Synth Rorschach #21 - Mike & Rich - Mr. Frosty

Uploaded on Mar 2, 2009 DAVO1984FI·99 videos

This might be the first Synth Rorschach post that is actually meant to depict a synth. I see Buchla blue.
via Jesse Creed on Facebook aka The Passenger, who posted it when asked what does he do with his eurorack system below. I thanked Jesse for tagging me on this one as we wouldn't have had this post otherwise. He replied "Synthendipity". I think he just coined it. See the Google search screenshot below. :)

YouTube video description: "Extract from the l.p. ' Expert Knob Twiddlers ' ( 1996 ) , performed by the combo Richard D. James and Micheal Paradinas: released by Rephlex Records.
The song is basically a stange and funny slow techno tune, with clear groovy taste filled all long the song, and some of the classic aphex' s ambient sounds. In the second part of the track the beats evolve into some kind of weird acid house."

XILS-lab launches Oxium 1.5 performance soft synth plug-in update

"GRENOBLE, FRANCE: music software company XILS-lab is proud to announce availability of Oxium 1.5, an Avid Pro Tools 11 AAX format-ready major update to its popular performance soft synth plug-in, as of April 13...

Oxium has gained a solid foothold in the competitive computer-centric music marketplace since successfully launching last year to critical acclaim. Its intuitive GUI and awesome realtime modulation capabilities conspire to deftly deliver those still-sought-after analogue sounds of yesteryear alongside today’s more modernistic adventurous tones. Thanks to the Grid, Oxium’s onboard advanced sequencer modulator adapted from the Mask concept introduced in XILS-lab’s Le Masque: Delay timeline-driven delay effects plug-in namesake, users can create, delete, and edit the different Masks; specify Grid length; quantise locators; swap between Mask and non-Mask areas; and specify the background quantisation of the Grid itself, both horizontally and vertically. Sounds amazing? Absolutely! As such, obviously Oxium appeals to those simply seeking a quick musical fix and also deeper-digging sound designers.

Of course, time stands still for no one, and XILS-lab has hardly been resting on its laurels, working hard on the Oxium 1.5 update. Besides being on the receiving end of a graceful GUI makeover — with welcome ergonomic enhancements including a redesigned Double Filter Block (that is easier to locate and identify), relocated KEYB/FX/INFO toggle buttons (to the right of the keyboard), a third skin (Ice, complimenting the original Orange and Rusty ones), and much more besides, Oxium 1.5 benefits from several well-thought-through new features to further increase its functionality and musicality, benefitting both existing users and all-new adopters alike.

More than 10 new modulation targets have been implemented, including both mixers’ global levels, as well as all oscillator levels and noise source levels in each of those mixers. Think mind-blowing morphing filters, LFO-controlled components of sounds, and excellent evolving textures — just a few flexible examples of what is now musically possible with Oxium 1.5 as a direct result! Additionally, each Mask now has its own elementary envelope, elements of which have also been added as modulation targets. This allows the creation of hitherto-unheard sequence stylings when modulating those parameters in realtime with the mod wheel or other hardware controllers. All told, the Modulation Matrix and Musical Gestures Modulation pages now boast 59 modulation targets between them, making Oxium 1.5 one of the most powerful virtual analogue soft synths for serious sound designers anywhere!

Meanwhile, Mask functionality and usability has been dramatically increased and improved, thanks to MultiSelection and MultiEdition selection options of continuous or discontinuous Masks for speedy simultaneous editing. New Select ALL, Select ODD, and Select EVEN toggle buttons are available for this very purpose. Moreover, Mask Locators now gradually change colour when approached while onscreen editing, making it easier to grab them to change their lengths without running the risk of accidentally moving them. Thanks to these new Oxium 1.5 developments, Masks can easily be adapted to quickly create complex grooves and sophisticated syncopated music material — mimicking old-school step sequencers or gating techniques, and much more besides!

Rounding off this major update, Oxium 1.5 comes complete with over 50 new presets that mostly make use of its new features. So why not check out the downloadable demo and try before you buy? Rest assured, we’re sure you’ll like what you hear!

Free for all existing Oxium owners, Oxium 1.5 is available to purchase online directly from XILS-lab for €89.00 EURO via a reduced rate Group Buy offer (with up to 700 additional presets) lasting until May 10 from here: http://www.xils-lab.com/pages/Oxium-Reloaded-Group-Buy.html

Thereafter, Oxium 1.5 rises to €99.00 EURO, and is available to purchase from here: http://www.xils-lab.com/products/Oxium.html"

QUASIMIDI POLYMORPH Demo Video

Note I have a strict policy of only listing eBay items on the site and recommending Paypal only so you have buyer protection, however this one is in via Mark Jenkins who has been featured a number of times on the site. I'm guessing he is safe.

"QUASIMIDI POLYMORPH rare polyphonic virtual analog MIDI synth/sequencer

Up for sale is my excellent condition QUASIMIDI Polymorph. Designed with input from Klaus Schulze, this basically simulates a Moog Modular synth and multi-channel sequencer. It's four-note polyphonic and multitimbral, playing four different virtual analog synth sounds created from a huge variety of waveshapes. With MIDI In and Out and effects, the Polymorph can create huge synth sounds, multiple steptime patterns, percussion patterns and much more. Sequences can be chained into Songs and edited live while performing.

