emSynth Affordable Breadboard Modular Synthesizer System

via emSynth: "the electro-music synthesizer is a compact miniature modular synthesizer system designed for anyone with an interest in low cost modular synthesizers. Here you will find affordable modules that plug into a breadboard or custom wiring harness in an enclosure. You can build entire musical systems using emSynth modules alone, or you can mix them with your own custom designs on the breadboard itself. With emSynth the sounds you can create are unlimited!

Traditional modular synthesizers are large, wall-sized investments in sound. They are composed of racks containing modules that cost $300 or more each. emSynth replaces these racks with breadboards holding tiny modules that cost about $15 each..."

Current modules include an Oscillator, Sine Wave Thing, Stereo Out, Stereo In, Pseudo Random, Step Sequencer, Any Gate, Melody Generator, Spacializer, Ring Modulator, and LED Display.

Check out emSynth for the full details.

Ensoniq ESQ-1 Synthesizer with Sequencer Expander and 4 Cartidges

"Here is a vintage Ensoniq ESQ 1 metal case version synthesizer/ keyboard with the SQX-10 Sequencer Expander Cartridge installed. The internal battery was replaced about a year ago, give or take... Also included is an original manual in a three ring binder, power cord, and 4 ROM cartridges. Cartridges No1 Giallo and No3 Rosso are homemade and without cases (you insert them this way, they work great and they come with itemized listings of voices for each one). You'll get the generic Ensoniq cartridge and also Saturen Sounds E2 Prom which has some of the coolest split keyboard layered voices I've ever heard (This is a very rare cartridge, you never see for sale)..."

via this auction

"Here is the description from the Yusynth.net website... [additional details there]

"The ARP4072 filter equipped mostly the famous ARP2600 semi-modular synthesizer. I designed my own version of this filter. I have included in the design an input buffer stage and an ouptut buffer stage. The output buffer stage is also used to compensate the loss of low frequencies that is generally observed at high resonance in 24db/octave filters such as the famous Moog ladder.

Curiously enough, neither Bob Moog nor Alan Richard Pearlman cared to compensate for this loss. This is strange knowing that it is quite a simple modification. Such compensation was introduced by Roland for the filter of their nowadays very sought after TB303!"

I really enjoy this filter. The high resonance audio level make-up portion of the circuit works great. Because the filter sounds so strong even with the resonance knob cranked, wicked overdrivin' acid sounds are easily achieved. A vintage ARP2600 is ~$8,000! Get the classic VCF flavor at a fraction of the cost.

New Hollow Sun Optomotron & NewTron Bomb Update

via Hollow Sun

"It's been a busy time here at 'The Towers' of late with no less than TWO new products on the go ... well, one new product and a major update to an existing one plus a special package.

Our new product is 'Optomotron' and uses multi-samples from the rare Vako Orchestron which used optical disks to make lo-fi and crunchy sounds...

You can layer sounds, tune, balance and shape sounds and there are switches to add some gunk to the sounds - wow and flutter, distorted cab and 'honky' EQ and all this passes to a comprehensive effects section with chorus, phaser, echo and convolution reverb with custom impulses from springs to vintage plates, room, halls and massive ambiences.

One nice touch is that we have not just the scratchy, wobbly stuff recorded directly from the old optical disks but also the original master tape recordings which you can mix freely using the WORN switches.

We've also inluded our usual random patch generator..."

"Our other offering is an update to our popular NewTron Bomb...

We've taken the original and inspired by what we did with Optomotron, brought it up to date with layering where two 'Tron sounds can be combined, tuned, mixed, shaped, etc., before passing on to the echo and convolution reverb effects. We've also added the rare 1/2 speed playback option that some Tronsters of old had done to their instruments. There are also switches to add wow and flutter, velocity (which should be off for authenticity, of course!) and random sample start (as on the real thing when tapes didn't quite return to zero).

It's available now for just £20 (less than the original Newtron) and believe me, as an ex-Tron owner myself, it sounds magnificent - layering 1/2 speed choir with normal speed strings, whatever, is just gusset moistening!! I shall try and make some new audio demos soon ... or get someone talented to make some!

But we've not stopped there...

As an introductory offer, given the technical and sonic similarities between the two (one generating 'real' sounds off tape, the other off optical disk), we're making them both available for a mere £30 in a special package. You can look at that as £15 each or Newtron III for a £tenner - either way, a decent enough saving.

If it appeals to you, until such time as I get a webpage together, you can buy it here directly..."

Malekko Wiard Richter Noisering Eurorack Module

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"This is the new Malekko/Richter Noisering in eurorack format. This is the newer Noisering and has the Richter name printed on it instead of Wiard. It is an Analog Data Resonator. Its a digital random voltage generator that can output quantised random voltages. At high clock rates it can act as a digital tone generator. Based on a shift register, Noisering processes its 8-bit information and reads them into its memory as a repetitive random sequence. Stepping through the 8 steps of the sequence is done by using its internal clock or an external clock. The change pot affects if and how many new data are read into its memory, the more new data, the more it changes. The chance pot determines if the data is written into its memory. Outputs 1 and 2 have an amp of 0-10v and give quantised voltages...

"Automatic Reggae -- because we all just press play, right? TR-606 is clocking the Monotribe's and SH-101's sequencers with different trigger patterns for variation. Monotribe is triggering the Vermona DRM-1 via MIDI. I programmed the structure of the song on the 606 so that I can just hit play and the song will play through. The Monotribe goes through a pitch shifter/harmonizer pedal to create simple chords. SH-101 plays the bass. A friend borrowed me his Space Echo for a while so I got to use two tape echoes for this one. And I can tell you, two is better than one! I am also using a Pigtronix phaser and a Lexicon reverb."

THE BEACH BOYS' ARP Pro-DGX MkI 2720 Pro-Soloist Up for Auction?

BEACH BOYS JULY 4th 1980 washington D.C.

via this auction

"This ARP Pro-DGX Mk I model 2720 (1977) was owned and used by The Beach Boys from 1977 to 1981. It was painted white to match the rest of their gear onstage. Possibly the very instrument heard on the song "I'll Bet He's Nice" and may be buried on other tracks on Love You (1977), M.I.U. Album (1978), L.A. (Light Album) (1979) and Keepin' The Summer Alive (1980) albums.

Even though ARP called this a "digital" synthesizer, it's signal path is completely analog. The Pro-DGX has 2-position voice selection switches with a light above or below them so, you always know which sound is selected.

Here's a video of the actual item being used on stage on the 4th of July 1980 in Washington, DC (skip to 1:13 to see a good shot of it)" Above.
