Pictured here:

Top: "Malcolm Cecil [portion of TONTO in background], James Spitznagel and Trevor Pinch Jamming.  Trevor is playing an analogue synth which he himself built in the early 1970s." [see this post for details & pics]

Bottom: "Simeon Coxe of Silver Apples"

Description for the set:
"On March 30th, 2013, Cornell University and The Fanclub Collective sponsored a day-long electronic music workshop. It included a panel discussion with Professor Trevor Pinch, Malcolm Cecil, Simeon Coxe and Jeff Perkins (a veteran light-show producer) and a hands-on DIY synth-circuit-building workshop. The final events were performances, first by regional acts (First Atomic Lunar, members of Atomic Forces & First North American Lunar), 100% BLAKK), then by Ithaca synth ensemble Electric Golem (Trevor Pinch and James Spitznagel). Malcolm Cecil and his vintage mega-synth, TONTO (that's "The Original New Timbral Orchestra") played an incredible set, as did half of the sixties electro-rock duo Silver Apples, Simeon Coxe.

I would highly recommend any of these acts' recordings!

Moog to Re-Release Vintage "The Phone Controller" CV Edition

Not to be outdone by Korg's reissue of the KORG MS20 Mini, Moog is bringing back "ThePhoneController" pictured here in its vintage retro glory.  The kicker? They are adding CV so you can control your modular gear with that old rolodex.

You'll find an exclusive one hour long video of "IT" in action here.

From a previous post:

"Its a little tough to describe what this is. It kind of works as an electronic Rolodex with up to thirty phone numbers capable of being stored in it. You can see what other functions it has on the front. Obviously your iPhone is capable of doing much more than this, so this is probably more of a museum piece or a nice find for a Moog collector."

Museum piece? Not with added CV! Take that iPhone!

On a related note, don't miss Animoog GSM.

Soviet Made SIMMONS 2 Ch. Drum Synthesizer?

"Up for auction is interesting hand made 2 channel analog drum module called - SIMMONS. It was made in eighties in Soviet Union. The title may be was associated with famous Simmons drums or may be the master was copied some Simmons circuits in creation this unit or something like that. As a result we have a black box with two identical channels of analog drum synthesis that sounds very interesting. Control panel parameters - trigger input sensitive, decay, tone sweep, pitch and noise controls for each channel. On the back side - two trigger inputs and line out on a standart 1/4 Jack adapters. The unit runs from standart 9V power adapter/not include/. Both tone generators works great. Noise unfortunately don`t works. But even with not working noise section this is very cool source of various analog drum sounds, bubbles, drones, birds etc..."

"Professionally Modified, now a retro Desktop synth Module with sleek wooden sides and back-lit blue display!!!. All the same functionality as the original DX-11 but now in a smaller compact size with great aesthetics!!. Excellent for the computer musician wanting to add an FM synth engine to their setup. In my opinion the DX11 is the best FM synth yamaha ever manufactured. Released in 1988, this keyboard made FM synthesis far easier to understand than earlier yamaha synths (DX7 for example). With it's multi timbral capabilities allowing the user to create 8 completely seperate monophonic synth lines using an external sequencer, equivilent to 8 fully programmable monophonic FM synths in one box!. Many ways of setting the polyphony of the synth (1 sound, 8 note poly). Extensive midi capabillities for the time with built in synth effects such as delay. Multi point envelope and modulation effects, also a socket at the rear for the optional breath controller (BC1). Comes with RAM4 cartridge giving further storage for user sounds and performances..."

Introducing the Mattson MAXI Modular!

Today marks the six year anniversary of George Mattson deciding to get back into the synth business with the Mattson Mini Modular.   The first public teaser actually went up here on MATRIXSYNTH back on September 15, 2007.  Pictured to the left is a white prototype sitting on top of a Synthesizers.com system from the 2007 PNW Synth Gathering.

As you can guess, people were astounded by the small form factor. Not satisfied with having the smallest format in the modular world, George Mattson has decided it's time to have the largest.  We are talking hardcore BIG with THE FATTEST knobs and jacks you will find on any system.

I had the honor to announce the original Mattson Mini Modular to the world.  I am now proud to present to you his next format, the Mattson MAXI Modular.  Pictured below are the first two modules in the series, the SQ3/6 MONDO Sequencer and the Jet Engine Noise module.  Each module in the series will come in it's own powered cabinet - one module per cabinet. The Noise module can be set to blow dryer modeo for those live hair in the wind moments.  Don't forget the spandex!  Update: George tells me there is a hidden "Popcorn" mode in this dual system.  It plays Gershon Kingsley's synth classic "Popcorn" and doubles as a popcorn maker. The popcorn shoots out of the noise jacks.  You set the fluff, rate, salt, and butter settings with the SQ3/6 sequencer.
