Dave Smith Instruments Mono Evolver Keyboard drone

Published on Mar 14, 2013 synthdemo·6 videos

"Single patch drone on the DSI Mono Evolver keyboard, one shot recording, no editing.
VCA is held open with max VCA level with tweaking and editing of various parameters during recording. More details below..

Making extensive use of the modulation routings of all 4 LFOs, FM and RM of the digital oscillators and one of the sequencers switching the wave shape of one of the digital oscillators. Strange pitching effects courtesy of S&H modulation of the delay time on 2 of the delay lines built into the MEK. Nastiness courtesy of the tuned feedback circuit.

All running through Sonnox Oxford reverb for a bit of atmosphere, shame I didn't have a Roland Space Echo.

It also adds midi parameter control for all your knobs, giving you full automation on all of your tb303 sounds. The knobs have an amazing feel. Additionally, you get yourself 4 channels of midi to cv/gate conversion."

MATRIXSYNTH Site Performance Load Issues Fixed

For those of you who have been having trouble loading the site, the problem should now be fixed. Turns out it was due to the Archives widget on the right of the site.  On most browsers it would not load the full archive tree until you started expanding it.  I'm guessing on some browsers it would actually attempt to load the full tree or a good portion of it.  At over 90,628 posts including this one, that would definitely be a problem.  As a quick fix, I have the widget set to only show up on this page on the top right.   Don't click on the link if you were experiencing the load problem as it will likely hang your browser again.

If you are still seeing load issues on the site, please comment below or shoot me an email - email icon is in the Contact section at the bottom right of the site.

SPARTACUS - Sura's Theme - Theremin/Chelys

Published on Mar 14, 2013 copperleaves·58 videos

"This music is "Sura's Theme" from the television series, SPARTACUS. I am playing it on a Moog Etherwave Pro theremin, and a replica of an ancient Greek lyre known as the "chelys". According to Greek legend, this instrument was invented by the god Hermes, who took the shell of a tortoise and the horns of an antelope, stretched a skin over the shell then added some strings. He later gave the instrument to Orpheus.

The chelys in this video has 12 strings and is tuned to a diatonic scale."

Fully Serviced Rhodes Chroma with CC+ MIDI

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Offered for sale is this Rhodes Chroma in excellent cosmetic condition and as near perfect working order as could be hoped for. It has had an extensive service and been thoroughly-upgraded for trouble-free use (*remember it is a Chroma!) with no expense spared. The work was carried out by James Walker at Synth Repair Services who even exceeded his usual high standards - we requested that everything possible that could be done should be done.

It has had the CC+ CPU upgrade board installed, which adds additional functionality (including Midi) and stability, and a new SPSU power supply kit by Luca Sfregola. Many original ageing parts have been replaced and the synth has been calibrated and PAT-tested for electrical safety. The results are better than we'd hoped for and the synth autotunes without error practically all the time (we cannot guarantee that it won't fail now and again, it is a Chroma).

It comes loaded with four banks of 50 sounds courtesy of the CC+ kit and sounds fantastic; the wooden keys are a delight to play and overall the synth looks beautiful. This Chroma has had a quiet life and is consequently in very good cosmetic order, with no major flaws to the finish. The wooden end cheeks have some scuffs, dings and staining - as you'd expect from a vintage synth - but there was nothing overly detrimental to its appearance. Some people like a modern re-finish, but we prefer where possible to leave the original and appropriate vintage patina on vintage equipment. There has been no touching up of the paint/metalwork anywhere - a few minor nicks and chips are present. A couple of keys have some very light pitting and the control panel finish is starting to lift around the screws at the very edges. Old Chroma flightcases are notorious for the foam distintegrating and this one was no exception - it has been professionally refoamed to a high standard by 3D cases. Included in the sale is the original dual pedal set, the bound manuals, various program cassettes, and of course the Midi breakout box.

There are no known faults with this synth."

Doeper A-154 Sequencer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Great little controller for CV sequencing.

module a-154 is a supplement to the a-155 analog/trigger sequencer module. it offers a lot of new features that are not available in the basic control unit of the a-155. the a-154 is used to replace the control unit of one or two a-155, i.e. the section marked "control" with start / stop / step / reset buttons and inputs in the upper left corner of the a-155 front panel. if the a-154 is used to control the a-155 the control section of the a-155 is put out of action.

these are the features of the a-154:
* several running modes: forward, backward, pendulum, random, cv controlled step adressing. all modes are available as loop or one-shot.

