraying super 77 on fabric, hot gluing trim, and cutting up an old belt, and in the end, I came out with a pretty sweet case for my favorite beatbox.

The original leather handle was disintegrating with each lift, so I cut up an old Rage Against the Machine belt and barge glued a new handle together."

Roland TR-808 WITH BUILT IN MIDI

via this auction
This is the one in this video.

"Roland TR-808 that has been professionally upgraded with an internal MIDI interface! No bulky ugly outboard MIDI interface box with a nasty wall wart power supply. The MIDI interface installed is simply tacked onto the circuit. There has been no invasive cutting of the circuit board, and if you want to, the MIDI interface can be easily removed and the drum machine can be set right back to stock condition. The MIDI instalation was completely non-destructive. Look at the pictures to see what the interface looks like. Included is the original switch with it's cable if you want to set it back to stock...

"This tr-808 sounds excellent, and with the built in MIDI interface it is easier than ever to sync up to a computer. I have been syncing it up to Ableton Live and it is rock solid, and sounds so good. The sync switch has been replaced with a three position switch, and all you have to do is set it to the middle position for MIDI to be implemented. It's very easy to turn MIDI on. With the MIDI interface you can start/stop the internal sequencer of the tr-808 from your computer sequencer, AND you can trigger all the individual sounds on a keyboard at the same time while it's running! You can also use the TR-808 as a sound module if you don't want to use it's built in sequencer. If you want to use the TR-808 in DIN sync mode all you have to do is simply switch it to input or output in the back. This is by far the best MIDI interface available for the TR-808, and it has been very well engineered. You can change the MIDI parameters through SYSEX commands, and it is easy to do. Included are all the MIDI manuals, a CD along with a MIDI cable that came with the kit...

CASIO CZ-1 Phase Distortion SYNTHESIZER

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

Click the pics for the supersize shots.

"The CZ-1 synthesizer competes with the CZ-5000 for the title of most advanced in the CZ series. The CZ-1 had all the features of the CZ-5000 except the sequencer. However, the CZ-1 doubled the memory, was multitimbral, also stored splits and layers as "Operation Memories", added velocity and aftertouch sensitivity to the keyboard, along with programming parameters to control how velocity and aftertouch pressure would affect the sound. In this respect the CZ-1 is the most advanced CZ synthesizer. The CZ-1 also featured a backlit display - a small but nice improvement over the rest of the series.

It has a full 61-note, 5-octave keyboard with velocity and aftertouch sensitivity. Very professional features from a Casio synth! Otherwise it is essentially a CZ-3000 (which is essentially two CZ-1000s or CZ-101s). With the CZ-1 you get 8-stage envelopes, 2 oscillators per voice and a whole lot more, with relatively easy programming.

Polyphony: 16 voices; Oscillators: 2 per voice (DCO, DCW, DCA); Keyboard: 61 keys with velocity and aftertouch; Memory: 64 preset, 64 user patches, 64 patch external cartridge; Effects: Chorus; Control: MIDI.

This has plenty of Yamaha DX-like sounds with a unique use of Phase Distortion synthesis to get them. For performance, the CZ-1 may be the best of the CZ-series. Its dynamic keyboard and enhanced memory abilities make it ideal for live situations. Memory, MIDI and multitimbrality have all been upgraded in the CZ-1 making it one of the nicest synths ever to grow out of a consumer market. As an older piece of gear, I am selling it on an as-is basis and am offering no guarantee. However, as I said, I did test it and put it though it's paces and it was working fine."

Logique Analogique for iPad Video

Published on Jan 7, 2013 Apps4idevicesMusic·325 videos

http://apps4idevices.com/read/logique-analogique
"Logique Analogique is a simulation of a real circuit board that includes an 8-bit binary counter, analog implementation of logic functions, and 4 channel, 1-bit sound generation. To quote the developer, "The Logique Analogique sequencer consists of an 8-bit binary counter and four tracks which generate pulse waves when a user-defined majority function depending on the counter bits is true. Switches which select the counter bits (or their logic inverse) and a threshold voltage define the majority function. The output is calculated as the XOR function of the four tracks' signals, which produces a ring modulation like effect." Complexities aside, this app creates incredibly powerful sounds, with a seemingly endless amount of rhythmic possibilities. The sounds can be layered to create ring modulation type effects, with both pitch and threshold control to further shape the sound. The sequencer makes it possible to create evolving patterns or complete songs, using the tap & drag method to easily create your sequence. I would suggest starting slowly with this app, to hear the effect of each switch or dial, but then dive in and explore. It has to be noted that this app does not offer any method of recording yet, but both MIDI and Audio Copy are currently being considered for the future. Despite these missing necessities, I have to say that I'm incredibly impressed with the power of this app, and for the first time, I'm willing to connect my iPad to another source to record my creations. I haven't found another app that creates such intense sonic delights as this does. I'm so taken with Logique Analogique, that even without recording or MIDI, I still have to rate it ... "The contour generator is a special kind of envelope generator that doesn't have the now classical Attack-Decay-Sustain-Release settings. Instead it has Attack-On-Decay-Off and can work as both envelope generator and LFO.
They were found on EMS synthesizers but most other synthesizer makers preferred the Moog ADSR system.

MIDI Pattern Sequencer for iPad Now Available

"MIDI Pattern Sequencer is a tool with powerful and at the same time very comfortable, intuitive and easy interface. It is the main feature, through which the sequencer can easily used by anyone, from beginner to professional, and everyone will find it most necessary for their own purposes.

The sequencer does not produce the sound. It is designed to control via MIDI any external sound modules, samplers, synthesizers and other applications running on iPad or another computer. Full support for external MIDI interfaces, network and virtual ports, synchronization with external devices and transport control makes this sequencer like playback control center for music devices or other applications.

The best things:

● Indispensable tool in creation of final composition or experiments with rhythm and phrase patterns.

● User interface is designed so that all features of the current mode are available immediately or through one or two steps.

● Can be operated with one hand, even with one finger, in any place of your workspace to which you can reach.

The drum synth can be triggered by connecting external drum pad triggers (drum pads not included) or via any external trigger input. There is also MIDI IN/OUT that has been fully tested and working.

The digital drum synth also includes a modulation section that allows you to set the pitch and pitch bend direction.
