CLEF B30 MICROSYNTH demo 03

Published on Mar 30, 2013 orangecoals·26 videos

CLEF B30 MICROSYNTH demo 03 -- recorded straight into soundcard---no processing - no fx - no external sequencer -demo of some of the extraordinary sounds this uber rare synth is capable of.

via this auction

"Designed by Allan Bradford who designed for WEM, Dawmer and Joe Meek. He was a also lecturer at Birmingham University. The general consensus re. the sound is that it falls somewhere soundwise between a VCS3 and a Wasp. It's a very vintage British sound --- reminds me a lot of old modular synths, Radiophonic workshop Dr Who style effects.

Next to the VCS3 it's the fattest craziest sounding synth I've ever experienced. Next to spending £4k I'd say it's the closest you will come, it simply swamps the sound of my moog prodigy and eats my mopho for breakfast. However the Clefs are not without the famous tuning issues that plagued analogue synthesizers from the 1970's (but some reckon it's the tuning issues of the organic oscillators that give the incredible rich sound) ---so these are not really the keyboard tp practice your 'scales ' on ---they are however fabulous at obtaining completely unique unearthly tones.

It's all discreet circuits in this one and sounds and performs like a vintage modular synth ----two VCOs ---extensive modulation possibilities ---noise generator ---24db and bandpass filter ---ring modulation---connections on the rear are for sequencer/DIN sync ---which I've never tried - but I imagine one of the pins are for CV and one for GATE --- you'd need to inspect schematics. (Keyboard output voltage 0.35 volts⁄octave. Trigger output voltage 9 volts positive, input requirements 0.35 volts⁄octave to keyboard, 9 volts positive trigger to envelope)

schematics and lots of info here ---http://www.synbin.com/others/microsynth/spec.html

Much like a modular ---with extensive modulation possibilities offered by the switches and rotary posts ---this synth just starts generating huge amazing basslines--(please view the demos) --

-The bottom C key sometimes doesn't trigger properly on all settings ---pos needs key contacts cleaning --- please note ---like modular synths and the EMS VCS3 for example ---the slightest rotary movement ---or different switch combinations can result in the synth having a different tuning ---and like a real organic instrument (guitar/violin etc) you need to regularly tune up to the part you are playing ---it's not just like plugging in a casio jeyboard and away you go (please see the demos). Think of this more like an electronic music sound generator rather than a piano. 0h! and it's monophonic ---one key at a time ---but with two vcos's.

As outlined previously to get the most of this synth you may need to be a little more than a synth novice --- there are a rather complex array of switches which enable nearly all parts of the synth to modulate and effect all others --- these were designed to replace patch cords on modular synths ---so think of the switches as patch cords ---patching different modules together and you are half way there.

To completely tune the synth to rchestral scale you need to follow this process taken from the manual ....

((((((((((((Setting up of the synthesiser
VCOs

Selecting the square wave output from VC01, take VC01 down to its lowest frequency by pressing the lowest key, setting the Range switch to 16', and then using the Sweep pot routed via the thumbwheel into the Keyboard, so that VCO1 is just oscillating. Adjust VR13 for the fastest buzz. Reduce frequency again using the thumbwheel and readjust VR13 for the fastest ticking. This process has nulled the offset on VC01 integrator IC11, enabling the oscillator to stay in tune for very low input currents. Switch off VC01 using the switch on the "Shape" pot and turn the thumbwheel to zero (towards the front). Repeat the above process for VC02 selecting the square wave output and using the VCO2 frequency control and adjusting VR17. Remember to turn VC02 Level up.

The ramp waveforms from each VCO are now adjusted in turn. Turn VCO2 Level down and switch VC01 on. Selecting the ramp waveform from VCO1, sweep the oscillator over its entire range using the "Range" switch and the Sweep/Thumbwheel combination, and adjust VR15 to ensure that the output does not disappear or become distorted at either end of the range. An oscilloscope is useful here but by no means essential. Repeat the process for VC02 adjusting VR19.

Next, using VC01 at the low end of its range (16'), play a scale; this should be in tune, so bend the frequency down verv low using the thumbwheel and adjust VR8 for an accurate scale. This process nulls out the offset on the keyboard range amplifier, IC7.

OCTAVES

Now the octaves may be set up using the keyboard and the Range switch. Working either side of the 4' range, which requires no adjustment, set the ranges an octave apart by adjusting VR5 and VR6 (8' and 2' respectively), followed by VR4 and VR7 (16' and 1' respectively).

Tuning of the whole instrument relative to another instrument is achieved by turning VR1.))))))))))))))

if this is beyond you - you may need to get someone techy to perfom this task."

The Ciat Lonbarde PlumButter @ Groundloup

”My name is Plumbutter. My face is a psycho-geographical map of the cities of Baltimore and Cleveland. I am a drum-machine, but let me tell you I am more than that, for I also am a “drama machine”. Thus there exists in me, a dialectic between drum and drama, like cops and gangsters, male versus female, or rural versus urban. You can see my wild spaces are represented by a deer-horn, and my downtown by a factory, and in between, a vast swath of suburban developments. It is a gradient of these three areas- urban, suburban, and rural- that informs my electronic synthesis.”

