Blue monday VS lucifer (cover)

Published on Feb 26, 2013 mik300z·61 videos

Synth spotting starting with a Sequentix P3 sequencer. Minimoog Model D plays a lead role. Let this one develop.

"Love to hear this played in a club , any dj's out there let me know;) Lucifer was a track composed by Alan parsons for anyone who's not familiar to it.
Thought these two classic tracks would sound good together if I recreated them using hardware synths and then use P3 sequencer and ableton live to arrange and do some audio experimentation. After 'the chase' cover I made some years ago it always annoyed me that I couldn't change the awful drums , had to record in one take in those days. The video is a series of clips I made over the week as I was putting this together. Love to hear this played in a club , any dj's out there let me know;)"

"just screwing around, obviously there are a lot better simulations of the lowry marimba repeat (and the baba o'riley intro) around... it would have been much better to patch over a polyphonic organ into the mattson mini modular's gates but the organ i have (a farfisa) was a little heavy for my current lazy saturday evening mood...!"

via the seller: "This one has the earlier Korg 35 "noise" filter on the low pass, which gives it an extra gnarly sound. Amazing for bass, leads, effects and especially great for the external processing and running anything you want through it, drums, mics, guitars. This particular unit also has a famous history: it was owned by Dan the Automator, producer for the first Gorillaz album, along with Deltron3030, Dr. Octagon and more. I got this unit from him directly, it was well cared for in his privately operated recording studio and was used on many famous recordings."

Update: behind the scenes:

"Probably most interesting was NO EGs or VCAs! The two MOTM-300 VCOs used were run through the new Happy Nerding Fun VCF and then out to the final mixer and panned in stereo. The three gate outputs I patched in were all routed to a Synthesizers.com Q961 Sequencer Interface (the first two to column A and the third to column By adding a longer "on time" to column B, combined with the Modcan 59B delay being relatively synced to the SQ816 (a Modcan 53B was the master clock with the slower subdivision going to the delay tempo sync) a pretty nice little syncopation emerged."

TEControl Breath Controller Review

▓▒░ OFFICIAL BLURB ░▒▓

We have received numerous requests from musicians and composers to develop a replacement for Yamaha's breath controller BC3A.

The result is the MIDI Breath Controller, which has the same function as a combination of the BC3A and the "MIDI solution" converter box but with a USB interface instead of the older standard DIN connector.

The MIDI Breath Controller uses a novel signal processing algorithm to transform the breath pressure signal to MIDI cc messages that let you add realistic expression to your performance. This is extremely useful for live performance with synthesizers and DAW's. It gives you excellent control of pitch, expression, velocity cross-fade etc... of soft synths and sample libraries

BugBrand News - Update on PEQ, Hiatus on Modular Front

via the Bugbran mailing list:

"Last night I added the second (& potentially final) batch of PEQs to the online store.

No one noticed yet!
So here is the link

Will I make further batches? I don't know.. I guess I need feedback from people. If these sell and then there's ongoing demand, maybe.. (though knob sourcing is currently busting my balls)

In other news:
- brief mention for now that I'm taking a pause on the modular front for the coming months - in theory that may mean more 'general' designs.

- I've begun releasing a few details on the coming-quite-soon new version PT Delay - it is still at least a month off but I am pretty excited already - production is starting to roll..

-- the aim here is for more regular production - SMD parts are being stuffed and future runs may well have further build steps out-sourced (I want to investigate these areas - but for the first batch I will be putting the hardware on by hand & doing the assembling in the usual Bristol setup)
- a little tease is here: http://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78682

That's about it - mainly at the moment I am in focus and tidy-up modes - trying to push particular new projects alongside tidy & settle from several years of hectic! Not much in the way of shows for now + gradually sorting through hours & hours of recordings from the past years..
Cathartic!

Best to all,
Tom"

I'll keep this posted for folks since right now this video seems to be the only one on YouTube of a PR-7. Too bad I didn't have a compatible synth to use it with.

Programming of patches is now possible with a mock-up of a DX7 front panel including a backlit LCD adjustable display and ROM/RAM cartridge port. Other features include a midi in to allow key data to be sent for audible feed back while working with sounds, cartridge load/save to any module and is rack mountable if desired.'"

PASCO Dual Function Generator + modulation

Published on Feb 26, 2013

"Brief demo of the Pasco dual function generator + modulation generator.
http://www.etsy.com/listing/124109528/vintage-dual-function-generator-2"

"Here we have a modified vintage Pasco scientific dual function generator. This thing has tons of great features and is capable of some amazing sonic architecture.

Each oscillator has 5 waveforms with duty cycle for the pulse and ramp waves. There is also a mixer section with 2 additional inputs. The first input is an 1/8" mono input with gain. One of my favorite patches with this beast is to run audio to the 1/8" in and take the banana out and patch it to the input on Gen 1.

Most of the modulation routing is done through the 2 modulation knobs but you can also experiment with various outs patched to generator 1's input ( white banana jack next to gen 1 ) You can also feed CV to the same input or the 2 CV in's on the front panel.

