Roland MPU-101 Midi - CV Gate 4-channel Converter Interface

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The MPU-101 is unique in that it converts MIDI data into analog signals. When the MPU-101 is connected to a MIDI sending unit, a conventional 1 -volt/octave Cv/gate synthesizer such as the SH-101, SH-2, SH-5, SH-07, System-100M etc... can be controlled by MIDI data.
Other voltage-controlled devices can also be controlled. For example, you can automatically synchronize lighting equipment with your performance.
The gate signals can also be used as trigger signals to control a percussion sound source like the Boss PC-2 or HC-2, a sampling unit such as the Boss DSD-2, or a digital delay, for example the Boss DE-200.

The MPU-101 can expand your MIDI system's potential just as much as your imagination allows.
The MPU-101 has four output channels, each with pitch control voltage, gate signal, and dynamics control signal outputs. Up to four CV synthesizers can be controlled by MIDI data.
ln addition to the key information, other MIDI data including velocity. bender modulation, after touch, and volume information is converted into analog signals. Complicated MIDI data can completely be converted.
The MIDI channel can be assigned to one of 1 to 16.

Five operation modes are provided for a variety of applications.

1. Mono Mode: Four CV synthesizers can be controlled by MIDI data transmitted on four different MIDI channels.
The bass, melody, and other parts of a composition played by different CV synthesizers can be controlled by MIDI data transmitted on different MIDI channels.

2. 2-Voice Mode: MIDI data for up to two notes is converted into CV/gate signals and comes through outputs 1 and 2.

3. 3-Voice Mode: MIDI data for up to three notes is converted into CV/gate signals and comes through outputs 1, 2, and 3.

4. 4-Voice Mode: MIDI data for up to four notes is converted into CV/gate signals and comes through outputs 1, 2, 3, and 4.

5. Special Mode: MIDI data for the highest note, the lowest note. and the latest note is converted and comes through different outputs.

A MIDI Out jack is provided in addition to the MIDI In and Thru jacks. Up to 8 CV synthesizers can be controlled by combining two MPU-101's.
When the connected MIDI sending unit is in the poly mode, three different assign modes are accessible, then the MIDI key information can be
assigned to four outputs in three different ways. An Octave Transpose function simultaneously shifts the pitch control voltage of four CV outputs one octave up or down.

A Gate Indicator on each output channel confirms the flow of the gate signals."

Patch Morpher for iPad & Hardware Synths

iTunes: Patch Morpher - Richard Meyer

"Patch Morpher is an innovative sound generator, patch editor, librarian and interactive performance tool for synthesisers.

Just as an artist mixes paints to create new colours, Patch Morpher allows you to create new sounds from your favourite patches & presets.

Patches can be organised into scenes for live performance, and you can then morph or mutate between them to create totally original new sounds & patches, controlling hundreds of parameters with one finger, all in real-time. You can even keep playing your synth as the sound evolves.

A full editor is available to allow you to further tweak your sounds, taking advantage of the iPad's touch screen to give you full control whilst allowing you to view many parameters at a single glance with no hidden menus. Patches can be saved on your iPad so you won't run out of storage slots on your synthesiser.

The application also provides support for converting patches between the Prophet 08 and the Prophet 12. And you can also play the Moog Voyager "paraphonically": simulating up to 3-note polyphony!!

Patch Morpher uses Core MIDI, and the Apple camera connection kit and a USB cable, or a MIDI interface, are required to connect your iPad to your synthesiser.

Patch Morpher is currently only compatible with the following synthesisers:
- Moog Voyager
- Dave Smith Prophet 08
- Dave Smith Prophet 12
- Korg KingKorg
- Mutable Instruments Shruthi-1
(more coming soon!)

Please see our web-site for a video demo, user manual & free patch downloads.

Patch Morpher will totally change how you create sounds for your synthesiser: it's easy & fun to create inspiring sounds, plus you'll have more time to play & make music!"

MacroMachines - Karplus Web

MacroMachines - Karplus Web from Richard Devine on Vimeo.

"Late night patch experiment using the new MacroMachines Memory manager expander for the Mungo d0 module. Noise snare source made with the noise engineering ataraxic translatron module that was running into the top section of a Optomix. The setting was set to a closed decay time and I set the dampen control clockwise to cut out the low end frequencies. From there I set the memory manager in sequence to clock at half the time of the main sequence tempo. I purposely set nothing to control the delay modulation inputs on the d0 for inputs A and B, so that we only hear the delay line open and just changing the slew rate times and feedback intensity caused some interesting feedback swells. The output signal was then ran into another Optomix bottom row then set it to a medium decay time so could ring out in more of controlled manner.

Other modules used was the ALM Pamela's workout doing the tricky high hat pattern and kick drum via Tiptop BD 808. Scattered melodic notes dashed in reverb from the Mutable Instruments Braids running in WXT4 mode, and then being ran through an optomix for extra closed fast envelope control. The intellijel µScale was used for the subtly modulated plucks in conjunction with the Dixie and another Optomix. Trigger output from Pamela's workout to a 8th division sequence with 9% random value. This was sent into the Uscale A trigger input. Then I took the VCO output on the Wogglebug which caused this super fast zigzag effect on "shift" input B . I took the output to a intellijel Dixie which was set to the FM input, for a marble scrambling type of sound. All outputs ran into one Intelljel Mutagen mixer running in my new Enclave 12U case. Reverb from the Eventide Space pedal.