Stacked & Racked Custom Roland System 100 x 4 Plus More

"edit: IM NOT SELLING TO DEALERS. please dont waste my time. thank you!

i thought i will never do this but i need dough for outboard gear. so here it goes: for sale is a vintage stage system built by the cyborgs which were a berlin school outfit in the 70s. it was buillt by lutz who also visited me a few years ago i have pics somewhere. it was amazing to see him work this thing after 40 years of absence.

it consists of:

- 2x roland system 100 model 101 base module
- 2x roland system 100 model 102 expander
- 2x roland system 100 model 104 sequencer
- 1x ppg model 314 clocked sequential control
- 1x ppg model 313 sequential switch
- the orignial cv keyboard built into a wooden case
- documentation as much as i can find.

this was all built into two wonderful aluminum cases and connected with buses, stereo pans etc. too many functions to list here. there is one large multi plug that connects the two boxes and you can throw the power switch and start sequencing 4 voices of tangerine dream stuff. you can also look at it as an experimental semimodular synth stack. its a real stage instrument from the golden age of sequencing and really belongs into a museum.

technically its sound except a few crackling pots and the usual vintage modular mold. i hope lutz the creator will attest to this later in this fred. i will also go through it with a maintainance specialist to fix as much of this as possible.

the sound is way beyond anything that can be done in euroland, especially the filters. ive done many sessions with this system with my partner from rutlinbey and i will include one of them so you have an idea what you can do with this wonderful instrument.

im looking to trade this thing for a as complete as possible system 100 or at least a model 101 plus cash. the ppg sequencer alone is around 2k and the whole system is valued around 5k at the moment. i will only sell it to another musician and professional traders can take a walk right now. also if you just think about taking this thing apart and selling the parts you will die a slow and painful death.

in closing i might add that this is a very emotional decision and i am an emotional guy so things can change rapidly. feel free to make me all kinds of proposals and why you think you should have it.

addendum: there is no hurry with this deal. im going to spain for a month next week and everything happens after that.

This Doepfer Mini Synth module was bought by me from Dominic Butler of Factory Floor (wikipedia.org/wiki/Factory_Floor) and housed in the Doepfer Mini Case to use on the 2010 Throbbing Gristle (wikipedia.org/wiki/Throbbing_Gristle) European tour. However, TG only played one show in London and the module was reinstated in our studio modular rack. The module was later used on the acclaimed X-TG double album Desertshore / The Final Report (wikipedia.org/wiki/Desertshore).

This synth is only being sold to make room for and fund some new modules. The case has a small enamelled 'Gristleism' badge attached to the front (it can easily be removed). The original Doepfer grab handle (see photo) has never been fitted but will be supplied with the final sale."

Arturia unveils KeyLab keyboard controller range at Musikmesse 2013

“'Analog Lab has it all... killer sounds, and an intuitive and easy way to dial up anything I could possibly need.'”  - Junkie XL, 2013 (musician and remixer)

GRENOBLE, FRANCE: music software and hardware company Arturia is proud to launch its KeyLab range of professional-grade MIDI keyboard controllers with all-new accompanying Analog Lab synthesizer software at Musikmesse 2013...

As implied by name, KeyLab 25 features 25 keys with velocity sensitivity for performance flexibility. As such, it’s the smallest, most lightweight, and simplest member of this trio of professional-grade MIDI keyboard controllers, ideally suited to travelling musicians, mobile music producers, and performance-orientated DJs alike. Complimenting that full-size keyboard is a feature-packed panel bristling with controls, including two clickable encoders; 12 encoders; nine sliders; pitch bend and modulation wheels; six backlit transport controls; 15 backlit buttons; octave up/down buttons; and an informative 32-digit LED screen to enrich the performance experience and aid speedy software navigation. Its rugged aluminium construction with eye-catching wooden end cheeks combine to heighten its status as a highly-capable controller compatible with any third-party software and hardware, helped by the bundled MIDI Control Center software. Rear panel-mounted MIDI IN, MIDI OUT, Expression Pedal, Sustain Pedal, Aux foot switch, Breath control, and USB connections complete communication with the outside musical world.

The larger KeyLab 49 and KeyLab 61 MIDI keyboard controllers maximise performance and expression further still, thanks to their respective 49- and 61-note full-size keyboards boasting both aftertouch and velocity sensitivity, and are designed to easily integrate into any studio or stage setup. The bigger is better maxim again comes into play here as KeyLab 49 and KeyLab 61 feature an even more extensive set of physical controls with an additional 16 backlit pressure-sensitive pads — perfect for beat-making purposes or triggering chords.

