Roland SVC 350 vocoder demo Published on Dec 19, 2013 sequentialx·9 videos

Complete run-through for an eBay sale. Via this auction.

"It was recently given a clean bill of health by synth tech Ramcur.

It's in overall great condition with very little wear, please see pictures for more details and video below for a complete test.

The SVC-350 is an 80s classic! It contains similar circuitry as the equally famous VP-330. It was released as part of Roland's Rack Series which contains other processing gems like the Dimension D or Sre-555 tape echo.

11 filter bands make the SVC a clear sounding vocoder that rivals much more expensive units. Part of its magic sound is the nice ensemble sound that helps create the choir-like vocoder effect, it's especially nice in stereo.

The adjustable bands make it quite versatile and it makes a beautiful fixed filter bank when properly patched...

The unit is a 120v model made for North America. A reproduction of the manual is included."

Syncing Korg ER-1 and Kilpatrick and Serge Modular Synths

Published on Dec 19, 2013 pjoris2·122 videos

"First test of syncing the Serge and Kilpatrick synth to the Korg ER-1. Different from just taking sync or clock out but works OK. Video is just some messing around.

How does it work ? Midi out to Kilpatrick midi in. Specify note values out of the Kilpatricks midi range (below C0 or above G8 or) for internal Korg sounds and note values within that range for external audio in sounds on the ER-1. Now you can use the Audio In tracks on the ER1 sequencer to trigger the Kilpatrick and Serge."

Tim of discchord sent this one my way.  Drum parts are the KORG Kaossilator Pro and synth parts are the KORG MicroKORG & K Pro, further mangled by the K Pro.  All of it looped on the RC-505.

Video description: "A live recording From the Future. I'm getting to know my new gear and positioning and I certainly have some work to do on making all these sounds fit in the mix but I think this is a pretty good start.

Other than hours of doing this sort of thing the only preparation for the improvisation were decisions of key, speed and instrumentation.

Made using a Korg Kaossilator Pro, a Microkorg and a Roland RC-505 loop station.

Rhodes CHROMA ARP Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

This is the second one listed today. These are beautiful instruments and thanks to the iPad, Chromas with the CC+ upgrade can now be edited in real time with a dedicated iPad editor.

Notes on this one via the listing: "Here is a Rhodes Chroma that has recently been restored to full operation by William Santana at Santana Musical Electronics of Portland, OR. The unit was purchased from the original owner and has already been upgraded with the SPSU that is currently available for the Chroma.

))))))))PLEASE READ(((((((((
The CPU in the unit is the original design but the CC+ CPU upgrade is on order now and will be available some time in March. Once the kit is available I would be willing to ship it to the seller as it's value is included with the sale price in this auction. No further costs will be incurred by the buyer of this unit for the value of the CC+. The CC+ will be shipped as soon as is received from the manufacturer. The only thing the buyer will have to make arrangements for is for the installation of the upgrade. The CC+ along with the SPSU brings the Chroma truly into the 21st century providing an enduring stable service life for many more years to come as well as many new and valuable features provided by the CC+. Read more info about it at: rhodeschroma.com

The CC+ is essential for full CC control of all parameters and has already been used to great benefit by the designer of the
Enabler Chroma interface, and the iPad Touch OSC interface:

The woodwork is all original. Due to the typical nature of the aging Rhodes Chroma, often the end caps are found to be stained from the degraded foam that lines the flight case for the Chroma. This unit came to me with foam stains but has since been refinished and the case has been refoamed as well.

As you can see in the pics, the cosmetic condition is very clean. I have since provided bushings under the front panel screws to give it a cleaner look. The tolex is very clean as well. Overall, this unit is an excellent example of the Rhodes Chroma model.

Also included is 2 extra channel boards. Parts have been removed from both of these boards to facilitate the restoration of this Chroma. Currently, NONE of the CEM ICs are present on these boards. However, there are other parts that are specific to the Chroma including the cards themselves. Both of the extra cards are the 2nd or 3 revisions that still had to have a jumper installed at the factory. The need for this jumper was corrected by the later revisions of the channel board which are what all 8 channel boards are currently loaded in the Chroma you see here.

