"A patch idea for using the Cat Girl Synth Dual Real Ring Modulator with a Yusynth Voltage Controlled Quadrature LFO to two VCO's as modulators for the RM's.

The carrier VCO is pitched by a Q119 sequential controller from synthesizers.com. Other modulations are from an AM radio and cross-vco feedback into each of the modulator VCO's. These are the initial sounds. The beginning sound is one half of the modulated pair, gated for rhythm and a delay applied.

All other sounds are from the modular synth as well. Recorded in real-time to Cubase. Video processed by Final Cut Pro."

"The classic MS-20 –recreated in mini size!

An analog synthesizer featuring the original circuitry from 1978

Korg’s MS-20 monophonic synthesizer, first introduced in 1978, is still a coveted instrument to this day, thanks to its thick, robust sound, its powerful, iconic analog filter, and its versatile patching options. Over 300,000 people have enjoyed the distinct MS-20 sounds from the original, from Korg’s MS-20 plug-in synth, or the iMS-20 iPad app.

Today, the sounds of the MS-20 have been reborn in hardware, as the MS-20 Mini. The same engineers who developed the original MS-20 have perfectly reproduced its circuitry and fit into a body that’s been shrunk to 86% of the original size, yet retains the distinctive look of the original.

The MS-20 mini will amaze you with its absolutely authentic analog synth sound.

Comments from the developers
Fifty years have passed since Korg was founded, and we have once again put our hand to an analog synthesizer. We took particular care to deliver smooth parameter adjustments, which are a distinctive feature of analog synthesizers. We also took special care to completely reproduce the original specifications of the MS-20. The analog circuits we designed 35 years ago still deliver the same unbeatable, powerful sound, from the ultra-low to the ultra-high range..."

Sequential Circuits Prophet T8 Keyboard Action Restoration

Published on Sep 15, 2013 New England Analog LLC·26 videos

"This video shows us restoring the keyboard and aftertouch mechanism on a Sequential Prophet T8. Not pictured here are the tightening of the key bushings and the calibration of the aftertouch and action capstans. This needs to be done for each note after the keyboard action has been restored. The results are fantastic if done correctly and the T8 action will feel light and responsive, not sluggish and quirky."

"I had this patch up and running for like 3 days, which is kind of a record for me, had to document it a little ;)

Basically all the sequences in the vid are slight variations of the same basic patch, centered around 4 slopes interacting through 2 comp's.

I was gratified with a lot of different sounds, tonalities and textures from percussion to violin, piano to bassoon etc... mostly self running, but with a lot of interaction possibilities.

"A mostly live performed synth blues cover of an old Skip James song; Hard Time Killing Floor Blues. This version is a tad more sombre and massively more bassey.

Shot on camera phones (one of which ran out of battery! Argh) and edited in After Effects.

Played on an Akai MPC1000 running JJOS2XL, sequencing a Moog Voyager RME and sending lots of samples through Mooger Fooger guitar pedals. Recorded onto 4 track cassette tape using a Tascam 424 (not in shot). Eventide Space on aux send and vocals through a MoogerFooger MF104Z Delay.

Mixed in Reaper and mastered in Izotope Ozone 5.

If you have any suggestions for what songs to cover next. Let me know in the comments..."

Pics of the inside below.

"Here are some technical highlights [via synthmuseum.com]:
"Realization of super-high-quality sound by 12-bit sampling technology.
6-voice polyphonic performance is possible in connection with MIDI keyboards, synthesizers, sequencers and many others.
Realization of sampling time up to 8 seconds (@ 4 kHz, 1 second @ 32 kHz).
A short sampled sound can be continuously played with no time restrictions and without sounding awkward. The S612 contains an advanced scanning mode system with 'looping' and 'alternating' modes. [This mode plays continuously through the sample, alternately playing it frontwards and then backwards]
The best splicing point for 'looping' can be selected instantly by the automatic splicing system.
A splicing point can be selected at any time by switching to the manual splice mode.
Because the starting or ending point of the sample can be selected at any time, it is possible to play the sound after elimination of an undesired portion of the sample. It is also possible to reproduce the sample in reverse.
It is possible to overdub samples and accumulate various sounds infinitely.
The S612 is equipped with an LFO (sine wave only), which can add vibrato effects with a delay.
The S612 is also equipped with continuous variable-pass low-pass filters for adding a milder touch to samples.
Any type of sound can be tuned to a designated pitch by transposing it by a half step. This can also be done by tuning +/- 100 cent. The sound can then be stored on disk.
The S612 is rack mountable (EIA/2U) for excellent operation in the studio as well as at live performances. It can be handled with ease and offers astonishing performance."
The Akai S612 (along with most of Akai's sampler technology) was designed by David Cockerell, formerly with EMS and Electro-Harmonix. He joined Akai in 1985 when Electro-Harmonix went under. While at EH, he had been working with digital effects processors including digital delays. He designed a digital delay machine that could capture a sound/sample which could be triggered. He developed this technology into a one-shot sampler. When he went over to Akai, this became the S612. David still leads Akai's London Research and Development team.

"Classic 12 bit sampler (upgraded version of Akai S612) Has a much nicer sound than S900/S950 i suspect simpler 12 bit circuitry and better D/A and A/D n the S612/S7000 makes all the difference...

see review soundonsound.com/sos/mar01/articles/retroakais700.asp

For my money, however, it's when you reduce the bandwidth to something less than, say, 6.3kHz and sample a drum loop that the S700 really comes into its own. Bass drums pulse and thump, hi-hat is reduced to a dull tick, and snares become crunchy explosions of something like white noise. Suddenly even the most uninspiring loops from sterile 'session drummer' sample CDs can be transformed into the kind of grainy, lo-fi breakbeats that would make many a hip hop producer proud. Magical.'"

Octave-Plateau CATStick modulating Roland Jupiter 4's Filter

Published on Sep 14, 2013 zibbybone·126 videos

"Just received this Catstick and have the X+Y CV out running into the JP-4's filter input. The X+ adds LFO #1 (set as triangle wave) and X- adds LFO #2 (originally set as square wave, but I switch it up near the end). Y+ raises the filter cut-off and Y- lowers the filter cut-off. I've got the TR-707 triggering the JP's arpeggiator so I can tweak the CATStick. The JP-4's audio is running through the Eventide Space and the TR-707 is running through the Boss TE-2 Tera Echo pedal, but I have the effect level turned down quite a bit because its effect can get pretty wild and pronounced.

I'll try to upload more videos of the Cat Stick as I learn more about it.

Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe to be notified of future videos of electronic instrument demos and such!"