* led display of the 5 different current modes and one led for loop/one-shot display

* manual and voltage controlled selection (with attenuator) of the running mode. if no external control voltage is applied one of the 10 modes (5 modes x 2 loop/one-shot) is simply selected with a rotary knob. the cv input with attenuator is used to modulate the running mode with an external control voltage (digital high/low cv to switch between two modes or continuous analog cv to sweep through different modes). with the combination of manual control and cv with attenuator it is possible e.g. to use only two neighbouring modes (e.g. forward/backward) or sweep through all possible running modes

* manual and voltage controlled selection (with attenuator) of first and last step of the sequence. the range is step 1...8 in 8 step mode resp. 1...16 in 16 step mode

* if the running mode "cv controlled step address" is selected the first step section is used to determine the active sequencer step. consequently manual and voltage controlled selection (with attenuator) of the active step is possible: the active step can be set by hand with the first step manual control and then modulated by an external control voltage (e.g. lfo, random, s&h, theremin, light cv source, joy stick) at the first step cv input (with attenuator)."

Richard Devine MakeNoise - Creature III Patch Outtake

MakeNoise - Creature III Patch Outtake from Richard Devine on Vimeo.

"Third patch outtake from the Creature series. This patch was contrived completely using only these MakeNoise modules, Pressure Points, Rene, Optomix, Moddemix, Wooglebug, Maths, DPO (Dual Prismatic Oscillator), Echophon, and Phonogene. The patch was clocked using the Wooglebug as the main tempo, and then sent to 4 different sources. Trills courtesy of the Maths output then triggering sporadically the strike inputs on the Optomix. Rene CV plots the pitch inputs on the DPO and fluttering CV/Gate data to the Phonogene. Woogle stepped out controlling various parameters on Echophon, and Phonogene for extra animation. Reverb splashes by the Eventide Space pedal which was used on the Echophon feedback output and return. One output on pressure points to toggle on and off the freeze function on Echophon for the held feedback effects. This patch was inspired by Morton Subotnick's 'Sidewinder.' "

"Certainly one of the Kings of analogue poly-synths, up there with Yamaha CS-80, Elka Synthex, etc.

Final 3.8 Main ROM Firmware & MIDI Rev. Serial Number 5** (for the buyer only), so one of the last produced.

It is estimated there were only around 600 of these T-8’s made in total so certainly a very rare synth.

This T-8 is Ex Sequential Circuits European factory @ Mijdrecht in Holland initially, on release around 1984/5...

It has worked fine for me in that time but the following work has been done as refurbishment for this sale:

Calibrated/re-tuned to factory specification.

Tunes in less than 5-10 seconds now after 20 minutes warm up period.

PSU capacitors replaced with long life Phillips ones & checked the power rails to be within specification.

5 front panel tact switches replaced & all 7 rear jack sockets replaced.

New Z80B keyboard CPU fitted. 2 x new Common RAM fitted. 5 x new scratchpad RAM fitted.

All as a precaution for long term health & reliability.

(Receipts here for all replaced parts.)

Key bed and all keys individually removed & cleaned. (Pictures to prove.)

Key bed even over full span of 6 1/2 octaves. Spare spacers in Wine Country kit should you need.

After touch works 100% and always has in both Poly & Mono modes. (8 channels of after touch in mono mode.)
Front panel removed & cleaned, as well as all pots.

I replaced three key return hammer/spring/flanges when I bought it & still have two new spares.
Factory programs have been reloaded for this sale and as an excellent starting point for learning the strengths of this machine.

This work was carried out by an ex-BBC engineer/technician with 30 years experience of servicing analogue & electronics gear.

In addition to the work done as refurbishment, this T-8 comes complete with EVERY possible accessory

including some that you wouldn’t find with any stock T-8’s, as follows:

1. Original foot pedal.

2. Original bound user manual & multiple MIDI revision update manuals.

3. Original preliminary service data complete with RARE full original schematics.

4. Original technical service manual with tuning procedures.

5. 128 Factory programs cassette from Wine Country and also as sysex files on CD.

Note: This latest Rev T-8 supports MIDI program dump/load to/from PC via sysex.

(No need to bother with cassette loading.)

6. Wine Country long term survival kit including CEM3360 dual VCA.

7. Wine Country the diagnostics/service ROM & manual.

8. 1 page promotional colour ad from Sequential on release (from a UK published magazine.)

9. Custom made flight case made by Adam Hall, UK but with an Amptown, Hamburg sticker on it.

Weighs 48 Kg in flight case, less all accessories which will be in another box.

10. Mains voltage regulator for 110 or 220V output.

These extras alone would be worth £500-£1000."

A final outing for CASIO SK Twins (march 2013)

"Very Circuit Bent CASIO SK's, both machine's are in dire need of some servicing. . .

After many years of continuous use as a demonstration piece, my beloved CASIO SK-5 is ready for retirement. The sound is now very distorted and the digital section is becoming very glitchy and un-reliable.
This is a clear sign that the old capacitors need to be replaced.
I'll probably need to remove / re-work some mods too, so this is the final outing for this particular incarnation of the SK-5.

The SK-1 was a recent project, I added my 'Trance-Gate' Step-Sequencer circuit to the machine, but was never really happy with the result. So again, this machine's gonna be re-worked and re-incarnated as something better :)"
