The sequencer features simple operation and non-stop loop recording, letting you capture songs and ideas as they come and export them as multitrack data to use with your DAW. Flowing seamlessly into every part of your creative world, the FA series morphs instantly from standalone use to become the command center of your computer music studio, with USB audio/MIDI interfacing, powerful real-time controllers, DAW transport controls, and much more.

No Work, All Play
Music workstations play an important role for keyboardists in a wide range of creative activities, from live performance to song development to production in the studio. However, they can often be complicated and difficult to use to their full potential, bogging down the creative process and inhibiting the flow of ideas. In developing the FA series, Roland has completely reimagined the music workstation to provide musicians an inspiring platform that’s extremely powerful and versatile, yet simple and intuitive at the same time. With a streamlined interface and focused, practical features that maximize your creative flow, the FA series allows you to experience newfound freedom to deeply explore and develop your musical ideas with less effort than ever before.

Perform and Record with a Massive Selection of Roland’s Very Best Sounds
The true measure of any music workstation lies with the quality and diversity of its sounds. Filled with over 2000 tones directly inherited from the INTEGRA-7, Roland’s flagship pro sound module, the FA series truly delivers in this area and then some. All of the INTEGRA-7’s SuperNATURAL synth and XV-5080 PCM tones are onboard, plus an essential collection of ultra-expressive SuperNATURAL acoustic tones that includes pianos, organs, drums, bass, strings, and more. The sound engine in the FA-06/FA-08 is fully compatible with the large, growing collection of INTEGRA-7 synth tones available as free downloads from Roland’s Axial sound library site, and it’s also possible to expand the onboard sound set with FA-series wave sound expansion collections.

Capture Ideas and Create Songs Without Interruption
Simple yet powerful, the intuitive 16-track sequencer in the FA series has been designed to let you capture your inspiration as it happens—recording is always just a simple button press away, ensuring that you’ll never lose an idea. In a flash, you can build a full arrangement with the workstation’s huge array of sounds, and with continuous recording in loop mode, you’re able to fill up all 16 tracks without ever stopping! In addition to real-time capture, step recording is also possible, and you have complete control to edit and mix your tracks as you go and save your song to an SDHC card as a stereo audio file. It’s also possible to export your tracks as individual WAV audio files and/or MIDI data for further development in your DAW, making the FA-06/FA-08 a powerful sketchpad for capturing initial sparks that will form the basis for your full-scale computer music productions.

Seamless Hardware Integration with Your DAW
In addition to standalone use as a performance instrument and composing workstation, the FA-06/FA-08 transitions into your computer-based music production world with ease. A simple press of the dedicated DAW Control button instantly sets up the workstation to communicate with your computer via USB*, letting you use the keyboard and knobs to send MIDI data to your DAW for playing software synths, controlling plug-in effects, and more. The FA series also includes control maps for popular DAWs, providing a quick and easy setup to control transport functions and more in your specific software. You can even use the FA-06/FA-08 as a USB audio interface to record a variety of different sources directly into your DAW, including a mic, guitar, or stereo line level device connected to the rear-panel input jacks, and you can capture the workstation’s internal sounds and sampler playback as well. Sound output is also supported, allowing you to monitor the DAW output through the stereo output and headphones jacks on the FA-06/FA-08.

* USB communication requires installation of the FA-series USB driver on your computer.

Instant-Access Performance Sampler Onboard
Based on Roland’s mega-popular SP-404SX, the sampler in the FA series features fun, fast, hands-on operation and sampling/playback via convenient SDHC cards. You can play audio samples directly from the 16 pads on the panel, making it easy to expand your performances with loops, backing tracks, one-shots, vocal phrases, sound FX, and more. Thanks to SDHC flash memory, your samples load instantly with no wait time, and you can use the four pad banks and clipboard function to rearrange your samples as needed for any performance. It’s super-easy to sample the workstation’s own sounds or external sources via the Mic/Guitar and Line inputs, and you can even play WAV, AIFF, or MP3 samples that you’ve transferred from your computer. A variety of editing features allow you to tweak your samples to taste, including quick adjustment of playback position and level. In addition to sample triggering, the pads can be used for numerous functions such as muting parts, entering numeric values in the display, and more.

