Folktek Arts Time Machine

via Folktek Arts

"Preliminary photos of the Time Machine by Arius Blaze - this being a small series of identical pieces. Dub delay and sampler/looper with Bjillions of methods for altering samples or instant remixing. Oak, bakelite, custom switches and Brass Keys all patchable via magnetic patchbay. Multiple clock outputs and tap tempo out (a simple method for connection to midi). A pleasure. Will be added to the site with better photos (and hopefully some video) soon."

EMS VCS3 Clone by cormallen

via cormallen on Muff's

"After around ten months of sporadic effort, I've finally finished my VCS3 clone. It's as close to the original (with the usual mods) as I could make it - all NOS components, except for the reverb tank.

That said, I have added quite a lot of extra features, mostly because I used a Ghielmetti 20 x 20 matrix, and thus had extra rows and columns spare... I've added the following:

JH's adaptation of the Korg MS20 HADSR
A variation of the CGS utility LFO
An Oakley MIDI-DAC
Some stuff of my own design to buffer the oscillator and filter VC control lines and to integrate the MIDI bits."

Used in the 80's by the Philip Glass Ensemble for performances and recordings. Has been in storage for at least 20 years. Scratched up quite a bit as shown. Modded with an internally-mounted Jensen transformer which supplies a balanced signal to an XLR jack at the output; no DI necessary. Complete with heavy-duty road case."

Holy Jhoomra Ganesh!
A Voltage Controlled Tabla!

Bill Sequeira suggested that we do this special project together, and after inching along on it in the background for many many months it's finally done!

THE PROTOTYPES

The TABLA

We circuit-bent an East Indian beat box used for percussion in classical Indian Music by adding Voltage Control Functions and logical inputs and outputs so it can interface with the rest of your modules and make beautiful music together!

Two dozen classical rhythmic cycles of percussion or "Taals" can be selected either manually or by patch cord. (click on the keypad for a close-up)

For example as Ravi Shankar at the Monterey Pop Festival explains an "Ek" type of taal is a cycle of 12 beats divided 4,4,2,2 A faster Ek Taal would be based on only six units and thus become 2,2,1,1.

This Cynthiafied Tablatron uses digitally sampled recordings of real acoustic Tablas and allows you to voltage control the pitch, tone, and tempo, as well as use logic signals to cycle through dozens of taals.

MOTM 120 Sub-Octave Multiplexer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"Built bt Paul at MOTM

The MOTM-120 is a Synthesis Technology exclusive design. Based on an article in Electronotes, we have updated, improved, and added features to create a truly unique module.

The MOTM-120 contains 2 4-stage sub-octave dividers, a digital mux, and 4 digital ring modulators. It operates in one of two modes, selected by the cleverly named MODE switch.

In the simplest operation (MODE is set to SUB), a single input is fed into the A IN jack. The signal passes through a level comparator, whose lower threshold is 80mv pk-pk. When the input exceeds

this, a 4-bit binary counter is clocked with the input signal. This generates the lower 4 sub-octaves. These are then mixed by 4 individual pots along with the input signal. A switch selects either the

original source mixed in, OR the "squared" version of the input.

The additional 4 sub-octaves (similar to pulling out lower octave drawbars on a Hammond) greatly fatten up the bottom end of any signal. Even a simple sine or triangle will punch through in the mix.

Lots of synths have a single sub-octave, but we give you FOUR!
But the real fun starts when you flip the MODE switch to CROSS. In this mode, 2 input signals are required. Each is divided into their respective 4 sub-octaves, then each sub-octave is ring modulated with
each other! Since we are in the digital domain, it's easy to ring modulate (you'll have to buy one to see how we did it!). This results are simply awesome and bizarre. If A IN is audio, but B IN is from a LFO,
what you hear is a 16-cycle patteren of the sub-octaves getting multiplexed in. As the B IN signal is raised into audio frequencies, the results are HUGE chordal timbres with lively beat frequencies.
Electronotes used to describe this as Waveform Animation, and that's a pretty accurate description.

The MOTM-120 is a powerful addition to your studio. The wimpiest digital synth can be turned into a growling monster! "

A Patch A Day, No. 24

Published on Jun 1, 2013 hamiltonulmer·25 videos

"A drone patch, utilizing 7 oscillators (dedicated or otherwise), two mixers, and delightful tone clusters.

The entirety of this patch is built on moving between two chords. The first comes from a fully-employed Maths, where chs 1 and 4 are oscillating, and the chs 2 and 3 get cycling Quadra pitches. Carefully mixed and outputting the SUM into the µFade.

The second chord is a secundal chord - that is, a tone cluster. Here I actually use the three dedicated oscillators I have; the Dixie II (outputting a square) and the DPO (outputting a saw and a square). I also have an additional Quadra envelope cycling as an oscillator.

If you're keeping count, you'll notice I have a free Quadra channel open. I would have used it as an oscillator as well, but I have no other slope generators available at this point, and I want my patch to speak on its own behalf, so the last envelope slowly flips the µFade.

The µFade goes directly into the MMG, which I open and close according to the Graphic Sequencer. Was not a huge fan of how this turned out, but I like using the sliders to open and close the filter, even if the sequencer is not, well, sequencing."

Just a mess about to see how much chaos you can create in the Elektron from one source sound. You could go much further I think. Tried to go for a modular noodle style sound.

You hear the original source sound at the start (an FM machine) and then after that you only hear processed versions. Using lfos and triggers to make the sound dance around and reverbs and delays to add space and movement.
