"A short demo at NAMM of the first Akasha Synth object. It's a modular system with geometric shapes in order to build sounding 3D art objects. The modules or nodes provide analog sound circuits and a digital interconnection that can be controlled by Midi. Touch sensitive pads and bright LEDs show the interconnection VCAs and their modulations. There are triangles, squares and pentagons to obtain any platonic or irregular body or planes.

The synth line comes from the Akasha Modules, it's synced to an XBASE 999 and controlled by Midi CCs or the internal touch sensitive pads.

Hard to believe, but it takes HDR to capture this room - conventional camera sensors fail miserably. The whole room is just dark, light-absorbing surfaces (velvet, wood) and a few pointed light sources. There's no way to just 'take a photo of it'.

"This image is created from 6 exposures (0.7 bracketing), processed in Photomatix Pro, with tons of subtle manual color and light corrections in Niksoftware Viveza, and some Nik Sharpener Pro."

Synth spotting: Aside from the Moog and Roland library walls there's RSF in there, stacks of Roland MKS-80s, a Hartmann Neuron, Alesis Ion, Waldorf Q and XT racks, and... he has a Schmidt. On the right, there's a Roland MKS-80 with MPG-80 programmer under the XT and I'm not sure what that is with a blue LCD and red LEDs underneath. I thought it might be a Novation Nova or Supernova, but their screens have two rows, one with the name of the patch and one with the number of the patch.

"The PPG WaveMapper is very powerful 3 oscillator synth that uses a very unique method for combining and manipulating all of the synths parameters. It uses a Sound Map to control 8 sets of parameters by simply moving them to different places on the map, which makes it easy to experiment with new sound combinations with just the swipe of a finger. The WaveMapper also offers a new synthesis system that maps the waveforms of samples to a new type of wavetable, preserving the characteristics of the original sound across the full range of the keyboard. You can import your own samples using the iTunes file sharing system, and audio paste will be added in the next v 1.01 update. It does come with a great range of samples, including all of the wavetables found in the WaveGenerator app, and you can also convert any sample into a wavetable as well. It comes with AudioBus support for directly recording into other apps, as well as recording within the app and audio copy to the general pasteboard, which is recommended for greater performance. The WaveMapper includes full MIDI support, including the parameter morphing that occurs when the icons are moved around the wave map. The video below shows how you can even record the parameter changes into a sequencer app, then play the synth with the automated changes. You can also get good results using the built-in Arpeggiator, which gives you the freedom to concentrate on parameter manipulation using the icons on the mapper or directly in the parameter sections of the synth. I'm really amazed at how powerful the mapping surface is, allowing for very unique sound combinations, most of which are impossible with any other synth, but on this one it's done so easily. You also just have to tap and hold on any icon to get direct access to the relevant parameters, which makes deeper sound design very easy and accessible. Best of all, the WaveMapper makes complex synthesis totally accessible to all levels of synth enthusiasts, which is just another reason why it is ... a Killer App!

This post officially wraps up the MATRIXSYNTH specific coverage for NAMM 2013.  As promised, you'll find the super size pics from all previous posts on Flickr here.  You can check out the individual booth sets here.  The majority of pics have been featured already, however, you'll find the original gigantic pics on Flickr.  Feel free to use and share them, and if you do please mention the site.

I was going to embed a slide show here, but every time I do my mouse disappears, so I'm not going to do that to you.  You can launch the slideshow on Flickr if you like.

Note, that although this is the final MATRIXSYNTH NAMM post, other NAMM posts will continue to go up if they come in.  This year, I took a total of 232 pics and 17 videos (11.26 G of uploading - twice for the pics).  You can find the individual posts here via the MNAMM13 label.  They are in the reverse order each booth was visited, so if you want to get a sense of what it's like walking through NAMM in a single day, scroll down to the first post and move up the list.