Enhance Your Sounds with a Wide Range of Simultaneous Effects
With its large selection of pro effects, the FA series provides numerous options for polishing your sounds and sequencer tracks to studio-level perfection. Independent MFX engines are available for all 16 parts of a Studio Set, giving you an enormous level of sound shaping for both live playing and song mixing. Each MFX engine contains 67 different effects types to choose from, with an additional option of a vocoder when MFX are used with Part 1. Six separate COMP+EQ processors are dedicated for individual drum sounds, while global EQ, chorus, and reverb are on tap to add a finishing touch to any of your parts as needed. With the unique TFX (total effects), you also have the ability to process the entire output of the workstation with dramatic effects such as DJ FX Looper, Isolator, and many others. All the effects can be tweaked in real time via the Sound Modify knobs, making it simple to enhance your keyboard playing, sampling, and sequencer tracks with dynamic sonic textures.

Fast Workflow and Intuitive Real-Time Control
You can feel the speed of this new breed of instrument the moment you hit the power switch—unlike many workstations that can take a minute or more to boot, the FA series is ready to play in seconds. The panel is logically organized into dedicated sections, and the large color LCD presents a gorgeous look with inviting hi-res graphics for selecting tones, working with the sequencer, and adjusting various settings. It’s easy to navigate through the workstation’s large sound selection by category and assign favorites for fast recall, while dedicated buttons deliver instant access to often-used functions such as transpose, octave range, and many others. With six knobs and a powerful yet easy-to-use assignment matrix, the Sound Modify section lets you control a wide range of parameters in real time for maximum expression while performing live and working in the studio."

Sonicstate Exclusive: Roland FA-06 preview

Published on Jan 15, 2014 sonicstate·594 videos

"Roland popped down a couple of days ago to give us the skinny on a new product which was released today. Taking the legacy of the Fantom workstations and combining the pallette of the sonically stuffed Integra-7 sound module, and performance chops from the recent Junos and Jupiters, plus a large colour display, the FA06 and FA08 (88 weighted keys) are Roland's new take on the keyboard workstation.
With 128 voice polyphony, 16 part sequencer (each with dedicated FX plus a total FX), it's got enough voices to handle some complex productions.
The all new (ground up design) sequencer integrates with the on-board sampler to create a flexible workflow as far as we can see."

3 synced drum machines (TR-77, KPR-77, CR-8000) with Evolver and Seiko DS-250

Published on Jan 14, 2014

"I modified the Roland TR-77V and built a circuit for the Dave Smith Instruments Evolver so that they can be clocked by trigger signals. More here: http://acreil.wordpress.com/2014/01/1...

The Roland CR-8000 (hi-hat, handclap) is slaved to the Korg KPR-77 (bass, snare, hi-hat) via DIN sync. One KPR-77 trigger output clocks the TR-77 (miscellaneous patterns with spring reverb) in an irregular pattern, while the other is connected to the "register" input on the CR-8000 (switching between two different patterns). The CR-8000's accent trigger output clocks the Evolver (with Ibanez SDR-1000 reverb). I added two overdubs with the Seiko DS-250, processed by the SDR-1000 and Yamaha FX900. Recorded 2013."

Volca Sleaze Free Sample Library (Link Below in Description)

"Volca Sleaze is a 42 sound one-shot library featuring the Volca Keys analog synthesizer by Korg.

This machine has many great "key" sounds. As usual, our aim is to think "hmm… what if..."
We took the Volca and ran it through multiple analog filters, LFOs for texture, multiple gain-staging, and parallel ring modulation for a gritty spatial tone. To take it even further, we focused mainly on drum sounds. Yes, drum sounds. But, never fear there are filthy sound effects, bass, and keys too.

All sounds are offered in 16 and 24 bit resolution, 44.1kHz wave files.

If you would like to contribute to the hard work it took to make these samples, please visit our store at www.darksideofthetune.com and purchase one of the many sample libraries available.

YAMAHA A4000 PRO SAMPLER

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

I almost posted this one on MATRIXSYNTH-B, but decided to do a quick search here on MATRIXSYNTH for A4000. Turns out there were only three other posts mentioning the A4000 in passing.  That make this the first proper A4000 post on the site.  The following are some details on this older sampler from the listing and I'm guessing the original product blurb:

"Features:

A New Breed of Sampler is Born

Ever since the introduction of sampling technology, virtually every rackmount sampler on the market has been just that — a sampler — and nothing more. Sure there have been advancements in sound quality and the addition of digital effects, but the basic concept has remained the same — UNTIL NOW. Announcing the arrival of the revolutionary A4000 — professional samplers with the power not only to create sounds, but to shape them in a way never before dreamed possible.

Impressive Specs

The A4000 have impressive specs for a sampling unit. Both models are expandable with up to 128 MB of RAM and can accommodate an Internal Hard Drive and Internal Zip® Drive simultaneously. The A4000 provides 16 Multitimbral Parts and 64 Notes of Polyphony. And for ultimate flexibility and convenience, these samplers are compatible with a wide range of sample formats, including AIFF and WAV among others, and are bundled with special Sample and Parameter Editing Software.

