Robocop's Murphy's Law / Закон Мерфи by Soviet Space Child

via Soviet Space Child, also posted on MATRIXSYNTH-C.

Synths: The first sound that you hear is the Q+.  The chimes and pad that follow are the XTk 30. The brassy parts which come in at 0:46. and again at 2:17 are the Alesis Andromeda A6.

The track: "This is my first attempt at a cover, in this case giving the Robocop theme an 80's makeover, where the original was an orchestral score.

I haven't seen this movie in a very long time, and I never realized how dark it was. As a kid, I remember liking it because it was about a badass robot who shot up the bad guys. In reality, it's a film about a normal guy who loses his humanity. Dark stuff indeed. The new film has some very big shoes to fill."

"The Analog Lab's next Tech Mentoring Course Starts 9.10.13!

Do you wish you were able to fix and maintain your own gear? Ever wanted to know what an oscilloscope does and how to use it?

Twice a year, the Analog Lab offers a complete technical hands-on mentoring program for those individuals who have an interest in being a professional gear tech or gear designer. Classes meet twice a week for 10 weeks and cover subjects such as electronic safety, components, circuit design (using examples from classic analog synths), etc. Each student chooses their own final repair or build project so you come away with a new or restored piece of gear! Jeff Blenkinsopp, The Sonic Wizard, administers classes and has been involved with analog synthesizers and their design and repair for more than 30 years. You can read more of Jeff’s bio here: http://www.earsnyc.com/blenkinsopp.html

You will leave the course with a “real world” education that you can’t get anywhere else!

There are no more than 6 students to a class, and only a few spots left so don’t delay in signing up!" You can sign up by emailing The Analog Lab at theanaloglab at gmail.com.

The Analog Lab NYC - Harlan Muir | Lander, You Crazy : Korg PS-3200

Published on Aug 13, 2013 TheAnalogLab·43 videos

"A Korg PS-3200 that was recently repaired by The Analog Lab in NYC.

As is typical with Korg PS series repairs, many of the edge connectors in this unit were cracked and coming apart. We replaced all edge connectors and rewired the entire cabinet, amongst other repairs and it's now sounding beautiful.

This is the last synth in the Korg PS Series, and one of the earliest Korgs with memory.

Music by Harlan Muir."

Maths 2013 Bouncing Ball patch tutorial from Peter Speer on Vimeo.

"Using the 2013 version of Maths to simplify the classic 'Bouncing Ball' patch.

The first video shows the basic set-up of the patch:
Ch.1 EOR --> Ch.4 Cycle
Ch. 1 out --> Ch. 4 Fall/Both/Rise in
Ch. 1 Trig --> Trigger source
Ch. 4 out --> CV in on VCA 1
(VCO --> Signal in on VCA 1)
(VCA 1 out --> monitors)

The second video expands on this a bit (notice the change in Ch.1's scaling):
VCA out --> VCA 2 Signal in
Ch. 1 Unity out --> VCA 2 CV in
Ch.1 Unity out --> CV in on VCA 2
(VCA 2 out --> monitors)

The third video shows a quick idea of how this sort of patch might be used in a slightly more complex setting.

"In the first half of the 1980s, Roland produced a string of instruments which would go on to define genres and change the course of musical history forever. The SH-101, MC-202, TB-303, TR-606, TR-707, TR-808 and TR-909 are iconic pieces of equipment, without which electronic music would sound very very different. In fact, the only member of the x0x series which is a bit of a dud is 1986′s TR-505. The less said about that one the better…"

"I thought I would do a little video showing how the Tenorion can be used as an awesome multi-channel MIDI step sequencer.

The great thing is every channel can run at its own speed and also you can save variations of the sequence at different points and then move between them during the performance.

I hope you enjoy the tune, let me know if you have any questions.

