JoMox goes modular ! Expect fat sounds

Published on Dec 3, 2013 modularsquare·55 videos

"\o/ WELCOME TO LOW END PARADISE \o/

JoMox was at Modularsquare november 30 to show his new eurorack modules dedicated to drums ! On the left side of this case you will find 2x ModBase 09 Bass Drum modules obviously dedicated to kick drum, and on the right side, 2x Mod.Brane 11 percussion module dedicated to all kind of sounds from classic snare to insane metallic pickaxe sound. We are totally in love.

Nothing fency in that video, just exploring presets to find good combinations. We will come back later with deeper videos.

(All these modules are controlled by a Doepfer A-155 sequencer, no FX nor compression added)

Soon at http://www.modularsquare.com !"

Turnado Lemur Template

Published on Dec 3, 2013 mCKENIC·15 videos

"Quick video of a Lemur template I did for Turnado desktop. It performs almost like the Turnado iPad app now! Nothing special I know but its a LOT of fun to use.

4 - X/Y pads (with reset to zero on finger lift), a Wet/Dry mix and a Randomizer button.
You have to push the button twice because of whatever way I have it mapped in Ableton Live!"

via Dave O Mahony on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

iTunes: Lemur - Liine

The reset to zero on finger lift is interesting. Lemur costs a bit more than other editors for the iPad, but it's generally more powerful. It also had a history as the proprietary Jazz Mutant Lemur hardware controller prior to the iPad launching. There's a huge user community and custom templates for all sorts of things available for download.

Update:

Turnado iPad - Desktop preset

"The same preset used on Turnado iPad and desktop with my Lemur template. Its not 100% as the scaling on the Lemur template is different but it is a joy to finally use my iPad templates on the desktop version!"

Korg Lambda ES50 Vintage Analogue Synthesiser

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a fantastic instrument. The Lambda is a fully-polyphonic (not paraphonic) synth with a rich analogue sound, made lusher still by a bucket-brigade-type chorus. The sounds are preset, but there's a much greater degree of tweakability than you usually find on typical string synths and preset machines: particularly useful is the Attack / Decay envelope control, which makes getting everything from thick stabs to slow atmospheric washes of sound an absolute breeze. The sounds are divided into two blocks – the Percussive sounds are Electric Piano, Piano, Clavichord, and a Harmonic tab for overtones; these can be effected by a very neat, rate-controllable Tremolo. Then there's the Ensemble block, where the real treats lie (or I reckon so, at least!) – Brass (fantastic), Organ (a surprisingly good tranny organ sound – put it through some overdrive for a Vox-y screamer), Chorus (beautiful rich, mellow, ethereal pad sound), and Strings 1 and 2 (same sound, an octave apart – very rich and organic, with a lot of motion when you switch the Vibrato into play).

The two banks can individually be set to run through the Chorus effect, which is a lovely old analogue sound – think lush, warm, full of movement. There's a joystick controller to vary the speed of the Chorus (this also acts as a pitch-bend lever), plus a whole load of little details that make this a real pleasure to use and play: the Electric Piano key-click sound can be trimmed individually; there's individual control over the filter sweep that creates the Brass voice (you can get quite a nice little "wow" going at the front of the sound with this); and there's a basic low-pass filter across each of the groups, so you can adjust the Tone of each. You can adjust levels, too, for each group; and, of course, switch the individual voices in or out. Looking at the pic of the front panel will tell you pretty much everything this machine can do, and it's a nice set of features compared to most late-70s preset machines.

Also... IT'S STEREO! Yes, the Chorus effect outputs on two quarter-inch jacks, and it sounds magical. The Logan, the Godwin... all mono. Not the Lambda :-)

The Lambda is kind of halfway between a preset machine and a more fully-formed synth: the envelope controls alone make it really versatile, and layering say Chorus with Strings gives you an instant vintage pad sound that's pretty much impossible to beat. The machine excels at pads, strings and tonal textures; the Brass is sublime; the Organ is nothing like as cheesy as you'd expect – turn up the Tone to max and it's harsh, aggressive, biting. It needs some effects to really get it going, though, whereas the Strings and Chorus are just perfect on their own..."

