::vtol:: "financial risks"

::vtol:: "financial risks" from ::vtol:: on Vimeo.

"An audiovisual installation that reacts when you swipe your credit card and prints glitch-receipt if you type in your pin-code.

Interactive audiovisual installation "Financial Risks"

After almost a half-century long history of existence of plastic cards with a magnet stripe, they have become a real symbol of automation and encryption of money resources and financial flows. At the same time, cards also became the object of phobias and fetishes of their owners, transforming into a sensitive body part responsible for welfare encrypted on a little magnet stripe and protected with a 4-digit numeric passcode. 'Financial Risks' installation is a project designed to present an ironical viewpoint on encoded wallets as a data input interface which invites to overcome fear of impbossility to control spread of confidential information for the sake of curiosity of interaction with an object of art. The most daring users after entering the pin code will receive an artefact printout from a little cash register printer with the screenshot of the result of their play with the instrument.

The piece consists of 6 bank card readers,a hardware system of sound and video synthesis, a keyboard for pin code entering, a 2-channel sound system and a cash register printer configured to print images. Up to 6 cards simultaneously may be used for playing.

Pursuing The Dream

Uploaded on Sep 6, 2011 gregaeYT·2 videos

Some synth spotting with gregaeYT

"Three short audio sketches inspired by the music by by Tangerine Dream - part of a forthcoming live performance at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Maryland, USA on 24 March, 2012.

"Pursuing The Dream" is for Tangerine Dream fans everywhere - the dream is alive!"

Some additional details from Greg:

"Viewing Suit & Tie Guy’s recent post on the deconstruction of Tangerine Dream’s 'Love On a Real Train' got me thinking about my own attempt at this song last year. That song was done as a part of a live performance called 'Pursuing the Dream' held on March 24, 2012, at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Maryland, USA:

The museum performance was loosely based on a video of TanDream sketches that was created some six months prior. Although there’s no audio from the museum show, the video of the original sketches can still be viewed on YouTube

All of the instruments that appear in the video were used in the recording, although they show up in a somewhat random order. For anyone interested in the specifics, I didn’t document the instruments that were used, but I do recall the following:

For ‘Stratosphere’, a Kurzweil K2500 and Voyager provided the lead sounds. I believe the sequence was also done with the Voyager.

For ‘Purple Waves’, a Yamaha FS1R module played the underlying Harp sequence, while a Yahama CS15 provided the lead, a Kurzweil PC3 produced the fretless bass, and a Roland V-Synth (with a D-50 card) provided a bit of ornamentation.

Finally, for ‘Love On a Real Train’, a Doepfer Dark Energy module (processed through a E-H Small Stone Phaser) played the sequence from a Future Retro Mobius sequencer, while the PC3 and Korg Karma produced the various bass, pad and electric piano sounds.

Other instruments, including the Prophet 08 and Creamware Prodyssey ASB, were also pressed into service at various points."

"The Filtare SEIII is a multimode, state-variable voltage-controlled filter that gives you low-pass, band-pass and high-pass outputs which are all simultaneously available. It also includes a notch output which allows you to change the balance between low-pass and high-pass. The SEIII uses discrete components but is based on SSM2040 architechture, giving you a very musical sounding filter. There are CV inputs for frequency, resonance and notch balance. The 1 V/O CV input for frequency can be used to have the VCF follow what you're playing on the keyboard or just crank up the resonance and use it to play sine-waves.

Specifications:
•Modes: LP, BP, HP
•All modes are 4-Pole (24dB/Octave)
•Notch: Change balance between LP and HP (total drop with balance at center is 3.4dB)
•Power supply: +/- 12 VDC (reverse-polarity protected!)
•Power draw: 80ma / 80ma
•Width: 8HP
•Depth: 1.38in / 35mm

Inputs:
•CV (for frequency control): 1V/O fixed
•CV (for frequency control): Adjustable
•CV (for resonance)
•CV (for notch balance)
•Audio

Outputs:
•Low-Pass
•Band-Pass
•High-Pass
•Notch

Controls:

"Live jam using Korg EMX to control the Eurorack modular. MIDI is converted to CV on EMX synth parts 1-3 using Expert Sleepers Silent Way and output through the ES-3 module on the far right of the rack. Audio is brought back into the EMX through the 1/8" jack that is resting on top of the EMX at the start of the video. All processing is done in the EMX and recorded as one audio track. BISCUITING

Mute or invert each of the 8 bits of the digital signal by pressing one of the 8 rectangular switches, to generate strong distortions with an intense digital character. Lower the sample frequency down to 250 Hz for aliasing effects and use the multimode analog filter to get a warm and fat sound. You can mix this 8-bit sound with the direct signal via two separate knobs.

EFFECTS:

Add one of the following 8-bit effects to your bit modifications : Waveshaper, Delay, Pitchshifter, Step Filter Each effect contains one or several parameters to set.

PRESETS :

Save all the BISCUIT functions (bit status, knobs positions, effects and filter settings) to one of its 16 presets. You can also save as many presets as you like on your computer using the Preset Dump function (MIDI SysEx).

MIDI :

BISCUIT is MIDI compatible. Every pot, switch and effects setting can be sent or can be controlled by a continuous controller message (known as CC). BISCUIT accepts MIDI Clock messages to synchronize Delay and Step filter effects. BISCUIT firmware can be upgraded via a MIDI SysEx file.

They are connected with a DCB cable.( not supplied) The OP8 and MC4 were then patched together using patchcords via each of their patchbays. The transpose control was able to transpose the synth up or down by one octave. Use a mono analog synth /sequencer such as an MC-202 to drive your Jupiter or Juno as I did through the OP-8 and you will find it also adds a different colour to the mix. Unlimited possibilities especially today with the Midi to CV like Kenton where you can use each channel to play different melodies to drive your synth..."
