Similar to the Oberheim SEM, "The VEM or Voice Expander Module provides the Core Element for a synthesizer voice. It is part of the Luna Modular CORE SYSTEM series. Designed to integrate into an existing Euro Modular synthesiszer system or as the core element. The VEM also provides an affordable polyphonic solution.
The module is comprised of 3 sections;
VCO - Voltage Controlled Oscillator
VCF - Voltage Controlled Filter
VCA - Voltage Controlled Amplifier
This module has been designed to provide a standard synthesizer signal path. Both the VCO and VCF have a normalized output to allow isolation of each section for external use or processing to be returned back to the module through the Mix-Inputs.
Presented with minimal essential controls and with maximum control inputs. All inputs and outputs are direct and need an external attenuator if level control is required.
The absence of attenuators for the signal and control levels lowers costs and frees up valuable HP space. This design feature allows better use of space as attenuators can then be used for other signals.
The VCO is a full range oscillator sporting Saw and Pulse waveforms.
The VCF is a 2pole Multi-Pass filter with self-oscillation at high resonance.
The VCA is a clean and fast VCA with zero CV feed through.
This is the 'TYPE-1' module. This indicates the style of the module, 1 VCO, 1 VCF & 1 VCA."

Roland MKS 30 w/ Johannes Hausensteiner Mod & New Chips
via this auction
"If your viewing this listing you now what it is. but this synth comes with a great deal of extras far beyond the average MKS30. All six voices have been completely restored and socket-ed, so if one chip ever fails you will never have to send your entire board to a technician. Just buy another chip! But i highly doubt these will fail anytime in the near future. the restore and socketed voice chips alone make this synth a great steal. This synth also come with the full Johannes Hausensteiner mod (v3.6) which you can find all the specs below. this mod is no longer being sold by Johannes Hausensteiner , and i cant find it anywhere except on his website. So it is wise to put this synth in your collection. The adjustable chorus on this synth sounds amazing. you can use is with your favorite editor or the Kiwitechnics PE. auction includes roland mks 30 w/ restored voice chips and Johannes Hausensteiner mod and firmware installed, power cable. thank you and happy bidding. All international bidders must contact me first. Immediate payment is required. thank you!

There is a new 'Key Window' function, which means that you can specify a split point and only MIDI notes above or below that split point will
be played by MKS30. This needs two new parameters for each patch:

It is possible to input numbers only from 0 to 99 from the MKS30
front panel and also from the MKS30 editor program (which is not
a restriction as the highest note played by MKS30 is #96).

via the seller: "This is a Black & Gold MKII Arp Odyssey 2810. I adopted this baby from a keyboard Beta Tester, whose entire house was stacked to the roof with vintage keyboards! I moved into the world of Moog and it's time to move this amazing synth into the hands of a true Arp aficionado. This is an instrument worthy of any studio in the world and if you're a passionate musician and an enthusiast of vintage gear, then this is the machine for you.
This synths range is tremendous. From hilariously unusable sound effects to meat n' potatoes bass and leads, the Odyssey is legendary for a reason - it's a totally inspiring machine to work with. The experience of using this synth is beyond amazing. If you're making music with feeling from an inspired place, I can assure you the interface of this machine will greatly improve your wanting to play/create. Soft synths are useful and awesome sounding and I have loads of them, but they pale by comparison.
List of things I've had done to this machine:
-Repaired and restored throughout, including the following:
-Restored both oscillators.
-Repaired poorly done modulation to oscillator circuits.
-Repaired damaged foil pathways.
-Restored filter operation
-Cleaned keyboard contacts
-Stripped and cleaned boards
-Full service to all slider pots
-Fully calibrated, tuned up and tested.
All of these things were done by a VERY experienced tech at Advanced Musical Electronics..."

"These were a short production run synth that was supposed to be more in the vein of the old minimoog d, ie no patch memory or encoders. Surprisingly, thats not the only difference, having used one of these along side a regular voyager there is a bit of a difference in the sound. Some people may disagree with me but there is a noticeable difference in the sound that comes out of the old school especially in the oscillators; its smoother and more pure somehow. less brittle I would say. Any voyager is nice but these are a timeless design that would appeal to someone familiar with the sound and interface of the original mini. These have a great feeling keyboard and very sensitive assignable aftertouch that makes for super expressive lead sounds..."

