EMU Emulator E III SN 0790256

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Included in this auction is:

1) The EMU Emulator E III Professional keyboard. It has many memory cards installed

2) Lacey HD

3) Apple 266mhz G3 Power PC with 6gb HD, 24x cd, zip drive, AV. 32mb, 512 cache. Inside the computer is a SCSI Rev A control card for the EMU Emulator E III. This thing is huge 12" long and has 12gb memory installed (three 4gb cards).

Think of this... The very popular Arp and Moog analog boards from this same time frame (in the 1990's) were selling for about $1,500 to $2,000 new... While this keyboard was selling for $12,500 to $15,000 So those other keyboards aren't even close to the same quality as this keyboard. This is the Rolls Royce of analog boards.

The Emulator III was E-mu's biggest classic "Digital Sound Production System". Also called the "EIII", it was E-mu's biggest and most professional sampler-synthesizer prior to the 1990's. It was the first sampler to offer 16-bit CD-quality specs with stereo or mono sampling at 44.1kHz or 33kHz. RAM memory is 4 MB expandable to 8 MB. There are extensive and modern sample editing features (from looping to rate conversions). The on-board 16-track sequencer and arpeggiator are also superb. Equipped with MIDI, SMPTE, SCSI, built-in disk-drive and multiple outputs, the EIII is comfortable in any studio. A Macintosh can also be hooked up to the EIII for easier graphical editing which was very useful since the LED screen on the synth is so tiny. In the 1990's this Synthesizer cost an astonishing $12,550 to $15,000, making it one of the most expensive synthesizers ever sold. The cost made this a rare sale so very few of these were actually sold. This synthesizer is extremely rare and an extremely powerful analog synth.

As a sampler workstation the EIII was at one time the dominating force. Although some modern machines exceed it today, the EIII is still a very high quality instrument with controls and functions that would be familiar to anyone who uses high end samplers. A very classic machine that can still stand strong among a generation of sampler workstations 10 years later, the EIII is still in use and will continue to be used for many more years. It has been used by Depeche Mode, Genesis, and JellyFish. If you can find one of these synthesizers you would be very fortunate because they are rarely found today (truly a prized museum piece to be put on display)."

Sequential Circuits PRO-8 Vintage Analog Synthesizer SN 02443

via this auction

"Up for sale is SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS PRO-8 vintage analog synthesizer. This is the rare Japanese version of the SCI SPLIT-8 synthesizer.

According to the web -
Around 1983-84 Sequential Circuits, in order to break into the Japanese market, shipped the Curtis SENTE (CEM 3394) chip and the firmware for the Sequential Six-Trak to an other Japanese manufacturer. It was their plan to have that that manufactuer design a synthesizer more targeted at the Japanese buyer. This Japanese company created an 8-voice bi-timbral version of the Six-Trak. They added a 5-octave, 61-note (C-C) keyboard to it and sold it in Japan, calling it the Pro-8. Sequential, liking what the Japanese manufacturer had done with their design and worrying that they might market their synth with one of their competitors (ie. Korg), asked for some design changes and a name change, and sold the Japanese-made synth as the Split-8."

Modular Synth - Fun With Quantisers - Quantimator / Doepfer

Published on Oct 31, 2014

"Here's a patch that's heavily quantised using a Toppobrillo Quantimator and a Doepfer A-156 Dual Quantizer.

Some patch notes:

The Klee is running in 2x8 mode with output A having a re-settable random voltage applied to it via the Turing Machine.
CV outputs from A and B are going to the Doepfer A-156.

A CV output from the Turing Machine is going into the Quantimator, which is being clocked at x3 of the root tempo.

The Turing Machine is being clocked first at x1 then changing back and forth between x1 and x2.

CV outs from the Quantimator are feeding 2 x Doepfer A-110's and a Verbos Harmonic Oscillator, the CV outs from the Doepfer A-156 Dual Quantizer are feeding 2 x Doepfer A-110 oscillators, and one of them is multed to a Livewire AFG.

The only filtering is on one (AFG) part which is the slightly squelchy bass bit. The rest are just raw from the oscillators, apart from the one from the Verbos which is going through a Cyndustries Saw Animator to create a thick bassline type thing.

Here's the finished track which will be released on my next album....