........................................
About Me :
MyOneManBand is the name I give to the live improvisational electronica that I create in real-time out of sounds from many instruments, often using a mixture of organic sound sets such at classical guitar, marimba, dulcimer, kalimba, accordion and drums with synthetic textures electronic percussion, beeps, bleeps and hiss.

I make music to please an urge that exists within me to see what is possible to accomplish on my own with no pre-recording or backing tracks. I came to this way of working through the live-looping process using audio recording tools such as the Boss Loopstation and Echoplex Digital Pro, but I now find for the main part that MIDI is more flexible for what I do as it allows the musical structures of my work to remain flexible in real time so I can add and strip away layers in a non linear way.

I also make music to take my own small space within the context of the many great artists who are also working in the field and as such I am on a journey that does not expect reward financially or through the more conventional measures of success, but rather I hope to find value in my work through the people who I meet through its undertaking and the ideas and thoughts that they bring into my life.
I am therefore always eager to engage with my views through critique, help or just to talk geek for a while...please...never be afraid to get in touch.

Thanks very much for watching, if you like my work , please consider subscribing to help me continue to spread my work to like minded people.

New 2013 Vako Orchestron Disc - BRASS ENSEMBLE

Published on Aug 13, 2013 optigandotcom·16 videos

"Now taking pre-orders at http://optigan.com/shoptigan/new-opti...

A new release in our line of Vako Orchestron discs, BRASS ENSEMBLE. It's unlikely that there will be sufficient demand to do a second run of 25 of these discs, so your best bet is to buy as many of these as you need while you can!

BRASS ENSEMBLE is an entirely NEW sound for the Orchestron. It's a composite of three different trombone recordings and two different trumpet recordings, all taken from the original Optigan/Orchestron master tapes, but never used back in the day! The trombones and trumpets are an octave apart, producing a nice rich brass section sound. Please excuse my awful playing here, which is just a quick noodle to demonstrate the sound!

PLEASE NOTE: This disc WILL NOT play properly in an Optigan! They WILL play, but the sounds will NOT be mapped correctly to the keyboard- they will be mapped mostly haphazardly across the chord buttons. Please don't order this disc expecting to easily use it in an Optigan. In the future we will be porting the Orchestron sounds to the Optigan- please be patient! :)

Stay tuned for more Orchestron discs, both new and remastered titles!"

1964 FENDER RHODES PIANO BASS

"For sale is this vintage 1964 Fender Rhodes Piano bass electronic keyboard. This particular pre-CBS example is in very excellent 100% all original condition, and features the incredibly attractive combination of both rough Blonde tolex and a Fiesta Red (orange) fiberglass top. This variant was actually simultaneously displayed with a Brown tolex/Cream top version in the 1963 Fender catalog, which suggests the two different aesthetically appointed versions coexisted for a brief period. This explains why there is a transitional type which features the earlier brown tolex, as well as, the later Fiesta Red top. Shortly thereafter, sometime during 1965, the Rhodes Piano Bass evolved into the more common Black tolex/Silver Sparkle top variety most famously used by Ray Manzerik of the Doors. Of the numerous variations, the Blonde tolex with Fiesta Red top is definitely the crowd favorite with regard to overall appearance, and may very well be the rarest variant, being in production for approximately a little over a year.

This example is extremely well-preserved, and aside from the inevitable knot-sap stains through the Blonde tolex, it displays in an exceptionally fine manner. The original "Dog Bone" hard plastic handle is perfectly intact, and the original skirted Daka-Ware white pointer knobs are as well. They keys are pristine, and the Brazilian Rosewood trim is in beautiful shape.

This keyboard works perfectly, and is surprsingly in tune. It is not beleived to have been serviced nor repaired at any point since purchased new, so this is a genuinely intact all original unmolested example..."

New bubblesound VCA4p

VCAmixTEST Published on Aug 13, 2013 bubblesoundmodular·9 videos

Update: more info in via bubblesound directly:

"bubblesound instruments is happy to announce our newest module, the VCA4p.

