Virus TI and Moog Little Phatty.  RADIOKLOW is Marc-Henri Arfeux who recently sent in some pics of his setup at the cathedral Saint Bonaventure in Lyon. Video for that performance should be coming soon. It is great to see synthesizers being used in settings and performances like this.

New 2013 Optigan Disc - WURLISCAPE

Published on Apr 13, 2013 optigandotcom·15 videos

"New 2013 Optigan Disc - WURLISCAPE! Now taking pre-orders at http://www.optigan.com! Please excuse the noodly nature of this demo recording- it's just a simple improvisation to demonstrate the sounds on this disc.

WURLISCAPE represents the next evolution in the Optigan disc concept we starting with Pianoscape and Vibrascape. This disc is not intended for playing "tunes," rather it's a sort of ambient arpeggiator of sorts (with the sounds of a familiar vintage electric piano on the keyboard), paired with a repository of previously unreleased vintage drum and percussion loops from the original Optigan master tapes spread over the chord buttons (well, except for a few of the chord buttons, which have bass patterns- but we'll get to that later).

The keyboard features a series of simple two-note rhythmic patterns that, when combined, can create complex arpeggiated chords. All patterns comprise only "white" notes, which means that since the Optigan keyboard stretches from F to F, everything is more or less in the F-Lydian mode (aka C Ionian mode). This ensures that most combinations of patterns will produce a harmonically consonant composite pattern, though the harmonic possibilities remain vast. The layout is thus:

White keys:
1st octave: patterns in 5ths, all perfect except for B, which plays a dim 5th (B-F)
2nd octave: patterns in 4ths, all perfect except for F, which plays an aug 4th (F-B)
3rd octave: patterns in 3rds, F, G & C are maj, A, B, D, & E are min

Brown keys:
Patterns are on the note 1/2 step lower than the key itself, ie the F# key plays an F pattern, G# a G pattern, etc.
1st octave: patterns in perfect octaves
2nd octave: patterns in 7ths, F & C are maj, G, A, & D are min
3rd octave: patterns in 6ths, F, G, C, & D are maj, A is min

Rhythmically, the patterns are arranged such that playing any three chromatically adjacent notes produces a complete composite rhythmic pattern in 8th notes. Other combinations of notes will produce less complex composite sub-patterns.

It's important to note that we don't intend for the player to actually memorize this system of patterns- one should approach this disc experimentally, trying out different pattern combinations until you find something you like.

Most of the chord buttons have drum/percussion loops of various types, but the F, C, G, D, A, and E maj chord buttons have single-note bass patterns on those corresponding notes. This is to help fill out the low end of the harmonic spectrum. The decision to feature a variety of drum/percussion loops expands the versatility of this disc for those who simply wish to use the Optigan as a lo-fi drum machine.

"This is a near mint condition example of the very rare FutureRetro Mobius sequencer, as used by DJ Sasha.

The Mobius design is similar to that of the Roland TB303 Bassline sequencer section in that it's a programmable step sequencer which allows you to chain patterns together into a song.

The Mobius has both MIDI and CV/Gate outputs so you can use it with MIDI modules or classic analog synths, and also has a DIN Sync clock output so you can synchronise classic drum machines like the Roland TR808, a general purpose Clock output, and a Glide control on the external CV output."

via the seller: "I have here a Chroma Serial # 21030864. When I bought it everything was fine, but after storing it, the finish mixed with the foam in the case and I decided to refinish the wood. It powers up and shows all but 2 voices tuned. I pulled the two voice cards that do NOT tune and you can see them in the pictures. Another issue with it is the Equalizer does not work. If you plug into AUDIO OUTPUT #1 you get the synthesizer sounds but it does not output them in the low or high output jacks. There is a small toggle (see picture) which was a Modification done before I bought it, and later found out that it adds another 50 presets to the synth. You can load 50 presets into it from cassette or computer, then flip the switch and load another 50 presets. All buttons on the front panel work fine (except equalizer sliders) and the panel and keys are in great shape, as is the top panel (please see pictures). I also have the cable which goes from the Chromaface to the Chroma, and power adapter, and I am also including a data recorder cassette with 5 original casettes of sounds. I am including the case and foot pedals but the case needs new foam." Pics of the boards below.

"Here's a deeper (but not yet complete) look at the rougher side of the new Defibrillator module, the first module of the Medic Module line (www.medicmodules.com).

This video demonstrates the harder, overdriven side of the Defibrillator. Various inputs and outputs were utilised, including patching the Analogue Solutions Oberkorn into the VCFs and VCA.

Future video will feature the STEREO nature of the module as well as some other finer points not covered in this piece. As the module is so versatile, not everything could be covered here while maintaining a reasonable video length, so more to come!

The kitty hand scratches were a bonus for this particular video!

Replacing Faulty Encoders On a Waldorf Blofeld Synthesizer

Published on Apr 14, 2013

"Save your synth at a low cost...

Faulty encoders are a "sickness" of many modern synths, this video shows how to replace faulty encoders and bring back your synth to life.
It also recommends the replacement encoders part number,
The suggested encoders are rated at 100,000 "clicks" (average life cycle) where as the original is rated at 15,000 only. This model shows 100% fit to Blofeld, electrically and mechanically.
Price of each encoder should be ~1.5 USD.

Working time for the whole process ~1 hour (inexperienced).

The video does not recommend you doing it by yourself - it is a electric appartus and should be treated by professionals only.
The video simply shows the process."

"live track for the Eurorack Lunchbox Easel, monotribe, vocals and guitar pedals - all atop a crisp bed of xylophone loops. noisy, but this time with a beat. the Lunchbox is sequenced by the Littlemidi sequencer running on iphone, and the DD5 + akai headrush are hooked up via aux send from the mixer. this is my current live rig, just waiting on the MS20 mini to complete it! very portable, a ton of sound from this combo and not enough gear to allow things to spiral out of control. this is of real concern to me, as i tend to run everything on the verge of a feedback loop. balance must be maintained.

no longer will i be hiding my rampant interest in cold war era soviet technology, FYI

the direction i've been moving with the Lunchbox Easel is surprising to me - given the lineage, i'd expect to be working more 'experimentally' with it - but i love these simple melodic sequences coming from the DPO + optomix combo! sounds like no synth i've ever had, so simple but rich in timbre ."