Modular Synth - An All Doepfer Orchestral (ish) Patch

Published on Oct 31, 2014 isvisible

"Here's a patch I filmed about two years ago. Made with all Doepfer modules.

Some patch notes:
The A-143-4 Quad VCLFO/VCO is triggering the gate/envelopes of the A-143-2 Quad ADSR, clocking the random voltages from the A-149-1, providing cv for the two filters (A-106-1 Xtreme and A124 Wasp)
The A-143-4 is in turn being modulated by two LFO's, A-143-9 and A-146.

The two voices are then passed through a channel each of a Tapco 4400 Dual Spring Reverb.

Classic ARP 2600: 2600P and 3604P Keyboard

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this VEMIA auction

SN 26757 & 36757

"This is a weird one. It may be a classic synth but when it arrived here it just looked and felt a bit tired and old. The cases look their age (with a couple of replacement catches and the tolex far from immaculate). Inside, the main panel is actually lovely, and in excellent condition, and the keyboard too is very nice. But a few of the sliders were a bit slow to become un-noisy (eg left speaker fader and VCF to VCA slider) and the keyboard is a little clacky. Some sliders, too, are more resistant to movement than others (eg the fune tune sliders.) Plus it had a collection of a few patchleads which honestly look like they are older than the machine itself. But then ..... as I started playing it, it became more and more desirable. You buy an old machine like this (40 years!!) for its character not its modern attributes ... and suddenly the sounds that started coming out of it hooked me. Through the internal speakers, and through external amplification, it sounds wonderful. Everything works properly (given some time for the oscillators to stabilise and a bit of wiggling of any noisy slider) and honestly it sounds so much better than any modern thing. Give it a collection of decent patch leads and it will give you a lot of pleasure back for years to come. Packing 20GBP."

via this VEMIA auction

"Small modulars don't get much more beautifully made and high quality than the System 100M, and this is a great example, with two 191J cabinets, a 181 keyboard, and ten good modules. Cabinet 1: 182 Sequencer s/n 870249, 112 Dual VCO s/n 213018, 150 Ring Mod / Noise / S&H / LFO s/n 770552, 165 rare double portamento controller s/n 270173, 140 Dual Envelope s/n 911109. Cabinet 2: 112 Dual VCO s/n 800443, 150 Ring Mod / Noise / S&H / LFO s/n 800844, 121 Dual VCF s/n 780329, 130 Dual VCA s/n 780305, 140 Dual Envelope s/n 780621. We played this for a couple of hours and didn't find anything less than 100% working, so although of course there are more possibilities than one can check in two hours we are confident you will find it totally satisfying. Cosmetically it has some oxidation showing through the paint on the bottom panel of one of the 191-Js, and the bender lever has been broken and re-fixed on the keyboard. Apart from those faults, this would be near-mint. It comes with the keyboard and module multi-pin leads, and 31 patch leads of varying lengths including 7 top-quality Phonoflex cables which could be reserved for crucial audio patches. UK voltage. Packing 14GBP."

SN 861

"A beautiful example of one of the great analogue polysynths, the finest work by the genius of Italian synth technology, Sr Mario Maggi. It plays superbly, full of rich smooth room-filling textures, with or without the three-position chorus. All knobs are smooth and silent, the keyboard is a delight, and everything about it we tried is perfect. Cosmetically, it has a few tiny dings on the wooden endcheeks, a crack on the front of the left endcheek, and two superficial marks to the left of the control panel at the bottom of the LFO controls. Apart from these minor things it is undoubtedly near mint. It comes with MIDI via the standard umbilical cord to the 15-pin socket, very professionally done. It has clearly been serviced recently to the highest standards. Packing 20GBP. We will include a UK or standard European mains lead."

Aelita "Soviet Minimoog"

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this VEMIA auction

"This is really the Soviet Minimoog - with some minusses, of course, but also some plusses. The filter emphasis is much harsher, and the envelopes aren't as well designed, we reckon - but the basic three-oscillator sound and filter in non-resonant mode is a Minimoog rival in every way. The overall cosmetic design is tacky compared with a Mini, but is still solid, and, on this machine, looks all-original. Where it honestly outscores the Mini is in its extras - 'strings' mode, which seems to put a different chorus on each of the footages, unison, and the way you can switch easily between two or three very different sound textures. High-note keyboard priority, great for holding down a bass note and doing stuff over the top - the dedicated LFO comes in useful here too for sequencer-like riffing. Checked by nLi April 14 and still in good working order today. More info at oocities.org/...aelita.htm ruskeys.net/...aelita Packing: 10GBP."

