Tiptop Audio Trigger Riot Coming in Two Weeks

Tiptop Audio Logic By Machine 1 Published on Jun 4, 2013 GM1ify·29 videos

"The last 2 weeks here at the labs were mostly the fun part of making something new, this is the time where we can actually afford to sit down and just make music, testing the newest creation. We captured some of it on camera, I will post more as we finish editing them. Here is the first one: it's YoYoTomio and I, performing with modular: 100% Tiptop gear, nothing external. Included are 2 TRiots and you can even hear the prototype of the upcoming TOMS909 in the very last seconds of this video. Hope you enjoy." http://www.tiptopaudio.com

This wasn't an attempt to remake "Any Second Now" but more a demonstration of 2 Telemarks in action!

Enjoy"

You don't see these too often.  This was the beginning of Roland's Variphrase vocal synthesis technology.  When it first came out there it was a significant release as it introduced a new method of synthesis, however if I remember correctly there were various issues or bugs with the unit.  I forget what they were and if they were resolved.  If you know feel free to chime in.   The technology next made an appearance in Roland's VariOS rackmount module which was meant to be a chameleon of sorts.  You could load different engines in it including a Roland Jupiter-8 emulation, but rather than host all engines at the same time, it would turn into whatever you had loaded.

"Here is a 1972-'74 ARP Odyssey Mk1 Model 2800 vintage analog synth. It is in great condition, particularly given its age. I had this passed down to me recently. This synth is very, very clean inside. I replaced all the bushings and contacts, refelted, cleaned the keys, and most importantly took every single slider completely apart, cleaned the parts thoroughly and reassembled after a lube-up: the sliders all operate smoothly and without static. I am not a keyboardist, believe me, but I did sit down and put this synth through its paces using the presets from the manual .pdf online, and the functions all appear to work great, as I was able to evoke all of the varied sounds the patches prescribed- pretty incredible. Also seems to hold tune perfectly, which is a problem with some of these. One thing I will add is that at some point an extra hole was drilled at the back, I assume to add a jack for a CV controller mod, so if you decide to do this, some of the work's done for you. Secondly, my benefactor removed the little colored tips from the sliders. It's just a cosmetic thing- you can buy a set here on eBay for $35..."

"The VX600 is a unique and compact analog synthesizer produced by the sampler-meisters at Akai. It's a six-voice synth with two analog VCOs per voice. This will give you some pretty thick and rich analog bass, pads, strings and so on. A very flexible Modulation Matrix allows you to route waveforms from each of the VCOs through the various edit functions. There is a lowpass resonant filter, a highpass filter, two LFOs, three envelope generators, two external sound inputs and more.

The VX600's patch memory stores over 100 patches, each of which can contain key group splits, MIDI info and voice allocation. Add classic analog performance modes such as unison, stacked mono and a new six-part multitimbral mode and you've got yourself some thick and full analog sounds! Its MIDI implementation allows for seamless integration into any MIDI studio. Additionally, a dedicated connector jack allows direct connection to the EVI1000 and EWI1000 wind synthesizers and a 13-pin DIN connector gives six individual voice outputs. Quite a powerful little beast!"

A Patch A Day, No. 27

Published on Jun 4, 2013 hamiltonulmer·28 videos

"This patch is fundamentally about attenuating clocks to produce different intervals, and using the same clocks to control the movement form one pitch to the next.

Here, we have the same basic idea - Wogglebug sending a clock into the Clock Divider. But we are using the clock divider in a very particular way, patching out of the various divisions, and attenuating either through the DPO's EXPO knobs, through the Dual Index, and through the Maths channels 2 and 3. These attenuated clocks switch between 0V and whatever voltage is necessary to produce an interval.

In other words, each oscillator is moving between two pitches according to their clock source of choice.

I have the Graphic Sequencer also being clocked by the Clock Divider, and that voltage going out to various modulation sources on the Dixie, the DPO, and ch 1 of the Maths (the fourth oscillator).

All in all, a delightful patch, and an idea I'd like to explore more in the future."

Bolsa Bass - Critter & Guitari

Published on Jun 4, 2013 CritterGuitari

Critter and Guitari on eBay

"Website: http://critterandguitari.com/bolsabass

The Critter & Guitari Bolsa Bass synthesizer features six modes of rich, elemental bass sound, a sequencer and full MIDI capabilities.

The six synthesis modes are:
Circle Ramp
Sawtooth Ramp
Analog Style
Filter Envelope
FM Pad
Bass Delay

The sequencer lets you quickly create bass lines with the touch of a button. You can even record and playback knob adjustments for things like filter sweeps and changes in delay time or tuning! With MIDI IN and OUT jacks you can synchronize your sequences with other devices. The Bolsa Bass also sends and receives note messages so you can use it as a sound module or simple controller.

