PUC Wifi MIDI IN or OUT for iOS - Indiegogo Campaign

PUC: Free Your Music From The Tyranny Of Wires Published on Sep 5, 2013 JamStikVideo·11 videos
On Indiegogo here.

The holy grail for iOS MIDI.  I hope it supports MIDI sysex.

Update2: I heard back from PUC on Facebook and it will support MIDI In or Out.  It looks like it will be configurable.  Striking out the first Update below so there is no confusion.  MIDI Out on the iPad is supported so you can use this for wifi control of your synths - think sequencers, synth template editors, and other controllers. We'll find out about MIDI sysex support hopefully soon.

via PUC on the Facebook thread: "Actually the PUC can serve as either a MIDI input or output from iOS. I'm going to pass along your SysEx details to the engineers that can let us both know how big the byte packet can be without causing other issues. Might take me a couple of days to get the answer, we're at DISRUPT in San Francisco this week."

Update:  I'm only seeing one MIDI port and based on the video and image below it looks like it's MIDI In only for iOS devices.  No MIDI Out for iOS.  If that is indeed the case, this will not work for using your iPad to control your synths - no editors, sequencers, controllers, etc. I left a comment on their Facebook page here. My first comments were before I realized MIDI Out didn't appear to be supported. Feel free to leave a comment there so they can gauge interest.

"The PUC is a wireless MIDI interface designed specifically for iOS devices.
PUC allows you to wirelessly connect any MIDI device (keyboard, DJ controller, drum pad, floor pedal controllers, etc.) directly to your iPad.
PUC can also work with any platform that supports a MIDI connection over WiFi.

"We are changing the future of MIDI technology- and we want you to be part of the movement. With your help, we’re creating a unique solution that will revolutionize an entire industry.

The Vision

When Zivix was developing the proprietary wireless MIDI technology for their award winning JamStik™, we saw the need for "legacy" MIDI gear screaming for the ability to connect wirelessly to iOS apps. Sure, there are a number of gadgets with more wires to tether your gear down with, but "mobile" devices should be just that - mobile. After a couple of hardware and software tweaks, the extracted design’s container got a mobile makeover and the PUC was born! Now everything that has a MIDI port can easily connect to your iPad, iPhone, Mac, and compatible PC.

The PUC

The PUC is a wireless MIDI interface designed specifically for iOS devices. The PUC allows you to wirelessly connect any MIDI device (keyboard, DJ controller, drum pad, floor pedal controllers, etc.) directly to your iPad. PUC can also work with any platform that supports a MIDI connection over WiFi.

The PUC communicates directly to the iPad via WiFi directly as a device, no "host" WiFi network is necessary. PUC uses an open standard for CoreMIDI over WiFi. Once your legacy MIDI signals are translated into CoreMIDI by the PUC, any CoreMIDI compatible app can recognize it.

"Rogue is a robust wireless connection and battery for the QuNeo 3D Pad Controller.

BERKELEY, California – September 9, 2013 – KMI has officially launched an Indiegogo campaign for its newest product— QuNeo Rogue, an integrated wireless connectivity and long lasting battery power accessory for KMI's QuNeo pad controller. Giving artists unprecedented freedom, now anyone with a QuNeo can use Rogue to get out from behind their gear and into the spotlight.

What is Rogue?
Rogue is an accessory for the QuNeo that supplies long lasting battery power and an incredibly robust wireless connection to a computer.
Rogue attaches quickly and easily to the bottom of your QuNeo with low-profile velcro.
Battery life for Rogue exceeds 12 hours (in time-trials we saw it function over 16 hours).
Artists say…
"The idea of having a really sophisticated controller that's completely wireless would really open up a lot of opportunities that currently don't exist."
- Dan Deacon (yes, that Dan Deacon!)

"I love this controller; it's absolutely amazing. They're going to make my favorite controller even better- by making it wireless!"
- Thavius Beck (Producer/Artist, Dubspot Instructor, Ableton Certified Trainer)

"The Bit 99 is one of the first synthesizers from which traditional knobs and sliders have been banned. The edit method is easy to understand. The Bit 99 can produce a wide variety of sounds but bass sounds are the best. It has a polyphony of 6 notes, BUT with a limited polyphony of three notes, you can have two sounds layered! Possibilities are almost unlimited and if the 99 patches are not enough you can save the data to tape and load it when you want! This synth was used by 808 State but the synth sounds a lot like Orbital's 'In-sides' album. A rackmount version was also released, called the Bit-01.