Korg Sigma

via this VEMIA auction

SN 240234

"Truly a great synth - and when you discover how many Korg 35 modules are lurking inside, you begin to understand one of the reasons why it sounds so good. It is seriously useable too. Although it is basically a preset synth, each of the presets has a knob dedicated to the most important function, plus you can have as many presets at once as you want, simultaneously - hence the need for so many filters. All the modulation rockers also have a dedicated knob to control their effect. Add in two joysticks, aftertouch, and good interfacing via Hz/V sockets in and out, and CV inputs for VCO FM and VCF cutoff point, ...and an excellent basic sound.... this is almost unbeatable in its class. This example is in very nice cosmetic condition not perfect, but check the photos to see how nice - and perfect working order - Lucid serviced it in early April ready for the auction, when it amazingly didn't sell. So here it is, at a further reduced price. Packing 8GBP."

Oxford Synthesizer Company OSCar with MIDI

"For sale here is a MINTY OSCar Oxford Synthesiser Company. This is the nicest Oxford I have ever seen, it is latest version with midi, fully functional & in near perfect minty shape. It sounds AMAZING, with a huge set of features for the time, including programmable harmonic waveforms, patch memory, sequencer, an awesome arpeggiator, duophonic capabilities (yes you can play two notes at once) along with the best filter I have ever played, allowing for LP, BP, HP, overdrive capabilities. Huge bass, leads, effects unlike anything else. Easily my favorite monophonic synthesizer of all time, & I've played them all, from Minimoogs to Arp Odysseys to Synton Syrinx. If I had to describe the sound I would say it's instant Boards of Canada, smooth, bubbly, analog with an aggressive Aphex Twin side that can get gritty & rough..."

Lo-Fi SES: Hackable 8-bit Chiptune Instrument with Open Source Carts

Some details via Kickstarter:

"A lo-fi 8-bit instrument that looks as good as it sounds. As fun at home as it is on stage. Open source and fully hackable.

Know how to play video games? Like music? You’ll love the Lo-Fi SES (Sound Entertainment System). It's an instrument that makes it easy to rock out as a chiptune artist.

The Lo-Fi SES is all fun with no practice. It may look like a game controller, but it's actually a music controller. You might've never learned to play piano or guitar, but I’ll bet you rocked at more than a few video games. Lo-Fi SES lets you turn those hard fought skills into musical magic.

And, like any good guitar, the Lo-Fi SES has to look as good as it sounds. That's why the Lo-Fi SES itself is a work of art. The fantastic Doctor Octoroc divined the graphics for this instrument and produced the animation in the video...

The controller is the heart of the Lo-Fi SES experience. Just like you are given a few items when you begin any game, the Lo-Fi SES starts you off with a default set of sounds on board. The default sounds are a lo-fi drum set. They're similar to the attack sounds from the video games of your childhood. Like any good portable system, sound output from the Lo-Fi SES comes from a standard audio jack that works with headphones or your stereo.

Just like the SNES, the Lo-Fi SES has all the buttons you could ever need! Use the ones on the right to trigger the sounds, and the ones on the left to control which track is being played or recored. You can even record multiple tracks and swap them out!

The Lo-Fi SES blinks at you more than F-Zero to let you know what is happening. But, every LED aids you along your musical adventure. The ROYB LEDs let you know what sounds you're playing or which ones are on the looped track. The record LED lets you know when you're recording or playing on top of a track. Best of all, there are tempo LEDs that keep you from ever missing a beat.

Finally, there's the badass battery life. Use 6 AAAs and get all day battery life. 24 hours of continuous play, so you can keep rocking long after your parents have gone to bed.

Cartridges

Upgrade your Lo-Fi SES experience with cartridges to mod your musical journey. And, these cartridges don't need you to ever blow on them to make them work!

If you like to tinker or you're into Arduinos, this is a must-have cartridge. This cartridge connects your Lo-Fi SES to your Mac, Linux, or Windows computer (standard mini USB cable not included). There are infinite possibilities once connected: swap out the sounds with some wavs you designed, tweak the timing of things to match your style, upgrade the software, or make it control your favorite sequencer..."