The sound of the unit is big, organic and very deep. The keyboard is a real, wooden 64-note velocity-sensitive dream come true. The programming features are truly unlike any other synth. The "patch" parameter gives you several different routing options between the 2 voices on each card. Some have compared this to the "Algorithm" concept found in the Yamaha DX7.

This unit comes with all of the original accessories including:
Dual sustain/sostenuto pedal (Rhodes)
Single patch advance pedal (Rhodes)
Variable voltage control pedal (Rhodes)
3 x cassette interface cables (original) 2 x 5-pin 1 x 8 pin
Programming manual
Performance Manual
Syntech MIDI interface with all documentation
Front panel interface feature chart
2 x original factory patch cassettes

The Rhodes Chroma was the last product to come from ARP. This unit was to be ARPs big push back into the very competitive synthesizer market. They were definitely onto something. There were many innovation that were developed for this machine that were way ahead of its time. Unfortunately, ARP could not hold things together to release the product to market. Phillip Dodds, who was responsible for the Chromas development and the shutting down of ARP, managed to convince CBS to take up the design along with the R&D team to release it to market under the Rhodes badge. The Rhodes Chroma saw some hi-profile use and was definitely the "players" synthesizer in its day."

Yamaha Mobile Music Sequencer - US Major Update & Sale

iTunes: Mobile Music Sequencer - US - Yamaha Corporation of America

"What's New in Version 3.0.0
Yamaha's Mobile Music Sequencer enables composers to combine a range of phrase patterns and create musical compositions intuitively, following the flow of composition, from phrases to sections and from sections to songs.

Wherever you are, you can now sketch the outline of a composition. In addition, you can use the ingredients to delicately craft songs on a Yamaha synthesizer, or in Steinberg Cubase.

First, try loading the demo song (a number of demo songs are provided). Tap on the settings icon in the top right of the screen, select [Digital Sympathy] from the Presets under the File tab, and press the Load button to read in the song.

Create a song right away as follows:

Step 1-Create phrases
You can choose from a rich selection of 382 preset phrases (the phrase is the smallest unit in the structure of a composition). Under Phrase in the View screen, tap on a cell in which no setting has been made, then tap on the Select button on the left. To listen to a preset phrase, tap on its name. It is also possible to use real-time recordings made using the keyboard within an application, or user phrases which have been created using piano roll input. Using the powerful Loop Remix function, it is possible to divide selected phrases at specified intervals and then order them randomly, automatically insert rolls or breaks, and thus rework them into new phrases.

Step 2-Create sections
Combine multiple phrases together to create a section. Phrases are arranged in a vertical block and playback is turned on and off using the Section button at the bottom of the screen. The phrases can be managed as a single unit.
By specifying codes for individual sections, you can easily create variations. Using the Create command you can also create a succession of new sections based on the phrase that is currently being played back, which allows production to proceed smoothly.

Step 3-Create Songs
Put together complete songs by pasting together sections. This is easily accomplished by touching the Section area and then just dragging and dropping sections into the data area. Naturally, you can also input sections by recording in real time or by using the piano roll screen.

Advantages
• Built-in software synth with 92 high-quality sounds (including 9 types of drumkit) enables faithful rendering of sequence patterns.
• Sound editing using filters, EG, and other effects
• Mixer function for each part
• Effects including reverb, chorus, and variations
• Additional phrases and sounds
Four additional voice and phrase datapacks can be purchased directly using the application. (Dance Pop, Electronic, Hip Hop, R&B). Moreover, two additional song and phrase datapacks and one phrase datapack can be also purchased directly using the application.(Song and Phrase datapack: TeddyLoid/Mobile Conductor, access/Eien Dive, Phrase databack: QY Pack)
*In case your purchased pack can't be transferred to the app, please tap the ""Restore Purchases"" button at the bottom of the purchase screen.
• File export
As well as a function for outputting standard general-purpose MIDI files, the application also includes a function for exporting files in an even easier-to-use format designed for Yamaha synths, in which characteristic sounds are specified in advance. (MOTIF XF, S90XS/S70XS, MOXF6/MOXF8, MOX6/MOX8, MX49/61, Tyros5 and MOTIF XS)
• Mix-down
Audio mix-down of a song or a phrase and conversion of the song or the phrase to an audio file can be performed in real time.
• Compatibility with SoundCloud
Audio files can be made compatible with SoundCloud and uploaded.

