1978 JEN GS-3000 SYNTAR VINTAGE ELECTRIC GUITAR SYNTH

"For sale is this vintage 1978 Jen GS-3000 Syntar electric guitar synthesizer. This particular example, serial number 013, is in very excellent all original condition and includes; the original case, the original pickup and cable, and the original template settings cards. The JEN Syntar is a very powerful Moog-style mono-synth, having been modeled after the MiniMoog, and features: (2) VCOs utilizing triangle, saw, and square wave forms, relative tuning for 5ths and 7ths, independent ADR envelopes for the VCA and VCF, an LFO, and a Glide control. This particular desktop synth unit is quite rare, and this is an extremely early production example. The original pickup includes a non-original plastic surround. This rare unit is being sold with No Reserve and FREE Worldwide shipping, so don't miss out on this awesome addition to your arsenal, as the highest bidder will win... regardless of price!

As mentioned, the design for Jen Syntar was inspired by the Moog MiniMoog, and is effectively a similar sounding mono-synth created specifically for guitar. It has the basic signal-layout of the old Moog. Instead of a keyboard there is a 6-pin dim input jack on the front for the original glue-on guitar pickup.

It is a simple but quite powerful mono-synth. Two VCOs capable of tri, saw and pulse/square waves. VCO2 is tuned relative to VCO1 for some fat detuning or those classic 5ths and 7ths. Sound is fed though a lowpass VCF (24dB/oct) before reaching the VCA. VCA and VCF have independent envelopes of the atypical ADS variety (no release).

These rarely come available for purchase, and this particular unit has been completely serviced and calibrated. Don’t miss this opportunity to get a great vintage guitar synth for a fraction of the price of a MiniMoog.

Since the Jen Syntar was originally produced in Italy for European distribution, it is setup for 220v. For an additional $50, we can include a step up transformer for use with 100v/110v power sources."

Oberheim OB1 sound demo

Published on Sep 20, 2013 Lackan110f·4 videos

"A sound demo just tweaking the OB1. No extra FX used, recorded straight from the synth in to the camera. Unfortunately the louder parts has some camera dist to it, but I hope you can hear beyond that and hear the real sound.

The OB1 is especially great for fat basses since it has one sub-osc to each oscillator, and both 2-pole and 4-pole filter. But it can also produce some weird sync- or ring modulated sounds. A very good bread'n'butter mono synth.

I have tried to cover most of the features, but I am sure I have missed out some things. But this will at least cover the basics I think."

RD4 - Groovebox

iTunes: RD4 - Groovebox - mikrosonic

"RD4 is a little workstation. 4 Tracks. It comes with 1 Synthesizer, called Analog: 3 oscillators, 1 AASR and 1 Filter section. The Analog has it's own grid editor. Very minimal: you can only set the keys and the length of the notes. A Baseline (r): 4 waveforms to chose from, a filter section and its step by step editor. The Bassline is certainly the module that I like the least in this App... To finish, 1 Drum Machine. Its only "shaping" parameter available for an instrument is a Punch button.
As I said, RD4 is a 4 track workstation. The thing really cool is that you can use any of this instrument in any track...
You can use it with 4 Drum Machine, or 3 Bassline and 1 analog...
As you like!
You also have a Mixer, 4 Effects (Distortion, Phaser, Delay and Reverb). one Send for each track but 4 send 4 each Drum instruments.
A Pattern Mode also allows you to play a pattern for each track (8 patterns can be saved for each instrument) from 1 to 2, to 3, and so on. 2 random modes are also available.

To conclude, the App is very well done but...
The Analog Synthesizer is really cool. It is the module I prefer in this App. You have enough parameters to shape your sound as you like.
The Bassline, as I said, is the one I love the least... Not fat enough, for me...
The 2 Drum Machines are cool, but it would be nice to be able to create a custom kit...
The live record mode is really cool, but more sharing features. At this moment, we only have: iTunes File Sharing,SoundCloud and Dropbox. Ok, it's cool, but I really need to have the AudioCopy / Paste at very least.
Hard to rate it, ...
Because RD4 is very well done, very simple to understand, but I want more! :-)
At the same time, it is only version 1 of this App...
I'm sure that it has the potential to be a Killer App..."

Waldorf Announces Availability of Pulse 2 Analog Synthesizer

"BAD NEUENAHR, GERMANY: high-quality synthesizer developer Waldorf is proud to announce availability of its eagerly-awaited Pulse 2 Analog Synthesizer, a cutting-edge reincarnation of the company’s peerless Pulse series, as of Sept 20...

Waldorf’s Pulse 2 Analog Synthesizer is proof positive that good things can come to those that wait. For ever since this high-quality synthesizer developer discontinued its original rack-mountable Pulse and Pulse+ programmable analogue monosynths boasting ballsy bass tones and legendary leads beyond compare, those Nineties electronic music- dominating sounds have been severely sought after by those in the know. Which was exactly what drove Waldorf into development overdrive to produce an all-new Pulse fit for the 21st Century. Meine Damen und Herren, thank you for being patient; please welcome... Pulse 2!

As an all-new, all-analogue synthesizer design, Pulse 2 flawlessly delivers exactly what synth connoisseurs around the world have been truly craving for quite some time — three analogue oscillators living in perfect harmony with a VCF (Voltage- Controlled Filter), yet Waldorf did not stop there: the fresh filter circuits in the Pulse 2 now offer 12dB Highpass and Bandpass modes in addition to 24dB/12dB Lowpass for strengthened sound-sculpting flexibility, while Waldorf has helpfully added analogue Filter FM, two Overdrive circuits, and Ring Modulation from OSC 3, together with Paraphonic and Unison modes allowing up to eight-voice chords — a fantastic feature found on Waldorf’s recently-released Rocket Synthesizer.

