Introducing The Audio Damage Mangleverb Reverb, Filter, Floor Wax & More

via Analog Industries:

"Hey, want a new plug-in? Why, yes. You do. And we happen to have one right here. Let me introduce you to Mangleverb. It's a reverb! It's a filter! It's a floor wax! It's a desert topping!

In all seriousness, it's a VCF/VCA (with pretentions of analog-ness) with LFO and envelope mod sources, and it has the original Deverb reverb algorithm that can be placed either after the inputs or after the VCA. This is a surprisingly versatile combination, as it turns out. Ducking 'verb, ducking filter, "trance gate," heavy duty special FX reverb, tremolo, all kinds of stuff.

I will admit up front that we borrowed from the concept of the Vermona Retroverb Lancet, since eagle-eyed readers will point it out anyhow. We've never actually touched a Retroverb Lancet in real life, so this isn't a clone or a slavish copy or anything. We basically looked at pictures of the front panel and thought "well, that seems like a good idea."

One further note: this is our first VST2.4/AU plug-in to have a sidechain input. In all the major DAWs we tried that are capable of routing sidechains, it seems to work. A little dancing about is required in Cubase, and the manual talks about this. It works the best in Logic and Live, the two most sidechain-friendly DAWs.

Anyhow, Mangleverb is available now in the Audio Damage store. US$49.00 for VST and AudioUnit."

Making the Serge Paperface Synth - 1 - The Panel

Published on May 31, 2013 DJjondent·199 videos

"The time was 1973.

Moogs, ARPs & Buchlas ruled the day .... all were very expensive and beyond the reach of most electronic musicians. Only rock stars or those with access to a well heeled university could use synthesizers.

Then along came Serge Tcherepnin (at CalArts) who had the vision to make synthesizers available to everyone. His first ones were handbuilt d.i.y. kits.

The first 1973 machine was used by William Jackson on a Greenpeace anti-whaling vessel (1975) .... to make whale sounds. It was taken on a boat to the Pacific Ocean and used to warn the whales (about humans ???). They were more idealistic & innocent times.

It's this beautiful vision of a time long past which I'm trying to recreate,.... keeping this as low tech as possible & using everyday materials.
The early Serge Synths were designed for the common man to be the "People's Synth".
I hope Serge Tcherepnin would have approved.

This first video shows how I'll make the face plate/panel.
Its just a metal sheet with 1/4 inch holes cut into it in a fixed grid.
A lovely simple design.

Onto this is attached a paper template with glue.
This is covered with transparent adhesive film.
It the old days they used mylar.

Future videos will cover installation of the PCBs,trouble shooting & final tests.

The planned Serge modules for this panel are:
Peak/Trough
Dual processor
Triple wave shaper
'73 Filters
Gate/VCA
Mixer

I'm trying to keep the modules as close to the early 1970's designs as I can.
.... using mostly Ken stone PCBs.

Antimatter Audio - Brain Seed - Regenerative Rhythms Patch

Antimatter Audio - Brain Seed - Regenerative Rhythms Patch from Richard Devine on Vimeo.

"A modified patch/experiment from the Brain Seed Chronicles Page 10 "Funky Rhythm Generation"

This patch was a experiment to see how the Brain Seed could be used as an interesting random rhythm generator. The patch was clocked from one intellijel dixie then sent to the seed cycle input. The main analog percussion is being generated by using the "Seed" output going into the 1/volt CV inputs on a MakeNoise DPO, which is then running into one Optomix for fast attacks triggers. There is a second patch cable running into a MakeNoise Brains and two Pressure Points triggering the delay time/offset on a Synthesis Technology E580 Resampling mini-delay (BBD Mode). Feed back clocked/control from the K4815 Pattern Generator. Trigger out from the Brain Seed is running into a 4ms SCM with breakout V2. controlling the strike input on another Optomix making the white noise high-hats courtesy of the Steady State Fate Quantum Rainbow module. The Synthesis Technology E355 dual wavetable LFO output A is running into the shift input, adding in extra variations. One T-Gates output from one of the pressures points running back into the Freeze input. Master mix reverb was the eventide space pedal using the mix knob to wash out the end. :-)

In this demo I have created three different iOS related templates to control iMS-20, BeatMaker2, ThumbJam, DrumJam. This a very advanced app (as far as apps go) if you want to create your own templates, if you want to just download templates and request them then it is pretty easy. Tiptop Audio BD808 Analog Bass Drum Module Eurorack

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"The BD808, part of Tiptop's new series of drum modules that brings analog percussion into the modular synth world, instantly turning your system into a self-contained music machine. Its small size, minimally discrete design, and modern production methods have allowed Tiptop to bring the world's most famous bass drum sound generator back into production at a very low cost. The real thing is here again.