Not Merely 'Samplers'

The A4000 are not merely "samplers" — they are advanced synthesis tools that let you process samples creatively...and easily. The A4000 provide abundant features for versatile sound production: 16 Types of Ultra Fat Filters that deliver powerful resonance, 96 Types of Effects for creating never-before-heard sounds, a MIDI Syncable LFO with fully programmable waveforms, unprecedented Loop Divide/Remix and Resampling functions, Direct-to-CD Burning capability and much, much more! And with their Large LCD Panel, heavy-duty Real-time Control Knobs and Intuitive User Interface, these samplers are incredibly easy to operate, allowing you to give full concentration to creating your own unique sounds music.

Powerful Filter Section

The A4000 feature an elaborate filter stage, providing 16 different filter types with complete control over the parameters. Many filter types feature a Q (resonance) setting that can be controlled by keyboard velocity — great for creating expressive acid leads and basses. Along with the standard low-pass, high-pass and band pass filters, these samplers feature many unusual filters such as band eliminate, peak, and dip filters. Also included are several unique multi-mode filters, which let you assign two independent filters to a single sample; a low-pass and high-pass filter for example.

96 Outstanding Onboard Effects

The A4000 are not just high-quality samplers, they're also highly advanced digital multi-effect processors, exceeding the capability of many professional stand-alone effect processors. Each effect block can be assigned any one of the 96 onboard effect algorithms, which include a huge selection of reverbs, distortions, modulation effects and delays, as well as several truly unique effects such as Auto Synth, Tech Modulation, Digital Scratch and an extensively programmable Lo-Fi effect. Most effect types can be applied during the sampling process — combine this capability with the Resampling function and you'll have virtually endless effect processing power at your fingertips. You can even have the A4000 double as a high-end studio effects processor by assigning effects to the stereo analog inputs."

"Quick demo of the possibilities of the red square for bass and lead + some drones.

The main beat comes from the filter (resonance in self oscillation). Not a conventional beat but hypnotic.

It's a raw demo with no fx so it's loud and static.

Mixed in logic with some sidechain compression (mode ducking, no gain). And a little touch of exciter and EQ on the main output."

"New loop remixing sampler, instantly generates infinite new loops

San Francsico, January 14th, 2014 - Twisted Tools have released ULTRALOOP, a first-of-its-kind loop remixing sampler with a fast and intuitive visual workflow for Native Instruments *Reaktor. ULTRALOOP combines advanced loop layering, comping, effect processing and automation techniques to generate new grooves, riffs and song ideas. You can use ULTRALOOP with the included factory sample library or to remix your own samples, injecting new life into any existing loop library. ULTRALOOP is available now from the Twisted Tools Shop for $69.

At the core of ULTRALOOP is an advanced loop layering engine and sequencer, capable of both layering and comping - a production technique that allows you to flip between layered tracks that are playing back simultaneously, by muting and un-muting slices of each layer. Up to eight tracks with loops of any BPM can be layered or comped together in real-time and can be further processed using the all-new Gestural FX engine. The Gestural FX engine automatically generates dynamic effect movements that ramp and modulate over time, using a suite of creative effects designed to produce endless fills, articulations and variations.

To create additional loops and variations, ULTRALOOP features and endless supply of randomization functions, connected to a unique Preset Grid system for each main parameter group. A Preset Grid allows you to store, recall and automate settings by using a dynamic memory grid made up of 17 slots that can be played on-the-fly. The settings for the entire instrument, including all the parameter Preset Grids can be stored and recalled in one of eight Global Scenes, allowing you to create infinite loop variations. All the relevant instrument features can be played with live, without skipping a beat, by using a mouse, MIDI or OSC.

ULTRALOOP comes bundled with various additional content, including an iPad *Lemur template by Antonio Blanca and a factory loop library by artists from Enig’matik, Loopmasters and Sounds of Revolution. A series of Ultraloop Expansion Packs are available separately and feature loops and presets by artists such as Si Begg, Dusty Fungus and Chris Carter.

*Reaktor Player not supported.

MTG R100 Builder – Kawai R100 EPROM Builder Software & Expander Switcher

via Music Technologies Group

"This software will enable you to create your own custom EPROMs (BIN files) for the Kawai R100 legendary 12-bit drum machine/rhythm composer.