The entire keyboard may be tuned over a 1-octave range by turning the knob second from right. Volume is controlled by the right-most knob. The function of the remaining two left knobs depend on what mode is selected. The synthesizer modes provide elemental monophonic bass sounds, great for all kinds of musical scenarios. From classic filter sweeps to simple and pure tones, lush FM, and even a stretchy tuned delay which makes great string-like drones.

Subatomic Software Updates "Audulus" for Mac and iPad to v2.1 –
Adds 5 new Nodes, JACK support on iPad

Subatomic Software has announced the release of Audulus 2.1 for iPad and Mac. This update to the modular music processing app adds support for JACK on iPad, as well as five new nodes for both iPad and Mac versions.

JACK for iOS is a free app that allows JACK-compatible apps such as Audulus to be connected in any way, with the only restriction being CPU power.

"JACK is a mature, powerful inter-app audio system," explains Audulus developer W. Taylor Holliday. "It's great to see it ported to iOS."

Audulus 2.1 introduces the Poly Pack, an In-App-Purchase upgrade consisting of four new nodes which facilitate stereo and quadraphonic processing of audio input. Audulus nodes can process multiple channels of audio.

"Previously, the only way to generate a polyphonic signal in Audulus was via the Keyboard node in Poly Mode," explains Holliday. "Now, you can do polyphonic processing of audio input. You can even use the QuadToMono node to apply separate processing chains to each voice of a synth."

"I'm not aware of another app on iOS that gives you this fine-grained control of multi-channel processing," adds Holliday.

Version 2.1 also adds a phasor node (not to be confused with the phaser effect), which outputs a phase angle suitable for driving custom oscillators.

Audulus development is user-driven, and these new features were requested by users on the Audulus forum.

Audulus for iPad is available on the App Store for $9.99, 30% off for the remainder of June to celebrate JACK support.

Audulus for Mac is available on the Mac App Store for $29.99

The Audulus Poly Pack In-App Purchase upgrade is priced at $4.99

A joygasmically ballztastic synthy blues shred jam on nine keyboards!

Published on Jun 4, 2013

"More music on umop.com/parallax.htm

The blues was not meant to evolve into this. It was not meant for a scrawny, ashen man-child idiotically kanoodling in his air-conditioned man-cave filled with rare, blinkety-blinking Japanese noiseboxes. But it's 2013 and this is just what it's come to!

Sorry I haven't uploaded any movies in a while. Or maybe I should say YOU'RE WELCOME if it's going to be this kind of thing, eh? I really would like a vacation from this person that I've become. Sometimes I wish I was more like a cool bass-player type dude with big arms & knows how to work on cars. Or maybe not even a musician at all... maybe just a ranch hand from Wyoming who knows fourteen different types of hay. And can bale the shit out of any of them.

Why am I still typing"

Hexinverter Jupiter Storm Demo

"I picked up a Jupiter Storm Eurorack module from Hexinverter at Control last week. Hex's vcNOIZ became an instant favorite of mine so after less than a minute demoing the "JS" at the store I knew I had to have it. It's basically 3 special noise oscillators, CV inputs and several outputs. In my demo video above I start off with just a basic output, show you how it sounds going stereo out, I engage the Noise Core Disruptor, modulate with with a Synthesis Technology E355 LFO, FM it with a vcNOIZ and finally sequence it with a Doepfer Dark Time. This is a very fun and useful module. There is a breakout coming later this year that will add even more functionality."

"Demo of the Delptronics Thunderclap analog hand clap effect, sequenced by the Trigger Man with a few LDB-1e drum sounds thrown in.

The Delptronics Thunderclap is a classic analog hand clap effect based on the famous hand clap sound of the TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines. Our version has extra knobs to tweak the sound from claps to finger snaps to snares to cymbals to thunderous crashes. It can be triggered by the button or externally. It even has a built-in mini sequencer.

The Thunderclap stompbox comes fully assembled and tested in a heavy-duty aluminum enclosure with awesome graphics. It is also available as a kit to build your own stompbox or module. The Eurorack version of the kit comes with a gold plated black panel.

"Here is an extremely rare Buchla Source of Uncertainty Model 265, original from '70 years in perfect working and nice cosmetic conditions.

a GREAT module for vintage Buchla 200 or newer 200e systems!

The 265 generates two continuously varying random voltages, two pulse actuated unpredictable voltages, and audio noise with three spectral distributions. The bandwidth (probable rate of change) of the varying random voltages is voltage controllable over a range of .05 to 50 Hz, making possible changes that range from barely perceptible movement to rapid fluctuation. The output of each random voltage source is a constant voltage; this voltage assumes a new unpredictable value each time an input pulse is applied. Variable correlation limits successive changes without altering range. Noise comes in three flavors. White noise is electrically flat, but acoustically balanced toward the high end of the spectrum (+3 dB/octave). Integrated white noise has a low spectral bias (-3 dB/octave). Musically flat noise has a flat spectrum (constant energy per octave) and is a particularly useful source for subsequent processing."