* To ensure the smooth operation, iPhone 4S or higher or iPod Touch 5th Generation or higher is recommended."

IK Multimedia Releases GrooveMaker 2 for iPhone & iPod Touch

GrooveMaker 2 - Remixing Reinvented - Overview

Published on Dec 18, 2013 ikmultimedia·407 videos

iTunes: GrooveMaker 2 - IK Multimedia | GrooveMaker 2 FREE - IK Multimedia

"December 19, 2013 - IK Multimedia, the leader in mobile music-creation apps and accessories for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, is pleased to announce GrooveMaker 2 for iPhone and iPod touch, the most powerful mobile loop based music making app with a patented "groove generator" engine that lets anyone create professional quality non-stop grooves, beats and songs in real time with no previous music-making experience required. GrooveMaker 2 provides a completely new and intuitive way of making music by using groups of loops called songs (60 loops per song) that always sound good together, and users use these to build grooves and complete songs. GrooveMaker 2 gives users total control over the creation, mixing and remixing process from a newly designed iOS 7 style interface and intuitive controls, loop import, automatic mixing controls, loop effects, mastering effects, groove sequencing and export controls. With GrooveMaker 2, anyone can make music and be a DJ, anywhere, any time.

Millions of Groove Possibilities
GrooveMaker 2 ushers in over 3,600 available loops from a continually expanding library of over 60 collections for virtually every style of groove music including House, DubStep, Hip Hop, Techno, Electro, D'n'B, Trance, Reggae, Reggaeton, Rock, and artist's packs from Ace of Skunk Anansie, Chris Domingo and Cool & Dre and more. For previous users, GrooveMaker now features just one app that houses all of the loop collections, and all previous purchases of GrooveMaker styles are unlocked when the app is registered and available from within one convenient app.

Tons of New Power-User Features
GrooveMaker 2 excels as a live DJ performance tool and mobile composition app. For re-mixing on the fly, the new Grid Interface allows users to switch individual loops with a quick touch in the track, or "draw" a completely new groove simply by dragging a finger across the screen. "Drawing" on the grid selects the loop associated with the available slot under the user's touch and does it in real time so GrooveMaker is always in time and on the beat. GrooveMaker now lets users set the length of the individual loops and entire grooves down to 1/4 of a bar, providing more creative flexibility when composing, building and layering grooves and creating songs. GrooveMaker 2 features a pro-quality proprietary time-stretch engine that allows complete control over tempo without affecting pitch. Tempos can be modified up to 200% and down to 50% without change to the original tones and pitch of the loops.

Effectual Healing
GrooveMaker 2 also features a suite of up to 16 effects users can apply "on the fly" to mixes and grooves. Plus, GrooveMaker 2 now gives users the creative flexibility of being able to record the automation of the application and parameters of the effects during playback for an added level of freedom. Effect parameters are touch-controlled on an XY field and each effect has additional parameters and features from which to choose. The groove effects include the staple effects like delay, reverb, filter, flange and wah, but also specialized effects designed for live DJ performance like stutter, noise, twist, tail, brake and spin. GrooveMaker 2 also features a master effects section for tightening up and polishing your final sequences.

Import Export
One of the most requested features is now fully implemented in GrooveMaker 2: audio recording and audio import. Users can now add their own sounds and loops to the currently selected song using the record feature, or import audio loops via file share, the device music library, audio paste or from a computer using wifi. This further expands the creative possibilities within GrooveMaker and gives artists total flexibility when composing grooves. Users can also use the Record feature to record an entire GrooveMaker performance for sharing and further sequencing. GrooveMaker 2 is also fully AudioBus, Inter-App Audio and X-Sync compatible for use with other audio apps.