Modular synth jam with Schaltwerk, MAQ, i30

Published on Nov 12, 2013 Phil Tipping·57 videos

"Live noodling using chord sequence from D.C. in A Minor Excursion (35:57 in http://youtu.be/qXDtcDm7WS0), using Dotcom synth, Schaltwerk, MAQ & Korg i30 arranger keyboard. Patterns from earlier MAQ video (http://youtu.be/mV91BvJFsxw) tweaked & transferred to Schaltwerk to free up MAQ for VCF control.
The unexpected syncopation from earlier video traced to fractional length pattern being gated on its off beat, so on-beat notes become audible when EG decay/release increased.
Korg i30 used in Arranger mode so backing style follows chords played with left hand; right hand plays melody.

Midi sync & clocks distributed from Sequetron to Schaltwerk, MAQ & i30 via Philip Rees MIDI Merge 2M unit used as a 'thru' device; can just squeeze 3 outputs from 1 input. The MIDI Thru W5 unit would be more logical but it wouldn't transmit MIDI sync/clocks; may have been faulty but wasted lots of time doubting the deopfer gear (and sanity) so didn't investigate further!"

I've named it 'The Sushi Thief' as I was accosted by security at my local Tesco supermarket yesterday on suspicion of theft! Eventually, my items were verified as paid for and I left a free man.

Synthrotek EKO Demo

Published on Nov 11, 2013 PatchingMonk·1 video

"Demo of the Synthrotek EKO, a CVable echo effect. Please note that this is a prototype module, and the feedback and mix knobs are backwards. They are corrected on the final release.

The basics of the patch:

Audio source is from the Livewire Electronics Audio Frequency Generator's Animated Pulses and Pulse Out sections -into- 2 inputs on Intellijel's uVCA (cv modulated by 2 Circuit Abbey ADSRjrs) -into- 2 Synthrotek EKOs (rate cv modulated by Livewire Electronics Chaos Computer) -into- 2 inputs panned Left & Right on the Circuit Abbey Unify.

You're hearing 1 EKO module in each ear, played with one note only so that you can hear the intensity of the rate cv being modulated by the Chaos Computer. From spacey echos, bell tones, to rhythmic percussive pulses, this module makes some seriously intense sounds."

Beat Box : A Drum Machine Obsession - Coffee Table Book by Joe Mansfield

"Joe Mansfield's 200-page Beat Box: A Drum Machine Obsession coffee-table book features 75 drum machines from the author's personal collection, with more than 200 photos by Award Winning photographer Gary Land and Foreword by Dave Tompkins.

It all started with one machine. The location was Boston, Mass. The year was 1986. The 'beat box' in question was the TR-808. Almost three decades later, Mansfield's obsession with drum machines has finally spilled out of his home and climate-controlled storage space into the world at large. With Beat Box: A Drum Machine Obsession (Get On Down Publishing), the Boston-based hip-hop producer and music industry veteran - who helped bring the world Edo G's 'I Got To Have It' and 'Be A Father To Your Child' in the early '90s, and went on to found Traffic Entertainment Group and co-found Get On Down - shares his deep love and respect for "Beat Boxes" on every page."

Here's part 2 of Analogue Solutions Leipzig-s percussion and drums.

This video is created by request from several Leipzig owners who desire a visual starting point to begin creating percussion on the Leipzig-s synth. All pots can be seen clearly in the video (use 1080p for full screen) and many unused settings are set flush left.

In this video, the Leipzig-s is not connected to MIDI, but is stepping the sequencer from its own LFO. Everything is done in real time.

For more creative drum patterns, the Leipzig can be attached to MIDI and used alongside your DAW.

The Leipzig synth line has incredibly fast envelopes and percussion/drums are some of its strong suits.

"Trying to get a conceptual grasp of MakeNoise Maths.

The clock source is an SSL TTLFO to a Moon 554 divider then on to various trigger and voltage sequencers. The Maths CH4 input and CH4 trigger are from this setup. CH1 input is
from an Ardcore OX which is used for many more gates through out the patch.

I use the Maths as an EG as well as a way to gate the background sounds with the OR output. CH4 output is removed from the SUM and sent to CH1 Rise. The CH4 buffered multiple Out is sent to an LPG noise tic. and the SUM is sent to another LPG and Oakley VCADSR for the bass line.

Tweaking the CH1 Rise and CH4 Fall rates is the main thing but also the CH3 input is a tap off the WCRS quantized random voltage and adds some interest to the opening of the CH1 bass envelope. Further wiggling of the other slope knobs and occasionally engaging the loop functions is done for added experiments.

A variety of reverbs, delays and feedback loops are employed along with a slow modulating frequency shifter on the background tones. A pan module and stereo delay outputs from the modular make for some 3D imaging."