This is a classic OTA based VCA, very similar to the ones found in ARP, Serge and Polyfusion synthesizers in the 1970's.

While this is a classic design modern components keep the noise to a minimum with out turning this into a super clean and characterless VCA.

There are 4 independent VCAs. A panel mounted switch lets the user chose Linear or Exponential CV response for each VCA. And jumpers on the control PCB let the user control when the signal is passed to the mix out section. With the jumpers in place the output of each VCA will go to the individual outs as well as to the mixers at all times. With the Jumpers removed the output going to the mixer will be cut off when the user plugs into the individual out.

We are finishing up the final PCB revision right now and expect the VCA4p to begin shipping the third week of September.

The VCA4p is 8HP. Retail price is $225.00"

Hollow Sun's HEXXON

via Hollow Sun:

"Not so long ago, a spacecraft from a distant galaxy crash landed just outside Lympley Stoke, a small town not far from Bath, England. Given the significance of the event, the military moved in (as they do) and instructed to move the wreckage to Area 51 for extra terrestrial examination. However, owing to the typical ineptness of the British civil service, it was actually sent to Area 51 in Basingstoke, a tattoo and piercing parlour of some reknown in the area.

The owner wasn't quite sure what to make of it all and could get no sense from the the delivery chap ... he tried refusing delivery only to be greeted with "Sorry mate - more than my job's worth. Sign here, mate". So he was lumbered with it but knowing of our fondness for oddness, the owner contacted us and we hot footed it to the place where we retrieved one of the panels...

The rest of the wreckage was taken away by the local council by burly lads in hi-viz tabards, goggles and hard hats to satisfy Health & Safety regulations. Quite what the re-cycling department made of the harder than diamond metal is anyone's guess.

It took us a while to figure out the panel and recreate it but we managed it eventually.

It uses hex-cells for controls which are colour coded and the brighter they are, the higher the parameter value. At the core of the instrument are 64 waveforms that are derived from a variety of sources. Some are basic sawooths, squares, sines, PWMs, etc., from the Dotcom; others are long and textural and come from a variety of sources but fed through the Dotcom's ladder (Moog) filter, multimode (state variable) filter, Suit&Tie guy's 'Sea Devil' VCS3 filter clone and Dotcom's clipper, rectifier and fixed frequency filter...

There's a 64-wave oscillator with its own pitch env and LFO. This passes to a lo-fi processor and saturation unit before passing to a multi-mode LP/BP/HP filter with variable slopes. Not just that, the filter types aren't switched but continuously variable allowing a lot of tonal flexibility. And all this passes to the output with its own ADSR and LFOs for amplitude and pan modulation ... which then passes to a multi effects chain with flanger, phaser, echo and convolving reverb with a wide range of custom impulses.

The result is that Hexxon is capable of a wide range of textures. It's perferctly capable of 'traditional' synth noises but textural soundscapes is more its forté..."

"CrazySpace is the App Stores very first gravity modulated subtractive synthesizer. Using our unique multitouch control system, musicians and non-musicians will be able to start shredding in no time at all.

Featuring a powerful synthesis engine with a total of fifteen high quality oscillators, delivering five voice polyphony at 16 Bit 44,100Hz and a high quality resonant low pass filter. This synthesizer is suitable for jamming on a train or performing huge synth lines on stage.

The easy to use programmable scale system allows the user to access twenty well known scales in any key they desire. Ranging from major and minor scales all the way to the beautiful sounding dorian scale, the possibilities are endless.

Gravity modulation is controlled via the displayed objects orbiting a central point. Each object represents an oscillator in the synthesizer engine. The size of the each object correlates to the oscillators volume. Using gravity to modulate individual oscillator volume creates a movement to the sound which is not present in traditional subtractive synthesis.

CrazySpace is a universal application for iOS 5 or above, compatible on iPhone 4S/5, iPad 2 or above and iPod Touch 5th Generation.