GrooveMaker provides a complete loop-based music production environment from creation to final delivery. Users can use GrooveMaker in a live setting for real-time creation of grooves and non-stop dance music and record that performance for later reproduction. GrooveMaker is also an indispensable tool for scoring mobile and home movies on the go, or creating non-stop groove and dance beat tracks for any activity, or DJ'ing the party… all on one mobile device in one convenient pro quality app.

New Key Features
Completely redesigned iOS7 style interface
New single application allows you to have all your loop collections in one place via in-app purchase (any GrooveMaker 1 loop packs bought previously are unlocked and usable in GrooveMaker 2 upon registration)
16 Packs available in 60 song collections (1 song included in the free version, 4 songs included in the full version and more available via in-app purchase)
New Grid interface allows for simplified loop remixing – even by "drawing"
Single loop duration and groove duration can be freely selected down to ¼ bar, with new 1/8 to 1/32 live-repeat function on full grooves for dramatic effects
16 available FX with automation and touch-pad like interface
IMPORT functions allows to import audio files or record your own grooves within the existing collection (available for in-app purchase in the Free version)
New high-quality time-stretch for seamless groove tempo variation from 50% to 200% of original BPM without changing the pitch
New real-time recorder of your remixing performance
New master control with Compressor, EQ and Filter
New sharing features include Audio Copy, E-mail, Wi-Fi, FTP and SoundCloud
Compatible with Audiobus, Inter-App Audio and X-Sync

Pricing & Availability
GrooveMaker is available now on the App Store for iPhone and iPod touch as a free version or a full version for $9.99/€8.99. Additional GrooveMaker packs are available as in-app purchases from $5.99 to $3.99 each. GrooveMaker songs can also be purchased individually.
Download on the App Store

There will soon be a free update of GrooveMaker 2 to offer full universal compatibility, taking advantage of the extra screen size of the iPad.

Brute LFO is an iOS App for iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch, which outputs control voltages (CV) from the device's headphone output. Connect it to your Arturia Microbrute or other analog gear, like a Modular Synthesizer, to modulate your sounds. The headphone output voltages aren't very high on iOS devices, so it's more of a subtle modulation, but Brute LFO also sounds awesome when pushed into audio range. There are two simultaneous oscillators and a third one to modulate the other two's frequency. Switch on "Brute" mode to dirty the waveforms up some more. Not shown in the video: The performance pad mode, in which you can use two touch pads to adjust four parameters simply by swiping your fingers on the screen.

"I had this serviced last year but it still presents with a couple of issues. One is some scratchiness on the filter cutoff pot at around 9 o clock. The other is the LFO speed pot is temperamental. Swapping these pots for new ones ought to solve both problems. As with all Transcendents, the key mechanism necessitates that the keys are used frequently to keep them reliable. As it is, it hasn't been used for a while and some keys need to be struck harder than others to sound. This improves with use.

The Transcendent was originally sold as a kit and although they tend to have some issues, they are worth it as they have a rich and beautiful sound and the inherent quirks make it a very rewarding synth to experiment with that very much has its own distinct character.

It was famously used by Joy DIvision."

Ipad MINI Minimoog Style Keyboard Controller

via Inevitable Crafts

"after last weeks weekend project which was building tabletop racks for all my 19″ stuff plus wooden cheeks for my elektron gear, this weekends project is to built a midi controller.

even with an usb hub and a soundcard and a midimate, my ipad mini fits perfectly in my midi enviroment, i was lacking a dedicated dock that has all the connections, symmetric outs midi IO etc

so the plan is to hack a midi controller, a USB soundcard and a monotron to build a controller that can do the following:

complete IO for the ipad

__symmetric audio IN/OUT
__midi IN/OUT
__MS20 filter, patchable IN or OUT

as this is a proof of concept, i will take the cheapest parts available

__birch instead of mahagoni at homedepot for around
__akai lpk8 instead of anything decent, so no wheels, but the only alternative would be the line6 and thats too big
__behringer 202 soundcard, unsymmetric and generally crappy and RCA …. but small and cheap
__cheap usb hub
__midimate
__female MIDI plugs and around 12 mono plugs (thats expensive ^^)
__some cables
__korg monotron for the filter

the controls left and right the ipad are mounted on dedicated panels to make it easier to expand and change layout.

i will use the CCK and plug the cable everytime instead of a dock-style connection."