KeyLab 25, KeyLab 49, and KeyLab 61 all come complete with an all-new version of Arturia’s Analog Lab synthesizer software solution. With all-important parameters pre-mapped to the MIDI keyboard controllers themselves, users have hands-on, instant control over the huge library of 5,000 presets by internationally-renowned sound designers. These presets are taken from all eight of Arturia’s acclaimed TAE® (True Analog Emulation) synthesis-powered Mini V, Modular V, CS-80V, ARP2600 V, Jupiter-8V, Prophet 5, Prophet VS, and Oberheim SEM V soft synths, as well as the Wurlitzer V software recreation of the classic Wurlitzer 200A electric piano, providing the immediacy of a hardware synthesizer with the flexibility of a software-based solution. Moreover, Multi mode allows several sounds to be played simultaneously with the addition of effects, layer/split functions, and a Chord mode — perfect for getting the most out of those TAE® soft synths without having to delve deeper into sound design. And with 200 Multi patches conveniently organised by musical genre, inspiration and creativity are a given, thanks to Analog Lab!

25, 49, or 61 keys; velocity sensitivity or velocity sensitivity and aftertouch; beat-making or breath control... whatever your performance preference, there’s a KeyLab MIDI keyboard controller to suit with Analog Lab to boot. Let your musical ideas flow forth with the greatest of ease with these superb-sounding software/hardware hybrid synthesis combos!

KeyLab 25, KeyLab 49, and KeyLab 61 will soon be available to purchase from Arturia’s online store (http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/buy/online-shop.html) or any authorised Arturia dealer."

Korg Unveils the Kross Keyboard

"Korg Unveils the Powerful, Affordable Kross Keyboard

-Battery-powered, portable keyboard offers workstation features-

Musikmesse, Frankfurt, Germany, April 10th, 2013 - Korg announces the new KROSS keyboard. Kross is a mobile, affordable, keyboard workstation with audio/MIDI recording capabilities, AC or battery operation (6xAA), and a vast selection of cutting-edge sounds. Available with 61 keys or 88 fully-weighted keys, it's the first battery-powered, full-featured Korg keyboard workstation. With rich sounds that are top of its class, and practical features such as analog-style step sequencing and built-in audio recorder, all in a lightweight and portable package, Kross offers keyboardists of all levels a musical instrument with specs and style that will exceed people's expectation of a keyboard at this price point.

A complete package of performance-ready sounds is provided. The piano, electric piano, and drum sounds have been taken from some of Korg's flagship instruments, offering a set of sounds that surpasses other instruments in its class. The grand piano features intricately-sampled decays with three levels of velocity, and also reproduces the noises made by the damper pedal, ensuring that every nuance is reflected in the sound. The distinctive sounds from Korg's famed SG-1D Sampling Grand and M1 Music Workstation are also included, as well as an upright piano--a rarity amongst PCM keyboards. The five classic electric piano sounds are as expressive as the acoustic piano sounds, and also include effect settings. In addition, careful attention has been paid to the drum sounds, which are indispensable for song writing and creation with the keyboard.

Kross contains PCM data approximately twice as large as preceding Korg models such as the X50 and the PS60. Essential sounds like rock/jazz organ, strings, brass, and synth sounds have all been upgraded and enhanced. Also included are instruments such as toy piano, accordion, combo organ, church organ, and even vintage instruments such as a tape sampler. And unique to a keyboard of its class are unique sounds that excel in today's EDM dance music and electronica.

The high-quality EDS-i sound engine is distilled from the EDS/EDS-X sound engines found on Korg's most advanced instruments. It allows a total of seven effects (five insert; two master) to be used simultaneously. Effect types include delay, reverb, chorus, flanger, and rotary speaker, as well as amp modeling powered by Korg's proprietary "REMS" modeling technology, and even a vocoder. In total, 134 high-quality effects are available.

Kross includes a full-featured, 16-track MIDI sequencer with quantization, copy and paste, and individual note event editing, as well as an analog-style step sequencer inherited from Korg's Electribe series, for quick production capability. The easy-to-use sequencer design features sixteen buttons that are used to turn individual notes on or off, allowing the user to quickly and easily create original rhythm patterns of up to 64 steps. SMF-format data can easily be exchanged with a computer via an optional SC card. A full set of workstation and production tools include a stereo audio recorder with overdubbing capabilities, a one-touch Drum Track function, and an arpeggiator to animate any type of sound.

The Kross' unmistakable color and design project a powerful presence on stage or anywhere else. The top panel is a sleek black color, while the rear and side panels feature a bold red color scheme. The 61-key model, with its distinctive carrying handle, is amazingly light; at only 4.3 kg/9.5 lb, it's the most portable in its category. The 88-key model packs a piano-touch hammer action keyboard into a mere 12.4 kg/27.3 lbs. Both models can operate on an AC adapter or on six AA alkaline or nickel-metal hydride batteries.

The Korg Kross keyboard workstation will be available in August 2013 with U.S. Street prices as follows: 61-key: $699 and 88-key: $999.