RIP Ray Manzarek
The legendary Ray Manzarek passed away today at the age of 74. You all know who he is and his impact to our world. Not necessarily a synthesist, but a true keyboard player that started in a band that showed keyboards could be just as powerful as guitars in classic rock. He continued on to do great things.
Be sure to see this post featuring some of Ray's great personality. I still don't know what that is in the background.
We will miss you Ray.
via Wikipedia: "Raymond Daniel Manczarek, Jr., known as Ray Manzarek (February 12, 1939 – May 20, 2013[1]), was an American musician, singer, producer, film director, writer, and co-founder and keyboardist of The Doors from 1965 to 1973, Nite City from 1977–1978 and Manzarek-Krieger since 2001."

City of Asheville Proclaims May 23rd Bob Moog Day
"Moog Music is pleased to announce that Mayor Terry Bellamy has issued an official proclamation declaring May 23rd to be Bob Moog Day in the city of Asheville. The proclamation highlights many of Dr. Moog’s achievements, including the significant economic impact the company he founded has had on the greater Asheville area. Bob Moog, the founder of Moog Music and inventor of the legendary Moog synthesizer, made Asheville the home of his family and his company in 1978 and lived and worked here until his death in 2005. May 23rd would have been Dr. Moog’s 79th birthday.
To celebrate this historic occasion, Moog Music is donating over $25,000 in instruments to Asheville City Schools. Said Mike Adams, Moog Music President, “As a product of the Asheville City School System, I'm very pleased to have this opportunity to give back to our schools, young people and the community. I hope that the Moog instruments we donate will inspire kids toward creative expression through the exploration of music. Who knows, maybe one of them is the next Bob Moog or Stevie Wonder!”
Moog employees will also be conducting clinics and instrument demonstrations at each Asheville City School over the next few months. Moog Music staff, some of whom attended Asheville City Schools, are grateful to be continuing Dr. Moog’s work and to be a small part of his enduring legacy. Thanks to Dr. Moog, Moog Music is driven by a company culture that lives at the intersection of technology and music. This culture will also be celebrated at Moogfest, April 25-27, 2014. Moogfest is the company’s multi-day festival in honor of the innovative spirit of Bob Moog, who was inducted into the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame earlier this month."

- This is NOT a song. It is pure awesome noise
- It is 4 notes going round and round triggered by Midi from an Ableton Live Arp. Don't wait for the drop
- There are no effects whatsoever. No limiting, compression, nada
- Recorded via a UAD Apollo into Live, MP3'd in iTunes
This thing is brutal. F'ing love it."

Gallows In The Light Of Dawn with the Scott Rider GX1 VCF
Published on May 20, 2013 JohnLRice·201 videos
"Testing out my new GX1 VCF from Scott Rider (AKA "Old Crow"). You can buy one here.
It's a really nice and expressive band pass filter.
Other modules used are my usual compliment of MOTM VCOs (5 total used here, one for the lead voice, 3 for the drone and one for the sequence), VCFs (440 for the sequence) EGs, VCAs and MIDI to CV. In addition a STG Sea Devils VCF was used for the drone, a Moon 569 sequencer for the sequence of course and a COTK delay. Roland products used included a FantomXR synth, RSP-550 effects unit (reverb) and M-120 mixer.

"This is the bandpass filter that had its own signal path from the sawtooth output of a GX1 voice's VCO to select specific harmonics from the waveform. In the GX1 this resonator had a fixed Q of 5 but this has been made variable (0.5 to 15) in the module. This was a "side chain" signal path to the primary GX1 voice that uses the NE10400/10500 filters (which I turned into the MOTM-485) that the Electone design team--organ builders, remember--used for enhancing various reed, brass and string voicings remade as a standard 1U x 5U module. Has power connectors for both MOTM and synthesizers.com power cables. Note: mounting screws and power cable not included."