Nerd Stuff:
The Crumar Bit 99 is a 61 key (velocity sensitive), 6 voice, bi-timbral digital/analog hybrid synthesizer, featuring dual oscillators, 24dB resonant low pass filter, dedicated VCF and VCA ADSR envelopes, dual LFOs, a patch chain, and MIDI."

Indecent Machines Sound FX Sample Pack

Published on Sep 8, 2013 the coil·1 video

"Indecent Machines is an industrial sci-fi sample collection of cybernetic machines featuring 1.7 gigabytes of 24-bit/96khz samples and bundled Kontakt kits, created by producer/sound designer Chad Glenn. Inspired by a concept of mechanical disrepair and emergent AI consciousness, these sounds originated from field and studio recordings of various machines which were then processed through custom DSP algorithms using Kyma and other sound design tools. The result is a unique set of mutant robotics, mechanical snippets, evolving textures, rhythmic artifacts and menacing atmospheres appropriate for music and sound design projects of all kinds.

::vtol:: solar parasit & Solar Powered Synth Workshop

via vtol

"Solar Parasit is a small audio synthesizer for personal use.The parasite is charged during the day by a solar panel from the sun or a bright light. When a bright light disappears, the device begins to 'sing' through headphones. The parasite has a little eye on the end of a long tube through which the light is captured when it is surrounded by darkness. With the headphones on, users can walk around the city at night, listening to the parasite's singing in response to the light from headlights, advertising and other ambient lighting.

The principle of the parasite is very simple: it is a small square-wave generator for IC 555 with integrated photoresistor that controls the frequency of the oscillator. This kind of devices is sometimes called 'light theremin'.

Rattly And Raw Kontakt Sample Instruments

"Dirty, cheap, cranky, crusty little gems to fill those cracks in yourproductions. These instruments are designed to be 'that little extra thing' that so many tracks end up needing.

In the real world, most of these instruments have maybe only a fewplayable notes or at best a limited range!

Rattly And Raw have greatly expanded the playability and range of theseoriginal instruments by using state of the art time stretching softwareand meticulously hand tuning each mechanism.

The emphasis here is on imperfection and character. These instruments are not posh, and not slick, but they might inspire new directions oraugment what you already have in surprising ways. The unique sound ofthese samples comes from the instruments themselves, not fromadditional processing! That being said... on most instruments we'veincluded a LoFi button and a processing knob or two that will let you dirt 'em up a little more...

We're starting with four products:

The First Incarnation, Cold War Listening Station,The Marxophone and Student Vibraphone

THERE IS ALSO A FREE INSTRUMENT FOR DOWNLOAD IN THESTORE!

The First Incarnation is a collection of sixteen rattly, scratchy, dirty, plucked, scraped, pressed and smacked, unusual Rattly and Rawinstruments!

The instruments have all come from quirky shops and chance meetings and have been used on many sessions by the Rattly and Raw team. *This pack contains unusual and rare instruments like the Rheem Key Bass,Taishokoto, Appalachian Dulcimer, Pitched Cowbells, Plucked Piano and Zither strings and MUCH MUCH MORE!

As a further introductory offer The First Incarnation also comes with ourRattly and Raw percussion instrument (88 keys of percussion and drumhits with velocity management and LoFi processing) FOR FREE!

Cold War Listening Station contains massive percussion hits, calamitous found material impacts and bizarre instruments, all soaked in the huge paranoid reverberations from this monstrous facility. We took insound making devices and used what was there as well, the results aredefinitely unusual!

These were all recorded on location at an abandoned listening stationhidden in central europe. Our intrepid sampling team overcame wild dogs, lurking strangers, rats, guards and creeping terror to bring youthese unique sounds! It was a massive challenge to get clean enoughdecay tails on these huge and spooky sounds as this abandoned stationwas open in parts to the elements (which brought its own challenges)and also every tiny noise was amplified massively by the architecture!!As a result, this uniquely disjarring and sonically intriguing pack is theresult of luck, stealth and opportunism and signal to noise management!