The BD808 is Roland's TR-808's bass drum circuit adapted for use in eurorack modular synthesizer format and was tested to sound like a fresh machine coming out of the assembly line back in the 80's. The adaptation to modular format has allowed Tiptop to add some special features such as independent accent levels, a high-powered gain stage, dual input-pulse-shaper and extended decay- all this without compromising the original signature sound of the TR-808.

A widely used technique with TR-808 machines is to run the drum sounds through outboard amplifiers to add gain and then pass the sound through just about anything to generate additional harmonics caused by clipping and distortion. In the BD808, Tiptop have already included this high-powered output gain stage capable of producing signals up to 20vp.p, extending from the original palette of sounds and allowing you to get an assorted array of harmonized bass drums ranging from sharp attacks to crushed tones using this simple yet effective technique! On the inputs, they have also designed a dual pulse shaper circuit so you can trigger your BD808 with trigger/gate signals from step sequencers, clock dividers, or any other pulse/clock sources. This saves you the need to shape the pulses sent to the module and ensuring the same stable sound at its peak power, regardless of differences in your pulse source.

All these little, but unique, features provide for integrating this legendary sound generator into your modular with ease, unleashing the power of real analog drums and making those speaker cones shake."

Livid CNTRL:R + Eurorack Modular

Published on May 31, 2013 lividTV·135 videos

"Joseph Pailo and Peter Nyboer in an analog + digital frenzy. Livid CNTRL:R controls Ableton Live and digital effects and syncs analog sequencers. Joseph goes mad on the analog knobs and patching.
The music is a result of jam session where the CNTRL:R is sequencing a bass line with the SynthStepper M4L plug-in. Those notes go out to a USB-MIDI converter and provide notes and clock to Joseph's drum sequencer and oscillator. The CNTRL:R is also used to control a DrumSteppr for additional drum sounds and effects. Finally, the audio from the modular system is sent back into Live, for digital effects, controlled by Peter on the CNTRL:R. Latencies were not compensated, but appreciated for their disorienting repercussions.
This is cut in a pseudo-psycho-documentary style, mixing footage of Peter and Joseph playing, video and audio of Pailo explaining patches and motivations, and still photos from the session."

Sadly Imperfect

"Now the Cosmic Nights event is over I have more time serve you, my dear viewers. The title refers to the somewhat sad music and the imperfect meter (3-3-2) used.

The music starts with an 16-step sequence on row 1 of the Doepfer MAQ16/3 driving the Synthesizers.com Modular. After that the bass from the self-built Modular comes in driven by an 8-step sequence on row 3 of the MAQ16/3. The solo is played with a percussive organ-like sound on the Roland XP-80. Then an 8-step sequence from the Synthesizers.com Q960 driving the fabulous and very versatile Rob Hordijk OSC HRM module is introduce (never mind that I forgot to set the switches to normal :-) After that some mellow pad is introduced on the Waldorf Q Keyboard and the solo on the Minimoog Voyager comes in. The 16-step sequence is then altered to row two of the MAQ16/3 to give some variation. An odd note is played on the Clavia Nord Lead 1.

Anne used my iPhone 4 to film this video. The audio is recorded live from the stereo main mix on the Mackie Onyx 1620 firewire card using Reaper DAW.

You can download/see/hear the video and music from my website soon."

Published on May 27, 2013 stereoping·21 videos

"Video for a groovy complex dancetrack i made with fruityloops. I used only analog synths here like JX8P, Poly6, xOxbOx, Kawai K3m, Z3 analogue synth (diy) and the pimped Pearl DRX1 drumsynth. Bassdrum, Clap and Anime-samples are out of the computer, the rest is pure analogue gear (the DRX-BD simply didnt fit in the mix here). I created the song also for proving thorough functionality of the diy chop-Stereodelay with midicontroled downsampler and the diy-midi-interface with TR-909 Hihat/Rim-section i made for the Pearl Drumsynth. You will encounter a lot of anime characters in the song and video. They are from a japanese television series calles "Aria - the animation" of 2005 which i quite like. I also added some synaesthetic motiongraphics and explaining text throughout the video for your better understanding which instrument is playing which sound and for some parameters that were tweaked while recording. Have fun, hope you like it :)"