In the comments he mentions "if you got an ipad mini by yourself i can put a blueprint online" Not sure where though.

Bass Station II overview: http://bit.ly/BS-II

Bass Station II is an analogue mono-synth based on the classic original Bass Station but re-worked for the 21st century. It has two filters, two oscillators plus a third sub-oscillator, patch save and a fully analogue effects section. Add a step sequencer, arpeggiator, full sized keys and a powerful modulation section and you have the makings of a synth that is built for bass, but capable of so much more.

Bass Station II key features:
• Analogue synth: brand new version of the classic Bass Station
• Two distinct analogue filters
• Load and save patches
• Pattern-based Step Sequencer and Arpeggiator
• Dedicated Tweakable Controls
• Two Oscillators plus an additional Sub Oscillator
• Analogue effects section
• Flexible modulation featuring 2 Envelopes and 2 LFOs
• MIDI I/O and USB connectivity
• Players 'synth-action' keyboard with aftertouch

STM32F4 DIY synth : Brisophone demo + Korg Monotron delay effect

"Published on May 1, 2013
Automatic semi-random digital sound synthesizer based on STM32F4 Discovery board (STmicroelectronics).
Control through 4 push buttons and 1 bargraph LED display.
Access to 13 parameters...
This is a work in progress.

Open source code ! : https://github.com/MrBlueXav/Brisophone

The latest sound demos are here : https://soundcloud.com/bluexav"

"This is a semi-random music generator based on a STM32F4 Discovery board and a simple expansion board providing four push buttons and a 10 LED bargraph.

It's a cousin of my previous "Ambiantiseur" project.

Now we have 4 effects : LP filter, chorus/flanger, delay, distortion.

The latest sound demos are here : https://soundcloud.com/bluexav

Early videos :

http://youtu.be/H8p6o9Nr7k8

http://youtu.be/NJDcqiR5RQg

Through the 4 buttons you can edit about 20 parameters.

All push buttons are active low. They are connected to PD8, PD9, PD10, PD11.

The first two are used to choose the parameter you'd like to modify : you scroll the list forward or backward. The bargraph displays a configuration of LEDs for each parameter.

The two second buttons are generally used for increasing or decreasing the parameter value or sometimes toggle a value.

The bargraph (common cathods) is connected to pins PE6, PE7, .... PE14, PE15. Each output is active at high level (3V). I've used 120 ohms resistors. The display is multiplexed (one Led is on at a time) and not bright...This system doesn't work very well in fact....

This project was built with Coocox.org's free IDE : CoIDE 1.7 and the GNU Tools for ARM Embedded Processors (https://launchpad.net/gcc-arm-embedded).

The main project file to open with CoIDE is "Brisophone.coproj".

Be sure to adapt your settings :

Toolchain location : Project > Select your Toolchain Path ...

libm location : Configuration window > link > linked libraries > add ...

( example : C:\program files\gnu tools arm embedded\4.7 2013q2\arm-none-eabi\lib\armv7e-m\fpu\ )"

"Dekrispator'sTest Sound!!

This software is a synthesizer which has flexibility very much!!"

via https://github.com/MrBlueXav/Dekrispator

"Experimental synthesizer based on an STM32F4 Discovery board with USB Host function for interaction and automatic mode. Flash your board with "dekrispator.hex" and enjoy hours and hours of sweet music coming of it ! Sounds can be loud so beware !

When powering up the board, the synth starts in "demo mode" unless you press and maintain a little the user button before power. In that case the synth is in "user mode".

Demo mode : The synth works on its own, sounds are perpetually changing. If you press the user button, sounds and effects stop always changing and the red LED lights on : the synth parameters are frozen. Press once again the user button and the red LED lights off : unfreeze.

User mode : Connect an USB MIDI controller (like Korg NanoKontrol...) to the board's micro USB connector and control the synth.

More to come..."
