"Blending two great sounding synthesizers (or any instruments) that different from each other playing the same part at the same time can really bring things to life.

I was mainly doing this to have something interesting playing while I got to know the new Moon modules but it was a lot of fun and I ended up recording over an hour of it, but edited it down to a less insane 18½ minutes. ;-)

Thanks for watching!"

"For use in a Synthesizer.Com/MU type modular system. Perfect condition, purchased new from SSL.
These are currently selling new for approx $600 and are currently not in stock from SSL or Noisebug.
Please keep in mind that these modules come with a Synthesizer.com type power header. Full Spec's are available at the the Steamsynth.com & Noisbug.com...

Description from the SSL website:

' Innovator and designer extraordinaire Ian Fritz has teamed up with Synthetic Sound Labs to bring you one of the most useful and flexible VCOs on the market - the SSL 1130 Double Deka VCO.

The Double Deka is a stable, wide range 1V/Octave VCO with incredible sonic versatility. Imagine "drawing" a 10 stage waveform using lighted front panel sliders. Now imagine two of these separate waveforms, each with a precisely stepped 6 octave range control that can also be externally voltage controlled. In addition, using a built in knob or external control voltage, you can cross-fade between the two waveforms. Add to this, two unique new types of sync, a funky digital ring modulator (DRM) type input, plus separate linear and exponential FM inputs, and you begin to see (and hear) the possibilities.

This unique VCO consists of an ultrasonic oscillator core followed by a parallel pair of waveform generators. Each waveform generator consists of a voltage controlled multi-octave divider, followed by circuitry to generate a 10-step waveform using a set of 10 slider potentiometers. Also included are a novel synchronization circuit with two different operating modes and a built-in "digital ring modulator" (DRM) for producing a wide variety of synchronized and anharmonic sounds. The oscillator core is highly stable (better than 20 ppm/K ) and features wide-range, accurate tracking (better than 0.05% over fifteen octaves). The variable waveform generator provides fine control over an enormous range of available timbres. The high frequency output of the "core" oscillator is provided for use in driving other frequency dividers. '"

Note this is the first Quicco Sound post. I visited the booth as well. The device is solid and has that "ooh, colorful blinky lights" appeal to it. And of course it's wireless. Less cables in your setup is always a good thing. The two people behind QUICCO Sound come from a long history working at Roland and Yamaha. I'll post some pics of the device this week, but it's one of those devices that looks (and feels) even better in person.

Update: accidentally had Cuico instead of Quicco.

Based on three comparators (CV1, CV2, CV3, this third with inbuilt LFO - speed&amount), "Color" knob for sound 'sharpness'
Output is angular stepped wave with rich harmonics content. Best for mixing with original signal.

Internal LFO can be used for third comparator and then sounds like PWM or simple 1-stage wave animator.

Color knob for 'rounding' sharp edges = milder sound."

Studio Electronics Omega 8 Synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction - nice pic of the voice cards.  One more below.

"Fully loaded with 8X discrete voice boards, 100% working and sounding INCREDIBLE!

This Omega 8 has the maximum 8 voice boards installed, and is running OS 2.AC software which is the ideal "CS friendly" OS for adding CS80 filter modules later. Of course you can add any combination of Studio Electronics' CS80, ARP2600 and/or Roland 303 filter modules to your liking.

Currently in this configuration it has 8X Moog and 8X SEM-style multi-mode filters present.

This is a later unit with serial number in the 13XX range, which features the latest Omega front panel graphics but more importantly benefits from better hardware mounting support/cushioning of the voice boards (you may be able to see the whitish plastic mounting tray with grooves that the voice boards rest in; earlier Omegas don't have this recommended upgrade).

Also, Greg St. Regis from SE told me that the later serial number means that these voice boards can be upgraded to full CODE status (sine wave and added filter control) for $100 LESS than older boards. This is a great consideration if you are on the fence about adding CODE features later!

So as far as Omega 8 go, THIS is the ideal stock unit to start with..."

The Polyphonic MicroBrute, part 2

Published on Jan 27, 2014 Expert Sleepers·104 videos

"This video shows four Arturia MicroBrutes working as a four-voice polysynth.

The MicroBrutes are connected via MIDI to an Expert Sleepers ESX-8MD module, driven by the Expert Sleepers Silent Way software. Silent Way takes the polyphonic MIDI generated by the controller keyboard and distributes it between the MicroBrutes, so that each works as one voice of a polysynth.

This setup allows the Silent Way/ESX-8MD combination to replace a standalone polyphony distribution box. However there are many other advantages to generating MIDI via the Expert Sleepers system: see e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4S2Af5...

"Oxygene I" - on Technics, Elka and Yamaha organs

Published on Jan 27, 2014 organfairy·407 videos

"Sometimes serendipity just kicks in without a warning. I was at a second hand sale last year and upon leaving I passed the bin they used for scrapped stuff - things they thought couldn't be sold. In this unlikely place I saw the little Zoom 505 guitar effects pedal and they didn't mind me taking it. At home I connected it and it worked. No repairs needed.

It has a phaser that sounds quite good with the Elka organ strings and what could be more natural than to play this classic piece by J.M.Jarre. I know purists says that I should use a SmallStone instead. But why should I make an exact copy of the record?

I had the sheet music again this time and I follow it quite close. I have said it before: JMJ doesn't always play what he has written which makes the job a bit challenging. But I think it came out relatively acceptable."

Korg Gadget, '80s Themed demo (Berlin, Chicago, London, Chiangmai), by Jordan Passmore

Published on Jan 27, 2014 Jordan Passmore·69 videos

"This demo is of the Korg Gadget iPad app featuring 4-tracks all playing and sequenced from within Gadget itself. The 4 instruments are Chicago and Berlin monosynths (Chicago is doing the melody and Berlin the bassline), London doing the drums (most of the drums are from the DDD-1, a very underrated digital drum machine from the 80's that Korg has sampled and included within this app) and Chiangmai playing the digital-sounding chord stab. The window to the left should give you an idea of what I am doing on the iPad (tweaking and muting stuff live).

I should note there are some skips and pops here and there in the video. These hiccups occur on my iPad Mini only with Korg Gadget for some reason. I believe the demand this app puts on the processor is quite high. This should come as no surprise though as every single synth/drum machine they have packed into this app sounds fantastic."