This unit's in very good condition complete with rack ears and a UK power supply. Some slight front panel and rackmount scratches.

I'd prefer collection in London but I'll ship to the UK, Europe and the USA, after full cleared irreversible payment. I don't accept any payment method which allows unscrupulous buyers to have funds deducted from the seller's bank account while still in possession of their goods, specifically I DON'T ACCEPT PAYPAL, as I only accept payment methods including bank transfer which are subject to UK and international banking regulators.

Feel free to contact me any time while the auction's running to discuss payment, collection or shipping options.

Happy Synthesizing (and Sequencing!)

"German dance machine from 90x. Nothing else. Some changes in the final sound with Audio Mastering Studio on iPad.

More details: audio-mastering-studio.blogspot.com"

"The first fully functional audio mastering application for iPad. For everyone who wants to make own music tracks excellent quality. Based on the same algorithms which used in professional plug-ins this application turns your iPad into a real mastering studio.

This all-in-one tool lets you process sound, convert audio formats, change sample rate, convert bit depth, cut part of track for preview and make fade-in and fade-out.

With very easy and clear interface you can tweak all controls in real time and listening to the final result right away.

Built-in presets let you quickly find the general mood of your composition and a slightly tweak to get a best result. If you make own preset that you want to use later, you can save it as a preset hotkey."

"The Tyme Sefari allows to record audio signals into its internal RAM and to play it back, just as a sampler, and can an also be used as a CV recorder. But using the feedback control, the loop markers and the mix control with corresponding output you can also create wild delay effects. Or you can use it as an audio buffer. Or as an A-D-A converter to "digitalize" your audio signal

Another comlpex and unique digital module with analog CV control by The Harvestman that invites for "hands-on" playing due to the amount of controls.

Tech

RAM based recording of minimum 2 seconds audio material at maximal loop length. 8 bit microcntroller with 32kB SRAM (no delay chip!)
The sample frequency control affects playback speed and transposition of the sample. The whole sample is being looped automatically unless you flip the "loop" switch. Then you can shorten the loop with the start- and end-point marker controls (if the start point is behind the end point, interesting digital side-effects happen). Also the playback direction can be changed with the switches. All those parameters can also be remote controlled by CV, gate and switch signals! The MIX output with according dry/wet control and the positive/negative feedback allow for delay effects with different timbres.

"A brief overview:

The multi waveform oscillators feature cross modulation which can also be controlled from env 1. The VCOs can be modulated by LFO 1 and env 1. The pulse width modulation can be controlled by env 1, LFO 1 or the keyboard. The oscillators can be synced in either direction: 1 to 2 or 2 to 1.

The filter is low and high pass with a choice of either env 1 or env 2 (both invertable). Separate controls for the HPF, LFO 1 and key follow.

The MKS-80 responds to velocity which can modulate both of the envelopes times and levels.

The unit can retain sixty-four patches in memory, which can be layered or split with tuning offsets and key ranges and stored in one of the sixty-four patch locations.

An additional 128 patches and tones can be stored on the M64C RAM cartridge.

The MKS-80 has four voice modes: Poly 1, Poly 2, Unison 1, and Unison 2. Poly 2 operates in unison until more than two keys are pressed, and which time it reverts to normal poly mode. This is great for leads, retaining the mono unison sound but permitting overlapping notes and a chord here and there.

In split mode you can use as 2 separate synths via the 2 XLR outputs.

You also get great midi spec and sysex implementation"

Bach Modular - The Well Tempered Synthesizer vol. 2 BWV 870 - 881 DEMO

Published on May 7, 2013 Stotz Daniel Philipp·21 videos

"The second volume of Bachs WTC is such great music, I recommend to study it more. Bach composed it much later than the first volume and so the compositions differ a lot. This video is a short demo of the new record, performed mainly on modular and other synthesizers. The whole recording took almost 2 years. This 3. CD (from C-Major - F-Minor) is available now on iTunes and Amazon. Please refer to http://www.danielphilippstotz.info/"

Dionysus Weeping by Beat Frequency - experimental theremin music with effects

Published on May 7, 2013 Gordon Charlton·47 videos

"Dionysus had been slighted by a mortal and vowed to slay the next one he saw with vicious tigers that he created for the purpose. The next mortal he saw was a beautiful young woman, Amethystos, who was on her way to pay tribute to Artemis. The tigers pounced, Amethystos cried out for help and in response Artemis transformed her into a statue of pure quartz to protect her from the tigers' claws. When Dionysus saw the statue's crystalline beauty he wept with remorse and his falling tears stained it the colour of wine.

Two track recording made using a Lost Volts LV3 theremin going into an iPad mini (via an iRig Stomp) running the Vocalive app - two tracks, one with pitch fix (C Major) chorus (three voices at a fourth, a sixth and an octave down,) delay, reverb to make the drone backing, then on top of that the same setup without the chorus."