Like Waldorf’s well-received Blofeld before it, Pulse 2 is housed in a sturdy metal desktop casing. Alongside its generous 128x64-character backlit LCD, eight eye-catching stainless steel knobs are available to nimbly navigate through the parameter matrix — logically laid out across the front panel for all to see at all times, set the master Volume, and easily edit display-accessible parameters.

Connectivity comes well catered for courtesy of USB, MIDI In, MIDI Out, Ext In (external analogue signal input), line OUT, and headphone output — not forgetting, of course, CV Out (supporting both the V/octave and Hz/V standards) and Gate Out (V-Trigger- and S-Trigger-compatible), allowing a myriad of suitably equipped older (or newer) synths to be connected to the Pulse 2 to mirror whatever MIDI ‘note’ information is being played by the Pulse 2, including the output of its powerful ARP (arpeggiator). And if that’s not enough to be getting on with, the CV Out can even be modulated in the eight-slot modulation Matrix, making for even more tantalising tone colours and performance possibilities!

Alongside analogue must-haves like a noise generator, Pulsewidth modulation, and hard Sync, other notable features include an Alternating Pulsewidth Modulation mode new to the Pulse 2 (offering a dense PWM sound without affecting perceived loudness), and an XOR Osc mode (that is a binary XOR combination of two PWM oscillators with two distinct output levels — high and low only — capable of producing inharmonic spectra unlike anything associated with any analogue synthesizer other than Waldorf’s original Pulse) — all of which, of course, contribute to kickstarting those still sought- after sounds right here, right now in the 21st Century. Speaking of which, 500 onboard sound programs should be more than enough to keep the most diehard synthesist smiling! What’s more, all are backwards-compatible with the original Pulse series, so original Pulse owners can quickly transfer their favourite sounds to their new Pulse 2 via MIDI (dump).

Thanks, then, to the timely arrival of the Pulse 2 Analog Synthesizer, readily reincarnated ballsy bass tones and legendary leads beyond compare can all be yours with much more besides in a truly 21st Century compact and bijou performance package priced to go!

The Pulse 2 Analog Synthesizer is available to purchase from Waldorf dealers worldwide with an SRP of €461.00 EUR/$610.00 USD (excluding tax)."

John Burtell's

via John Burtell:

"I have a recent experimental/noise project for which I have been developing a number of software-based "circuits". One of these in particular I find quite useful and would like to share how it works. I think it also falls in-line with the growing crop of boutique hardware noise synths. Attached is a diagram of circuit's operation.

Description:

A varying signal such as noise is fed into a sample-and-hold module. This module is essentially four separate sample-and-holds that are activated in succession whenever an impulse is received at the trigger input. The rate of succession is determined by a clock signal at the clock input. Each of the sample-and-holds controls the frequency of an oscillator; the frequency range is controlled by the blue knobs. The output of the oscillators are then sent to a comparator object which swithces between two states (+1, -1).

This circuit is quite useful for generating interesting drones and noises. It has served as the basis for the track domains 02 by imhul.

The circuit and corresponding diagram was mocked-up in a nifty modular synthesis program called Analog Box 2. http://code.google.com/p/analog-box/

I have shared it here because I believe it can be easily ported to other modular software programs as well as hardware. Please feel free to use and abuse as you will. Any questions can be sent to imhulsound (at) gmail (dot) com."

Audio demo below.

"True analogue oscillators, filter, sample and hold, noise generator and VCA for authentic analogue sound.

1 x Logarithmic Voltage-Controlled Oscillator, with square, ramp, triangle and sine outputs, and PWM control of square wave. Square wave shape can be manually set to give pulse waveforms. The comprehensive range of frequency modulation sources includes 2 x LFO, Sample & Hold, ADSR contour, and external input. Switchable keyboard pitch range (normal, +1 octave and -1 octave), plus tuning control.

1 x 24dB/octave, 4-pole Lowpass Filter, log response. Plenty of modulation inputs including ADSR sweep (for the typical filter automatic "wah" effect each time a note is played), LFO 2 (for repeat wah, bubbling effects, etc.), Sample & Hold, MIDI Velocity and external input. Re-create all those classic synth filter effects, or discover new ones of your own. Self-oscillation feature means that the filter can be used as an extra playable oscillator if required. Switchable keyboard tracking feature.

2 x Triangle and Square Wave Low Frequency Oscillators, with frequency and wave shape controls (much like those on the Korg MS-10 and MS-20), for vibrato and extreme modulation effects. Adjustable to give ramp, sawtooth, and pulse outputs in addition to the triangle and square waves.

1 x Built-in MIDI to CV Unit, with 5V gate and velocity output, 1V/octave CV response (can also drive external analogue gear). Fully variable glide (portamento) control, giving mild to extreme swoops of pitch when playing the keyboard, or when receiving external MIDI note information.

1 x Sample & Hold, giving crazy, random note effects and unpredictable filter modulation!

1 x White Noise Generator, can be used to add edge to imitative sound like flutes and whistles, or for rain, surf, thunder effects etc.

1 x ADSR Envelope Generator, drives VCA and VCF, with HIGH and LOW range switch. Bright yellow LED monitor and bypass switch for easy set-up. Useful ADSR repeat feature, driven by LFO 1.

1 x Linear Voltage-Controlled Amplifier with built-in overdrive stage, for massive distortion effects - perfect for filthy solos and grungy basslines!