MODS:
*1/4" CV in for each oscillator ( 0 - 10v )
*1/4" audio out jack

**The dual function generator also comes with 2 banana cables and a 1/4" to banana jack converter so you can modulate Generator 1 with your 1/4" format gear.

**OPERATES ON 115 Volts"

via the seller: "This is a Waveterm A in the Waveterm B enclosure.

This is as per the factory upgrade to the 5 1/4 disc drives.

Serial number WT0200

Waveterm come with Data Cable.

Supplied with small Library from 1984 (the year not the film)

Unit is 110V and 220V selectable.

So far most of the systems are working however there seems to be a problem with the sample play back. We suspect that the operating systems disc may be corrupted. At present the Waveterm is being tested by one of the top UK Synth techs and I will provide more info as it comes in.

Additional Info
After much experimentation it appears that all systems work with the exception of sample play back. Fourier and Wave Tables operate correctly and can be seen and heard working. External Sampling comes in, you can see the waveform but playback is corrupted. Disc drives work correctly. Communications works correctly. The Waveterm has been tried with two different 2.2's and intern both 2.2's have been tried with two different Waveterms all with the same outcome weird sample playback. The only common item is the system software which we only have one copy of!!

Additional Info
I have been advised that a new systems disc is on its way from a very cool guy. I will contact Mr. Repair Monday and find out any more info. I have also been advised that I had over priced the unit so a new BIN price is now available. Having spoken to Mr. Repair we may have found the problem to be a faulty lead. We are in the process of getting a new lead so we can give it a go. OOOhhh i'm so excited!!"

Wavefront Classic Theremin

via this auction
Comes with a tiny mug.

"One of the few concert quality Theremins still made in the world today. None of them, as beautiful as this walnut encased classic machine, built to recreate the iconic RCA Theremin sounds of the 1930's. This is as close to that famous timbre as you can get, without the hassle of using rare, unreliable tubes and high voltages. When this innovative instrument (the only instrument in the world you play by NOT touching it) first appeared to the public, people fainted in churches where they were performed, believing they were hearing the voices of angels.
Many early science fiction films featured RCA Theremins for their eerie soundtracks and experimental compositions. And if you're a fan of Clara Rockmore, you know this instrument can also perform an amazing repertoire of music in the right hands-- literally. Add guitar / FX pedals to modulate the output for special effects, or attach a MIDI device for controlling other MIDI instruments and synths (MIDI Theremin controller available on Wavefront's Site). The possibilities are endless. This model is so gorgeous and well crafted, it deserves a place on stage to showcase your theremin skills to the world.

Moog Rogue with Filter CV Mod

"Not your typical Moog Rogue; every function and every key work beautifully. This great synth has even had a filter kit professionally installed. This means that you can control the voltage of the filter easily with anything from a Doepfer MCV4 MIDI to CV controller or any V/Oct synth module. You can see the 1/8th inch filter jack in the pics beneath "rogue." You can even control the voltage of the filter with a PC, using a MIDI to CV controller, how cool is that? A pre-MIDI synth filter being that precisely controlled has limitless possibilities. This synth can filter any sound you put through it as well as the notes being controllable with CV as well."

iMini - Arturia

"COMPATIBILITY
iMini is compatible with iPAD 2, iPAD 3 and IPAD Mini

DESCRIPTION
iMini is a recreation of the classic 1971 Minimoog™ synthesizer, one of most iconic synthesizers of all time.

Based on the TAE® technology found in our award winning Mini V software, iMini offers a level of sound quality never before found on the iPAD as well as over 500 sounds by leading sound designers.

We have also partnered with the Bob Moog Foundation so that a portion of each sale goes to support their work in music education via the Dr. Bob Sound school program, making available the archives of Dr. Bob Moog and funding the dream to build the Moogseum.

The Minimoog™ synthesizer was made famous by artists and bands such as Stevie Wonder, Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Keith Emerson, Devo, Jean Michel Jarre and more. We now bring the features and sound of this classic to the iOS platform.

The iMini not only recreates the look and feel of the most legendary synthesizer, it does it with unparalleled sound quality. iMini is based on the award winning Arturia Mini V software that was created in partnership with Dr. Robert Moog himself, back in 2003. Thanks to this heritage, continuous research and refinements over the years, iMini comes with amazing sound quality and a large collection of preset sounds created by top sound designers such as Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream) and Geoff Downes (Asia).

What will you do with it?
First you can play the iMini’s numerous sounds from the iPad keyboard. You can create your own sounds and start building your personal sound palette.
If you are an owner of the Arturia Mini V software on your Mac or PC, you can import and export sounds between your laptop or desktop Mini V and iMini.

You can also control iMini from a MIDI keyboard via CoreMIDI and integrate it into your studio or live performances.

But this is not all; iMini is ‘Tabletop Ready’. Tabletop is a free iPad application that allows you to integrate iMini into a full studio of devices. With Tabletop you can build an entire song, with drum machines, FX's, sequencers... and of course the inimitable Minimoog™ sound.

Tabletop Ready™
The connect page is also your avenue to open up a whole new world of possibilities with iMini via Retronyms Tabletop application.

