The Rape of the Sea - Arturia SEM V

"The Arturia Oberheim SEM V software synth is a joy to play and to hear! Having just bought it recently, I thought that I should put it through its paces by making a short piece. The title makes reference to an ongoing catastrophe that is daily on my mind. All synth sounds are from this rich Arturia synth."

I played the Hohner String Performer dry, without any effects.

The Hohner String Performer is a string machine made in Germany. It has strings in 3 footages (CELLO, VIOLA, VIOLIN), which are mixable via volume faders. Also CEMBALO ond PIANO presets, all free mixable. Each half of the keyboard has these features. A bass preset can be added to the left half of the keyboard.

The String Performer is fully polyphonic and has a decent analog string tone. It is quite large and heavy."

Synthrotek Space Drum Complete DS-8 Clone Analog Drum Synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

videos posted here and here.

"Originally designed by Coron in the 1980's for drummers and percussionists to add synth capabilities to their sets, our clone stays true to the DS-8 Drum Synce circuit with a few modifications that expand its capabilities. You don't need to be banging out beats to play around with this awesome synth!

Features:

Amazing analog signal generation! - Wobbly lows, screeching sirens, dive bombs, squeals, and everything in-between. On-board pannable white noise generator puts out snare and hi-hat hits!
Three different ways to play: use a piezo cell to trigger it like a real drum, send a Trigger/Gate pulse (~+5V) from a sequencer/simple timer circuit, or activate the DS-8 Clone with the on-board Manual Trigger momentary switch!
Multiple controls to tailor your sound! Sensitivity sets your input threshold to adjust how hard you need to hit or the minimum voltage level to trigger the circuit. The length of the trigger pulse can be varied from staccato to a lengthy drop-off with the Decay control. Sweep adjusts the variation of the output frequency. The analog LFO (low frequency oscillator) circuitry is controlled by the Mode and Rate. VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) sets a base level frequency to limit your frequency range. Dirty up your signal with the Pan control, which varies the amount of white noise you'll need for snare hits or deep tom rumble. Level controls the volume of the final VCA (voltage controlled amplifier) portion of your circuit.
All potentiometers used for customizing your sound can be mounted on-board to minimize time-consuming wiring.
Tone Control switch allows you to toggle between the two standard noise sources.
CV Input makes the DS-8 Clone even better! Plug in an external LFO generator or use a sequencer to make some hands-free music!
Powering your DS-8 Clone is no problem! Use a 9-15V 100mA+ CENTER NEGATIVE AC Adapter. The 9V battery also can act as a backup power supply that is only engaged when nothing is plugged into the DC Jack.
PLEASE NOTE: The use of any adapter other than a CENTER NEGATIVE adapter will destroy the circuit and void any warranty on this product.
PCB (printed circuit board) measures 6" x 2.0625" and is designed in-house by our very own electronics engineer!"

"This auction is for a Dewtron Mister Bassman as used by Mike Rutherford in Genesis. I've had this beast for donkeys years and used to use it in solo shows. I've tested it today by changing the 2 x 9volt batteries and all but one of the notes is working. The note not working is the low C sharp. I am not very techy so I haven't fiddled or unscrewed it so there is good chance it can be got going as I suspect it is just the spring mechanism that has ceased and not the synth pot that has broken. Testing this on a bass amp I was reminded of the crazy sounds this beast can make. The octave button really takes the sound down and the tuner function can be used to create great effects by using the sustain function..." Pic of the inside below.

The oscillators pitch is controlled by a photo resistor, each oscillator have a volume pot.
A 12 db low pass resonant filter, specially developed by LEP for the project lumanoise, the filter cut-off can be controlled by the potentiometer or the photoresistor.

Lumanoise V2

The lumanoise V2 heve one square osc, one 12bit sawtooth osc. and 2 trautonium like sub oscillator.
We were inspired by the great Oskar Sala Trautonium synth oscillator.
We use one master oscillator under LDR control and 2 sub oscillator, where you can set the frequency.
The oscillators pitch is controlled by a photo resistor, each oscillator have a volume pot.
A 12 db low pass resonant filter, the filter cut-off can be controlled by the potentiometer or the photoresistor.