The Marxophone contains one lovingly sampled original marxophone with multiple layers and velocity sensitive trill action (as well as multipleinstruments with different performance options!) It's a very distinctivesound and one you'll probably recognise!

This also has a custom velocity management script to really aid playability and control of the trill function and a LoFi script with drivecontrol to take this unique instrument to some new places! We've alsoincluded ELEVEN variations on the standard Marxophone instrument.

Student Vibraphone This short-scale student vibraphone has a uniqueattacky, clanky goodness that we had to share! Great for getting that vibes sound across with no trace of 'posh' or 'refined' at all! There are afew instrument options here so you can get a good range of sounds fromthis limited, but very usable instrument!"

"This is the Alien Brain, the pocket-sized 100% analogue synthesizer for covert operations in the field of electronic music! (until you switch it on and plug it in, then is screams, roars, rumbles and crackles and even lights up, just as you might expect an alien's brain to do when you put some electricity through it!)

Described as "The Ocarina From Hell" by a Reading Sound Engineer, It has three pulse-wave oscillators - each with a very wide frequency range from rhythmical clicking up to almost dog-whistle territory, a band-pass filter and a volume control
- all controlled by light-sensors. It is a loud, fun and very tactile little instrument, with a wide range of tones, textures and timbres available. It is powered by a 9v battery (included) and plugs in via 1/4 jack to any guitar/bass amp or PA, mixer, fx-pedals, computer etc. (It does not have an in-built speaker)

Each one is unique in appearance - as you can see in the photos, as I make each one individually. They are also very robust, and the first ones i made 7 years ago are still working fine today. Previous owners have used them in studio recordings and productions, performances, synthesis lectures, playing with their children, jamming with other musicians, testing sound-systems, and numerous other things. The one thing they depend on is a good bright light source, so you can have a lot of fun experimenting with flickering strip-lights (laser-like dive bomb sounds) strobe lights, candles, or just using your fingers to control how much light lands on each sensor."

Little Phatty CV Output Modification

Published on Sep 9, 2013 MoogMusicInc·253 videos

"This modification comes with a Little Phatty gig bag and full tune up to bring your Little Phatty back to original factory specification.

The Little Phatty CV Out modification unlocks a host of modular control features and flexibility tucked away in your Little Phatty.
It allows you to connect to Moogerfoogers, synthesizers and other analog gear to create sounds in new ways not possible with MIDI.
You also gain access to the Little Phatty's analog noise source for creating powerful analog snare drums and percussion effects.

Mod Bus Output- Provides access to any selected modulation source. Send an LFO to your Moogerfooger, or select noise as a source and patch it to the Phatty's audio input for hard-hitting snare drums and percussion effects.

Pitch Output- As the pitch of your synthesizer increases, so does the control voltage. When this output is connected to any control input on a Moogerfooger or analog synthesizer, that control inputs value will increase as higher notes are played and decrease as lower notes are played.

Gate Output- Each time a note is pressed, a gate signal is sent and when that note is released, the signal ends. This output can be used creatively with the Phatty's built in arpeggiator to create rhythmic, drone, percussive effects in analog synthesizers and Moogerfoogers.

Volume Envelope Output- The shape of your Volume Envelope is outputted as a control voltage. When connected to other analog devices, an envelope yields dynamic and evolving control information that can be used in a variety musical ways.

Filter Envelope Output- The shape of your Filter Envelope is outputted as a control voltage. When connected to other analog devices, an envelope yields dynamic and evolving control information that can be used in a variety musical ways."

Update: and the official press release:

"ASHEVILLE, NC – September 9, 2013 – Moog Music today announced the discontinuation of the Little Phatty Stage II analog synthesizer. Moog plans to continue building a limited quantity of units at their factory in downtown Asheville while parts and materials last, which is not expected to be more than two months. The Little Phatty was released in 2006 as a tribute to the life and legacy of Moog Music founder and synthesizer pioneer, Bob Moog. Following the passing of Dr. Moog, The Little Phatty was the first Moog synthesizer designed by Moog Music's Chief Engineer, Cyril Lance.

“After Bob’s passing, we faced the immense challenge of creating a new synthesizer that would embody the values that we all treasured in Bob," Lance recalls. “We worked around the clock to develop an instrument that was founded on his continually forward-looking view of synthesis."