Update: new video and the press release:

Published on Feb 26, 2013 Arturiaweb·80 videos

And the press release:

"Arturia advances history-making Minimoog to iPad musical masses!

"The iMini turned my iPad into an ‘old skool’ analogue bass monster! Its sound is irresistibly ‘phat’ and very close to the original. If you want that typical dirty Moog sound then the iMini is all you’ll ever need. It’s by far the most powerful and hypnotising synth app on the market.”
- Stefan Bodzin, 2013 (DJ/producer, remixer of Depeche Mode, Booka Shade, and more)

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: music software and hardware company Arturia is proud to announce availability of iMini, an authentic recreation of the all-time classic Minimoog monosynth for Apple’s all-conquering iPad, as of February 27...

iMini is based on the TAE® (True Analog Emulation) synthesis technology found in Arturia’s award-winning Mini V soft synth, meticulously modelling the distinctive tones and analogue nuances of the legendary Seventies-vintage Minimoog Model D monosynth. Moog changed the musical world with the Minimoog and Arturia helped change the music software world with the Mini V.

Arturia now brings the still-sought-after classic Minimoog sound to the musical masses, transforming any iPad mini, iPad 2, or iPad with Retina display into the ultimate analogue synth emulation! Those timeless three oscillators and that 24dB per octave fabled filter are all present and accounted for in iMini. It also successfully sports the look and feel of Dr Bob Moog’s namesake iconic synthesizer for all to see (and hear). But being a game-changing iPad app for 2013 and not an analogue synth design dating back to 1970 means there’s a whole lot more to iMini than first meets the eye...

Any serious synthesizer connoisseur will instantly recognise the MAIN mode screen as an eye-catching rendering of the Minimoog Model D front panel, albeit with welcome additional ‘analogue’ CHORUS AMT. and DELAY AMT. level controls, as well as a POLY switch for playing polyphonically — impossible in 1970, obviously! Other subtle supplements include a gearwheel icon above the keyboard — press to reveal GLIDE, DECAY, LEGATO, and SCROLL switches for performance keyboard control, plus a SCALE function to choose from no fewer than 26 different scales and modes. Meanwhile, iMini comes complete with hundreds of superb sounds showcasing its supreme sonic versatility; press LOAD from the menu bar and choose from sound designer or category — couldn’t be simpler!

But ‘behind’ that familiar-looking MAIN screen lies a wealth of truly 21st Century audio action: the PERFORMANCE page accesses an arpeggiator with two latch modes and two assignable XY pads for creating all kinds of patterns and real-time morphing sounds; the FX page provides iMini with the same wide-ranging CHORUS and accurate ANALOG DELAY models found in the above-mentioned Mini V software — subtle sound thickening to wildly modulated effects (chorus) and sync to external tempo (stereo delay) possibilities abound here! Handily, all onscreen knobs and switches in each iMini page can easily be assigned to MIDI CC allowing automation from any external MIDI source. The default MIDI map will automatically work with Arturia MiniLab or Analog Player 25 Universal MIDI Controller keyboards!

And that’s not all: the CONNECT page is the gateway to making iMini talk to the outside world (using the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit) — use WIST (Wireless Sync Start Technology) to sync the arpeggiator and delay to other iPad or iPhone apps, and integrate iMini into a complete studio environment via Retronyms Tabletop. This free iPad app allows multiple iMini instances to be simultaneously run; real-time performance recording into a sequencer; parameter automation; processing of third-party, Tabletop-ready apps through the iMini filter, and more. “iMini is an ideal Tabletop-ready app,” says Retronyms Co-Founder John-Paul Walton. “It’s a fresh take on a legendary synth, and comes packed with a ton of amazing presets — everything from retro space sounds to contemporary bass noise.”

Thanks to iMini, today there’s really no excuse for not taking that history-making Minimoog sound anywhere anytime. And in recognition of the groundbreaking instrument to which it owes its very existence, for every iMini sold, Arturia will make a donation to The Bob Moog Foundation, whose Executive Director, Michelle Moog-Koussa, kindly adds: “We are grateful to Arturia and Retronyms for donating part of the proceeds from the iMini in support of our mission to ignite creativity at the intersection of music, science, history, and innovation. A portion of this funding will go to support our educational initiative, Dr Bob’s SoundSchool, which teaches children the science of sound through the magic of music.”

For Frédéric Brun, Arturia’s President, the feeling is mutual: “We are delighted to donate to The Bob Moog Foundation and acknowledge our gratitude to Robert Moog, who helped us when we released our first virtual instrument, the Modular Moog V, back in 2003. We are also thrilled to work with Retronyms, who are a great company and a force to be reckoned with when it comes to iOS. The iMini sets a new standard for what a virtual instrument should sound like on an iPad.”

So let’s make music and help history come alive with iMini in more ways than one, and also support the dream of building the Moogseum (Bob Moog Museum), the convergence of The Bob Moog Foundation’s goals of inspiring and educating people through electronic music.

Appropriate iPad owners can purchase iMini directly from Apple’s App Store during a three-week introductory launch pricing period for €8.99 EURO/$9.99 USD (rising to €19.99 EURO/$21.99 USD thereafter)."