808 cymbal drone generator

The 808 cymbal drone generator use 6 fixed frequency square wave oscillators.
The oscillator frequency came from the cluster oscillator circuit used in the TR808 drum machine for creating cymbal sound, in fact these are the harmonic frequencies of the sounds of metal plate.
Each oscillators have a volume pot. and the 12 db low pass resonant filter, the filter cut-off can be controlled by the potentiometer or the photoresistor.

The Lumanoise box are made of plywood 3mm laser cut, different textures will be available soon."

Powertran MCS-1 Overview 2012

Audio on left channel only.

"A rather rambling overview of the MIDI Controlled Sampler MCS-1.

I built this unit in the late '80s from the Powertran kit, which I had bought second-hand as-new from someone who lacked the confidence or patience to assemble it himself. The exercise took me 3 evenings, if I recall: no components were missing; the instructions were straightforward, and the silk-screen print on the PCB was comprehensive. It worked right from first power-up, and is still functional. Congratulations to the designers and Powertran.

A fine example of of 8-bit sampling from the early days of digital electronic music.

I may be disposing of this museum piece in the near future."

Rob Papen plug-ins go standalone with RP-Dock

"ECHT, THE NETHERLANDS: virtual instrument and effects plug-in developer Rob Papen Soundware is proud to announce availability of RP-Dock, a standalone Mac- and PC-compatible host application for all its current products, as of May 30...

Other than proving popular with an ever-increasing, diversified worldwide user base of music production professionals and amateurs, Rob Papen’s growing family of ear-opening virtual instrument and effects plug-ins all have something crucial in common: they cannot run as standalone products, but rather require a host DAW application to function. Or do they?

That was then, this is now. Today, thanks to RP-Dock, any Rob Papen product — from BLUE to Blade and any effects plug-in in between and beyond — can be freed from the confines of a DAW host application to run freely... perfect for playing live onstage or in the studio, or simply noodling with synth sounds and effects! The choice is out there for those music production professionals and amateurs alike.

According to George Michael’s programmer and co-producer, James Jackman, the multi-million-selling singer-songwriter superstar has been benefitting from Rob Papen’s namesake founder’s decades-long study of reverb by making much use of the stunning-sounding RP-Verb plug-in on his eagerly-awaited forthcoming album, for instance. Now it’s possible for him to use RP-Verb as a standalone reverb when working with a large-format mixing console courtesy of RP-Dock — software and hardware living in perfect harmony!

But Rob Papen being Rob Papen, there’s a whole lot more besides on offer here. In addition to its classic chromatic keyboard, RP-Dock boast several other handy onscreen features, including an audio recording/playback facility with selectable SAMPLE RATE ranging from 44.1 to 96kHz and MIDI INPUT to merge all connected MIDI controllers, plus MIDI CHANNEL selection and TEMPO setting.

Without question, then, RP-Dock is a user-friendly, flexible tool that Rob Papen’s ever-increasing, diversified worldwide user base benefits from full stop. But best of all, it’s free for all!

Mac (32-bit) and PC (32- and 64-bit) versions of RP-Dock can be downloaded directly for free from here: http://www.robpapen.com/rp-dock.html"

"About Rob Papen (www.robpapen.com)

Self-confessed synth freak and world-renowned sound designer Rob Papen started working with synthesizers at the tender age of 15 when purchasing an analogue Korg MS-20 semi-modular monosynth and accompanying analogue SQ-10 sequencer. Suitably inspired, he subsequently released several CDs as part of Dutch electronic music groups Peru and Nova — the latter featuring the same members as Peru, but with a more commercial slant — with whom he enjoyed number one hit singles in The Netherlands (Nova) in 1982 and Austria (Peru) in 1988. Peru disbanded in 1993, by which time Rob had already established himself as a sought-after sound designer, creating presets for the likes of Waldorf, Access, Ensoniq, and E- mu, before going on to found his namesake company in pursuit of creating a sound designer’s dream synth. That software dream soon became reality when Rob formed the RPCX (Rob Papen ConcreteFX) partnership with music software developer Jon Ayers to develop new Rob Papen virtual instruments and effects plug-ins, starting with BLUE — an exciting-sounding, self-styled ‘Crossfusion Synthesis’ affair (combining FM, Phase Distortion, Wave Shaping, and Subtractive synthesis into one powerful dream synth) — in 2005.Today Rob Papen soundware defines cutting-edge contemporary music production: powerful virtual instruments and plug-ins that intermix innovative design, uncompromising sound quality, and musical, production-grade presets to make tracks truly shine, whatever the musical genre... Inspiration Soundware, indeed!"