EKO Ekosynth P15 Italian Analogue Synthesizer

via this auction - video at the auction and previously posted here.

"This is a great synth and has been used by many respectable electronic musicians. It can recreate Moog and 'Look Around You' tunes very nicely. It has adjustable 24dB resonant filter, VCA and LFO sections. You can use them to achieve a very interesting and unique sonic pallete. Another great thing about this synth is it is built into it's own carry case (lid included) So it is portable and not (too) heavy should you wish to gig with it."

Gotharman PitchShaper

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The PitchShaper is a pitch matching/shaping/warping 14 hp module using granular technology.

The PitchShaper is a new Gotharman invention, made because of a wish of being able to pitch-match any sound to a voice, before it was going into a vocoder, for making a more realistically pitched vocoder voice.

When working on the design it was found that there could be many more uses for such a module. By adding just a few controls, it really became possible to shape the sound output from this module, into something completely different than just a pitch-matched signal. And by switching the 2 inputs around, it became possible to re-pitch the voice itself, without changing the speed of the voice, and by turning the controls, creating strange granular effects. By adding beats and other sound sources to it, the fun really began….

The audio signal applied to input 2 will be re-pitched to match the pitch of the audio signal applied to input 1. The re-pitched input 2 signal will be the output. Will only pitch-match correctly on monophonic signals.

Since this module works directly on audio, instead of pitch to CV or pitch to MIDI, anything can be pitch-matched to anything.

By adjusting or modulating the controls, it is possible to obtain granular effects far away from pitch-matching.

Vermona Bent Sine Wave Free Sample Library

via Shawn Shirey on The MATRIXSYNTH Lounge

"Bent Sine Wave is a new free sample library from Dark Side of the Tune.

This set takes the Vermona Filter Lancet and turns it into a synthesizer.

Using Doepfers snappy envelopes into the CV input of the self oscillating filter creates excellent analog drums and FM sound effects.

External noise was taken from Arturias Minibrute for a more life-like snare drum sound.

All sounds were recorded into the Universal Audio Apollo for rock-solid digital stability. These sounds are brought up to about -6 so no digital distortion occurs.

All sounds are offered in 44.1kHz, 24 and 16 bit resolution wave files.

If you would like to contribute to the hard work it took to make these samples, please visit our store at www.darksideofthetune.com and purchase one of the many sample libraries available.

"this child organ does not sound like a typical church organ and not as bad as a simple fan organ. it has more of a kind of synthesizer-sounding one can best be compared with the Stylophone.

the higher the sound the louder the organ. that is not defective, but even then it was at purchase so and has never bothered me.

the little thing is very loud when it turned up on full. it was used as a great gimmick for a few live concerts."

The "music" is just an improvisation that came out right after sometime playing with the P08.

Site Menu Updates

This is just a heads up. I added the Updates and Comments links to the site menu directly above the posts section (directly below Featured Listings). Be sure to check the Updates at least once a day. Often I'll post a video only to have a follow-up video show up a few minutes later. Rather than put up a new post, I'll update the original and add the Update label. All updates go out on MATRIXSYNTH Twitter and Facebook, so you can follow them there if you prefer. All updates are preceded with a red Update: in the post so you can find them easily.  On Twitter and Facebook the update is preceded with Update: as well.

As for the Comments link, it currently only shows comments from the Blogger system. Facebook unfortunately does not offer a comment aggregation page for all comments on the site. If this has changed and anyone knows how to make it happen, let me know.  Note that if a comment comes in that warrants an update to a post I will update the post and an update will go out per above.

Finally, to keep the menu items from wrapping on mobile devices, I removed the Auctions link and changed Post Guidelines to just Guidelines, which actually makes more sense as they apply not only to all MATRIXSYNTH sites, but the MATRIXSYNTH Lounge on Facebook as well. You can find the Auctions link at the bottom of any auction post so it shouldn't be hard to find.   You can also just search for "auction" or any other term for that matter in the top left Blogger search box, followed by either sorting by date, or clicking the channel label at the bottom of the first post.  Channel labels always sort by latest post on top.