In a nutshell you collect/create a bunch of WAV files, one for each of the 24 instruments and then this software compiles and converts them into the compressed Kawai format. It’s been a pretty big undertaking, starting with the dissection of the Kawai ASICs. I will eventually include a User Manual and a bunch of WAV and BIN files to get you started.

Your WAV files should each be:

Mono (1 track)
Sample rate of 31.25kHz (you can resample easily in Audacity or similar)
16-bit linear PCM (standard WAV)
Should fit within the sample space of the pad you are targeting."

Kawai R-100 EPROM 3x Expander Switcher

"These are new "SoundSwitcher" boards for the Kawai R100. Each board includes copies of all 3 of the Kawai Factory ROMs that were released. (It is my understanding that these are the ROMs for the R100/R50, R50e and a jazz/fusion one.) You get triple the sounds and it's awesome.

Set-by-step instructions with photos are included. Don't miss this chance to fit your R100 with all the sounds made for it. The circuit board is silkscreened with the signal names, so all you circuit benders out there can bend your drum machine without messing with a fine vintage instrument."

"This particular Mono/Poly is in excellent condition. It has never been gigged or abused, clearly lived in studios its whole life and looks almost mint. There is only minor wear on the front corners of the veneer on the side panels, that is about it. The front panel is flawless without blemishes.

Functionally the unit is 100%, it is working perfectly and plays and sounds great. Prior to sale the unit has gone through our usual high standard of full refurbishment. This includes the following work-

- Replace all electrolytic capacitors with high quality Panasonic/Nichicon.(Makes a huge difference to stability and performance)

- Completely rebuild power supply.

- Thorough cleaning inside and out.

- Replace all electrolytic capacitors with high quality, high temp Panasonic/Nichicon capacitors.

- Clean key contacts.

- All pots, switches and buttons are working perfectly and with no noise or error. They have been cleaned/ lubed or replaced where necessary.

- Complete calibration according to Korg factory spec.

This really brings these old synths back to life and returns them to their former glory. There wouldn't be many Mono/polys in the country with this amount of work and restoration put into them. It sounds amazing and would be great for professionals or amateurs alike."

Two additional videos from the auction previously posted here.

"Brief Overview of the Red Square:

Red Square is a patchable analogue monosynth that can also be used as an effects processor. It has some of the advantages of a modular synth (re-wireable synth circuits, external control, external signal routing) and the advantage of a pre-patched monosynth (easy to use, instant sound, tidy front panel). Its 1/4" jacks sockets mean it can easily be integrated into a studio just like any synth or processor.

New Roland Tr-808 Transparent Overlay

"The original Roland Tr-808 drum machine transparent overlay protection layer with full colour reprinted controls and legends

This is a faithful reproduction of the overlay that came in the box when you bought your new 808 and protects the surface of the machine from scratches, dust, liquids and foreign objects

Sits flat on the top plate and is held snugly in place with cutouts for pots and switches, it's completely transparent and all the control legending is reproduced as per factory issue

Made from a heavyweight CNC cut clear acrylic to drop onto the rotary controls, tuck underneath the knob caps and sit tightly around all the drum pads for a secure non slip surface

Very rare to see an 808 with these on these days they add an extra level of security for the finish of the top plate, paintwork and control indications, protecting your investment

Easy to clean durable finish with a nice heavyweight feel, lays flat on your 808 and locks itself into place around the controls

Keep your pride and joy looking as good as it can, just like new!

All the switch and dial functions are professionally printed with the original colouring and lettering for that original fresh out of the box factory look"

Propellerhead ReDominator Alpha Juno 1/2 Emulation

ReDominator Intro Published on Jan 14, 2014

"ReDominator is an emulation of the classic Alpha Juno 1/2 (JU-1/2), a polyphonic DCO (digitally controlled oscillator) based synth from 1986. The JU-1/2 became popular in the early 90's techno and rave scene particularly by the classic Hoover sound (which ReDominator attempts to emulate accurately). But beyond those niche sounds there lays a versatile synthesizer that does bass, pads, leads, organs and a lot of other sounds waiting to be discovered!

Low Pass G.A.S.

The basic patch was:
3 x MOTM-300 VCOs, PWM'd by a MOTM-380 LFO and pulse outputs into a STG Mixer, then to one of the VCF's and then to a MOTM-190 VCA. Two different MOTM-800's were used, one for the VCA and one for the VCF. Sequencer was a Moon Modular 569. On the first couple VCF's I also used a COTK C964 Ratchet Sequencer module and a third MOTM-800 into the VCF but, I forgot to use it on the last 3 or 4 VCF's! :-/"