"The Kraftzwerg is a fully normalised patchable synthesiser in a eurorack module!

It offers:

2 lfos that are prewired to cross modulate each other, this prewiring can be overridden by inserting other signals into the patch points

3 Oscillators, there is a global cv control for each osciallator or they can be individually address, like wise there are individual outputs but all outputs can also be mixed together without patching to be sent to the Filter.

The filter a 24d/oct diode ladder type (AKA Moog filter)

The filter goes to a VCA

There are two ADSR envelopes

EACH part of the module can be used independently just like having separate modules or without any patch cords you can using as cool little monosynth or ANYTHING in between.

This a great starter module to build a system around, there is nothing that offers such good value. For some reason the eurorack version is no longer available so this is a rare chance to get a bargain."

Two revered analog synths spanning a 4 decade legacy make sweet love with the UVI Engine™. The result: a 3-oscillator subtractive synth with devastating sonics and supreme ease-of-use. Experience the power of authentic overdrive, dual-filters and more in this ode to the arbiters of analog!

The Minimoog was made available to the public in 1971 and continued to be produced with very little change over the next 10 years. Considered the most popular synth ever by some, there's no doubt the instrument has led a prolific life, leaving a massive wake in its path -- changing perceptions and influencing synthesizer design to this day.

The Minimoog has a near-perfect balance of simplicity and sonic beauty.

HEART OF A HYBRID MONSTER : 2 ANALOG SOULS

One of our specialties is making hybrid instruments to get the best of both worlds.

We started with a beautiful 1971 Minimoog, sampling every waveform of every oscillator across every key -- and we did this for multiple overdrive settings. UltraMini seeps with a thick and immediate analog sound produced with the same 3-oscillator configuration as the Minimoog.

But we didn't stop there. In 2002 the Minimoog had a second coming in the form of the Voyager. This synth has its own wild character. Taking a 2011 Limited Edition Voyager XL, we performed the same comprehensive session, creating an identical sample footprint.

UltraMini includes two fully independent instruments with uniquely skinned GUIs, giving you the choice of vintage analog or crushing new school grit.

MAIN FEATURES

3-oscillator configuration, amplitude and filter key follow, unrestricted polyphony, mono retrigger, per-oscillator amplitude, stereo, color and drive control, a built in bit crusher, phaser, delay, limiter and our advanced algorithmic reverb -- SparkVerb, built-in phraser and arpeggiator assignable per-oscillator, step and LFO modulations and a huge library of expertly crafted presets.

SSF Propagate Prototype - audio rate delay mode

Published on May 30, 2013 SteadyStateFate·13 videos

"dirty demo of the SSF Propagate prototype in audio rate delay mode. The first input is driven by the OSC303 square output. Each delay output is normaled to the input below. The delay time and output length are tweaked at random. This is similar to adjusting frequency and pulse width of a square wave - but here the square wave has four adjustable, sequential sections.

This results in the Propagate producing some glitch percussion and tones of it's own."

::vtol:: tv404 video glitch synth & workshop

Published on May 29, 2013 Vtolus·216 videos

"::vtol:: tv404 is a glitch video synth specially designed to be assembled at workshops. The project is based on the conceptual principles of the 'aesthetics of error' and is an example of an interactive glitch object as video images are produced on the basis of optical distortions, errors in data transmission and noise at all layers, which results in interesting and never-repetitive results.

tv404 is a small electronic device in a plastic enclosure with modular structure and a patchbay. It connects to your computer via USB, allowing you to record the results or use it as a live instrument for VJing and live visual performances. It does not require any special drivers for your computer. The device is equipped with a lens with a wide range of focus, a special lamp and a square wave generator. The synth is controlled via a mechanical matrix (a banana plug patchbay) on the face plate. In fact, the device is an optical-electronic glitch-station for experiments with visual images.

The length of the workshop is 6-8 hours. The opening part is a tour in the history of video synthesis, DIY culture and circuit bending, followed by description of the principles of operation and control of tv404. Each participant will have a kit with all parts and components, tools and space needed to create the synthesizer. The device requires soldering of electronic components. The participants without a prior experience will be assisted through the process with guaranteed results. The workshop premiere took place at 'Platforma', as a part of the festival 'Podgotovlennye Sredy 2013' (Moscow, Russia)."
